Lilith: Life was on a Tsunami ride to hell given the shit storm she was handed, coping with the death of her grandfather. Leaving Lilith to deal with the brutality of finding out everything she knew, about herself, about her granddad. About life in general was a cluster fuck built on lies. Angus: Plagued with dreams about a raven haired beauty, her perfection was divine, it overwhelmed him. And yet Angus continued to have visions of a vow he and his brothers made to a fae prince long ago. How far would Angus go in order to protect his own family? would he find the one he seeks in dreams or will Angus claim the one he despises most.
Lilian Jade lives in the land of the Hobbits, (New Zealand) growing up in the South of Auckland the majority of her upbringing.
Lilian graduated high school, and is currently undergoing her bachelors degree (subject preferred to be kept unknown). Lilian has been writing for a little over nine years, and only now has decided to have her work published.
Lilian will be publishing her first debut novel "Highland Darkness" which is book 1 in "The Donahue McGregor Saga" on the 3rd of October as an independent author.
Lilian is a proud wife, with three adorable children, she has no fur babies to cuddle (Awe) she loves to drink coffee, eat chocolate, and enjoys a nice glass wine, Lilian enjoys family time, writing, and surfing the net (lol).
I had the utmost pleasure of Beta Reading this book, and I gotta say, the premise of this saga is wonderful. I found myself alternatively laughing, crying or clenching my fists in rage at some of the scenes in this book. Fans of the PNR genre will fall in love with the entire cast of this story.
I can't say too much without giving things away, but the story concentrates on Lilith, a seemingly hopeless and helpless girl grieving for her recently deceased grandfather -- a gentle and loving man...or so she thought. As the story progresses, she realises that she didn't know her beloved Papa as much as she thought she did. In fact, she doesn't even know herself. Sometimes, the deepest secrets are the ones someone has kept about you, and when the closet door creaks open, there's no way of telling what skeletons will fall out. I really enjoyed this book, and can't wait to read more in the series.
Lilian Jade's Highland Darkness is a paranormal romance. Bring tissues when you read this because this author holds no punches when she hits you with a tear jerker right off the bat. At least it was that way for me, but then I cried for Old Yeller DAMMIT. Her plot has surprising twists and turns, just when I was getting ready for the book to go one way then WHAM we are in another. It keeps you on your toes and I thoroughly enjoyed this though it is not a standalone. I'm eagerly waiting to hear more from her!
I loved this book! It's so great, especially when you consider that it's by brand new author, Lilian Jade. She makes the characters come alive and makes you believe in the Fae. Not every faerie is a cute little flying person that makes their clothes from flowers and leaves.
This AWESOME story is one you'll remember, For a very long time!
The Beginning of a beautiful series, this book takes you on a journey of self discovery. It rips your heart out for this poor grieving girl then sweeps you off your feet by some highland hunks. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you might even need a cold shower but one thing is certain....I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!
Eeesh. So much angst and hod backs between L & A. I had the great honor to beta read this story and loved it then, but now.. I love it all the More. The dialogue, the character's, the story line flowed all together. This is more than a 5star book. But gr won't allow us above 5. Can't wait for the next installment. Another top shelfer.
OMG!!!! this book is amazing. so much action an the twists an turns...WOW....watching Lilith learn an what she is an Angus trying to deal with who an what she is.....soooo intense...this is a 5-star read from beginning to end....Loved it!!!
Warning: this is not a standalone novel and has the length of a longer novella.
