When it Raines it pours…but I always did love a storm.

Selene

They chose someone else and walked away from me, leaving me heartbroken and at the mercy of our violent neighbourhood. I will never ever forgive them. I’m not the person Pack Dread left behind. I’m not the fawning, heart eyed girl they knew. In this cruel and heartless world, I’m the thing that bad guys are afraid of.

I’m the monster and they need to beware of my wrath.

Pack Dread

She is gloriously violent and her rage carries the weight of thunder. We came back for revenge, never expecting her to still be here…without a pack. Alone.

Just how we left her.

Except not quite…because this beta…is very much an omega and very, very angry.

Bailey

Every step I take towards finding myself leaves me in an even worse position. Not Despair, not Raines. I don’t even know who I am, but I do know if anyone finds out my secret -I’m ruined.

And then I meet them, and that’s all it takes to bring everything I’m trying to hide to the forefront, leaving me with only one choice.

Choose them, if I’m brave enough.

Going out with a bang and just like that, all the Raines have found their packs. I'm so sad that this series is over. I have loved every single book. Ever since Bailey came into the series, he's been popping up causing mischief. We've seen from past books that his life hasn't been easygoing, and he has been their to help everyone else and step up where his family needed him. But knowing now what he's hiding, I think Selene is the perfect omega for him they round each other out. Pack Dread have a lot of secrets and trying to win their omega back brings all those secrets out. They broke Selene and with the help of their new pack member, maybe it isn't too late to piece their omega back together aswel as themselves. Selene is a kick ass FMC not some dansel in distress and she will fight for the people she loves, whether it been for her pack or her neighbourhood she will keep them safe.

2.5 stars for a 2.5 out of 5 grovel

Not a spoiler free review.

This could have been great, if the alphas hadn’t come in after years on high horses demanding forgiveness and screwing up again at every opportunity.

I like Bailey in general, and even the idea of him being a switch but the unnecessary overlap with Luna, Selene, and the pack was too much. He never apologizes for what he says to Selene about wanting Luna instead of her. It clearly really hurts her and he just suddenly changes his mind about her. One chapter he is taking about how she’s hot but he’s not interested and two chapters later he’s saying she’s the tether holding him to the earth.

The og 3 in the pack never really prove they want Selene for her. Coming back and scenting her and suddenly chasing her feels disingenuous because it feels like it’s just the bond, not HER. they say in their POVs they missed her while they were gone, but they never do a good job of proving themselves to her.

I was expecting angst but Bailey having his heat and getting bonds first was freakin BRUTAL. They were so inconsistent in their dedication to Selene and throwing Bailey in the mix was overkill. They left her when she was going into heat for crying out loud! Selene even says in the last chapters that one of the packs they are on vacation with are devoted to their omega in a way she has never seen before.

I believe the main 3 in the pack care for each other. I believe those three care about Bailey. At the end of the day, I can’t think of a single time they actually chose Selene. With Octavia, they leave her. When they could come home, they stay gone. When they come home, they meet Bailey and bond him. When it’s Selene’s heat, they leave her for revenge. When the MC makes them choose they say it’s for Bailey and Selene, but it just doesn’t seem sincere since that’s Baileys family and it’s not just her. There are times when Bailey is the main focus but not Selene and it was honestly sad.

another book I want to throw across the room. the pack are aholes who are doing zero to grovel for abandoning Selene to poverty and struggle for years. Instead they laugh at her anger and pain and keep saying bs like "we were always coming back for you." Then why did you leave and not contact her for what like 7 years??? they can all take a really long walk off the shortest pier.

I can’t believe we’re here at the end of the story of how all the kids in the Raines Pack found their Happily Ever Afters. Six books, six wonderful stories. Well, seven, if you count Bethany’s novella (I do, for sure).

If you’re a fan of strong omega FMCs, then you’re going to love Selene, the neighborhood guardian who makes sure everyone has what they need, is taken care of, and is protected from the gangs and other predators that try and screw with those she considers hers. Selene is the definition of, “if you want a job done right, you got to do it yourself” combined with, “f*ck around and find out”. The first leaves her perpetually exhausted, while the second one results in her being perpetually filled with rage. Honestly? Same, girl.

