♥ Set in the highlands of Scotland in a small town with fun, romance, drama, and a guaranteed happy ending, Fight or Flirt on the Scenic Route has a bit of steam and lots of heart.
Margaret is a Scottish author and chocolate lover who has been writing stories for over twenty years (possibly more if you count her primary school efforts). Her early works will never see the light of day and are locked in dusty vaults on some old floppy disks. But after all those years of practise, Margaret released her first novel A Winter Haven in 2021. This is the first of a ten-book series set on the gorgeous Scottish Isle of Mull. The stories are unashamedly romantic but with lots of drama and an eclectic mix of characters. Each book can be read as a standalone but followers of the series will enjoy catching up with previous characters. A new spin-off series based in the Scottish Highlands is coming out in 2023. Look out for the Glenbriar Series throughout the year.
I loved reading this by the poolside. There was somewhere to cool off when it got a bit steamy, lol! Elise Reid is the FMC. She is loving her life in Glasgow, but her company requires her to make a possibly temporary move back home to Glenbriar, where there are many poor memories and soured relationships with exes and friends. Gabe Wilder, the MMC and a semi-famous environmental podcaster, is the best friend of one of Elise's exes. And he's not her biggest fan. Upon Elise's return home, she must serve as the tour guide for a group of people, including her ex, his wife, his sister, and her boyfriend, as well as Gabe, whom she knows dislikes her. You can feel the build-up of tension and chemistry between two people who know they shouldn't feel anything for one another, yet can't help their physical yearnings, which brings them to an agreement to quench their thirst for one another with a little holiday fling. But oh, my goodness, the chemistry between the two of them leaves us all wondering if they would ever manage to stop at a couple of bunk-ups! There is a side story involving Scarlett, Elise's ex's sister, and a troublesome boyfriend who causes her significant pain, adding more drama to the book. I sped through this in one day and thoroughly enjoyed it!
It feels like an age since I last visited Glenbriar. It's one of those places I always look forward to returning to. I've made many friends there and I love their community spirit.
I met Elise a few books back. She's one of those characters who you remember for all the wrong reasons. Fight or Flirt is her story.
Enemies to lovers is the name of the game when she meets Gabe, best friend of her ex. It's one of my favourite book tropes.
A great inclusion to the series and a thoroughly enjoyable romance read.
After mistakenly thinking that this series was coming to an end, I was delighted to discover that there are even more in the pipeline after this one. This time, we got to re-meet and get to know Elise, who, up until now, has been an irritation more than anything, compromising the happiness of several key characters.
She is now living and working in Glasgow for an events and travel company. Thankfully, she has put Glenbriar firmly in her rear-view mirror and is determined to keep things that way. However, with no-shows from a couple of members of the new team that had been hired for the Glenbriar branch, she is faced with having to pick up on the task of guiding a coach tour into the Highlands of Scotland. On the tour are her ex-fiancé and his new wife, his sister, and his best friend, Gabe, who has never had a kind word for her.
Faced with an overwhelming situation, Elise presses ahead, and very soon the cracks begin to show, until the proverbial wheels fall off. The only comfort for Elise is that Gabe seems less inclined to find fault with her than usual. Frequently mercurial in her ways, Elise was increasingly calm and focused on the tour. This was the first clue to a more mature Elise and suggested an opportunity for some personal growth.
Given Margaret’s writing style, we were soon granted access to Gabe’s inner thoughts and discovered a reason for his hostility, which ran deeper than a protective best friend. Of course, there was no way that Elise and Gabe could ever be attracted to one another, was there? Once again, Margaret has made good on her promises and delivered another captivating book that shows the depths of human emotion and the ability to flex and forgive. I’m so pleased that this series will continue, for now. It was just the tonic I needed.
Oh Margaret Amatt has done it again with another fantastic book in the Glenbriar series. We’ve met Elise and Gabe in previous books and there has been animosity between them for as long as anyone can remember. When Elise finds herself having to take on the role of tour guide for a coach trip she didn’t count on her ex Aiden ,his wife, best friend Gabe and sister Scarlett being among the passengers. With drama from the start and plenty of tension between Elise and the others this will definitely be a coach trip to remember with Elise having to dig deep professionally. However Gabe starts to see her more vulnerable side and soon they’re getting on much better……. I love how Margaret’s stories flow, how everyone is connected is easy to understand if you haven’t read the previous books, and how the dynamics between the characters is described. Family, friendships, loyalty and allowing yourself to accept and move on is covered, along with so much more. One of my favourite series by one of my favourite authors I highly recommend reading this ( and the rest of the Glenbriar books!) Looking forward to the next one!

My Opinion
Fight or Flirt is the fourteenth book in the Glenbriar series but each book can be read as a standalone. This was a quick and easy read. With a lovely writing style Margaret Amatt has really made this a series I love reading. A great addition to the series.
I have just whizzed through Margaret Amatt’s up and coming release, ‘Fight or Flirt on the Scenic Route.’ Its wonderful, light and engaging, she’s definitely incredibly talented and in my opinion is the BOSS of romance series. The characters and the way their emotional intelligence comes across is quite something. In this offering we join a bus tour to the Isle of Sky, we get to follow Elise and Gabe’s perspectives and how their spark evolves over the journey. Elise ends up leading a bus tour that she’d rather not, after all her ex Aidan and his wife Lilah, his sister Scarlett and her boyfriend Leon are on the tour as well as Gabe who has never liked her. The past joins the present and the tour sets off to an awkward start, will all passengers remain on the coach? One of them is a walking red flag and rather unpleasant. Not one to skimp on scenery, she’s definitely made me want to visit the Isle of Skye and the Fairy Pools. So many familiar and unexpected faces that turn up and I have to admit I would love to live at Gabe’s mums house. It sounds so exotic. Will the sizzling heat thaw the ice between the will they won’t they golden pair without anyone noticing? Step into the book and enjoy being swept away. Margaret deserves her Glenbriar Series to be made into Halmark or Disney type movies. Can’t wait for the next release and this isn’t even out yet.
