Oli the goblin is the last creature anyone would send on a world-ending quest. But the Dark Lord's under siege and without his doomsday weapon, those pesky forces of Good might just get it done this time. Seizing the long-awaited opportunity to serve their Big Boss, Oli and his cousins strike out on a super secret mission to retrieve the doomsday weap- on a road trip to see their family.
With the hopes of every creature sinister and foul riding on them, the goblins hurry directly to their destination. Mostly directly. Okay, so it's more of a zigzag. Also the wicked item delivery network is in shambles on account of the war, and since they're already headed that way, maybe the goblins could help out the Dark Lord's spies and deliver a few evil packages?
Agents of Good await at every stop, but with empty heads and too-big hearts, Oli and his bumbling family deliver the packages (mostly), sabotage the forces of evil (accidentally), and save their Dark Lord (probably). All of this while facing down the dangers of road rage, unionization, and one genie wish gone terribly wrong.
The final battle's brewing between good and evil, and the fate of the world rests in Oli's wriggly little hands.
Alex Knight is filling good books with bad jokes one sentence at a time.
As an author his work includes The Far Wild🦖, Servant of Rage🔥, the Nova Online Trilogy👾, and more.
As an aspiring twin he’s not making much progress, but remains determined.
Alex grew up a sunbaked Floridian. In the veritable far wild that was Florida, he spent his days in the prairies, swamps, and springs of the state’s interior.
Since those simple, sweaty days Alex has lived in many places around the world, including many of the on’s—London, Boston, and (currently) Houston.
In the past Alex has worked as everything from a dishwasher to a communications coordinator. After deciding he didn’t like stability or predictable paychecks he made the jump to become a freelance writer. That soon turned into ghostwriting romance novellas, then ghostwriting science fiction novels. After some time, he was able to excise the ghost from ghostwriting and write his own books.
When Alex isn’t writing, he’s likely lost in a wetland, falling down in his novice hockey league, or playing competitive pinball. Oh, and gaming. Lots of gaming.
"We is Oli and Cousins Hauling Company. And also on road trip to see family!" he added hurriedly. The dragon sucked down a wash of air and Oli stumbled forward, near sucked into the gaping nostrils. "Thou smell of too little intelligence for deceit." "That us!" Oli chirped happily.
Oli is a goblin and as their reputation has them perceived he’s the last one you would want to send on a dark, dangerous and secret world ending quest. Yet that’s exactly what The Dark Lord does, for having brought him a magical Ring, Oli has proven that a goblin can go unnoticed and that may just be useful. Oli must get to Fort Isoglar and retrieve a Key that will rid the lands of The Bright Queen, the Dark Lord’s nemesis, once and for all. To help him on his way Oli enlists his cousins and here begins a family road trip quite like no other!
Wriggly Little Hands by Alex Knight is a fun-filled tale featuring a familiar fantasy world and goblins you’ll fall in love with. Strap on in and let Oli lead you on a rowdy adventure with some surprising and chaotic turns!
Comedic fantasy, ones that are tongue in cheek and offer a light hearted tone are becoming increasingly popular at the moment and I feel this book nestles right into that. Knight’s playful narration is present from the onset and it easily draws readers into what is essentially a wacky story about these goblins on a highly disastrous quest. Our lead goblin is Oli and everytime I talk about him I describe him as adorable and you only have to look at the fantastic chapter heading illustrations that Knight includes to see that I’m right! There’s such an innocence to Oli, he’s so eager to please and impress, and he just wants to be helpful, particularly to his “big boss”, the Dark Lord. At first it took me a while to get used to Oli’s speech, being a goblin he doesn’t really speak in full sentences, but after a while I stopped noticing that and Oli just stole my heart. In fact when Knight introduces Oli’s goblin cousins, Hob, Gob. Lin One, Lin Two, Robert and Man their banter and their misunderstandings is such a funny element to the story and they all become charming in their own way.
“Goblins haven't really figured out the full range of emotions yet. While other folk experience passion, and wonderment, and are free to ponder the great mysteries of life, goblins mainly get by in one of three states: panicked, hungry, or looking to set something on fire. Oli and his cousins felt all three as the sand collapsed inward and dragged them into the desert's depths.”
