Brenda Kennedy is an award winner, an Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and a Publishers Weekly bestselling author. She is a true believer of romance. Her stories are based on the relationships that define our lives - compassionate, emotionally gripping, and uplifting novels with true to life characters, that stay with her readers long after the last page is turned.

Her varied, not always pleasant background has given her the personal experience to take her readers on an emotional, sometimes heart wrenching, journey through her stories.
Brenda has been a struggling single mom, a survivor of domestic abuse, waitress, corrections officer, hostage negotiator and a corrections nurse. She is also a wife, mom, and grandmother. Even though her life was not always rainbows and butterflies, she is a survivor and believes her struggles have made her the person she is today.

Brenda is the author of the award winning book, Forever Country (The Rose Farm Trilogy Book 1). She has been dubbed "The Queen of Cliffhangers" by her adoring readers because books one and two always have a cliffhanger ending. In Brenda's own words, "I write series that end in cliffhangers, because I love them. I always give away the first book in each series so you have nothing to lose by reading it."

She was born and raised in Zanesville, Ohio and moved to SW Florida in 2006 with her husband Rex. They have a combined family, and she often jokes about not remembering what child belongs to who.

This simply didn't work for me. Perhaps if it had been in third tense it might have been more readable, but I ended up bored out of my skull by all the rather tedious details including Emma's tingling nose, as well as several inexplicable changes of tense that made my head hurt.

I couldn't quite get to grips with a main character dying, especially when we have been in his head as well. It just seemed totally wrong somehow.

Emma came across as incredibly immature at times - sleeping with her baby in the bed with her?

I stopped reading at page 76.

Oh Brenda Kennedy, you've left me stunned, my mouth wide open, with that ending...that is all I will say about that!! Let me first say that I loved, loved, loved Shattered Dreams!! The way you worded and covered Max and Emma's story, from the birth of their son and how they came to be a family, was beautifully done. When you described their feelings, emotions, failures, achievements and so on, I felt as I was the one going through them and it sucked me in completely.

Emma has no choice but to keep moving forward when tragedy hits her life but, with the help of her family and close friends, she starts over because now someone else depends on her - James, her son. Emma is a wonderful mother always making sure James is happy as well as taken care of and making sure he knows who his father was. As they go on with their lives they meet single dad, doctor and taekwondo instructor, Alec Collins, who is intrigued my Emma.

It was beautiful to see how Emma and Alec developed a friendship at first that included their kids and, as they continued to see each other, the sparks started to sizzle even more.

We get to hear somewhat about Alec's past but not enough and that had me intrigued because I wanted to know why he's a single dad. Though one thing that was stressed was his deep love commitment for his daughter, Raelynn, and that just had my heart melting **sighing**.

I thought I had the story figured out but as I mentioned at the beginning, Ms. Kennedy threw me off my tracks completely and now I.Need.The.Rest.Of.The.Story...please! Well done, Brenda Kennedy! I can't wait for the rest and I can only imagine that there will be plenty of drama in it. ~ Kara, 5 Stars

Favorite Quotes:

“My big strong soldier wears his heart on his sleeves and his emotions on his face. Max never fears for himself but fears for me instead.”

“She want to wear her Batman costume, but I persuade her to wear regular school clothing. I guess I did the right thing, but I wonder. Usually, it is a good idea to be yourself, but if you can be Batman, maybe you should be Batman.”

My Review:

I am shocked and amazed, there was no actual sex in this book…none at all, none, zero, nada. Yet I liked it anyway! You did notice I said I was amazed right? My first time reading this author and would gladly read her work again, and it looks like I will have to if I want to find out what happens as she suckered me with a much dreaded cliffhanger – I despise those! The writing is heartfelt, easy to follow, and from multiple POVs. I enjoyed the characters, appreciated the use of humor, and had a lump in throat on occasion.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I'l be apart of the Blog Tour on 12/15/14.

I'm still finding it hard to contain all of my emotions. This was certainly an emotional read for me. I was ugly crying like crazy. It hits super close to home for me. I myself am an Army wife.

