Ashby, Michael F. in Engineering Materials and Processes E-Mega Reference argues that the way we shop, scroll, and sign up for stuff is designed to wear down our attention on purpose. Half-baked in spots, I'll admit, because some of the stats feel cherry-picked. But the section on notification design made me turn off half my apps that same night. You might roll your eyes at the doom-and-gloom tone, but it'll make you look at your screen time differently.