The story begins as a Lord of the Rings parody but soon enough Knight moves away from this, which I was grateful for. Don’t get me wrong I loved the parody, I loved seeing the smallest hero being a swamp-dwelling goblin, ever perceived as the villain in fantasy novels such as LotR itself and to see the Dark Lord actually get the Ring was pretty fun too. Yet I was hoping for more from the story than a retelling and that’s just what I got. As Oli and co become more of a delivery service, things really start to get wild! I also appreciated the nods to other fantasy and literature works which became such fun to spot. I particularly enjoyed seeing the Overlook Hotel from Stephen King’s The Shining and a mention of Pet Sematary and then we have nods to Sherlock Holmes, and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Along the way we also meet some fantasy staples such as a dragon, orcs, a golem and even a genie. It’s clear throughout that Knight enjoys playing with familiar fantasy tropes and likes to turn them around to make his readers see them in different, humorous lights.
As the novel progresses I began to think about some of the deeper themes Knight illustrated. The notion that goblins were disgusting, unimportant and often overlooked was a significant viewpoint that was explored and one that made me feel quite sad because at every turn Oli and the gang proved this to be utterly wrong. Sure everything that could go wrong for them does go wrong and they’re not exactly highly intelligent or organised but goblins could indeed be courageous, daring, loyal, and most of all kind. There were other themes too such as free will, good vs evil and the importance of leaving a review! You’ll have to read the book to see what I mean here! I wholly appreciated that by the end of the book these goblins are no longer ignored, they have friends, granted unusual ones but friends all the same, and they also learn much about themselves. They learn their worth. I was not expecting to feel so incredibly proud of Oli, but I was.
“Even though he was perched atop the wagon, he felt small. It wasn't unusual for goblins to feel small seeing as, well, they were among the smallest of sentient species. But the city made him feel a new kind of small. The kind of small that wasn't a bad thing. The kind of small that opened his eyes to how big the world could be and how much potential could be found in it.”

Wriggly Little Hands is a chaotic, clever, and unexpectedly heartfelt adventure that charmed the goblin socks right off me.
At first glance, it reads like a parody, winking at classic quest tropes with its band of scrappy goblins and a not-so-epic mission, but Alex Knight manages to spin something entirely fresh from the familiar. What begins as a comedic romp gradually reveals a story full of surprising tenderness and thoughtfulness, especially around themes of identity, belonging, and how we’re seen by the world versus who we truly are.
Oli and his cousins are pure gremlin delight. Their distinct voices (complete with quirky speech patterns) might take a few pages to settle into, but once you do, their personalities shine. There’s a lot of heart in this book, and the goblin perspective brings an emotional depth I didn’t expect. Knight strikes a delicate balance between humor and introspection, making you laugh one moment and reflect the next.
If you’ve ever wondered what The Lord of the Rings might feel like if told from the point of view of the goblins, this is it. The story never takes itself too seriously, and yet, by the end, I cared deeply.
If you’re looking for a fantasy book that’s silly, smart, and full of heart, this one absolutely deserves a spot on your shelf.
Who doesn't love a short fun book filled with silly moments and snappy chapters?
This was such a fun and adventures read with Alex's beloved goblins, and i loved every second of it. The chapters are short and snappy, Oli and his cousins are great and hilariously stupid and I'm here for it! With awesome family moments and new friends from all around the places you are in for a fantastic journey.
Trigger warning - this book is gonna make you laugh, so buckle up.
I usually gravitate toward darker, more emotional stories, but Wriggly Little Hands completely caught me off guard. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, and honestly? It was exactly the feel-good book that I needed.
What begins as a parody of a few beloved fantasy books quickly blossoms into its own delightfully bizarre, whimsical, and enchanting tale. Every page is brimming with heart and joy, wrapping you up in that same cozy, comforting vibe that Legends and Lattes delivers—like a warm hug and a steaming mug of tea.
Knight’s writing is effortlessly engaging, making it nearly impossible to put down. The dialogue is sharp and laugh-out-loud funny, the world-building is imaginative, and the heartwarming moments sneak up on you in the best way. It’s a lighthearted, magical escape that feels like coming home to a place you never knew you missed.