The tone of Cost of Courting isn’t as dark as the previous book, Drown My Sorrow, even if the content is (btw, a lot of TW/CW with this one, see Tea’s website for more info). All of the Raines books have a “gray romance” vibe to them, where the content tends to be darker and the characters tend to be more morally ambiguous than most omegaverse novels, and CoC is no exception: these characters have lived rough lives in a rough place and have had to see and experience things no one should have to at a young age. But where Drown My Sorrow was full of grief and deep-seated emotional trauma, CoC is full of deep-seated resentment, feminine rage, protective energy, vengeance, violent tendencies, internalized negative feelings of self-worth, blazing doubt, blatant mistrust, and feral anger. The chemistry crackles and burns every time Selene and Pack Dread butt heads.

The enigma that is Bailey Raines is woven into this book like a delicious, leather-clad puzzle and I love it. Bailey’s always been a bit lost, wandering in at the end of almost every Raines story like a cameo that became more and more essential. In this book he’s one of the stars and we find out so much more about him. It completes the book and the series so well. 4⭐️

I really enjoyed this whole series, and I especially enjoyed Baby Bailey’s.

I really loved Selene. She held onto her hurt and anger like a normal human being- she didn’t fall at her alphas’ feet, didn’t buy their frankly terrible groveling.

But… she lived a life full of hurt and even she got her hea.

miserable

if you want an angry / miserable / emotionally stunted omega with both a saviour and victim complex …. alphas who don’t know how to think or communicate at an adult level and have all the empathy of a carrot …. then this is the book for you 😁

"I am the shield that protects this neighbourhood from the gangs and clubs that want this territory."

If you love a strong fmc lead and an even stronger omega who refuses to back down, who holds two MCs and a gang back single handedly to protect the people she loves - this is for you.

Bailey is struggling to come to terms with his designation - he's a switch. Part omega, part alpha. To him and to the Despair MC, but more importantly his father, being an omega is a weakness. It makes him vulnerable. So they sent him away. He's popped up throughout this series, always ready to protect his family no matter the cost to himself - sound familiar? It's no wonder he and Selene were fated to the same pack.

"Has it occurred to you that being an omega could be a strength rather than a weakness?"

Selene shows him they're all wrong. She has single handedly fought off two MCs and a gang from taking her neighbourhood that voted her their alpha despite being an omega. She proved that the notion "Omegas are ruled by their heats and hormones" is a load of sh*t.

She weaponised her heat and took out the Crimson Cobra's entire gang, proving that it's not omegas who are slaves to their designation.

I loved that Selene didn't just roll over and accept the guys when they returned years after not just leaving her, but chasing an omega who was wearing Selene's dress to convince them she was their mate. She tried explaining it was hers but they didn't listen. They left. They abandoned.

Then seven years later they return - not for her. But for revenge. A lead that someone they're hunting is connected to their old neighbourhood all while doing a job for the Desire MC's preseident - follow and protect his son.

Selene didn't buy into their bullsh*t. She refused to give them the time of day, to let them bulldoze their way into her becoming their mate. She's bitter and she's angry.

"The trick with our omegas is quite clear. Whatever you're going to do, do it quick and get out of hitting range."

I would say she makes them work for it but she both does and doesn't. Bailey never really apologised for the things he said in order to push her away. His words hurt. The guys whilst they apologise and grovel (namely, they take over caring for the neighbourhood so she can have a break but it just makes her feel pushed out).

In the end, when she finally gives in and takes what she wants, it's not for them. It's for herself. She is tired of always giving every part of herself to everyone else and never feeling seen. She's sacrificed everything and for the first time decides to take something for herself.

Speaking of sacrificing everything to protect someone she loves - I hated her sister. Luna is so selfish and self-centred, high. She didn't care about Selene at all. All she cared about was herself and getting out of that neighbourhood and rather than work for it, she wanted an alpha - any alpha - to do it for her. Even in the end, when betraying Selene almost got her killed she turned her back on her sister and went with the alpha who she wouldn't even look twice at until he took her away. She had no character arc in this at all. Even in the end she's still selfish and doesn't care about Selene. She got what she wanted. She's out, married and bonded, and now has a kid but refuses to let Selene even know where she is.