Emma is married to Max. He's a Soldier. Emma just gave birth, which is a super happy thing. Although they have some elephant in the room, and that's deployment. He's up for deployment in about six months. While they are having family time and enjoying life with their newborn son James, family is in town visiting. Max's parents to be exact. Max's dad served. Max has a meeting to go to, and they all know what that means. It means deployment is most likely getting moved up. They just don't know how soon. When Max gets home he finally comes out with that fact the deployment got pushed up to that week!!!

As Emma and Max makes plans for the future. How Max will get out in two years and they will move back home to Florida to be around family, there is still that unknown. The unknown is something that always comes with a deployment. Max leaves, and Emma is a wreck. She is alone with their newborn son. Luckily she has her best friend Brooke who lives right next door :) They become each others rocks. After a month with no contact they finally get word that they will be able to Skype!! Skype is a god send when it comes to deployments. :)

While skyping the signal keeps going in and out do to the war going on around Max. He hopes and prays that Emma won't be able to hear the background noise. The noise he has to deal with daily. Max's parents come down for a visit, and his dad ends up worried during one Skype session. He has been there, so he knows exactly what is going on. They end up staying longer because he wants to talk with Max again the next week on Skype. Although Max doesn't end up making it to their session. Emma has this feeling deep down that something bad happens. She soon gets a knock at her door. The knock every spouse wants nothing to do with. Max was KIA. He literally died a hero, saving his platoon.

Emma's world was torn apart. The first year passed in a blur. She ended up moving back home to Florida and living with her parents. After graduating college she decides it's time to move out on her own with James. She buys a house. Basically trying to put her life back together. She still can't forget about Max. He was her world after all.

A man comes into the picture four years later. To be honest as great of a guy he is, I just can't find myself to like him. It's all about moving on though right.

As much as this story made me cry, I loved it. It hits so close to home. My husband and I welcomed our daughter into the world in 2012. Four weeks later my husband deployed. 11 months later we got him back. Our daughter was about to turn one. It's moments he can't get back. You try and take as many pictures as you can, send as many packages, and write as many letters, but no matter what you can't get back that time that they missed. It's hard. It's stressful, it's scary. My husband lost many friends. A fellow spouse of mine lost her husband. They had a 6 month old daughter. She has since moved on and found happiness again. This life isn't for everyone. Anywho, I'm beginning to ramble now.

I recommend this read. 5 Stars from me :)

This is a stunningly beautiful tale of having and losing a love you thought would last forever and the struggle to pick up the pieces of your life, moving on and allowing your heart to love again.
The subject matter is close to home for many, in that it Emma and Max are a military family.
Emma was married to probably one of the sweetest characters you will ever read about- Max. He not only loved her unconditionally but he was a career military man and despite the fact that they had a new baby, he gathered his things and deployed the minute the orders came in.
Being on deployment is hard on them both but you have to feel for the isolation that Max was feeling being away from his reason for breathing. He loved his family with all his heart and being apart was devastating but it is Emma that feels the full force of devastation when the love of her life doesn’t return home… by this point in the book, I was half way through the packet of tissues and was consumed by the poignancy of the fact that this heartache was all too real for far too many.
As a single mom, Emma relocated back to Florida and settled into her role as sole provider for her son. College completed, she found work and again like many before her she was a single working mother.
Four years later she is just about ready to start to live for herself again.
On a dinner date with friends she meets Alec and slowly but surely they build a friendship and even the flicker of a romance.
Alec and Emma have potential but there is something undisclosed about Alec that wasn’t necessarily disconcerting more like completely intriguing.
His back story is incomplete, perhaps you could even say he was hiding it but why? What is the story with his daughters mother, why the subterfuge?
You will love the families and friends throughout this story, I found them all utterly enchanting but most of all you will love Emma, her resilience and fortitude and her devotion to her “mini Max”.
Superbly written, with complete concentration of the emotional of the situation, you will smile, laugh and cry your way through this book one in the trilogy.
Book 2 cannot come soon enough!

