Dark Obsession: A Spicy Fated Mates Romantasy

Rate this book

I've dreamed about the day I'd finally meet my fated mate.
I just never expected him to be the most ruthless shifter that ever existed.
A killer.
Unhinged.
Cold and broken.
And the fates gave him to me?
In the light, I bake sweet treats.
In the dark, I'm a weapon.
And in the hands of someone like Salem?
RIP the realm.

“Chantal takes Romantasy, and hand delivers you a masterpiece set in an evocative world of fated mates and enemies to lovers. 4.5 Dark Obsession Stars🌟

Dark Obsession is Salem and Peach’s story❣️ Peach is a shifter, but she spends her days running her bakery and trying to keep her brother on the straight and narrow. When a male enters her bakery, they both immediately know that they are mates. But when she learns his name, she flees😳

Not an easy relationship to foster with someone so unhinged, but Salem definitely keeps us on our toes….expect the unexpected😁 I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review😍

Salem and Peach ❤

"Dark Obsession delivered everything I love in this gripping, dynamic short story. I was instantly hooked from the very first moment Salem walked into Peach's bakery for more than just strawberry cheesecake.
Salem and Peach's love story is incredibly sweet, which might be hard to believe considering Salem is such a scary guy. The shifter clearly has a loyal, kind side, but don't be fooled—Salem remains super frightening and has no remorse for his actions towards anyone he doesn't care about. I love Peach as his mate. She's perfect and not at all what I expected his Mate to be like.
I love the story. I'm sad this is the last book in the series because I love getting lost in their realms with characters I adore."

Meh, this series and author has been less than stellar for me. And I figured after the last book I was for sure done but Salem did always intrigue me.

It was really fast paced. I don't remember if the previous books were or this one was just shorter than the others. Though I guess it worked for Salem and his obsessiveness tbh.

I found it a bit boring and skimmed a bit. Salem becomes obsessed, he stalks, his mate denies him, he kidnaps her, she gives in, then he's merely letting her grow comfortable enough to bond with her. That's it. Stale drama with her brother which amounts to nothing and went no where. FMC keeps her big scary magic secret the entire time and it really wasn't all that scary. Yes, it def could have been used as a weapon and I understood not letting anyone know what it was for that reason but it just wasn't as big and scary as she made it out to be. She claimed it was a darkness in her but she wasn't the dark type, so unless it went unmentioned that her magic somehow tried to tempt or lure her into using it for nefarious purposes then I don't get it 🤷🏻‍♀️

And how she just kicked her brother out of her life without trying to fix things was really weird and harsh imo. Seemed a little abrupt considering how she was doing everything to protect him the entire book considering his history with Salem. With her power she basically told him to leave and never return. When she could have easily told him to simply forget Salem ever beat him up, so they could start fresh and to never ask her for money again and stop borrowing money. That would have solved all their issues and she'd have got to keep her brother in her life. Because for someone who claimed he was her only living family and her pack, she sure kicked him to the curb and chose Salem over him real quick.

Plus, Salem just killing absolutely anyone who, to his own warped judgement, offended his mate or even flirted with her, deserved to die. And he did in fact kill them for literally nothing. That was just, honestly not endearing at all. Like I knew he was unhinged and a bit crazy but y'all that was not okay. Especially him hiding and lying about it to his mate. She was a bit dumb not to catch his lies tbh and act like he wasn't that bad when she totally knew he was.

Anyway, I'm sure fans of this author and this series will enjoy how it wrapped what I assume was the last book. Me, not so much.

I had the honor of beta reading Dark Obsession and let me tell you... It’s fantastic!

This short, spicy read is packed with humor, banter, and the perfect HEA. Chantal Fernando continues to be one of my most-read authors this year, and considering I usually prefer closed-door romance, that’s saying a lot. At this point, there’s literally nothing she could write that I wouldn’t devour.

The Fated Mates series is one of my absolute favorites by her, and I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure Salem would grow on me. I expected to enjoy the story but be “meh” about the MMC because throughout the series, Salem initially felt a little too psycho to induce my swoon levels… even by my standards 🤣. (And well, if you’ve read Exiled Prince, you’ll understand my obsession with Bane 🤭😍)

But boy was I wrong! The way Chantal writes MMCs makes me swoon over even the reddest of flags! Don’t get me wrong, Bane will always be my number one 🤭, but Salem and his psycho ways eventually won me over... kicking feet, squealing, and all. 🤭 As usual, Chantal Fernando has that uncanny ability to make even the darkest MMCs come with a cinnamon-roll side, and I love it.

