Arcanics: Dark Times

Rate this book
Magic exists and there is no such thing as destiny. These are facts that Michael Fitzpatrick must come to accept. As a gifted academic, Fitz struggles to balance his time, relationships, and arrogance. This only becomes more difficult as he enrolls at Hartscorn University, a school for magically inclined practitioners. Attending school with his childhood friend seemed like a chance to try again; a new place, more rigorous studies, and fresh faces to befriend were all he wanted. Soon, myths and urban legends become self-fulfilling prophecies, and Fitz must learn to control the arcane abilities he manifests. The world atop ours, one of magic and possibilities, is still plagued with evil, torture, and death. As an order of magic users arises and begin hunting Fitz, he becomes entangled in the complex game of cat and mouse that forces him to evaluate his very core beliefs. When faced with the new Queen of Shadows, Fitz must decide if there is a difference between evil and desperation.

This book took me on a wild ride, there's incredible world building and lore, wild adventure and tests, and enticing mysteries

The story is about Fitz and his best friend Henry, they've decided they're going to go to the same school and while they're there they end up in the women's dorm and make friends. Their friend group starts trying to figure out the mystery unfolding around them, while also working together to get through class tests and competitions.

This story was written very brilliantly, the way the magic works in this world makes so much sense, I'm tempted to test it out. The way the author makes it make sense with physics and science is really cool and fascinating. There's so much set up and while quite a bit does get revealed, there's more mystery we have to wait to unfold in the rest of the series, which I cannot wait for. I also really enjoyed that the main character is flawed, and continuously evolves and learns from his mistakes. I'd definitely recommend this to other readers that enjoy complex magic world building and dark academia.

(I received this as a arc)

What a cool world this was! The magic system in this is so unique, I really enjoyed getting to know this world as I read. Mosier is an artful writer, with thoughtful imagery and a wonderfully plotted out story. If you enjoy academia, intriguing magic systems, and remembering what it was to be an 18 year old on your own for the first time, this is the book for you!
Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Not for me. The lack of world building, structure and original content made it a hard read for me. I've been told if you're a fan of "The magicians" show then you'll enjoy this book.