PREPARE YOURSELVES FOR AN AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL AND STRONG STORY OF LOVE, LOVE LOST AND THE BEGINNING OF NEW LOVE!!!

Emma is your girl next door. She's a military wife with a brand new baby and you can feel the love between her and her hubby, Max. I fell for Max, always loving and caring and just an amazing hubby. He hated to leave Emma with their brand new baby but you know how it is when you're a military family. Country first.

Max is struggling being away from the love of his life and his baby. All he wants to do is get home and hug his wife and son. He is a man in love and one hell of a daddy. Sadly, things don't end well for him. After all his a hero and goes out as one. Nothing make sense you want this happy family to reunite to live a happy and full life, but fate has other plans for Emma.

Emma, eventually moves back home to Florida and gets her education. She is an amazing mommy and is one hell of a strong female. She manages to get through college and is now a working momma. Her life is coming together four years after the loss of her husband. Life hasn't been easy, she's got a four year-old to raise and no husband. She does have an amazing support system that has you wanting a family like hers. Her in-laws and parents are heaven sent. Her amazing support system and backbone.

At work she is invited to dinner and attends. Her co-workers boyfriend introduces her to his co-worker Alec. Alec likes what he sees and Emma is staring a male in ways she never thought. They have little run-ins after that first time and eventually a friendship blooms and then a little more. We know what happened to Max that is no secret and he's a prominent part of the story. We know what Emma's life was and has been like. But, what's up with Alec, he's vague about his daughters momma. So, since Emma's hubby is in Heaven she assumes his wife is too.

Emma and Alec are in for the shock of their lives!!!!!

I strongly recommend this book and I am eagerly awaiting book 2. I am hooked. this was first Brenda Kennedy experience and it will NOT be my last.

Emma and Max are married and just had their first baby. They are so sweet together and have such a deep love for each other. They begin to make plans for when he is discharged from the military and then he is deployed. Emma's nightmare comes true and she and her little man have to begin a new life together. She moves to Florida to be close to family four years later and meets Alex. She begins to fall for him and then his secret comes out.

I fell in love with Emma and Max as they fell in love with their new baby boy. My heart broke for her when the worst actually happened. I adored her best friend Brooke and really want to hear more of her story. And damn...talk about cliffhanger. Holy hell. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I give Shattered Dreams 4 hearts!

I am still an emotional wreck from this book!! This book shredded me emotional, just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes. I completely recommend this book and a box of tissues!! Emma and Max, true love that ends too soon. Emma and James a beautiful Mommy and Son connection. Emma and Brooke, everyone needs a friend like Brooke. Emma and Alec both deserve happiness... cannot wait for Broken Lives!!!

I truly respect the author for allowing time to pass after Max's death to give Emma a chance at love. And to bring Alec into her life gradually, made it all the more real. I know I will be getting more Emma and Alec, but I would love to see a prequel of Max and Emma too!

4.999 stars. Why not 5? I'll tell you why.
The very last page.
The last paragraph.
The stunning cliff hanger that left me with my mouth hanging open yelling at my kindle, trying repeatedly to turn the page and find another chapter but sadly it wasn't there and now I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the next part of this story.

I am head over heels in love with this book and cannot wait for more.
Shattered Dreams is an amazing story of love and so much more, but the love between Max and Emma is so pure, so honest and perfect. And with the addition of their son it got even better.
The way their story was written draws the reader in, the explanation of Max's feeling of being a family, how everything in his world is complete, right, was amazingly well written, I don't think it could have been any better.
The author wrote the story of these two people so clearly that I felt like I felt the story, not just read it or felt like I was watching a movie, I felt the emotion pouring out of the pages. I cried numerous times, and not just a sneaky tear that got away, full on ugly crying at times and the occasional happy tear!

Emma and Max have what I consider the love of a lifetime. Their love for each other, for their son and the rest of their family is truly beautiful. These two people couldn't be more in love with each other and it shows in every page.