OMG! This book was *chef's kiss*.
If I'm being honest, the WHOLE SERIES was this way. From Scent of Home -- with Locke and his pack -- to Cost of Courting -- with Selene/Bailey and THEIR pack. Tea sucked me in from that first book, from that first PAGE, and she kept me locked in for every Raines book.
There was no shortage of angst and things that riled me up. From the start, you're introduced to the rough life Selene leads. All she's doing is trying to survive -- while also trying to protect both her sister and her neighborhood. Her people. She might be an omega by designation, but she's their alpha and she will do anything she has to in order to protect them. Because of this, she's had to harden up and close herself off. A specific past event did NOT help that matter any.
In comes pack Dread, who hailed from the same neighborhood. The key difference? They left and they caused a lot of pain and agony when they did. It's really no surprise when our infamous Selene throws up walls and tries to drive them off.
But they're a pack on a mission -- with one of their members having a secret secondary one ;) -- and they're determined to make it up to Selene for the pain they caused. No matter the cost.
My favorite part is that we also got a story for Bailey. One of the Raines, he basically had a foot in two different worlds. One was in the MC world and the other in the Raines, as the new head of the Raines musical powerhouse. He was always such an intriguing character. Carefully collected, calm, & downright mysterious. There was no shortage of questions when it came to him.
I will be honest -- I didn't initially like Bailey in previous books. Part of his personality got under my skin a bit, but this book revealed WHY he's that way. It gave me a chance to not only understand him, but see what ran through his head. Getting things from his perspective allowed him to win me over.
All in all, the way they all helped each other heal and move on from all that past trauma... I loved it so much.
This book was literally the BEST way to wrap up an AMAZING series.
Each one was a favorite for a different set of reasons. This one -- Selene for her feisty and determined personality. Bailey, with his intriguing nature. The way they pulled everyone together...I couldn't get enough of it.
I am DEFINITELY sad the series is done and I am in a MAJOR book coma. Signs that Tea did a FANTASTIC job with this series & this book!

I HIGHLY recommend this whole series and I DEFINITELY recommend getting all 6 books so you can binge them back-to-back. They're absolutely worth it!
Already looking forward to what Tea has coming next for us!!

Going out with a bang—and just like that, all the Raines have found their packs. I’m honestly so sad this series is over because I’ve loved every single book. Ever since Bailey first appeared in the background of earlier books causing mischief, I’ve been waiting for his story. We’ve seen glimpses of his struggles—he’s always been the one stepping up for his family, even while carrying his own burdens in silence. Knowing now what he’s been hiding, Selene is absolutely the perfect omega for him. They balance each other beautifully.

Pack Dread has been drowning in secrets, and fighting to win their omega back means every one of them is about to surface. They broke Selene once—but maybe, with Bailey’s help, they can finally start to piece her back together… and maybe heal themselves in the process.

Selene is the definition of a kickass FMC—she’s no damsel in distress. She’s a fighter, for herself, for her neighborhood, for her people. Whether it’s taking on packs or taking on the entire block, she’s going to protect what’s hers. And honestly? I respect her for it.

I can’t believe we’ve reached the end of the journey of all the Raines Pack kids finding their HEAs. Six full-length books. Seven, if you count Bethany’s novella (which I definitely do). And what a ride it’s been.

If you love strong omega heroines, Selene is your girl. She’s the neighborhood’s protector, the one who takes responsibility for everyone around her while muttering under her breath that people can “f*ck around and find out.” She’s perpetually exhausted from doing everything herself and perpetually enraged that she has to in the first place. Honestly? Relatable.

Cost of Courting doesn’t feel as dark in tone as Drown My Sorrow, but the content is still intense. (Major TW/CWs—check Tea’s site for details.) All of the Raines books lean into that morally gray romance vibe, filled with complicated characters who’ve lived hard lives and don’t always make good choices. Where Drown My Sorrow was grief-heavy, CoC burns with resentment, feminine rage, vengeance, mistrust, and feral energy. Every scene between Selene and Pack Dread crackles with unresolved tension and chemistry. And Bailey? He’s like a leather-clad puzzle I didn’t know I needed but now can’t live without.

