Blame It On Paris

Rate this book
Estranged friends. A week in Paris. Infinite opportunities for mayhem.

Chloe’s dream trip hits a snag when she sprains her ankle, and her ex, Matt, swoops in as her self-appointed nursemaid. He’s adamant about rekindling their extinguished fire from six years ago, but her heart is as rigid as the Eiffel Tower.
Meanwhile, Samantha aims to restore the group’s friendships as Beau enchants her into thinking about something more by using his irresistible charm and bad movie quotes.

Despite typical antics and screwups, things take a turn when Chloe’s photographs and a mysterious thumb drive bring the group into a criminal conspiracy. Suddenly, they’re dodging thugs, foiling schemes, and outsmarting crooked gendarmes in zany misadventures. This street-smart foursome must protect each other as they rename the City of Light as the City of Love.

Ok folks, RUN and grab this book…SERIOUSLY RUN! Four lifetime friends, two males and two females, grew up having one another’s backs in hijinks, lost love, illegal shenanigans, duping the parents, and only the stupid things that happen to adventurous young people. In college, during their sophomore year, a romantic tragedy split the four into two groups for six years.

The two women become successful in many areas, as do the two men. They all teach at two different schools. They are highly intelligent, sought after, and cannot forget one another. The four win a teacher’s trip to Paris. They have to do certain assignments, tour many places, and will run into each other at the airport amidst chaos.

What follows…oh my goodness! Lost and requited love, crime, criminals, chases ending up in physical assaults, injuries, and some good old-fashioned memories…trust me…they make many more! Most people have that one friend in life that pushes us beyond our comfort zones to do something reckless, competitions, deals, pinky promises…you get the picture. These four are the epitome of this description.

Knowing two are bad enough…when the four are together…you cannot imagine how things will go. It is one comedy act after the next! The book will have you remembering a friend or friends that are ride and die! It will give you the feelings of a meant to be love, heartache, your first crush, and a love of a lifetime. The characters are well connected, friends, lovers, and more. I WANT in their friendship circle.

Helen Aitken’s new novel, Blame it on Paris, starts with the perfect title and continues from there. I highly recommend this romantic comedy threaded with loads suspense as four old friends, Chloe, Samantha (Sam), Beau, and Matt ironically meet again after the young women and men win a free trip to Paris from the different schools where they teach.
Girlfriends Chloe and Sam are roommates and fellas Matt and Beau are teachers at the same school. Though at first resistant, little by little Chloe and Matt rekindle their former relationship as do Sam and Beau. I enjoyed how the two couples’ parallel love stories intersect with each other but also develop differently. Relationships are reawakened, but not easily with all of the fear and trepidation from past hurts.
As the four travelers sightsee around Paris (lots of great description of the city), they are plagued by criminals determined to steal incriminating pictures on Chloe’s camera. Bicycles crash, people jump onto trains, and thugs steal from the group in broad daylight. It’s one calamity after another as the friends guard each other and try to distinguish between the crooks and the supposed authorities claiming to protect them. You’ll have to read this delightful book to see how it all ends!

I loved this book! Helen's descriptions of the locales around Paris really make me want to go there. I also like how she wove in historical facts about some of the places the "team" visited. You can tell Helen has been there and done her research. It's a great cozy read--some intrigue, history and romance!
