I honestly really liked the premise and was eager to read an author I'm new to in a genre I really enjoy. What followed was the constant feeling that I was missing something, very little grounding in reality where reality could be applied, insufficient connection to and between characters, and just not the ideal kind of flow to the overall story.
This is the third of the series and while I thought it might stand alone as it featured a separate couple than the first two I truly don't recommend reading it on its own. There was so much going on with the world, the characters, the politics, the coup-like issues because of mates, the council, the major players not featured yet pop in to change events drastically...there's just a ton that I felt like I was missing out on some key foundational things that I may have gotten from previous books in the series.
Whether they would have filled me in or not remains to be seen as I truly don't think I'll continue with this author, but if you liked the intrigue and dynamics here you should probably heck out the rest.
