Darren Chandler and his team have been called to the small town of Rockville, Missouri to investigate an old school that is being turned into a small hotel. The workers have walked off of the job and refuse to return until something is done about the supernatural occurrences that are happening there. Voices of small children are being heard, along with icy water suddenly flowing through the building and the sound of men and women calling out in pain. Once on the job Darren and his people encounter a group of Native Americans that also haunt the building, along with the spirit of a lone gunman. To see how all of these spirits tie in to each other someone must go back to the beginning of the school itself. To cleanse the school, they have to seek out a Native American Chief who tells them what they don't want to hear. Volume #3 in the Darren Chandler Investigation Series which includes The Green Haunting and The Wolf Run Resort Haunting.
The cover does not do the book justice. Another book with a great premise and extremely poor execution. First and foremost, there are over fifty grammatical issues: wrong tense, missing words and poorly constructed sentences. This is just a sign of an author not wanting to spend the money to release a good tight story. And the redundancy of how the characters feel and how they talk only slowed down the pace of the tale to a crawl. The premise of the story is a couple. Aldus and Victoria Scheinman have bought this old school in hope of remodeling it I guess renting it out for some purpose. That’s never divulged. However, since the renovation has begun the reports of the building being haunted are numerous to the point the workers reuse to perform any more work until the building is exercised. There are two events that occurred on the ground of this school Back in the eighteenth century, to a jilted lover comes to the school in search of his love, but winds up setting the school on fire killing her and many of the students. The second event is the school was in the path of the infamous “Trail of Tears.” For those not familiar with it, take a moment and look it up. It’s when the five civilized tribes of the South were rounded up and marched to the Indian territory of Oklahoma. The main characters are Darren Chandler, a ghost hunter. Teri Hunter, a ghost whisperer, Carl Henson, the camera man, Kent security, Audrey Mayfield, another ghost hunter. As I said earlier, there’s a great premise here, but the author gets in the way of the characters. Every time the group goes into the school, we have to be told how they insert the key, turn the key, unlock the door, push the door open then let it close. This is just ridiculous! And what is up with the husband and pregnant wife routine? I forgot how many times we have to be told she’s pregnant and by the local Doctors account shouldn’t be there? She’s not going anywhere. We get it. So move on! Until this book receives a really good going over, in its current condition, I cannot recommend it to anyone. My services are available. The ending was as flat a west Texas Armadillo! Extremely unsatisfying. 2.5 rounded up to 3