I quite enjoyed this story and am very eagerly awaiting the next installment! There were a couple things that I hope the author works out or the story will be a little disjointed. First, I really liked the female lead. She is independent and a lady, which is rare in today's world. She is also a virgin which will come into my review later. Lilith, the female lead, has just lost her grandfather at the start of the story and is going to travel from New Zealand to Scotland to bury him per his last request. It is there that Lilith discovers that she is actually fae and her grandfather has been hiding secrets from her her whole life. After she gets to Scotland it is like everything goes wrong and Lilith is almost assassinated by evil faeries. This is where she meets the guardians of her inherited home, which are all men and all married except one. (I'm sure you can see where this is going?) The male lead of the story is the unmarried brother (did I mention that all six guardians are brothers as well?) and, although he is thinking that he really likes the female lead, he only ever says mean and hurtful things to and about Lilith. Lilith and Angus, the male lead, have a great sexual chemistry that does come into play but they have not consummated their physical desire for each other by the end of this book. And although the desire between the main characters is really strong as soon as an available beautiful female cones along Angus is content to bask in this newcomer's flirtation and come - on ' s while completely ignoring Lilith and ask he has worked hard for with her. And of course, being the smart girl she is, Lilith decides to not have much of anything to do with Angus if he is going to make a game of playing around with her and then sleeping with some other woman (there is no actual evidence he did this but things aren't looking good for him if he's innocent). Soon after Lilith makes this decision, another man comes into her life and takes her emotions and desires by storm. She saves his life and because of that he views to protect and support her in any way she might need. And I do mean any way. As the reader, it is really hard not to root for the newcomer because he seems like such a good guy and will do anything for Lilith, while Angus can only seem to make her feel bad about herself and make her think he hates her. There is a part of me that still does root for Angus anyway because you can read his thoughts and know he is falling in love with Lilith. A negative pay off this story for me was the extremely fast paced storyline. I know some people just love that but I wanted to show the story down just a bit and explain things a bit more before moving on to the next part off the story. I was also kind of mad about the way the story ended because Lilith gets hurt and discovers another side of herself that Angus again makes her feel awful about. Then when Lilith wakes up from her injury induced coma, Angus is demanding to see her and claim her as his own when it still looks like he is sleeping with this whore. You just don't know what to think! Especially since Angus manhandled Lilith up to his room and starts to make it with her, and then bam! The end. That just makes me mad that I have to wait before finding out how everything ends! One other thing that bothered me that had nothing to do with the author or the storyline is that the editor kept making very annoying grammatical and punctuation errors. That is just something that messes up the story and the way that the words were meant to be read. Very bothersome! But this is a great story overall and worth the time and money invested in the story.
>I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock. This is the first book in the Donahue McGregor saga and ends in a big 'ol cliffy.
>Lilly lost her parents early in her life and was sent from her home in Scotland to New Zealand to be raised by her grandfather. Fast forward in time and Lilly is planning the funeral for her beloved grandfather. Finding out she owns a castle in Scotland and is an heiress does not take away the pain of her loss.
>Angus and his 5 brothers are immortal highlanders, living at the castle in Scotland. They were hired as children and gifted with immortality and powers as long as they promise to defend the castle and it's rightful inhabitants. When Angus meets Lilly, he fights the fact she is his mate, but cannot fight the pull he has for Lilly.
>More information regarding Lilly is revealed and a battle between fae and the highlanders ensue. Taking Lilly to a friend's castle to keep her safe, Lilly meets Amadeus. She now feels a pull towards Amadeus and Angus.
>I love all things highlander! and this story was no exception. I love the personality battles between Angus and Lilly, and truly believed they were the soul mate of the other. How does the attraction to Amadeus fit in? I did not enjoy that twist at all and was hoping the author would clear things up a bit when the story just ends. Even though I hated that part, I still loved the book. The different highlander family members were interesting and fun to read. The author hinted at different story lines in the background for Kate, especially. This made me think that I must have missed a book in the series, but I didn't. Maybe she was setting the stage for a prequel book. I really can't wait to see where this story goes.
> This book is for an adult (18+) audience due sexual descriptions.
I just want to start out by saying that I am so proud of Lilian and her book. She did an amazing job and I for one hope that this is the beginning of a wonderful career. My first thought when I finished this book was “NO IT CAN'T END HERE!!!!” Lilian leaves us wanting more and that is a sign of a great author. I for one will be waiting on pins and needles for book two to come out.
Lilith is going through a tough time, she has little to no money and she just found out that her papa (grandfather) just died. That one event set in motion things that will change Lilith forever. Her dear departed papa didn't tell her some pretty important thing about him and herself. I really can't go into much detail because it will give to much of the book away but I will tell you that Lilith will meet some pretty hott men. (Angus, and Amadeaus)
Now what I feel like I can tell you is:
Angus is a highlander that is hot as hell. I would have fallen head over heals for him IF he wasn't such an ass to Lilith (you will understand more when you read this awesome book) we get to see more of him and Lilith than we do Lilith and Amadeaus. As of right now I am team Amadeaus all the way. What little we did see of the two characters together I absolutely loved! There is more so much more to the story but that is all I'm going to say because I want everyone to buy this book and find out on their own. So please people go out and buy my amazing creative friends book you will not be disappointed I promise.