Peach, with her sunshine and sass, was an absolute delight, and that bonus scene🥵👀😍 left me begging for more of this series.

From fated mates to witty banter to all the spice and swoon, this series is an absolute blast. If you haven’t read the Fated Mates series yet, it needs to be on your TBR yesterday.

Huge thanks to Chantal Fernando for letting me be an early reader!

“Dark Obsession” delivers an electrifying jolt to the fated mates romance genre with its unconventional characters and addictive pacing. The story centers on the captivating dynamic between Peach—ever sweet, radiant, and the embodiment of sunshine—and Salem, an ex-assassin whose unhinged, possessive nature sets the stage for a truly wild ride.

Salem’s intensity is palpable. He's controlling, jealous, and dangerously obsessed with Peach, but these dark elements are balanced by unexpected moments of genuine sweetness and care directed solely toward Peach and his family. These redeeming glimpses offer depth to Salem’s character, making his love for Peach both unsettling and oddly tender.

Despite its brevity, the story wastes no time pulling readers in, keeping the adrenaline high from start to finish. The chemistry between Peach and Salem sizzles, with plenty of spice woven into their interactions—enough to satisfy fans of steamy romance. The fated mates trope is given a fresh, edgy twist through the couple's dynamic, making the book stand out among short romance stories.

Overall, “Dark Obsession” is a perfect pick for those looking for a quick, intense read with memorable characters, steamy scenes, and an unapologetically fast pace. If you like your romances with a dash of darkness and a whole lot of heat, Salem and Peach’s story is sure to leave you wanting more.

Thanks to the author for sending me a copy of the book. This is my honest review.

This is Salem and Peach’s story.

This is the last book in this series and I really sad about it, I love this series and these characters, well maybe not crazy self, but the others, yes.

This is one of the shorter books similar to August’s book length, Caged Love, which I somewhat expected since Salem’s backstory was pretty much explained in Exiled Prince. Also, side note, you should read the previous books in this series especially Masked Fate and Exiled Prince to fully under Salem, his brothers essentially his whole family and life.

Salem is basically a psychopath assassin with hair trigger temper for killing and his fated mate is Peach a baker; so naturally things don’t go great right from the start when she learns he tortured her older brother for information. I will say I was surprised by Salem’s restraint when it came to Peach mind you it didn’t last long, but the fact that he had any was amazing. I liked Peach she seemed sweet and kind the complete opposite of Salem and perhaps that why they worked perfectly, but she was a bit of pushover for both Salem and her brother, it did get annoying for me.

Since the book was quite short things progressed quickly and with Salem’s antics it was a bit unbelievable for me how their relationship unfolded. Also, the typos were distracting, for example, Milana’s mate is August not Soren and Salem tortured Peach’s “older” brother not her “younger” brother. Then the ending was abruptly resolved it was like I blinked and I missed it.

I did enjoy seeing my favorite characters from the other books, but I wish we got more of epilogue since this was the last book. I wonder if Astrid’s brothers will get their own books?

The extra scene for Salem’s brothers was nice, but also a bit quick so I didn’t get to really enjoy it to its full potential.

“I love you like I never thought I could love.”

Salem (age 150) is an assassin, a killer, and his family is involved in kingdom politics. He can no longer participate in the Assassins Academy due to his violent nature. He is one of the strongest shifters in the realm. He is a triplet with brothers Silver and Sage. He is also close with sister Saylor and other brother Shadow.

Peach (age 40) is a sweet bakery owner and also a shifter wolf. She knows Salem is her mate as soon as she sees him. But he beat up her brother Jagger so she refuses to be with him, as well as a secret she is also hiding.

Salem is truly unhinged and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. I loved his inner monologue and lack of concern in general unless it related to his family or Peach.
“I don’t care how angry she is. She’s angry in our home, where she belongs”

Some spicy scenes indeed and I always love a Virgin h.
Peach’s love and acceptance really is what Salem needs and they are so cute together.

This is my first book by this author and I was able to follow along fine and am intrigued by the prior couples. I do wish that for the final book in a series there was more of an epilogue.

@authorchantalfernando releases the 6th and final book in her Fated Love Series!

Thanks to the author for sending me a copy of the book. This is my honest review.

A long time unhinged fan favorite, Salem, meets his mate. She is everything you would hope for and so much more!

Salem is so… Salem… if you know you know. He is unhinged, protective, possessive and dominant! To him Stalking and Kidnapping are just a normal day occurrence! lol

The epilogue of this book puts the perfect ending bow on the series! There is definitely room for a next generation series at a later date!

Fated Love #6

Salem meets Peach after his dreams are destroyed, and he walks into her bakery.