Bailey has always drifted through the series like a wildcard cameo, popping in just when things got interesting—but here, he finally takes center stage. His arc is the missing piece, bringing the entire series together in such a satisfying way.

When you are more than your designation

Selene is seriously a baddaz woman. She chose to take care of her neighborhood anyway she could. This also meant she is more Alpha in nature than her Omega designation. She is willing to fight to keep the people she cares about safe. Salene learned to take care of herself and her sister from a young age. She had a group of boys that she loved but they left her and she put them out of mind.

Pack Dread has been gone for a long time. They thought they had their Omega but turns out she was a fraud. The fraud caused one of them members to be taken. It has taken a long time for their pack to be whole again, or as whole as it can be without their Omega.

Bailey Raines is a switch. He is both Alpha and Omega and his family had decided he was a liability. He is trying to figure out his life so he can find happiness. He never expected his greatest lessons would come from a tiny Omega who had all the heir of an Alpha.

This story is filled with fighting for your community, you life and the people you love. There is a heat, accidental bonds, reconnecting, rivalries, gangs and hope for a better future.

I loved getting to know Bailey. Him finding Selene shows that being an Omega does not make you weak. You can embrace the soft and still be a force to be reckoned with.

I have absolutely loved getting to know the Raines family and watching them all discover their places and packs.

Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
characters: 5/5

Overall: This book was gutt wrenching amazing. I so much feel for all the MMC's right away.
the FMC character was a BadA$$, and I absolutely loved her and Bailey together. Then you bring in The Pack and Holy Smokes.

I have quite a few different quotes I loved, but this one right here was my number 1 favorite

“He wasn’t mine. Have you met a person who was yours, Eben? A person who made your entire world make sense? They turned on everything: lights, reason, dreams, hope, and feelings. It all made the world unimaginably wonderful? Even when it was awful, and because you were together, it was perfect?”

This quote is going in my favorite quotes book, and I will read it often.

Tea Ravine has pulled off another amazing read. Girl, you are the queen when it comes into pulling a person into your stories and having a grip on them tell the very end.

I absolutely 100% recommended this book. 👌 perfect, absolutely perfect

A fantastic last interconnected stand-alone to the series!

I needed a story with a strong FMC and that’s exactly who I got in this book. I like how we find out the past that made her have to be so strong through her interactions with other characters. Her strength is also constantly being shown, it’s not something that falls away as soon as the MMCs show up.

The connections between all the MCs are messy and it makes things feel real. It takes a lot of time to build or rebuild trust lost and the hang ups each one of them has opens up their backstories to be explored. The way their stories intertwine more than they know was written so well, with a nice little twist at the end.

Our bada** FMC made sure to wrap things up beautifully with the help of some guests that we already knew. As always I love the way the series has characters from previous books drop in and this epilogue brought that in troves.

This was an amazing universe and I’m going to miss all the characters in it!

So Good

This review has some spoilers:

This was a hard read. But knowing Tea Ravine’s style I knew it would be. Selene was put through the ringer, still she was a true badass. The guys were mostly great. Bailey was a bit frustrating because he would go from all in to I haven’t decided if I want to stay.. I know he was going through a lot. Being a switch played on his emotions but it was a bit much.

I wish we got more of the guys’ roles in the MC. It was kinda just sprinkled in at the end.

Luna was a hard character to read about, she had to know some of what her sister went through. She would of heard rumors and noticed small things. I’m not sure if she was just selfish or if she was acting out but damn. Hopefully being with Jo helped her change.

I would absolutely recommend this series and book to any omegaverse lovers.

An omega that is a chosen alpha!

I think this last book is my favorite. I'm sad to see it end but Selene is my favorite omega. I love that despite the struggles she faces, she owns what she can, all while fighting for her neighbors and standing up against a dangerous gang.