From start to finish this book draws you in and keeps you in suspense. This is a book that is so hard to put down once you start reading it and when you reach the end you are already looking for the next book. Lillith grows as a character as she goes through a journey of self discovery to find out who and what she is. She learns about the world of the fae and magic and that there is more to the world than she ever thought possible. And of course what story is not complete without the thick headed highlander himself, Angus, who has his own discoveries to make about himself and the woman he can't keep his hands off of. I enjoyed his antics through out the story that both made me want to slap him and hug him at the same time(or maybe kiss him but that's Lilliths job). This book gets a full 5+ stars from me and I can't wait for the next installment of Highland Darkness.
I love Paranormal and Highland Hunks is just icing on the cake LOL. This a great new series for me to enjoy. Lilith bless her heart not everything is what it seems. She loses her grandfather whom she adores to the ends of the earth but once he's gone things start coming out of no where and now she doesn't even know herself anymore. So many secrets. I can't wait for book 2 and I'm glad I purchased this when I did. I cried and laughed and got a bit pissed off but its all part of reading if books can do that to ya its so worth it :)
4.5 Stars! There were aspects of this book that I really enjoyed and thought that the author did very well. I loved the connections with Scotland and Angus and his brothers protecting the castle. Then there were a few parts where I felt confused, almost as if I had missed previous books in the series. The relationships between Angus' brothers and their wives felt like it could have been it's own series and I was missing something. Overall, I was very intrigues by this story and I'm interested in seeing what happens next.
Lillian Jade's novel is outstanding. You certainly will not be disappointed when you purchase Highland Darkness. Her style of writing will captivate you. I couldn't put the novel down until I found myself on the last page wanting more. The characters will pull you in and have you experiencing their adventure right along with them. 5 stars. Go get your copy. You won't be disappointed to say the least.
Lots of twists and turns. So many secrets hinted at but not yet revealed. TONS of unresolved sexual tension and powerful carnal attractions that leave you breathlessly waiting for more. Lilith is lovely and likeable but she's also mystery to herself and everyone else. She seems to attract the attentions of every gorgeous, strong alpha type male she encounters.
I can't wait for the book and mysteries it will reveal.
I had the pleasure of ARC and Bata reading Highland Darkness for Lilian, and I have to say for her first book it totally rocked. I am 100% certain that anyone who reads this book will be completely compelled and enthralled by the characters. AWSOME job Lilian Jade and I for one can not wait for the second book to be released in the series.
This book was great. I would recommend it to my friends and everyone else. It's a must read. When u start u can't stop cause it keeps u so into it. 5 stars from me. Read this book if u haven't yet u really need to. Cause if not your missing out on a great book.
It was a great read. It has fae's Highlanders, shifters and vampires. Great start for this authors first novel. I hope to read more about Lillith, Angus and Amadeus in Highland Storm!
I really enjoyed this first book in this new series. It kept me entertained from the first page and the story flowed at a wonderful pace. It unfolded slowly so you can take in all the details, not just with the locations in the book but with the history of the families involved. You learn that there’s much more to Lilith than you first see; she grows emotionally as well as goes through physical changes. She discovers that her grandfather kept an incredibly huge secret from her and the way Lilith responds to finding out about her heritage was very well done. Instead of having her accept it without question, the author has Lilith struggle with this new secret and information.
Angus and his family is a warm and loving family, and they try to help Lilith as much as they can. Angus is especially drawn to her but can’t wrap his head or heart around the fact that she could be his soul mate. I enjoyed the history behind this family and why they are the keepers of the castle that is rightfully Lilith’s. I also enjoyed watching Angus struggle with his emotions, as well as his desires when it comes to Lilith.
The only drawback for me is towards the end of the book. I had to re-read a few passages in hopes to understand why Lilith seems to want to give herself to every male she meets, which exception of Angus’s brothers. I still don’t quite understand since the book ends on a cliffhanger. I’m hoping that the next book will explain more about what she’s going through and how she deals with all that’s been thrown at her. I’ll definitely be looking forward to the second book’s release.