This is Book 14 in The Glenbriar Series and in this book we see the story of Elise and Gabe.
I absolutely adore this series and Margaret is ALWAYS an automatic read whenever I see a new book in the series!
While it can be read as a standalone, there is a whole other 13 books worth of characters... and some pop up 😉.
The story follows Elise who escaped Glenbriar after a disastrous romance or two, who is forced to return for work and also Gabe - an old face from Elise's past and a travel blogger.
We join the pair on a bus tour week - Elise as a tour guide and Gabe as a client on the bus!
The chemistry between the two is electric and I loved this - definite 'will they, won't they' tension!
I absolutely loved Elise ❤️ but she has had such bad experiences, I really felt for how confused she felt in her past.
Gabe took a little longer to warm up to because of his reaction to Elise but I eventually ended up liking him!
Margaret's writing style is always brilliant, flows easily, intriguing relationships and heart-warming moments.
I only started reading this series from Book 12 but I am hooked on this series! I will be starting on the books I have yet to read in ghe series shortly but if they are anything like this book, I will adore it too!
This is a series which shows no signs of flagging and in this next story, we are taken on a scenic bus ride away from the town into the Highlands. This next in the series focuses on Elise who we have met in previous stories and may not have formed the best opinion of her at times. Now, youget to see inside her thoughts and to +understand how she feels about how she has acted in the past. Pne or two on the bus tour which she is guiding have certainly met her before and are far from pleased to find that she is back in their lives.
Gabe is hoping for a break from his blogging life and a chance to work out what he wants for his future. He is feeling jaded and ready for a change. Horror struck to meet up with Elise, you nevertheless see the chemistry between them and a friendship developing. There are some lively characters on the tour alongside them who give the story some humour at times.
You can't help but empathise with Elise as she finds herself working back near Glenbriar. She is torn between wanting to escape from people she knows and missing the friendships she has left behind. With the gorgeous Scottish scenery as a backdrop and some interesting subplots, this is an enjoyable read and good edition to the series.
In short: facing up to some home truths. Thanks to the publisher
This is the 14th book in the series and can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read all the books but the ones I’ve read and this one have been interesting and captivating.
This is the story of Elise, a tour guide, and her ex-boyfriend’s best friend, Gabe, who disliked her for breaking his friend’s heart. Elise has a complicated past and is now stuck on a weeklong coach trip with her ex, his wife and Gabe.
I loved the setting of this book- a coach tour around the Scottish Highlands. The book did justice to these picturesque scenes and paved the way for this to be an escapist summer romance.
This has drama and tension, given the nature of the ‘situation’ between Gabe and Elise. Their enemies to lovers , forced proximity and ‘forbidden’ romance was one for the books. The author captured their emotions, spark, and tension accurately. The chemistry was hot, way hotter than the previous books in the series.
I love how this celebrates Scottish culture, friendship, small town, forgiveness and love. The author’s storytelling is inspiring and shows the dynamics of human relationships/interactions.
If you love small town drama and are looking for a new author to inspire your reading then I recommend this.
I received an advanced copy and the review is mine and voluntary.
If you're a fan of Margaret Amatt's Glenbriar books then you will already know Elise Reid very well!
Her character has been built up over several books and I couldn't WAIT for her to have her own story!
And what a corker it is! You can't get a more pressured situation than leading a tour for your ex-fiancé, his new wife, his pissy little sister who's also brought along her horrendous boyfriend, and also his best friend (Gabe). Who hates you.
And if that isn't stressful enough, what happens when you and Gabe realise that the line between love and hate is far thinner than you would like?
Fight or Flirt on the Scenic Route is giving enemies-to-lovers, forbidden love, and 'what happens on tour, stays on tour' vibes. It's a page-turning romp with plenty of drama, a nice amount of sizzle, and a fabulously happy ending.
You don't need to have read any of the previous books in the series to enjoy this one, but I recommend you do because it will make Elise's story even more satisfying, and they're all such amazing reads!
I thought Elise deserved her story to be told because there were so many mentions of her in previous books. What a rollercoaster of a read we were treated to on the scenic route to Skye. We had thrills, drama, banter and a will they won’t they get it together romance. Buckle up for an exciting, engaging and entertaining story.
Fight or Flirt on the Scenic Route is the 14th book in the Glenbriar series. All of the books are standalones but familiar characters reappear in subsequent books. The main characters in this book, Gabe and Elise were both minor characters in previous books. Although there is no detriment to reading this book as a standalone, the entire series is gorgeous and I cannot recommend it highly enough!
This storyline was a true enemies to lovers story because Elise was the ex-girlfriend of Gabe’s best friend Aidan and Gabe was a protective friend. However, Gabe and Elise have such intense chemistry they cannot stop thinking about one another and also cannot stay away from each other. Their romance was steamy but also incredibly romantic. The forbidden element, with them both believing that they could never be officially together because of Aidan felt unfair but also completely understandable.
I adored the coach trip to Skye, even though for me personally it would probably be my worst nightmare as I’m an introvert. There was certainly an interesting combination of people on the coach trip! Skye sounded so beautiful in the descriptions and I found myself wishing I could visit Skye and the fairy pools.
Glenbriar and its’ residents have almost become a reality for me. I feel like I am part of the fictional town because the people have become so familiar to me.
Fight or Flirt on the Scenic Route is a captivating enemies to lovers story on a coach tour to the Isle of Skye with plenty of snatched moments in a massive need for secrecy.