Then tragedy strikes and Emma is heartbroken.
With the help of her friends and family she's able to breakdown completely and then begin the healing process. She has their son to take care of and Emma's character does a great job raising him with both sets of grandparents nearby to be constant figures in his life he's gown into a well adjusted 4yr old. I loved how she kept Max as a part of his life (no spoilers, just know that some of the ways his dad is still in his life will make you ball your eyes out)

Enter Alec.
Single father to his 6yr old daughter. I loved him immediately, the love he has for his daughter shows and it seems he couldn't be more perfect.
I love the progression of Emma and Alec's relationship. From his simply being James' instructor, to friends, to dating with the kids being friends along the way.
I adored how both parents put their children first, how the kids were included in the parents friendship and were never for a second an afterthought for either of them.

Now to the end. I didn't see the cliffhanger coming and I'm still shocked at what went down. I have so many theories as to what happened and where this is going but none of them seem quite right. I'll be patiently tapping my foot awaiting book two!!

Emma and Max are so happy with the arrival of their son in their lives and dream of a happy life together but everything falls apart when Max is killed. Shattered Dreams is the first book by Brenda Kennedy that I have read and I am happy to say, enjoyed.

The first time I laid eyes on the book, I was instantly intrigued by the cover and then the blurb further attracted me to pick up the book.

The story is well planned and executed in a meticulous way so that the author succeeds in maintaining and heightening the readers' interest in the book. The story is written from the POV of several characters and chapters are dedicated to their perspectives. While this made the story more interesting, I was sometimes confused also. I had to go back and check who was telling the story in that particular chapter.

The life and trials faced by Army men and their families is so beautifully brought to life in the book that it made me misty eyed and also more appreciative of their efforts in giving us, civilians, a more protected and safe living.

The dialogues are well balanced and captivate the readers in the story. I was so involved in the happenings in Emma's life that I could not keep the book down until the very end and then too, I stewed a little because I was left hanging in a cliffhanger with a major suspense and because I could not buy the next book as it is still not out!

The characterization is well played out and will connect the readers instantly with everyone and make you feel as if you have known them from a long time. There are so many lovable characters that you will miss them as soon as you have finished reading the book. The budding romance will also steal your heart and make you root for a HEA for our beloved protagonists and the cute baby, James.

All in all, Shattered Dreams is a book that will interest you and captivate you. A promising start to a new series, it reads like an episode from a successful serial and will leave you anticipatory of the next installment. 4 out of 5 to it and recommended to all romance lovers.

I received an ARC from the author and the tour organizers and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

The thing that initially drew me to this book was the setting. I was born in Bradenton, Florida, only a few miles from Sarasota, and I was excited to read a book about a place that I know so much about. I love being able to vividly imagine places in books and this allowed for my imagination to fill in the gaps! This book was bound to be a bit emotional and I was preparing for the worst. There are moments of pure bliss, which makes the moments of pure sadness that much harder to deal with. I knew going in, both from the title of the book and the synopsis, that this would be hard but a good read. When I first began reading, it was hard to adjust to the writing style of the author. It all seemed very clinical and straight forward. There were spouts of deep emotion and then times where the writing was very factual and direct, letting the reader know the information that author wished to communicate in a very absolute way. This type of writing made the story a bit hard to get into but I loved the overall themes so I continued on. Once I was used to the author’s communication style, I started to enjoy the story. It spans over 4 plus years and takes you through a journey of emotional healing.
One of the things I appreciated most about this story was the theme of the military. This books shows the highs and extreme lows of military life, something I appreciated. It doesn’t gloss over the realities like so many others but displays them for us to see. The situation and it’s future outcomes are well portrayed throughout this book. Another theme I loved is the theme of family. It is important in this story and everywhere you turn, there is a family member there to talk to, love and support offered to Emma and her son. We see “family” bonds that have grown through hardships and friendships that are as deep as familial relations can be. When Alec is introduced in the story, we see that this theme carries over into his life as well.
The ending of this book caught me off guard and I feel like I should have seen it coming. I had wondered about Alec and his past and this surprise in the last paragraph answered come questions and raised so many new ones. I am curious to see what happens with Emma and Alec and how the story unfolds!

