A doomed prince with a monstrous curse. A sadistic king with a dark history. And the witch who will be his reckoning. Shivani, a talented witch, has so far avoided the annual Summoning. In her village, women are sent to the King each year and given six months to win the Prince’s heart and break his beastly curse. Anyone who can do so will be named Queen.
No one has succeeded.
Deep in debt and with the promise of a handsome reward, Shivani’s father volunteers her for the Summoning. Shivani is drugged to dull her witchcraft and taken to the castle against her will.
With no magic and no allies, Shivani attempts a desperate escape through her only window. When she falls, Prince Theo sees her in time to catch her. An unlikely friendship forms as Shivani and Theo realise they are as trapped as each other – Theo cursed to uncontrollably transform into a beast and Shivani with a six-month countdown to an execution.
When Shivani finds a long-forgotten tunnel deep in the castle, she could leave the horrors of the Summoning and the cruel King behind. But it wouldn’t save the Prince and it wouldn’t free the imprisoned servants. Or Shivani could stay – if she’s shrewd enough to decipher the curse before the executioner’s axe drops.
'The wind at your back and fire in your chest' ❤️🔥✨️
I'm so incredibly thankful I was sent this arc!🥰
This book was absolutely amazing!
Shivani was an absolute badass fmc and totally stole the show, strong, smart and fierce I absolutely loved her character. Take no shit attitude while always willing to stand up for others and for what's right.
The story is subtly based off beauty and the beast with a little touch of spice without taking away from the plot, this entire story felt incredibly immersive. As soon as i started this today at 4pm I KNEW I was obsessed. Couldn't put this down!
The whole story was so magical and captivating, such a beautiful yet emotional read, I'm desperately hoping for a second book because I NEED to dive right back into this world again!! A beautifully written romantasy and I cant wait to read more from this author!! ❤️🔥🫶
This book is different to anything I’ve read before which was so refreshing. It really gives beauty and the beast vibes and is also a standalone I believe, which in itself is unique for a fantasy book.
The dynamic between the MMC and the FMC is also rare, in the sense that the FMC takes on the more domineering, stronger role.
Storm has really written a beautifully unique story, but for me I just wanted more plot twists and turns.
If you were a fan of fairy tales growing up your sure to love this book. It's got touches to beauty and the beast, but with more magic, and a more adult feel. the story line reels you in and keeps the pages turning, I finished within two evenings and am bummed I finished. Does have a small bit of spice to one scene closer to the end of the book, but nothing too drawn out if that isn't your thing.

4.5🌟 This was one of my favorite Beauty and the Beast retelling I've read so far. I was captivated from the first chapter and fell in love with the characters. I loved how the MMC was tough but still sensitive.
If you like fairytale retellings, slow burn, forced proximity with fantasy, this would be the perfect next read for you.

I couldn’t put the book down. A few chapters in and there so many questions that I needed answers too. The characters are likable and you feel invested. I rarely make notes in my books but had to with this one “ Only a man bankrupt of empathy would confuse basic compassion for friendship”.

Okay, so little story time. I actually met this lovely author selling in the indie tables at Cymera earlier this year - the cover and storyline automatically got my attention but she had unfortunately completely sold out of copies at the time! Still, I was intrigued and wanted to get around to checking the story out one day. Fast forward a few months and crazily enough, I am gifted the arc for this book and can finally read it! (Don't worry, I got halfway through and already had pre-ordered my own physical copy). And I'm happy to say this book really did live up to it's magical fairytale premise.
In Wrath of the Never Queen we follow young witch, Shivani, who wants nothing more than to get away from her crappy life and study magic. Sadly, fate has other things in store for her and she ends up being kidnapped to the royal castle to become a 'never queen' - just one of a long line of poor girls who are tasked with trying to break the curse on the prince. Each girl has six months to do so... and then they are beheaded. So understandably, Shivani is pretty pissed at being caught in this predicament and fights to find her freedom, whilst also starting to realise that she is not the only person trapped in the castle.
The latter half of this book is where it really took off for me, with some great plot twists and reveals and a charming love story which actually did win me over by the halfway point. I spent a lot of the book wishing that Shivani's wrath would really take the forefront, but happy to say we did finally get that glorious female rage by the end of the book, as well as a genuinely sweet and heart-warming story about found family, personal strength and acceptance. This was such a cosy fantasy read and definitely gave me those fairytale Beauty and the Beast vibes at times, whilst still managing to stand on its own. A few elements I would have loved to have seen developed a little more such as with the characters of the King and Vanya, but there's a lot to like here. The appendix also offers a little extra magic, whether exploring a future story that Storm may write or giving us a little more info on another character.
