I read this for my A Level German class; it was educational and I learned a lot about what Germany was like at the time of the Berlin Wall and after it fell. However it was not well written and the characters were one dimensional; the main character Sabine, was particularly annoying. I really had to drag myself through it, with only the thought that I had to finish it to pass my A Level!

It is difficult to give this book a mark - it is very informative and will no doubt help youngsters to understand the complexities of the Wende as seen from an East German perspective. And that was the reason Ms. König wrote it. It presents a very different picture from Das Leben der Anderen and is in my view useful in that respect. However, it is not what I would consider to be literature. Perhaps that does not matter.

Ich kann nicht leugnen, dass dieses Buch über das Leben junger Deutscher zu dieser Zeit informativ ist. Aufgrund der unsympathischen und langweiligen Charaktere konnte ich das Buch jedoch kaum lesen. Wegen des Buchtitels gehe ich davon aus, dass das Fehlen einer Handlung beabsichtigt war.

Damals wollte ich es immer lesen, aber jetzt kann ich sagen, zum Glück habe ich es nie geschenkt bekommen oder ausgesucht. War eher ein Flop.

informative from a historical POV but the characters were banal and zombie-like