The author did an amazing job of showcasing the pain that Selene suffered when Pack Dread abandoned her for another omega. The way her trust had been frayed and the inner strength that she had to develop. Trust has to be earned! It's even harder when you are the one that broke it in the first place.

The best part of this story is how Selene owned her omega traits and didn't see them as a weakness. More was that she became a chosen alpha figure to protect those around her. Combining both things in the best and most unapologetic ways.

Selene, the moon goddess!

Loved!!!! Highly recommend!

I was so excited for Bailey’s story. It’s been one I’ve been looking forward to since I met him in previous books. Tea knocked this one out of the park.

Selene is probably one of my favorite FMCs. She fights to keep the ones she cares about safe. Even though all the main characters were hurt in some way, I love how they came together eventually and connected. Bailey especially learned so much from Selene. Their happiness eventually with pack Dread had me swooning. I will say it took them a while to get there though. I love how Serene teaches them things and they all learn to open their hearts again.

Overall, this story is one of my favorites and it was really good. I love how the connections learned to grow. I highly recommend this beauty if you haven’t read it! Great book!

I couldn’t read it

I can’t. Im less then 10% in and I just can’t. It’s well written. I like the female character. Or I did until the “men” from her past came in. Suddenly she’s not as cool and badass anymore. They treat her like she’s weak or stupid and she does stupid stuff. If they came in seeking forgiveness, it would be different. But they come in thinking she should bend over and just take it, take them back! She’s still mad but even when we get the men’s POV they’re even SAYING that she’s gonna give into them eventually. It’s outrageous and I have my own issues and I just won’t be finishing the book. It’s not what I’m looking for. I want tragedy and stuggles but I also want the men to be fucking respectful. What I did read was well written and well edited. I am sure this story will be good for someone.

This is the sixth and final book in the When It Raines Omegaverse. I was so sad to see this series come to an end. I was also very happy to finally read all about the mysterious and lonely Raines heir.
Bailey has been such an enigmatic character and I was so excited to find out more about him. And let me tell you, his story did not disappoint!! It was a somewhat tragic yet beautiful story. It was heartbreaking, very spicy and thoroughly unhinged!! I swear the MMCs in this pack match the crazy in the Mirakill MC pack!!
Thank you, Tea Ravine, for a beautiful ending for this broken, somewhat crazy and beautiful family. It was everything I could have wished for in a book, I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next!

good read but wanted more

I feel like I liked this book but I also feel like it needed more it felt rushed how Bailey met his pack then out the blue Mael is the shadow that’s been protecting him I don’t know I just needed more on Bailey’s and how did end also how did Marl and the pack know that Bailey was there’s. Also his heat was rushed through. I love how the author ends most of the books with the family gatherings. Selene is a strong omega that gives off alpha she protects everyone. She was hurt that her long time pack left her for an omega that was not there’s which they didn’t know at the time, they spend most of the book trying to get her to forgive them and juggling the 2 omegas that they have in there pack.

The end of the Raines Era. I'm heartbroken it’s over. Bailey has been an enigma ever since he showed up. When he's popped up in previous books, you didn’t know if he was there to stir the pot or lend a helping hand. He always had comments that made you chuckle. His book did not disappoint. The secrets this man has been hiding!!! And let's not forget Selene. This chick is flipping amazing. She might be an Omega, but her attitude is allllllll Alpha and rightly so. I’m in love with her! Tea ended this series with an absolute winner. I wasn't sure how anything could follow up Kelly's story, but she did it and it was brilliant. This entire series will be on the reread shelf.

I am heartbroken that this series is over, I have absolutely loved every book.

Selene is such an amazing kicka$$ FMC, she may be an Omega but she’s all Alpha in the way she looks after everybody in the neighbourhood and stands up to Benson. After sneak peeks of Bailey in previous books it was great to finally read his story and see them all get their HEA.

A great second chance story and I absolutely loved how she didn’t forgive the pack straight away.

As always Tea’s writing is phenomenal, I felt every emotion and the epilogues with previous characters were an awesome bonus.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I’m really sad to see the end of the Raines series, but this book had an epic conclusion that nearly surpassed Lia’s story.