I'll definitely be looking forward to what Storm Lomax comes out next and if you want a cosy fantasy with a strong female protagonist and her cinnamon roll love interest then I definitely recommend this book. (also it gets a bonus for the unexpected bisexual rep! <3 )
Wrath of the Never Queen by Storm Lomax took me on an emotional rollercoaster, and I adored every moment! Shivani was such a fierce, clever character—I absolutely loved the way she thought through every situation and somehow kept her spirit strong, despite everything stacked against her. 🌹 It was a bit surprising that they didn’t focus on the curse at the beginning, but looking back, I understand why. We needed time to dive into the characters and their relationship, which made the story feel even more powerful. 🖤
In this dark, intense fantasy world, Shivani is a talented witch who’s managed to avoid the King’s dreaded annual Summoning, where young women are sent to the castle and given six months to win the Prince’s heart—and break his curse. Every year, someone tries, but no one has ever succeeded. When her father volunteers her for the Summoning, she’s drugged and dragged to the castle, powerless and alone. Her first thought is to escape, and she even tries to flee through her window—until she falls, right into the arms of Prince Theo. 🏰
Theo was such an adorable yet tragic character. Seeing him interact with Shivani melted my heart, and their slow-burn romance was everything. His curse forced him to transform into a beast, making him as much a prisoner as Shivani, and their connection grew from this deep understanding of each other’s pain and entrapment. Watching them fall in love was sweet, intense, and heartbreaking as they both realized the danger they were facing. 💔✨

The danger of the King’s sadistic games loomed over everything, adding this underlying tension that kept me on edge. Shivani’s discovery of a secret tunnel was her chance to escape, but it also meant leaving Theo, the servants, and her chance at breaking the curse behind. Her choice to stay—to face down dark magic and the looming executioner’s axe—showed just how brave she was. By the end, I was emotionally wrecked, so invested in their journey and every choice Shivani made. 🌙
Thank you, Storm Lomax, for the ARC! This dark and twisted fairytale will definitely stay with me.
I went into this excited for a badass FMC, and it delivered.💪 The ominous weight of oppression and danger with the dark, immersive description of the harsh landscape had me primed for adventure. And getting behind Shivani was easy. The girl is a fighter. She is intelligent, magical, resourceful, and full of heart.
Shivani and Theo’s story has some definite Beauty and the Beast vibes, but it’s far more complex and imaginative. I was captivated from start to finish. The writing flows seamlessly, the pacing is steady, the build up of emotions feels natural, and the revelations towards unraveling the curse come through at just the right moments to keep things interesting and build suspense. In short, loved it! Thank you @stormlomax.author and @tracky.pr for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
The FMC was a standout for me — strong, smart, and fierce, with a genuine willingness to stand up for others. The supporting characters were equally loveable, each with their own charm, and it was easy to become attached to the characters.
The story carries subtle Beauty and the Beast vibes with a touch of spice, which added a fun dynamic without taking away from the plot. The world-building felt rich and immersive, and by around the 100-page mark I realized I was completely hooked. The pacing kept me gripped and eager to see what would happen next.
Overall, this was a captivating read with memorable characters and a world I enjoyed falling into. Definitely one to keep on your radar if you love strong heroines, atmospheric fantasy, and a story that keeps you invested from start to finish
What a fun retelling of The Beauty and the Beast!!
I really enjoyed the enemies to allies to friends to lovers storyline that this book had! I also loved that Shivani was such a strong, independent MC and Theo was sensitive and ready for love. It was a unique twist on the norm for the beauty and the beast story.
“If running means survival, then you fucking run.”

Shivani harbours a lot of anger inside her, but despite this she is an incredibly caring person. Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed seeing her express her frustrations and annoyances, getting to see her soften to those around her was so wonderful. She easily captures the hearts of those around her, offering a helping hand whenever she can. What I really appreciated was that she didn’t lose her edge at any point. It is all too easy for female leads to soften and remain soft despite the hard exteriors they start with. Shivani would not be herself if she didn’t have those sharp edges. Theo is such a sweetheart that my heart hurt so much for him. Cursed from birth, he has no control over himself or his future and you can so clearly see the desperation he has for his curse to be broken. But the most amazing thing about him is the fact he doesn’t want that at the expense of others - namely the Never Queens. His aloofness in the beginning was totally understandable and getting to see past that and witnessing the care and affection he has for others was wonderful - especially considering who his father is.