'I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review'

Emma is young and was in love with her husband. They had a beautiful baby boy then while on assignment he loses his life. Emma is devastated. If it was not for the help of both hers and Max's parents and her friends she would not have made it through. She finally decides to move back home to Florida with her family. She eventually gets a job and makes some wonderful new friends. Along with these friends she meets the handsome doctor Alec. Emma doesn't know what to think of her feelings for Alec. She was madly in love with Max and never thought that she could feel that way again but there is something about Alec that makes her feel again.

It has just been Alec and his daughter for a year now. When he meets Emma his is surprised by how attracted he is to her. Once he meets her he seems to run into her everywhere. He finally stops fighting the attraction and the more time they spend together the deeper he falls for her. But things don't seem to be the way that they seem on Alec's end.

My Opinion:

I was totally enamored with the first books that this one is based off of. Brenda is an amazing writer and she delivers some amazing stories that are deeply emotional and suspenseful. This book was no exception. As with the others once I started reading this book I could not put it down. Emma's character is such a beautiful person and should be able to find love again and seems to have found that with Alec. But then Brenda had to throw in a twist at the end with a cliff hanger! Now I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. There is no way that I can stop at book one and not know what happens! I definitely recommend reading this book!

I absolutely loved this book!!! Even you can get through the heart wrenching story then it is a 1 day read and worth every tear! I went through a lot of tissues on this story.

The Author grabs you and pulls you into this story. It is a story that will touch, warm, break, and mend your heart! I have read many emotional stories, but never one like this!

Emma and Max stole my heart and I found myself feeling exactly what the characters in this story felt. It wasn't just a boy meets girl and falls in love story, it started with that kind of love. I also found my self loving the co- characters of this story a lot. From Emma and Max's parent, to well all of the characters. I laughed and cried a lot! There is no fairy tale happily ever after, everything was perfect. It is more of a sometime life really hits you hard and can even break you, but if you choice you can be strong, keep living, and things can change at any moment.

After being completely devastated with the loss of Max, when Emma meets Alec I find myself just as attracted to his character as she is. He is great man and with a strong personality and what she needs. It's like getting two amazing love stories in one!

I won't give anything away, although this is one book I would love to just tell you all about. My husband definitely heard all about it during my many rants, bragging, and emotional break downs.

If you like reading stories that have a lot of meaning and take, hold and twist your heart strings. Well, this is the one! I have to although the end was probably the one thing that was hardest to swallow, I "CAN NOT" wait for Broken Lives (Freedom Trilogy Book 2). Shattered Dreams at this time is free amazon kindle, but at it's normal price of $2.99 it is most definitely worth it!

Yes, I recommend this book as a great read!!! If you like tear-jerker stories then this is a MUST read!

I was gifted this ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review! First of all, it is book one of a trilogy with a serious cliffhanger ! I normally wait until all books of a series are published before I read them because cliffhanger make me crazy! But after reading Brenda's first series, I couldn't wait to start Shattered Dreams! And believe me, it was well worth the cliffhanger !
Shattered Dreams starts off with Emma and Max. A young married couple, Max is in the army and is stationed in New York. They have a sweet, pure love that we all dream about. A happy life with good friends, a supportive family and a beautiful new baby boy. But dreams shatter and when tragedy strikes and the unthinkable happens, Emma has to find a way to carry on for the sake of her son.
Fast forward a few years, Emma and James are closer to family and getting by and better every day. She dedicates her time to raising her son, not thinking about dating or loving again. But then she meets Alec, a friend of a friend, who is the first man to make her heart race since Max. Alec and Emma start to spend time together along with her son James and Alec has a daughter Raelynn! They begin a friendship that becomes more. There is a bit of a mystery surrounding Raelynn's mother. You don't really get the story about what happened to her. Yet???
The secondary characters were very likable! I especially loved Emma's best friend Brooke who was her neighbor on the Army base and years later becomes her neighbor again! And James is a delightful child, I enjoyed watching him grow.
I will anxiously await the second book but until then I highly recommend you read this book! It will make you cry but it will make you smile more! Thank you Brenda for another brilliant story!