“I’ve waited my whole life for you, Peach. It’s not fast enough.”
One thing I don’t understand is the fated mates thing. But, he’s been betrothed/hooked up with anyone and everyone… I kind of feel that there is no value in the bond if he was willing to forsake it. So why is it so important to them when they finally meet their mate??? I mean, if he had married/mated with Pandora, what would have happened to Peach??? It was touch on, but not really addressed...

Salem is unhinged, going on his little murder-y sprees just because someone looks at her wrong. Plenty of spice. A lot of interaction with the other characters and members of his family. Plenty of humorous moments too - both are insanely jealous, and their antics cracked me up.

Loved the bonus chapter, too. It was cute.

Thanks Chantal for the advanced copy.

Finally the book i've been desperate for in The Fated Mates series. I have been obsessed with Salem since I first met him.

Salem is well known throughout the Kingdom for being an Assasin, a Fighter a Psychopath. His reputation precedes him for good reason.

So when Salem meets Peach she knows exactly who he is and is wary to say the least.
So wary that she flees from him but that just makes Salem more determined.

I love how intense things are between them, their relationship is deeply emotional, sweet, spicy, funny and all consuming.
Love Loved LOVED it. 🖤

This is my absolute favourite line from Salem it sums him up and why I love him.👌

“It was just a little torture. He needs to get over it.” 😂

The Fated Mates Series is Phenomenal, it really is a must read for any Romantasy lover.

Thanks to the author for sending me a copy of this book. This is my honest review. First off, I would say that you need to read the others in this series first. You could read this book as a stand alone, but you would miss a bit of the funny moments. Warning, this is a spicy book series, more that others from the author. In this book we see Salem finally get a mate. I love that he doesn't change completely for his mate. I do only give this book a 4 out of 5 because I felt like there should of been more. Don't get me wrong, the book is good, but I feel like there needed to be more of a battle or something. Salem is the biggest and the baddest of them all and I was waiting for some epic fight! All in all I do recommend this book. I have yet to find a book from this author that I didn't like.

Thank you so much Chantal Fernando for the ARC of Dark Obsession.

This one is a short, but spicy read that is filled with humour, banter, madness and a HEA for the MCs. I've enjoyed reading every one of the books in the Fated Love series and am sad that this is coming to an end, but what a way to end the series!

I've been excited to get Salem's story since meeting him in the previous books- who doesn't love an unhinged MMC? Since seeing Peach, Salem knows that she will be his- and he will stop at nothing to make that true. It doesn't matter that he at one point tortured her brother.

Peach on the other hand is a shifter who runs her bakery while trying to keep her bother out of further trouble. That is until she meets the man who enters her bakery- and it sends her running.

Will Salem and his unusual (and psychotic) ways be able to win over Peach? Or will Peach be sent running due to their past?

Salem oh my what a surprise! I surely didnt expect that! It was such a joy to read about his story at last and see him as the true person he is, vulnerable and loving and caring!finished this book at once! Unhinged is one word to describe him but when in love and mated he is even smiling! Peach is such a strong mate for him and she os also a surprise as i can see why the fates chose her for him! Also i love the fact that he is possesive but also would never harm her and tries at least not to do anything to make her sad! I love the way the move together and i believe she was just what he needed! I m sad to see that its the last book of this series as i loved the whole thing! Cant wait for what else Chantal has instore!

Thank you Chantal Fernando for the ARC!

I have been waiting for Salem’s book! I loved every minute of it. Though I wish it was longer because I didn’t want it to end!

This book is book #6 in the Fated Love series. I am a sucker for fated mates, and these books totally deliver on that!

Salem was always the unhinged character through this series, but the unhinged ones are always the funnest (am I right? 😏). I love that just because he was mated, he still stayed the same. But maybe Peach got him to think a little longer before he got all murder-y instead killing without thought 🤣.

I loved every single one of these books and their characters! I’m so sad this series has ended, but definitely loved the ride!

I wish this one was longer, but I loved Salem and Peach’s story! These two are the very definition of opposites attracting!
Hopefully you’ve read the other stories in this series so you’ll already know Salem. He’s definitely different. Some might even call him a social path… I agree with this based on some of his actions… Peach is super sweet and friendly. She’s someone you would want as a friend.
The moment he enters her bakery, he knows she’s his mate. Too bad when he tells her his name she wants nothing to do with him. That’s okay, he’s persistent and wears her down.
Highly recommend this one!

