The Genesis. The great mystery of how a planet full of water and molten rock spawned life. The answer might be more terrifying than we thought ...
In Hong Kong a young scientist stumbles upon a strange new species of rat—one that defies the rules of evolution. It's not a product of chance, but something far more sinister.
Thousands of miles away in Denmark, a mysterious organism spreads like a fungus, infiltrating ecosystems and baffling researchers. As a team of scientists races to contain it, they uncover patterns that shouldn't exist in nature. Soon, people begin to die.
As the international investigations converge, a chilling truth begins to surface —the entity they're dealing with may be the very force that once sparked life on Earth … now returning to end it.
Join a cast of scientists in a global hunt for a terrible truth in the new SciFi adventure from the author of ICE, POLARIS and the acclaimed THE ANCIENT SECRETS series.
A freezing corner of Greenland and a greedy Genetics company are the birthing place of the potential end of all species on Earth, except, the newly evolved horror that came from the Source.
Neogenesis by T. S. Falk opens the story going 75 miles an hour on the anxiety road and just keeps getting faster and faster. Each plot element added by the author makes things creepier. Beware the high Ick factor of the book.
That being said, the story is terrific. Most of the action takes place in China, adding political, social, and human details not often discussed. Each of the main characters has a Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde aspect to them, leaving the reader unsure who is speaking at any given time.
How the main problem is resolved, and what choices each character makes would make Neogenesis an excellent selection for your book club. I'll let you decide if the ending is a moral one or an inevitable one. Happy Reading.
Neogenesis is a very complex tale with layers of science, international and mega-corporation intrigue, and violence, with good character development for the two main protagonists. The science focuses mainly on genetics and evolutionary biology. Most of the story runs as two separate plot lines, one for each of the two main characters, which eventually converge for a tense and dynamic finale.
After the somewhat confusing first chapter, Neogenesis really takes off as both a mystery and an intriguing, sci-fi story. There are two scientists, one in Greenland and one in China, who have either discovered (or are seeking to understand) an anomaly with both the animal and plant-world. As the story progresses the mystery of these two locations deepens as the fast-growing threat posed by this discovery poses a world-wide danger to the planet’s inhabitants. This ominous threat really adds to the mystery.
The story bounces back and forth between the two scientists / doctors as they are threatened and attacked by both friend, foe, and “creature.” While it seems as though they (and their immediate trusted co-workers) are intensely focused on understanding and stopping the apparent global threat with little collateral damage, the same can’t be said about their associated governmental upper hierarchy.
It comes down to: How does a mutant rat problem in China connect to a fast-spreading, black-fungal problem in Greenland? Neogenesis will explain.
I just finished reading this book from T.S. Falk and just like the rest of his one offs it ties back to the Ancient Code series and leaves you wanting more!
I really enjoyed that unlike his other books, this book started fast with action right away and then weaved us through two parallel stories that converged at the end of the book with a twist that You were not expecting!
Highly recommend to those who find science fiction and specifically the science behind the origins of the human race and earth interesting. This book is true to T.S. Falk's style and explores where the human race came from and what will happen when humans try to control evolution.
But the last 11% are really terrible. The main characters start to make really stupid decisions and nothing makes sense. It almost felt like the author had to wrap up the story and just wanted to squeeze in a few more twists. It's quite laughable how bad the arguments are and how they keep taking the most absurd decision because "hey, it's heroic!"
I won't get into specific not to spoil the boos. Plus there are too many absurdities to list them all anyway.
Wow! What a story. From the very beginning to the end I couldn’t put it down. The story was so intense and each page brought you to another level of suspense. The characters were deep and believable and felt so realistic that I had to tell myself that this was a story. In a parallel world this situation could possibly be true. I loved every bit of this story and it took me by surprise how great it was. I’d give this 6 out of 5 stars. It’s going to be hard to find my next read compared to this. Everyone needs to read this. I loved it!
In this gripping narrative, the author masterfully weaves a tale that captivates readers from the first page. The intricate plot explores the dark underbelly of governmental corruption, revealing the extraordinary measures taken to conceal sinister secrets. Richly developed characters draw readers into their world, creating an immersive experience that balances heart-pounding adventure with spine-chilling suspense. A must-read for those who crave thought-provoking storytelling that challenges perceptions and keeps readers on the edge of their seats.
More thriller than Sci Fi but an awesome read. Quirky but interesting characters. From an American scientist studying a rapidly spreading fungus in Greenland to a Chinese scientist trying to figure out why all the rats have disappeared in Hong Kong. It is non stop and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Loved it.
The bringing change between two different countries and cultures is awesome. Sometimes it's difficult to find oneself in one after being in the other, and change places and people, but this makes more active the reading and the mind. It's worth from first chapter to last.
But I get so sick of books that take so long to finally end!!! oh well, at least this one had an obviously slightly crazy main character who had his dead wife in his head... But finally it ended... Someone once wrote "a good book is one that you can't wait for it to end, and when it does, you don't want it to"... I was only happy when this one finally ended.
Another great addition by TS Falk, like his other works it gets right into the story, no wasted words here. Looking forward to potential additional entries in this series.
This book held my attention from the very beginning. I didn't know where it was headed at first, but I held on and truly enjoyed another exciting ride. Thank you again, T.S. for your fantastic literary craftsmanship.
Very entertaining! I enjoyed the characters gaining strength and confidence at every turn! And you left a dangling participle to keep my attention! Good work! I wish I was so talented!
I enjoyed reading a stand alone book. So satisfying! The suspense built to a point that I actually got nervous. This has enough science in it to keep you learning and yet....horrifying!
I was getting into a rut of starting a book, absolutely loving the first half, and then hating the second. So, I was very relieved when I loved an entire book again. I am happy I tasted this author's writing because it was delicious.
Well written, fun adventure of sci-fi and conspiracies. I really enjoyed the parallel plot lines and couldn’t wait until they converged. Major major shocking plot twist at the end!
It took a little while to get rolling but it was a great tale, and sobering even… really enjoyed the science. An engaging story is a great way to learn