I'm so happy I got the chance to review this book because it was absolutely amazing!! I had an all nighter without even realizing it because I could not look away from my kindle! Max & Lauren had me captivated from the very beginning. Such great love! Max is definitely every girls dream! He was beyond swoon-worthy.

I wasn't ready for it to change. I can honestly say that I was in complete denial of what was about to happen.

When it got heartbreaking, I cried! Like actually cried! I can't recall the last time a book made me cry! My heart was aching but I was happy to see that light was able to re-enter this story because I was so heart broken. Then their is James... Oh, James. He was the most adorable & respectful little boy & even though things were getting better for them, my heart still ached for him.

And Brooke, that girl cracks me up! I absolutely loved the friendship between her & Lauren.

And lastly Alec... Oh my. Could it get any more better??? A HOT, amazing, single dad who is also an MD! Um... Yes please! I was complete putty and his daughter Raelynn was absolutely adorable.

To say that the end of this book had my jaw hitting the floor would be an understatement! I seriously read the ending 4 times!!! I was like WAIT!!! WHATTTT?!?!?!?!

With that being said...Brenda, AMAZING WORK!!! When can I get my hands on book 2???? I'm dying here! I must have more!!!

I def suggest this book to anyone looking to read a loving story that lets you into the life of what it's like to be a military wife & the things that accompany it, good & bad & how to move forward in life whether by choice or not.

This book starts with the birth of Emma's and Max's son named James Maxwell Greyson. A very handsome baby boy whose parents are so much in love with that their love grows bigger and bigger day by day. The book brings you into the life of Max and Emma and if course James.

Max is enrolled into the armed forces and you get to see the life of a soldier but more than that you get to see how the wife handles staying home and then you get to know Emma even better. Max does end up being killed and it shows you how your life can change so drastically in a short amount time. After Emma becomes a wife, then mother and then widow, her world starts going down hill rather quickly. Emma was very used to having Max around but losing him makes her a stronger women, in my opinion.
Emma has to get on with her life because the world doesn't stop for your grief but it keeps going around. She has her parents and Max's parents to help out with James while he grows up without his father. I like the way that the author has Emma talk about Max to James. Max visits Emma in her dreams and to me it proves that no matter what happens in your life, that true love doesn't stop just because of death.

Emma meets a handsome taekwondo instructor who also just happens to be a Doctor. Alec was married and also has a daughter a little older than James. You never do find out what exactly happens to Alec's wife. The story hints around what could have happened to James wife but you never really know if she died or is still around. I like the guessing part that relates to Alec's because it gives him an air of mystery and I can't wait to learn more about him.

I can't wait to read the other books in this series. I am hooked! It is a page turner right up until the very end.

I just finished reading Shattered Dreams. It is the first book in The Freedom Trilogy written by Brenda Kennedy. Emma is living her dream life. She is married to the man she loves with all her heart and soul, and they just gave birth to their first child. Then, he’s deployed early and killed overseas. She is devastated over his loss, but she must learn to pick up the pieces for her son. Can she move on and find love again or will her heart be forever shattered?

I loved this book. I must say that at the beginning I had to push myself to continue reading. That isn’t because of bad reasons though. It was a great start. The story was so beautiful. That’s why I didn’t want to continue reading. I knew from the title and description that bad things were headed. I didn’t want to reach that part. I’m glad I did and kept reading. This is a very detailed and very beautiful story. I fell in love with all of the characters, especially Emma and James.

There wasn’t anything I disliked about this book. It was well written. I almost didn’t want to put it down. Oh how life interferes with our reading time sometimes. I do fully recommend that if a person reads this book they have tissues on hand though. Sometimes it can bring a person to tears.