With its quirky charm, lovable characters, and fantastical setting, Wriggly Little Hands is a true gem, and a must-read for anyone craving joy, wonder, and just a little bit of weird.
This was an absolute joy to read. I needed something a little lighthearted on my flight and this absolutely delivered on that. The author had such a way of making each of our characters distinctive and yet also undeniably goblin.
Oli is sent on a quest by the dark lord and chaos ensues. Basically, in a nutshell. Oh, and he starts a delivery service by accident. Also, there’s a dead horse, ghosts, Legolas(ish), Sherlock(ish), Dr. Frankenstein(ish), and a host of riotous characters. As well as some touching moments and character growth.
I really don’t know how to describe this, but please just read it. You will have a fantastic time.
This is a super goofy fantasy which parodies lots of well known fantasy novels and tropes. It's chock full of puns and the most groan-worthy dad jokes, but it also has the most heart-warming underlying message. Warning: will make you fall in love with slimy little goblins. Perfect for fans of Dreadful by Caitlin Rozakis and DnD players
It has a strange, bouncy, almost sing-song cadence to it that feels incongruous with the events that are unfolding, almost as if you’re viewing everything through the lens of a creature that doesn’t have a full understanding of events and is overlaying everything with their own slightly skewed and childish viewpoint. In short: as you are reading this book, you are not simply observing the journey of a band of goblin cousins, the narrative drags you down until you are viewing things from their perspective. The jokes that are constantly flying are aimed over your head, assuming that you too are a goblin, but as the human/goblin hybrid you are while reading this book, you get to appreciate the dichotomy.
You get to laugh at the goblins, who are the butt of a grand cosmic joke culminating in their very existence, while simultaneously getting to enjoy life as a goblin. The simple joy of one’s cousin constantly starting fires underneath strangers. The childlike excitement of hugging a necromantic horse. Making new friends, who may or may not be horrific wraiths.
It makes for a bizarrely heartwarming experience while also enforcing a juddering, breakneck pace on the book to reflect the goblin’s limited attention span that you are currently inhabiting. Events unfold with a rapidity that would make it impossible for the slow-witted goblin to follow, but once again, as a reader with the benefit of not being a goblin, we get to experience that on two levels.
I have followed Mr Knight’s career since his earliest books, recommending some to those who would find them entertaining, because I could see the foundations of a truly great author underneath the issues that I had with them. But with this book we have the first of hopefully many future books by the author which I can recommend wholeheartedly and without caveat.
What he has achieved here is not just a work of comedic fantasy fiction, but a piece of dark magic drawing the reader to inhabit the vessel of these characters and their limited and skewed viewpoint while still providing ample hints to the reader as to the larger picture so that it can be fully appreciated.
Is it funny? That’s always going to be subjective, though I can say that I was chuckling along through most of my read through.
Is it an objectively “good” book? That I can answer with a yes. Even if the genre was not to your taste, even if the writing style was not to your taste, this is a book with things to say, and it should not be overlooked just because many of the things it is saying happen to be silly.
Just as there are specific books in genres that I know friends do not enjoy, that I recommend to them because they are books worth reading regardless of that, so too would I recommend Wriggly Little Hands to anyone, regardless of how they feel about comedy, fantasy, and the combination of the two. It is a book that makes you a goblin, if only for a short time, and that alone is surely worth the price of admittance.
This comedic fantasy adventure is such a delightful read! Imagine sending your least likely hero – a bumbling, mischievous goblin – on a world-ending quest. Oli the goblin is the last creature you'd expect to send. It’s like having a toddler coach the Super Bowl… and hoping they somehow make it through the game without total disaster.
The plot, as ridiculous as it is brilliant, follows Oli and his equally clueless cousins on a mission for the Dark Lord (because who else would send goblins on such an important task?). What ensues is pure chaos and humor. The goblins face a series of misadventures: from accidentally sabotaging wrongdoers, to navigating the struggles of road rage (and countless other relatable challenges). As they bumble their way through the mission, it’s clear that they’re not exactly the sharpest tools in the shed. But who needs brains when you've got... well, a lot of heart, and maybe a bit of luck on your side?