When Lomax approached me about reviewing this book, I just knew it would be one I’d enjoy. Reading the blurb had me eager and I found myself hooked from the very first page! This plot is absolutely brilliant. The rich world-building and unique magic system held my attention and the flow of the story upheld my excitement. I felt I could scarcely put this down because I was so engrossed in what was going on! To the point that if I didn’t have to work, it would have been done in one delightful sitting! I would perhaps say that a little more could have been done in mentioning the magic across the entire book. In the beginning it is mentioned a lot. However, there are many parts of the book where it isn’t mentioned or eluded to - despite it being a big part of out FMCs personality and being. I think just a little more of this sprinkled throughout would have been perfect. The characters are fabulous, well fleshed out and intriguing - which is perfect because you always want to get to know the people the MCs spend their time with! Lomax certainly has a talent with craft characters you would love to get to know in real life as well. So many of them I wanted to be friends with! The romance was delightful - an enemies to friends to lovers moment that was oh so sweet, filled with mournful longing, and tension, and tenderness. We did get a little bit of spice and whilst it was very much on the tame side of things, it was so raw on the emotions that I adored every moment. The ending was rather abrupt - perhaps too much so! It was nice getting a nice bow to tie everything up but I felt like I was missing so many details. I feel rather bereft now it’s done!
Overall, Wrath of the Never Queen is a stunning magical story that everyone needs to devour!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Thank you again to Storm Lomax for an advanced copy of this book.
The way this book had me in a chokehold…wow! If you’ve ever wanted to read a Beauty and the Beast retelling with way more magic/fantasy elements and an FMC with a well-developed sense of rage, this is absolutely the book for you. (And even if you’ve never thought that would be the kind of book you needed, trust me, you do.)
We are immediately thrown into a unique world fabulously built with wonderful detail and populated with many fantasy/supernatural beings, such as witches, dragons, and werewolves. It is immediately apparent that all is not as it seems, and everything else in the story builds to answering the questions lingering after the prologue.
The FMC, Shivani, is fully fleshed and so absolutely real. I could understand, pity, and root for her right from the beginning. When we meet her, she is a woman living a life familiar to many of us who have lived in a man’s world, and is filled with feminine rage and a deeply rooted sense of justice. She is a fighter but also has a kind heart, making her definitely rank in my top ten favourite FMCs of all time (maybe even top five but I’m bad at making choices).
The villain is a perfect depiction of a politician, constantly leading us to wonder what his motivations are as the tension builds steadily. I was absolutely held hostage by this book as I desperately kept reading to find the answers previously only hinted at. Personally, I think the best romantasy is one that not only leaves you breathlessly begging to see what will happen between the romantic leads but also on the edge of your seat while unravelling a mystery or two. This book knocks all of that out of the park and then some.
Lomax has an absolutely beautiful way with words, constantly filling my soul to the brim with sumptuous prose. Shivani’s grief-fuelled wrath is palpable and moving; in fact, her rage made me want to stress-eat, in the absolute best way possible. Theo, the MMC, initially presents as a walking green flag cinnamon roll and everything you would want from a romantic lead, but soon reveals hidden depths as his character develops and he heals from his own traumas.
At first glance, this is absolutely a Beauty and the Beast retelling, but it’s also so much more. The book deals with powerful themes, like what makes a monster, while also building a beautiful story about love - and not just romantic love - conquering all. The story is simultaneously heartbreaking and hopeful, while giving some of the best scenes of emotional intimacy and respect I’ve ever seen. Seriously, there’s only one explicitly spicy scene towards the end of the book, but even the earlier spice-free romantic scenes are hot as hell.
Honestly, I can’t express enough just how satisfying this book was. It ticked all of my boxes for addicting romance, spellbinding fantasy, and captivating mystery. My only regret is that I can’t read this book again for the first time, but at least I’ll always have rereads.