Together that it what Peach and Salem are - sweet and deadly, she’s the light to his dark and vice versa. Once they met there was no denying they were fated mates, no matter how much Peach wished it weren’t true (he nearly killed her brother after all). But Salem was persistent, not even willing to contemplate a life without her. A super easy, super sexy read, once Peach dropped her barriers they were hot and heavy a LOT. A fun shifter romance with a possessive alpha male looking after his woman/wolf. A quick and enjoyable story. I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.

I don't like the hypocrisy, Salem loves his siblings, and yet Peach who's brother was tortured by Salem is supposedly okay with having Salem as her mate. Had the roles being reversed i am pretty sure they would have shown a revenge or bully enemies to lovers nonsense where the MC would be seen taking vengeance on the FMC for torturing his sibling(s). It basically shows that the females are weak to emotions and love, and can't control their body and soul. It completely ruined my experience of reading this book. Hell the MC didn't even grovel or be remorseful for his actions. Not at all a good read.

Obsession might be putting it lightly when it comes to Salem 👀

Salem is known as the most ruthless guy around and he 110% plays into that, being the big bad man ready to talk with fists first. Peach is a sweet little bakery owner who wants to go on about her day and find her mate. He is willing to go to the ends of the earth for his fated mate now that he’s found her but I love that Peach gives him a little bit of hell and doesn’t give in so easily to the pull. I also really enjoyed the family dynamics of Salems family.

This is the first I’ve read by Chantal and I’ll definitely be going back to read the rest of the series!

I'm so focused on Chantal's other books (MC) that I was not even aware of this series. What a pleasant surprise for me. This is the first book of the series I've read so I'll have to go back and read the backlog. I do love a fated mates' book, and this one did not disappoint. A short engaging read with a couple, Salem & Peach, that definitely belong together.

I have wanted Salem's story for a while now. His story did not let me down. His mate made him work for it,but they eventually got their happy ending. Peach was the perfect mate for Salem. Her independent, strong female to his alpha male made for an interesting mix in their journey to a happy ending. Salem and Peach steamed up my kindle, hit me in the feels, and kept me turning the pages. I read Dark Obsession cover to cover in one sitting. This was a good read and a perfect ending to this series.Advanced reader review

Salem and Peach might not make sense at first—but together, they are irresistibly cute. Salem’s wild, chaotic side ends up making him the perfect man to love, protect, and treasure his woman, and it’s such a joy to see him embrace who he is without losing his true nature. Peach is absolutely adorable, and the way she accepts and loves every part of Salem is heart-melting.

This quick, fun, and darkly humorous read is full of charm and personality, leaving you grinning from ear to ear.

Voluntarily reviewing this book.

Honestly a surprisingly fun and light read for a series that is full of what can probably best be described as psychotically obsessed lead males. There are darker moments but they honestly just add spice. There is plenty of banter, witty moments and fun in this book as well which just makes it better. It is a nice short and fun read if you like a jealous, possessive, will do anything to get his woman lead. A perfect spicy treat for the cold nights.

Oh what a way to end a series! 💥
It’s a quick but intense read. And from the start I felt like how is the MMC gonna pull this off and the the story begins .. and let me tell you it’s going and it went really really well! 🥳

Salem grew on me, at first I was hesitant to think I would like him but I did and Peach with her sass made him work for it. 🥰

A fun read with a mix of emotions, banter, some twist and with a guaranteed HEA. ❤️‍🩹

Fernando weaves a tale of obsession with his mate in his unique Salem style of courtship. Salem is one of the most feared assassins in all the realms. Who does this unhinged wolf shifter get paired with but a sweet baker named Peach. Peach does not know what hit her when she meets her faded mate, Salem, who beat her brother up once. Sad to see the Fated Love series conclude; I hope Fernando will come back and write more in this dynamic realm she has built.

Une romance improbable entre Salem, tueur invétéré et la douce Salem. J'ai beaucoup aimé cette rencontre de deux contraires mais je pense que ce duo aurait mérité une histoire plus approfondie . Dommage !
An unlikely romance between Salem, a hardened killer, and sweet Salem. I really enjoyed this meeting of two opposites, but I think this duo deserved a more in-depth story. We leave this excellent, truly spicy romantasy saga behind.

Salem is something else, that for sure, he has one mind and that is his own. I would call him certified insane. Peach is a bit of a peacemaker who wants everyone to like each other, so not happening with Salem for her mate. It was a funny read, how Salem thinks and what he wanted to do to keep his mate safe. All in all a short nice story about shapeshifters and magic.

I looked forward to this one as I had really enjoyed the series. This one wasn’t my favorite. Peach’s feelings around her brother felt really sudden at the end compared to how she felt the rest of the book. I don’t recall the other 5 books in this series being quite this fast paced, but maybe it fit the bill for Salem anyway.
