Laney Smith, the mother of two sons, is an American author who was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and raised in Texas. In her teen years, she and her family (including two younger brothers) moved to Colorado. Laney has also lived in Mississippi and currently resides in Southern California. Since a writing career seemed to persistently tug on her shirt tails, Laney eventually decided to try her hand at the art, writing news articles for a local newspaper. After numerous front page features, a new passion was born and the storyteller decided to try her hand at fiction. Her debut work, Lock Creek: One Year’s Time is still one of her most popular, frequently read works, proving that she managed to escape the “first is the worst” curse. In fact, Smith’s Lock Creek series won a “books-to-screen” contest and is currently being adapted for a television series, with other potential “books-to-screen” projects looming on the horizon. At the time of this publication, Laney currently has eight novels to her credit, as well as short stories in two anthology projects (no longer in print). She also released one novel under another pen name. Looking back, Smith’s only regret is that she did not start writing, sooner. When she is not submerging herself in her fictitious worlds, conjuring up riveting stories, Laney enjoys spending time with her family. Whether she is in the mountains, hanging out at tide pools, watching a sporting event, or enjoying some form of art, the writer’s mind is always dreaming up the next page-turning tale. Having accomplished so much in such a short time (Lock Creek: One Year’s Time, her first work, was published July 2014), Laney Smith has found her passion and her calling. The author, with her feet firmly planted, guarantees her readers that she is here to stay.

In Their Own Time This sequel picks up where the first one left off...... Jimmy talks some sense into Derrick by the “practice what you preach” method and telling him “to let her go or go get her.” He decided he wasn’t going to lose her for any reason, so he sets off to do just that. This is their love story but there is so much more going on in Lock Creek. It’s just plan fun watching these two figure things out between them... like Derrick takes Anne’s parents to lunch, and Oh My Goddess, what a beautiful fiasco that was. Derrick got their blessing though. Shopping for “the ring” was great fun. Then came the proposal, but it was the way he went about it..sigh... then came the engagement dinner and St Patrick’s Day is picked for the big day. But first there’s the Baptism that Anne must go through just like all the Decker women before her. This story just keeps delivering the goods with Parades, outrageous snow cones, watching fireworks from a boat on the lake, and the most erotic night fishing.....but of course reality and duty interruptions are part of a Sheriffs life. In this case it’s about a missing boy. Curtis Ivy, the undersheriff believes the mother knows where the boy is. Derrick watched her and decided that she did know. So can Derrick work his magic on her and get at the truth? More importantly will the boy still be alive? Then there’s a catastrophe with a very pregnant Chelsea and a bag of tator tots and Danny. Anne comes to the rescue with 4 large orders of tator tots for the cranky mother to be. ... wonderful comic relief.....but it doesn’t stop there. Oh no, there’s a ride along program that has Anne all kinds of turned around. She remembers the motorcycle rides for charity and how the women were with her man. I get it. I mean his nickname is Sheriff McSexy for Goddess sake! And yes he is! I do believe this could wind up being their first real fight... Anne goes on a ride along with Derrick. I enjoyed this ride along very much. The holidays were extra special because Chelsea and Danny have baby Emilia and it’s all a first for Anne and Derrick too. These two are truly amazing together. Just wait until you get to the tuxedo part of the wedding prep. Freaking unbelievably hilarious! Meanwhile Anne’s dress is to die for. Beautiful, elegant and graceful. Derrick had the honeymoon handled. But it’s a secret. The wedding was beautiful, I laughed and teared up over lovely speeches and crazy antics at the reception. The honeymoon was deliciously erotic. There’s also a couple more secrets in here that I’m not going tell. There’s also some pretty amazing things too. You’re gonna have to read this for yourself. Be prepared to be blown away! As for me, I’m on to the next installment. Like right now!
From the first page to the last, this book picked up where One Year’s Time left off with no gaps. Anne and Derrick are still figuring out their relationship, even though Anne is a bit too sensitive for me. If these were real people, Derrick would have blown her off some time ago, but given these folks are what dreams are made of, Smith is showing us that yes, some men can be sensitive and caring, and have an abundance of patience for petulant women. The nosy people still continue to gossip, but we now know they can come together in a big way when the situation warrants it. Another good read and I’m looking forward to book 3. ~ Linda Thompson, Host of www.TheAuthorsShow.com