Tropes: Beauty and the Beast retelling Feminine rage Forced proximity Tending an injury Allies to lovers BAMF FMC x Green Flag MMC Magical curses Bathing together Bisexual rep Female friendships Slow burn romance Dragons and witches
As in the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast, the prince introduces Shivani—an avid reader like Belle– to his immense library. But in a unique twist of the familiar plot, the two main characters scour ancient manuscripts written in “witchtongue” and dragon language, searching for the elusive spell that will break the curse. With intriguing secondary characters and enthralling elements of fantasy, Wrath of the Never Queen is enjoyable and engaging.
I loved the paranormal aspect of this unique version of the beloved fairy tale: the telltale purple light and salty scent of witch magic, the discovery of ancient dragon lore and mystical enchantments, and the thrilling tension of ever-present danger as the story unfolds.
The main characters are compelling and likeable. With her noble, courageous heart, Shivani chooses to remain rather than flee when she finds a hidden passage leading out of the castle. Although she could escape and save her own life, she refuses to abandon the prince and the castle servants who have become her loyal friends. Prince Theo, despite his fearsome outward appearance as the beast, is tender, considerate, and caring. Aunt Meena, Vanya, and Inez enhance the complexity of the intriguing plot.
Despite the appealing elements of fantasy in this novel, there were many inconsistencies in the characters’ actions and language which were implausible and jarring, given the story’s antique medieval setting. Although the main characters engage in formal conversation, polite mannerisms, and eloquent forms of address reserved for royalty, Shivani uses modern obscenities which are culturally inappropriate and offensive within the context of such extremely proper etiquette. The budding romance between Shivani and the prince is depicted as innocent and chaste throughout the work, but one sexually explicit scene stands in stark contrast to the rest of the young adult novel.
With a bit more editing, this novel could really shine to its fullest. Also, rather than its abrupt conclusion with an appendix–the sapphic romance of the siren and the witch, a tale Shivani enjoyed hearing as a child—the ending would have been much more rewarding if that legend had been woven into the novel, explaining the ancient dragon culture associated with the castle and the iconic statue Shivani discovered in her quest to cure the curse.
In spite of its faults, Wrath of the Never Queen is an entertaining fantasy adaptation of the famed fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast.
I’ve read a lot of fantasy in my days. I’ve seen various representations of dragons and witches some of those striking new ideas and concepts, while others rehash the same worn tropes and concepts.
Storm’s world in this book is full of new ideas around fantasy favourite tropes. Witches who can only enchant non-living items, dragons who shapeshift after years of training and learning, werewolves and sirens too.
The rich world building is only the first part of an interesting and complex tale. Shivani and Theo are joined by a cast of supporting characters that offer true friendship, advice and help to further the storyline. They are flawed individuals, with skills in some areas and none in others. This was quite well crafted.
Shivani and Theo are fully developed and realised characters. They make mistakes, but own them and learn from them. They don’t know all the answers and don’t magically come by them just in the nick of time either. It’s all very plausible and realistic.
The romance was a slow burn. Perhaps a little too slow for my tastes, but the flirting and sweet moments were still enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the bath scene and the scenes in the garden.
There is a little sexy stuff, fairly benign and sweet which suits the overall feel of the book. It isn’t full on pornography, but it isn’t fade to black either. While the story as a whole could be suitable for teen readers, given the adult content, it may not be suitable for the young adult in your life.
My main complaint (if you can really call it that) was the speed in which the ending came about. After the slow burn and plodding pace of the book, the conclusion was quite swift and covered in only a couple of chapters. I’d have liked a little more time spent on this, if only to allow the reader a bit more time to absorb the details of the complex plot.
The writing was delightful to read, the finish of the book to a higher than most standard. It could do with one more run through at a sentence level just to pick up the remaining few typos. They’re sneaky little gremlins.
I enjoyed this story and will definitely read more by Storm in the future. Do yourselves a favour and pick this book up today!
A few things I noticed:
22% - I let Eliza and Willian (William)… 26% - The Prince knees (kneels) in front of me… 99% …both their hearts are be (delete be) heavy with longing.

Thank you to Whimsy Words PR and Storm Lomax for the Arc. All opinions are my own.
This book entirely entranced me, I mean blurry eyes at 3am telling myself just one more chapter wholly sucked in. If you're a fan of fairy tale retellings done exceptionally well, this is absolutely for you. Shivani is a badass, lovable, feisty, and heartbreakingly vulnerable FMC. She's so wonderfully complex, and it's really her that pulled me in so completely. I would love to be her book bestie, but also boy do NOT get on her bad side! Theo is so charmingly different from the MMCs we normally see in romantasy, he's 1000% good boy golden retriever energy without a morally grey bone (or spine?) in his body. I do love a morally grey MMC, don't get me wrong, but it was a really nice change of pace to have a MMC who is so unguarded with his emotions. No toxic masculinity here!