I fully recommend this book. It is a beautifully written emotional story. The characters are easy to connect with. The story is easy to follow. It’s not the typical cheesy story that we usually see. It has its own unique twist. I am so honored that I was able to read this book. I will be reading the rest of this trilogy. I also plan to read her other books as well. This author has talent.

Okay I’ve never done something like this so bare with me :)

First Shattered Dreams was an altogether an amazing book just like I knew it would be! I read the synopsis of the book before reading the actual book so I had some idea of what it was going to be about, but I am very happy that the beginning of the book started with Emma and Maxs life together, this gave the reader an emotional attachment to their love for each other. You had me crying twice just with in the first few chapter once when Max was shipped off for early deployment and when Emma got the news that Max was killed in action and saved everyone in his platoon (when Max was killed I cried my eyes out). I also loved how you didn’t just skip right to her new life in Florida you gave her time to grieve Max and some time for James to grow up. I love how you include the ending of Destined to love with this book. I love how you don’t rush things with Emma and Alacs relationship but at the same time things don’t drag out. Also I love how Max comes to Emma and James in their dreams, I know Emma is starting to move on with Alac but I hope you have Max appear in her dreams still every now and then. :) All together the book was put together perfectly! Oh and holy cliffhanger at the end!!!!

I am a very picky reader and I love reading Brenda's books! She is a truly amazing author!! I cant wait for more books she has planned in the future!!! :)

This is a true romance story full of emotion. The focus of the story is on the impact the war has on a young couple with a newborn baby.

Max is deployed early back to Afghanistan just three weeks after Emma has given birth to their son James. It is heart wrenching to read their goodbye. This is such a young couple full of dreams for their future, a supportive family, and a strong love for each other.

Max is killed and the impact this has on his young family will bring you to tears. Our story brings to the forefront the remarkable military wives that bond and support each other. Any one of them could be in Emma's shoes. They feel for each other and come to the rescue of any of the families in need of a little tender care after losing someone to the war.

As Emma attempts to continue living and caring for her child, we discover some very emotional things about Max and how caring he was. Even after his death he is caring for Emma and James and it is sometimes heartbreaking.

The only way I know to describe this story is to compare it to a gentle breeze that touches and refreshes. It is like the oxygen you breathe, it is all around you caring for you and there when you need it.

As Emma embarks on perhaps a new chapter of her romantic life, her world is thrown into chaos. I cannot wait for the next installment of this story. I keep hoping she will find happiness and a partner for life that can care for her.

An amazing read!
The link between Max and Emma is absolutely amazing and the love they share is so wonderful. You can just feel their love and devotion to each other. The birth of their son is such a touching loving moment and with the support of their families and friends, it just makes even more beautiful. We know Max is going to die but when it happens make sure you have a full box of tissues handy....the sadness and grief are overwhelming but so well written and just so emotional.
Jump ahead 4 years........
And we meet Alec again and this time his story gets told and we find out there is much more to him then just saving Angel's life (Saving Angel series). We also find out that Emma is somehow tied to this event too.
The chemistry between Emma and Alec is hot but the tenderness and caring they show towards each other is even better. Their romance starts out slow like an old fashioned courtship and they get to know each other but you can tell that they are just made for each other.....plus their kids get along so well that it must be fate.
But Alec is hiding a secret that ends this book with a nice little cliffhanger.
This book just blew me away.....so emotional but happy too! Your tear ducts will get a workout and it didn't break the bank to buy it. The author packs a lot into those 100+ pages. So looking forward to the other 2 books.
There were a few quote marks missing here and there when people were talking but otherwise a well written read.

Emma Greyson, age 22, has a loving husband, Max, and a newborn son, James. She has it all. Picture perfect life. Until her hero husband is called into duty. Her worst night mares come to life, and the love of her life, the Father to her new born son, is killed in action.

It takes years for her to adjust, move on, but can you really? After morning close to her Family, in Florida, every day she grows, all due to this precious gift of a four year old little boy who is the spitting image of max.

After four years is she ready for a new man? It takes times, lots of time, but as soon as she starts to open her heart, circumstances beyond her control have her questioning the future.

