Amazing amazing book! I've been working on my habits for years. I've made some really good progress on my own, but this book definitely had what I was missing. I would put this in my top 10 or even top 5 books of must reads. Super easy to read, but very practical and useful. Enjoy!
HIGHLIGHTS: 1. Habits are choices you make from a menu of possibilities, and quite often you make these choices unconsciously.
2. It’s the cravings that drive our habits—so figuring out a way to ignite a craving is essential to forming lasting habits.
3. If you have a life treat or behavior you already crave, then attaching it as a reward to your habit and giving it to yourself immediately after your five-minute habit work will supercharge your habit formation.
4. Your system of accountability should be measured against the difficulty of your habit.
5. If you avoid daily accountability with your habit work, the odds are high you will give up before your habit is automatic.
6. Every time you repeat a behavior, you are giving your brain a cue to recognize this behavior as automatic.
7. Think about how you will feel. Embracing the reason for a goal keeps us emotionally connected to our daily work. Every daily achievement brings us closer to our imagined outcome,
8. For success and happiness in any endeavor, it’s critical that your choices and actions are aligned with these most important values.
9. The more consistent you are with the first habit, the stronger it will become, and you’ll be mentally tougher to pursue the next habit.
10. But every small success along the way is a gift, and every failure is a lesson. With a commitment to the process and understanding that occasional failure doesn’t mean you’re incapable, you WILL reach your habit goal.
Actions: *Sit down with your journal and write down the qualities of your ideal self, a self who embraces positive new habits. *Create a mastermind group that shares your habit goal. *Write the story of who you want to be. Create a character who could be a role model for others. Define the habits, responses, and values of this person.