I feel like the balance of romance and fantasy in Wrath of the Never Queen is a pretty even split, which is rare for a romantasy. In terms of the fantasy world building, there is a little bit of playing into common tropes, but in this case it made me feel like I immediately understood and was immersed in the world. The idea of magic having a specific muscle that needs to be strengthened like a real muscle is such a unique one, and gives the magic system such a physical grounding. As for the romance, I love the fact it's built on a growing base of friendship and mutual trust. It's very sweet, but not sickeningly so. I completely understand why these two characters fell in love as we watch them share mutual interests and open themselves up to one another. By the end it felt like watching two people I adore find their happily ever after, and it was delicious. As a standalone we get a satisfying ending by the end as love conquers all and evil is vanquished. Plus a satisfying dusting of feminine rage. If you are looking for a fairy tale retelling, characters you can root for, and a green flag romance, this is definitely for you.
Wrath of the Never Queen by Storm Lomax ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3.5 Stars
Storm Lomax delivers a fun, reimagined Beauty and the Beast tale with a witchy twist. The story follows Shivani, a witch who is volunteered as her village’s latest Never Queen- a girl destined to try and break the prince's curse, or lose her head.
👑 Female Power: What stood out most to me in this story was the fierce female friendships woven throughout the narrative. Storm showcases a diverse cast of characters and really highlights the quiet strength of womanhood with her writing. I loved how every female character was portrayed in a positive light and each brought something unique to the story.
✨️ Word Building: The magic system was another highligh. It was fresh, imaginative, and beautifully introduced. Dragons and werewolves added extra layers of intrigue to the story, and I could see the potential for truly epic worldbuilding here. Unfortunately, the romance element of the book took center stage, and that’s where this story lost me.
🩷 Romance: The relationship between Shivani and the prince felt rushed, leaning into insta-love rather than something with true depth or tension. For me, their relationship had no spark or chemistry. As someone who prefers a slow-burn romance with real depth and development, this unfortunately fell flat.
Verdict: I found myself wishing the focus had stayed more on the lore, the witchcraft, and the wider world. Shivani’s magic was exciting and I was dying to know more, but it felt sidelined once the romance began. All the elements for a fantastic fantasy were there, but the balance wasn’t quite right for me.
That said, the friendships, the strength of the female cast, and the inventive magic system made this a worthwhile read. I’d happily pick up more of Storm Lomax’s work, especially if future stories lean more into the worldbuilding and magic that shone so brightly here.
✨ A huge thanks to Whimsy Words and Storm Lomax for gifting me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
“A doomed prince with a monstrous curse. A sadistic king with a dark history. And the witch who will be his reckoning.”
✨Magic ✨Fantasy ✨Romantasy ✨Magical Creatures ✨Beauty and the Beast vibes
Six months— Six months is all the chosen women are given to break the “curse” placed upon the prince by his mother. Shivani is a young witch who has until now avoided the annual summoning where the king chooses one woman of the village to attempt to break the curse. Rumor has it that it can only be broken by “true love”, and to their demise not a single one has succeeded. In a turn of unfortunate events, it’s now Shivani’s turn thanks to her father’s selfishness and she will not go down without a fight.
Lomax knows how to write a captivating story, the story the world building the premise were all there. The world captivated me and made it hard for me to put the story down once I started it. There were some aspects that fell flat to me despite the story being so good. Although this book is considered and advertised as a romantasy, and though there were romantic aspects to it falls more on the fantasy with a touch of romance to me. I wish the story would have had more romance filler. A dual POV of both Shivani and the prince would have made this book that much better.
If you came here looking for spice, you will not find it here. There were hints of it, but it ended up being very bland in the spice aspect, with me only counting one TRUE spicy scene throughout the book.
Overall? The book was great, I enjoy the world of fantasy and Storm Lomax definitely delivered with taking me there. If you’re looking for a world with shape shifters, witches, dragons and werewolves this book is definitely for you.
4.5 ✨️Wrath of the Never Queen by Storm Lomax This not a just a love story. It's a reckoning. Gifted witch Shivani has so far avoided the annual Summoning.
With her magic stripped, Shivani is taken to the castle and thrust into the deadly challenge against her will.