This story was both addicting and filled with sorrow, a balance that is difficult to achieve. I lived through the grief along with Emma, but also pulled through the pain with her as well. This is a story that will pull at your heart strings and never let go.

I was so connected I instantly wanted to download book two within seconds of finishing Book one, but we all have to wait this trilogy is yet to be released in full. I will be counting down the days till the next installment is available. And I will read it with great appreciation as I did Book one.

I highly recommend this series. Emotional as it was, it will remain with you for some time.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really loved this book. Another great book to what is going to be hands down another great series from Brenda. Its a very sweet love story that starts out between Max and Emma and then the unthinakable happens. Fast forward a few years and we see Emma trying to move on without the love of her life and ends up meeting Alec. This book will leave you heartbroken and on an emotional rollercoaster at certain points but yet have you rooting for Emma and wishing she gets her happily ever after. Loved the secondary characters as well especially Emmas best friend Brooke. Told in many POVs which I loved seeing as we get a little bit of everybodies take on certain things that happened thru out the story. But be warned (and this is not a spoiler) if you are not a fan of cliffhangers then I suggest waiting to read this because it has an OMG WTF just happened there moment at the very end but then again Brenda loves giving us cliffhangers and leaving us on the edge of our seats till the second book comes out. Again very well wrtitten book, didn't feel rushed at all and I just love how Brenda can incorporate a few steamy moments without going to far and leaves it to your imagination.

A review by Vanessa.

Emma and Max are a typical young American military couple. With the arrival of their new baby James, they are ecstatic with joy. Their lives seem almost perfect. But when Emma loses Max to an unexpected bomb in Afghanistan, making Max a beloved hero to all who know him and Emma a widow and single mother, she must learn to live without him. Four years later, Emma and James have moved back to their home state of Florida to be near all of James’s grandparents and to try and move on with their lives. Alec is a handsome, athletic, tae kwon do-instructing doctor, with some sadness in his past and a daughter of his own. When these two single parents meet and keep bumping into each other, life seems to be setting itself right again. Their large and supportive families who care for them are cautious but hopeful that these two may find something in each other that they really need. Emma and Alec are hoping the same…

Review for Shattered Dreams by Brenda Kennedy

Review done for Hooked on Books

4 out of 5 stars

Emma Greyson lost the love of her life at such a young age. Emma and Max were each other’s soul mates until he is killed in the line of duty, leaving her with a brand new baby to care for.

Four years later, she is living on her own with her son James in Sarasota, Florida. Emma is so strong and is determined to make a life for her and James.

Alec is a gorgeous and sweet doctor, and possibly a new beginning for Emma. He is also a single parent, raising a daughter.

This was a super sweet love story. My heart broke for Emma and Max; also for James. I was so happy that Emma has found someone to move ahead with. Alec seems like a perfect guy. They seem to have great chemistry between them.

The author did a great job with this story. The multiple point of views really added to this story instead of distracting from it. The story flowed wonderfully and the author finished it with a cliffhanger that has definitely left me wanting more!

I recommend this book to read and I cannot wait for book 2!

OMG!! Love the start of this new series by Brenda! It was a very heartbreakingly, sweet, romantic book. Emma loses the love of her life overseas and is left to raise a newborn baby. You actually get to know the love that is there in the beginning, it helps you fall in love with the characters from page 1. Then it shifts to 4 years later and you get to watch Emma try and rebuild her life with her son, James. Slowly with new changes comes a chance as a possible new love. Can they make it work? Or will the fear be too much? Also, if you love cliffhangers, which I personally do, you will definitely not want to miss this one! This is a cliffhanger of ALL cliffhangers. Normally I can tend to predict what may end up happening when I read books. Well *I* didn't see this one coming at all. So can't wait for when the next book comes out! This is a definite MUST READ! This is one of those books you just want to snuggle up next to the fireplace with a cup of cocoa and enjoy! Don't forget to get a copy, you will NOT be disappointed, I promise!
