The Worker: From Russia to America

Rate this book
Oppressed by the ruling classes. Yearning to spark hope. Can she find a path to joy before she's crushed by the turmoil of revolt?

Siberia, 1912. Avia Reznikova has witnessed too much tragedy. Traumatized by memories of the Tzar's soldiers gunning down her father and hundreds of overworked miners when she was a teenager, the young woman fights to improve living conditions for the poor. But when the draft for WWI creates a labor shortage, her burning desire to better Russian society is undermined by her exhausting workload.

Lonely and war-weary, Avia grudgingly abandons her employment to start a cartage business with help from an American investor. And after she discovers she is pregnant, the isolated mother battles to hold to the original spirit of the revolution as the Bolsheviks claim sovereignty with a bloody coup.

Can she navigate this dangerous power struggle without sacrificing her ideals?

In this carefully crafted look at Russia during the final days of the Tzarist regime, Richard Alan Schwartz paints an alternately grim and hopeful picture of one woman's efforts to survive. Written with meticulously researched detail, this muti-layered account sweeps readers away to witness the turbulent reinvention of a nation and its people.

The From Russia to America, is the immersive seventh book in the American Journeys women's historical fiction series. If you like engaging characters, well-paced action and stories worth re-reading, then you will love Richard Alan Schwartz's evocative saga.

I have enjoyed learning about the Russian Jewish people lives and trials and their migration to other lands. The facts and fiction blended together is an enjoyable reading experience. My hope is there will be a book 8.