As she navigates the prince's terrifying curse and the king’s sadistic whims, she discovers decades-old secrets that could mean her freedom. But leaving wouldn’t save the prince and it wouldn’t free the imprisoned servants. Or Shivani could stay – if she’s shrewd enough to decipher the curse before the executioner’s axe drops.

Well I struggled to put this down, I was engrossed from the start. The rage and disgust I felt for Shivani’s dad was next level....well until I saw all the king was capable off 😤🤬 and the king what a spiteful pompous moron!!
Although her dad was awful she had an amazing Aunt to support her. I loved how you got to know some of the staff at the castle and their different characters Inez and Vanya especially.
The first time we met the prince had me intrigued and my that tension grew between him and Shivani!
As well as Dragons and witches there are Sirens and Werewolves. I hope we get more books from this world it was such a joy to read!! I adored the story inside the book of the witch and the siren so sweet 💓
Thank you so much for this beautiful arc it was an absolute joy to read.
I was so excited to read this book. When the author reached out I jumped at the chance to read it. The description had me captivated. As a travel agent who loves Disney, this book gave me so many feelings.
We had witches, Evildoers, dragons, and more. It was like Beauty and the Beast meeting Maleficent with some evil Queen thrown in. All in all, it had me from the first chapter. The characters had layers, the story had depth and we have good defeating evil everything you need to make a fantastic book.
Shivani & Theo's story was so captivating When they meet Shivani she is one pissed-off witch. Sold to the king to pay off her father's debt she is not happy. So when she meets Theo she thinks he is cut from the same cloth so to speak. However, as she gets to know him she soon realizes he is as much a victim or prisoner as she is.
The love story between them is slow to grow but is built on friendship and trust. The author did a brilliant job creating this world of fantasy where werewolves, dragons, and witches all live among each other. I felt so immersed in this world. I felt I could see, touch and even smell the things the author described.
I also thought the relationships that were built between the female characters were wonderful and how strong the women were in this book. I loved that the author gave them so much power and that even when things were tough they were strong. This book was so deeply rich with story, characters, and descriptions a total must-read for any fantasy lover or fairytale lover.

A cursed prince. A sadistic king. And a witch who was never meant to survive the game.
✨️Wrath of the Never Queen reads like a dark, haunting fairytale—one steeped in desperation, quiet rebellion, and a curse that refuses to loosen its grip. Shivani is a compelling heroine from the very start: stripped of her magic, betrayed by those meant to protect her, and forced into a Summoning where survival alone feels impossible.
✨️Theo’s curse is tragic and brutal, and the bond between him and Shivani develops naturally—two souls connected not just by romance, but by shared captivity and fear. The pacing is intentional, allowing tension to build as the execution deadline looms closer with every chapter.
✨️Storm Lomax’s writing is beautifully eloquent, creating a rich atmosphere where the castle feels alive with secrets and cruelty. The stakes remain high throughout, making it impossible not to root for Shivani as she’s forced to choose between freedom and fighting for those still trapped within the walls.
✨ What I loved: • Lush, immersive writing • Dark fairytale vibes with real consequences • Shivani’s quiet strength and resilience • High stakes and emotional tension
✨ What I wanted more of: I would have loved to see more of Shivani’s aunt and deeper exploration of the texts—they felt full of untapped potential.
🖤 Would you risk your freedom to save someone cursed—or would you escape while you still could?
A long time ago, the queen cursed her newborn son. Fueled by hatred, she placed an omen on him that would force him to change between human and monster forms. Out of desperation, the king vows to break the curse with true love by offering a village girl to his boy until the curse falls.
The women are given 6 months to break the curse with true love. If they fail, they die and the next female is offered. They are the queens who will never be. Shivani is offered against her will to the monstrous prince. She is determined to find a way out of her predicament, fueled purely by her rage until she discovers the truth about the queen’s curse.
WHAT I THOUGHT:
As a heavy romantasy reader, I found this story leaned more into romance than fantasy, with a strong fairytale influence woven throughout. In most romantasy, MMCs are brooding and mysterious—but here, we get a cinnamon roll MMC, which immediately intrigued me as a reader. Romantasy also tends to run long, yet at 393 pages this felt refreshingly concise—a focused tale of love and yearning.
Additionally, while I appreciate the foundation-building and the extended yearning, it stretched a little too long for my taste. That said, Storm Lomax elevates the reading experience with immersive touches: a curated playlist tied to specific chapters and an appendix that expands on a tale mentioned in the main storyline. These were thoughtful additions for the reader.