In short, this book is a hilarious romp through the absurdity of fantasy tropes, featuring a gaggle of lovable, blunderous, souls. It's a reminder that sometimes the best heroes are the ones you least expect. With a blend of unexpected humor, a fellowship of zany goblins, and plenty of ridiculous situations, this comedic fantasy will keep you laughing from start to finish.
So the first book I had read by this author was a fantastic epic fantasy novel, therefore I was little prepared for this book, which came as such a pleasant surprise. It is a book which is hilarious and whose main characters are goblins, far from epic fantasy, however the book is a breath of fresh air and I loved it. Their is still a battle of good against evil, and our small protagonists are working for the Lord of darkness and chaos, so they are meant to be evil, but they are goblins and have not a bad bone in their bodies. Oli and his big group of cousins embark on a dangerous quest to serve the dark lord, and on the way are asked by others who they encounter to deliver parcels for them whilst on their way. Mostly they can pass unseen, however once seen they cannot be unseen again, and thus they were hounded by the soldiers of the Queen of Light who hated those who served the dark. Oli has a lot to teach us, so this book is not simply hilarious, it shows the importance of family, working together, unionizing, and most especially being kind even to those who are supposed to be our enemies. This is a book that needs to be read and I cannot wait to read the next book of adventure and exploits our charismatic team of goblins embark upon. Thank you Alex Knight for being such a superb and versatile writer.
Goblin chaos, family adventure and broken English is the easiest way for me to describe Wriggly Little Hands. If any of that catches your attention, then join Oli and his cousins in their wondrous adventure to help the biggest boss around.
Oli is such a kind hearted little goblin that wants to see his family and friends happy. He goes relatively unnoticed in life until he starts this trip with his cousins, Hob, Gob, Man, Lin One, Lin Two and Robert. Along the way, they acquire a rather large collection of packages to deliver. Because of delivering said packages they run into new friends and enemies. This little group makes such an impact on their new friends, it gives found family vibes.
One of the friends they meet along the way is Sherrock, he is a detective. He understands that despite not being the brightest crayon in the box, Oli can still make some beautiful art if given enough time for his little brain.
My favorite character is Lin Two. She is just pure goblin chaos and a little ball of energy. And her love for Horse is so genuine and pure, it's hard not to love her too.
I was lucky enough to read this as an ARC and will reread in the future! If you are looking for a wholesome, quirky, and fun read, Wriggly Little Hands is a perfect fit for you!
Thank you to Alex Knight for reaching out and giving me a review copy of Wriggly Little Hands!
This story follows Oli and his mischievous and hilarious goblin family as they traverse the world, delivering packages and ultimately trying to help their Dark Lord. This story had a lot of heart, a lot of amazing characters, and A LOT of funny moments.
You ever saw a video on the Internet so funny, you couldn't stop laughing? Yeah that was me most of the time reading this book. I was literally laughing out loud while on break at my job!
One thing I will say is that one of my favorite scenes was when the goblins were shopping for a wagon. Trust me when you read this you will be laughing for awhile.
This story was well deserving of 5⭐s. Alex done an amazing job with the world, the characters, and the laughs! A wonderful and fun read.
On its surface it has a lot going for it. Chaotic goblin family road trip on a mission to find the ultimate weapon of darkness for the big boss (dark Lord) and defeat the army of the Bright Queen, sounds awesome right? and it would have been if Knight had trusted his story to stand on its own two feet rather than shoving dozens of references to other stories into a trench coat and drowning it in tortured puns.
Sherrock Stones? Sandlantis? ARMOLAS?!
see, the thing is, Terry Pratchett dotted silly references around here and there but told his own story and weaved his own world. he used humor and parody to explore themes of philosophy, religion, duty, and a thousand other topics of depth and feeling. Knight clearly wants, DESPERATELY, to walk in his footsteps but without having anything of substance to say.
Do you like funny cat videos? Do you like high fantasy? Yes? Oh, good, this book is for you.
Oli and his band of cousins are on a mission that every other servant of the dark lord has failed miserably. Can the goblins do it? Can anyone correctly pronounce Gob's name? Will they teach the weirdly dry and clean humans how to make proper mud pies?