Selene is such a fantastic, strong, and resilient character. For a good portion of the book, I wasn’t overly impressed with Pack Dread; I spent about half the time yelling at Selene to take more decisive action against them and muttering that Pack Dread made their choice and should live with the consequences.

My heart did break when it was revealed why they stayed away for so long.

Honestly, any fan of the omegaverse will love this book, and the extra twist with Bailey Raines was the icing on the cake.

miss for me

I usually love Tea Ravine’s books, there are only a couple that are just a miss for me and this was one of them. I have more emotional awareness in my pinky toe than all of these alpha’s have combined. I hated them through out the beginning and I just never really warmed up to them. By the time they gave their excuse for everything they were irredeemable to me. I had hoped Bailey would be the saving grace of the pack but he turned out to be the worst, I get that they all had stuff going on but they just kept hurting her over and over and it was just so emotionally devastating. Next time I will just DNF and move on to her next book.

beautiful ending

Wow what an amazing ending to the series. By far my favorite FMC of the books. The journey as tough but they get their HEA. I do wanna point out how awful her sister is. And I wanna tell everyone who happens to read this review that even if you share DNA with someone, that doesn’t meant you owe them every drop of yourself. If they treat you bad, betray you, hurt you, you don’t owe them forgiveness just because you share DNA. Very toxic way of thinking and this book should be a lesson for that. The FMC almost lost everything because of it. I’m glad the sister never comes back. I wish Octavia had gotten her karma too.

Tea, how write and create a full series that turns out amazing. I have no idea.
I was in for a ride with Cost of Courting.
Baby Raines, our lovely Bailey get his happy ever after. Along with the rest of Pack Dread. But oh! Did they all fight for it
It's a bittersweet sweet moment that our lovely series is on our last book. But dang, what a journey it's been. Starting with the Scent of Home. It's a whole world that takes you and drags you along deeply.
I'm so thankful to have been along for the ride!

I don't think I can truely convey how amazing this book is!

If you want a book with all the feelings this one is definitely for you. Selene is a true badass FMC and makes our MMCs fight to get her attention. I really enjoyed Bailey's character and seeing his growth in this phenomenally written. Pack Dread are devestating! Some side characters will steal your heart as much as our main characters and some will have you just screaming at the chapters.

If you want to go on quite the adventure, then jump on in!

This was a great conclusion to an amazing series! I’m going to miss the Raines family so much. Bailey might have taken the trophy as my favorite. I knew I was going to like him from the moment he stepped on the scene and he didn’t disappoint. I love him down! 🫶🏾🫶🏾 This was a journey to forgiveness and it was a bumpy road but they eventually made it. Highly recommend this series and honestly anything that Tea writes is a masterpiece!

Sigh.... I read this book with so much pleasure, but now that I've read it I'm also sad.

This is the last book in the Raines verse.
But like all the other books, this book is so incredibly well written.
The story of Bailey with an omega who has so much power.
Selene is really a topper.
The book was exciting, dark and traumatic, but so full of power, love and hope and with an ending that is fantastic.

Cost of Courting by Tea Ravine is the finale in the When It Raines omegaverse Series. I have loved every single book in this series and I am sad that this is over. Selene is the most fierce, tough FMC I have read in a while. I loved her. The guys are good for her and accept her, but I was mad at them at the start. But they redeem themselves. Grab some tissues for the end - I cried my eyes out. Loved it!

A great end to a shaky series.

I have a love/hate relationship with this series. I honestly read this book in hopes that it got better as I wasn't a fan of the last 2 books. It was. I'm glad I made the time of it. The story flowed really well. The characters, well, stayed in character, and it was hopping with action. I do recommend this book, and as a necessary evil, the series.

Can't believe this is the last book. I got so attached to the Raines family. Loved Baileys story and glad he finally found where he belongs. Selene was such a strong fmc. Love that she is an omega who acts like an alpha and protects her neighbourhood. I love that she didn't forgive Edric, Mael and Kingston easily too and held on to her anger and made them work for her forgiveness. Also love Bailey being a switch like his sister Lia 💙