FAV QUOTES:
“I think of all the dead women… trying their best to steal the prince’s heart. And I am next. I am a Never Queen.”
“He will need his strength… When I knock seven shades of $h!t out of him.”
“The prince looks at me then, and it is not a gaze I have ever known before. It is intense…”
✨ Beauty and the Beast reimagining ✨ Cursed prince ✨ Reluctant allies to lovers ✨ Forced proximity ✨ Slow burn, low spice
Shivani doesn’t exactly choose the castle; she’s voluntold into six months of curse breaking in exchange for her father’s gambling debts, but she arrives with a steady spine, sharp instincts, and a refusal to be intimidated. She’s a feisty witch with grit, heart, and zero interest in being anyone’s damsel.
Theo is pure golden retriever energy wrapped in a cursed prince package, gentle, earnest, bruised around the edges but unwaveringly good. Their dynamic is warm, cautious, and slow burning in a way that feels genuinely tender.
“He has so far only been a gentleman and given me no reason to think he has an ulterior motive.”
As reluctant allies forced into close quarters, their bond grows through tiny moments, shared vulnerability, quiet protection, and a romance that leans green flag rather than tortured.
“I plan to keep you safe.” “He holds me tight, hugging me as though I am a life raft in an unforgiving sea.”
The story itself is cosy romantasy, soft edges, low angst, a few predictable beats, and a gentle unraveling of the curse. Nothing devastating, nothing crushing, just an easy, comforting read that goes down in one sitting.
“I could lay here with you for the rest of my life and be happier than I have ever been.”
This was a beautiful story it gave me Disney vibes you know where the characters are sweet and have a kind heart. This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling but with a lil twist.
The Prince of Mossgarde has been cursed by his mother at birth that makes him turn into a monster. Which according to the king only true love can brake the curse, and so he makes a decree every year after his son comes of age a young woman must volunteer to break the curse. But after years has passed and the curse has not been broken people are now afraid and no woman wants to volunteer knowing that they will only ended up dead.
That’s when Shivani comes into the picture her hateful father volunteered her without her knowledge now she only has 6 months to make the Prince fall in love with her and break the curse or die.
I love the characters specially the prince how vulnerable he was and but at the same time he was trying everything he could to protect Shivani. I think that they both complement each other perfectly she had the force and the determination that he was lacking. The romance was a perfect slow burn.
The ending was perfect I’m glad the Prince stood up for himself against his father, I enjoyed the lil twist at the end.
*Thank you to Storm Lomax (the author) for the gifted ARC.

Magic, witches, and dragons! Yes please:) There is a curse that needs to be broken to free the prince from his affliction. Women are sent to fall in love with the prince and break his curse, but when they do not succeed they are sacrificed. Shivanis father volunteers her for a reward, so she is next for this annual summons. As soon as she arrives at she finds so much more to this curse and even a way to free the servants that are kept here. With her magic cut off she tries to find a way to navigate everything and save not only herself but the prince and her friends as well.
This was a great story! I was on the edge of my seat and excitedly waiting to see what would happen. Shivani is a wonderful FMC and cares deeply about others, she is nothing but kind with everyone she encounters but her fury is unmatched when it comes to those who cross her path. I love her determination throughout the book.
This book has fantasy, a slow burn romance with forced proximity, and a curse that needs breaking. I am getting some beauty and the beast retelling vibes but this story is so much more. I am eagerly awaiting more from Storm Lomax, and will Definitely recommend.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Thank you Whimsy Words PR and Storm Lomax for the ARC of Wrath of the Never Queen.
This is a romantasy which has Beauty and the Beast vibes mixed with witchcraft, dragons and so much more. We follow protagonist and witch Shivani who is unwillingly volunteered to try to beat the curse on the prince. No one has succeeded and all who fail are executed. Shivani has 6 months to break the curse or face execution and that's just where this tale begins
The characters were divine and I loved that we have a bisexual male character that isn't a manwhore or hypersexualised. He is simply someone who likes men and women. I loved that Shivanis power and intelligence comes from her dedication and years of study so is well earned. I love the mix of magic and dragon lore and how we learn about it as we go meaning there isn't long exposition or world building monologues, we learn what we need to at the right time. The sex amount and description was perfect. Don't get me wrong I know that romantasy often is on the spicier side but I often skip the sec after a while but this was perfectly paced, placed and described so thank you for having my fave sex scene of 2025!