You'll have to read to find out, but be forewarned: you'll giggle, snort, chuckle, and potentially even guffaw if you do.
I had a great time reading this as an ARC, and I ordered the paperback the day it went on sale. I'll definitely be rereading this on days when I'm sick, sad, or surly to lift my spirits and look on the squishier, slimier side of life.
I will admit I listened to the audiobook version by Soundbooth theatre and loved it! While I found some of the characters really difficult to listen to it was more because they were so well portrayed in their condescension, belittling and ignorance at times. However the goblins and their special brand of chaos grows on you as well as the way their adventure seems to evolve and grow in such unpredictable ways. Ollie is just so friendly, willing to help and trust others while looking out for the cousins that I loved his energy and how much he grows throughout the book. All of the goblins have such unique characters and they meld together so well that they bounce off each other sometimes literally.
Was so lucky to receive an ARC copy of this incredible book! I had no idea just how much fun reading this story was going to be. Following these crazy goblins was so funny and engaging, I got through the story in record time. It is a chaotic, adventurous fantasy spectacle with enough heart to really get the job done. So many parodies of other well known works are made throughout the story that it feels familiar even though we’re focusing on what is generally comedy filler characters in the fantasy genre. You definitely can’t count out these silly goblins, even if they do have a few blunders along the way! Well worth the read and highly recommended!
This book is an outstanding heart warming adventure filled with so many pulp culture references that you stumble over them!
I found myself laughing from beginning to end, both at and along with the quirky characters and hysterical situations.
If you like fantasy adventure novels this book is for you! This is a great read filled with goofy characters, magic, world ending stakes, and laughs all wrapped up in epic adventure.
Like reading a cartoon about my favorite fantasy creatures on a journey of self-discovery!
There is no right or wrong way to write a goblin, just interesting takes. Alex Knight takes the fun route of goblins, and it is a fun ride throughout! I had a lot of fun sussing out what was really going on through the eyes of naive goblins that have such innocent minds. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading something lighthearted that doesn't take itself too seriously. If you love a silly fun guy style of goblin, this is for you!
Wriggly Little Hands is an imaginative and fun read. The angle that Alex Knight takes with the story and character development is unique and creative. You can’t help rooting for these innocent little trouble makers. Oli and his family turn the world upside down with a smile. I hope to see more adventures for Oli and his family in the future. Thank you for a great reading experience. James Walker
I can admit my attention span is shot versus what it used to be but I was able to finish this book within a week. The short chapters, great writing and just plain fun I was having reading the book helped with that.
If you want a light read that is a good laugh set in a fantasy world with plenty of references to the vast amount of obvious works the Author loves, pick this up!
A light hearted and fun read that gives Terry Pratchett vibes with some fun modern Easter eggs. For lovers of the weird and wonderful. If you appreciate quirky, dungeons and dragons, and root for the underdog definitely give this a crack. Very glad to have picked it up. This book is the ultimate side quest #teamgoblin
An absolutely delightful book! This story is packed full of cheesy moments, silly jokes, and eye roll worthy puns. And its absolutely fantastic for it! With some cute nods to other famous books or real life things, I found this light comedy to be positively wonderful! if you're a fan of hard-core puns and silly jokes as well as fantasy, this is a great book for you!
Unique fantasy novel. I can honestly say that I have never encountered a book like this. Having a dumb goblin as the MC was a bold choice. It did lead to quite a few comedic moments. Overall this books was a lot of fun.
Do you like goblins? Do you like fun silly adventures? Wriggly little hands may be the book for you! Taking inspiration from another dark lord and a fellowship, this little band of goblins if off an adventure of a life time! This isn't the normal book I'd pick up and listen to, but I'm glad I did.
A really simple tale, well written with likeable characters and a happy ending. A great read if you’re feeling stressed or just want a pleasant way to pass an hour or two
This was such a fun and heartwarming read. I absolutely loved it. It gave me Terry Pratchett vibes and I wish there was a sequel! I want to know what Oli and his cousins get up to next! Very well done. 5/5 Highly Recommend!
It took me a while to get into, but it is really hard to resist the charm of Oli and his wriggly band of cousins - including a foreign exchange cousin, and an undead horse, called Horse. Good, charming fun!