I really hope to see more from this author as they have a great talent for low spice, high stakes and beautiful work. It was a pleasure to ARC read for this author and I've already put a physical copy on my Christmas list!
What I loved about this book: -Curse that needs to be broken by love, it’s Beauty and the Beast Retelling. -The women who are chosen to try to break the curse are essentially sacrifices because they all fail and die. -The setting, it’s doom and gloom and way depressing. The people live in bad conditions where they struggle with the cold and finding enough food. Even in the castle with way more and much more beautiful scenery couldn’t disguise the fact that underneath was dark. -The characters, they were so perfect. The FMC is super strong and smart and the MMC is the soft one who has been abused essentially his entire life. Perfect story, I wouldn’t change a single thing. 5 out of 5 stars.
-Beauty and the Beast Retelling -Curse to break -Magic -Shifter, werewolves, dragons, witches
Thank you for the ARC, Booksprout.
“Sometimes… we are a victim of other people’s choices.”
“How are you supposed to tell a beast from a man when they look the same?”
If Storm Lomax isn't an author on your tbr yet, add her immediately. Wrath of the Never Queen is a spectacular story with an array of amazing characters.
The village of Mossgarde has a long, complicated history overshadowed by a cruel king and a curse that changed the course of its history. Shivani is a young woman desperate to escape the village and make a new life for herself. But her choice is taken from her and she must find a way to right the wrongs of the evil king.
The author has written a story that is rich and complex. But it's done in a way that readers can easily follow and absorb the information. Her world building and character development is fantastic. To top it off, there is many different types of representation throughout the story, with awesome diversity (POC, queer, disability, mental health). This is definitely a book I will read again!
If you enjoy an action filled, suspenseful romance, with diversity, a strong FMC, and a great message, get this book!
I really enjoyed this book! Despite being a Beauty and the Beast retelling, Wrath of the Never Queen felt completely original. For a standalone romantasy book, the world building and magic system were well developed and explained without being overwhelming to read. I found the writing style enjoyable as well. It reminded me of a Regency romance, making the love story element seem quite sweet and innocent at times.
The FMC, Shivani, is so fierce and independent. She has an incredible strength and a real sense of justice, especially when it comes to protecting those she cares about. Theo, the MMC, is a gentle, sensitive soul which is quite rare for romantasy books. Usually, the MMC will be brooding and dangerous, but Theo wasn’t afraid to show his emotions and let Shivani take control of situations, leaning on her for support.
Thank you so much to Storm Lomax and Whimsy Words PR for my review copy of this book.
Tropes: ✨ Feminine rage ✨ Witches, dragons, sirens & werewolves ✨ Forced proximity ✨ Female friendships ✨ They heal each other ✨ Magical curse
I read this book in one sitting it was enjoyable and a delight to read. The world-building and overall concept has absolute great bones. That said, a few aspects fell short for me, even though the story was strong overall.
I felt this book lacked that intensity when it came to the romance which to me is a big factor. I don’t mind if a book doesn’t have spice if the relationship can overpower that by giving me feelings of being inlove with our main couple. I needed more. I felt that it lacked this aspect. Not that it was bad, but for being a retelling of Beauty and the Beast it lacked passion. This felt more of a Fantasy and not a romantasy. I would have loved to see more chemistry, more moments between them, overall their relationship fell flat for me. We do get a spice scene but fell into the vanilla spice category for me.
Overall I enjoyed reading it. I just felt if it had more time to cook and show us deeper into the relationship I would have loved it more.
I received this book as an ARC. And all opinions are truthful and are solely mine. Thank you for the opportunity!
Werewolves and Witches and Dragons oh my! This book had me gripped from the moment it began. I cannot express how much I enjoyed this story. This felt like a fairytale with the characters, the beast and the library and the curse to be broken by true love. The friendships formed among the characters was so powerful to watch. The relationship between the main characters was beautiful. Shivanni was kind spirited and this was evident in the way she treated the prince from the beginning. The suspense of how to break the curse and the what happened to cause it was keeping me turning the pages. I must say that the ending story of the Siren and the Witch gave me goosebumps and tears and I’m so glad that it was included 🥰 The spice in this book was perfect. The slow burn and build up was so lovely and I liked that the spice was added but not a heavy feature. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book early. My words cannot do it justice!
