Enemy Mine - Base Branch Novel 1

When friends become enemies and enemies become lovers.

Born in the blood of Sierra Leone's Civil War, enslaved, then sold to the US as an orphan, Base Branch operative Sloan Harris is emotionally dead and driven by vengeance. With no soul to give, her body becomes the bargaining chip to infiltrate a warlord's inner circle. The man called The Devil killed her family and helped destroy a region.

As son of the warlord, Baine Kendrick will happily use Sloan's body if it expedites his father's demise. Yet, he is wholly unprepared for the possessive and protective emotions she provokes. Maybe it’s the flashes of memory … two forgotten children drawing in the dirt beneath the boabab tree… But he fears there is more at stake than his life.

In the Devil's den with Baine by her side, Sloan braves certain death and discovers a spirit for living.

Interesting romantic suspense Kindle Freebie. Common format with a secret group of agents working for the government, Branch, our heroine works for them and she was totally butt kicking. Hero is a childhood love who seems to have turned evil working for his father, the same father that killed heroine's parents.

Action, undercover, and fast paced. I thought towards the end one too many bedroom scenes interrupting the good action that was going on but these two probably deserved that time :)

Some editing mistakes but this looks to be self-published and, again, I downloaded as a Kindle Freebie, so I can look a little past since they weren't completely glaring and/or ruined the flow of story. I'll definitely be checking out the next in series.

If you enjoy a strong lead female character who is smart, decisive, and can kick some serious butt. A complicated hero who fights his own demons and walks a fine line between meeting out well deserved justice and doing what's right ENEMY MINE is a must read. Sloan is a more interesting character because of her diverse background. Born to a white American father and an African mother in Sierra Leone, Sloan witnessed and survived the violent loss of both of her parents at once. After being raised in America Sloane has dedicated her life to bringing justice to the one man who is responsible for not only her suffering but the suffering of thousands of others as well. Sloan's strength was forged in tragedy and heartbreak and she is determined not to let the monster responsible get away and not pay for his crimes.

Baine has survived the cruel and unloving rearing provided by his father and has decided to extract vengeance for himself, his mother, and all of the other people his father has destroyed in his own way. Baine's reputation of being as cold blooded and deadly as his father is not only saving him from his father, but allowing him to get closer to administering his own form of justice.

Sloan and Baine's paths cross in a very unexpected way and the story rockets off from there. ENEMY MINE is full of both sexy romance and a suspenseful storyline. I love that Sloan and Baine are not cookie cutter romance characters and have depth and interest to their personalities. Sloane and Baine's love is difficult, complicated, and intense. ENEMY MINE is an excellent romantic suspense read. Mitcham has created a cloak and dagger world with diverse and interesting characters that I will be following throughout the BASE BRANCH series. I look forward to reading book 2 JUSTICE IS MINE which is Magdalena's and Law's story.

This book turned out to be such a nice surprise. A definite page turner... and, oh so sexy! Baine and Sloan were steaming up the pages! Their relationship was surprisingly emotional and touching... I loved it... :)
This is one of those enemies to lovers stories... two people who are on opposite sides of the fence. She's an assassin for the CIA and he is the son of the enemy... one of her targets.
Sloan volunteers to play the role of a high paid escort in order to get closer to the man they refer to as The Devil. The same man who was responsible for her traumatic childhood. When she arrives at the compound she is reunited with his son Baine. They were once friends and playmates for the short time she was held captive at the compound as a small girl. She had hoped he would not remember her now that so much time had passed because she was sure he was no longer the friendly little boy she once knew. But, there was simply no stopping the bonds of friendship they once shared from bubbling back up to the surface. And, Sloan finds herself in the difficult position of falling for the enemy.
Baine is a character that you can't help but feel empathy for... his father was determined to raise a son that would follow in his deadly footsteps. He had to play his game in order to find a way to beat him. He was a very conflicted man, always walking a thin line between becoming the monster his father wanted him to be and being the man he knew himself to be.
I love how these two found something worth fighting for other than revenge and I was really rooting for their HEA!
The end of the book did bring a few tears to my eyes... especially when Sloan finally decided to face the losses from her past and the memories of her parents. Very touching...
So, a great read and I already have the rest of the books in this series in my to read pile! This newbie author has gained a big fan... :)

Nice choice for those who like a little steamy romantic suspense!

Thanks so much to the author for the complimentary copy!

Sloan Harris is the best operative for the job despite her ulterior motive. An opportunity arises to help both the country and herself with Sloane's personal knowledge of arms dealer Devereaux 'The Devil' Kendrick. Anger over his part in her parent's, memories of his treatment of her and his own family deaths burns deep as she helps her team defends against Deveraux' latest threat on American soil.

When an assignment goes awry, the best choice to capture Devereaux is for Sloan to beard the lion in his den, surrounded by his allies, including her ex-friend and playmate, Devereaux' son. Baine. Committed to her actions, Sloan has to decide if the enemy of her enemy is her friend, if she can trust or not and get the job done either way when she realizes what and how much is at risk.

No doubt, Sloan's the tough take no prisoner female you seldom see outside the paranormal/urban fantasy realm. (They exist but seem few and very far between.) She doesn't let her troubled past get in the way and compartmentalizes with the best of them. Sloane can play any game the big boys want to play and beat them at it. She's fierce in her drive and abilities, smart, gorgeous with a drool-worthy body.

Baine and Sloan worked well as partners and lovers for this outing. But their story was secondary to the job. As a villain, Devereaux comes off as a bully and more lecherous than dangerous in his scenes for my taste. Kobi was more a threat to himself than anyone else. The final battle was tense and fitting for the read. Secrets were spilled and bathed in light as the webs were untangled.

This reader stumbled a bit adjusting to the style, phrasing and what seemed to be timing. However, it was not enough to undermine the integrity of this fast paced story that was worth sticking around for. This reader has every intention n moving onto book two of the series.

(On a side note, forever ago when I went to school, back before they had school, I was taught the meaning of buxom was chesty, large breasted. So imagine the visualization and adjustment on buxom hips.)

Romance and Suspense..

Sloan, the female lead, was a strong determined character.

She is tasked with an undercover assignment as an escort to the warlord.

Blaine, the male lead, is the warlord's son and the reader sees that he was very

protective of Sloan throughout the story, especially when she finds out that she is the

new play thing for not just one but several of the warlord's men.

The story was fast paced, full of action and a hint of romance making this book a

Good Read.

Jeffrey Kafer did well with the narration.

Right away you are plunged into danger and suspense because one gutsy lady on a mission is who you are introduced to by this author. She works for a secret branch that is so top secret that danger is child's play to them. Sloan is then partnered with Ryan to stop something really big. This author sure knows how to catch me since I do so love novels of this type. I also like the fact that this female main character is no wuss either but it would seem she is almost without feelings though thanks to her past and a personal agenda. Sloan though will be singing a different tune though when she meets up with her someone from her past because it slams into her one more time. Baine is the male main character that will turn the tables on things with him also being the son of the evil they are after. This is a very fast paced action packed novel that will continue to be like that through out reading it. No time for mind to wonder or lag for certain with all that goes on in the storyline. Sides will have to be taken though and this will have Sloan and Baine coming together to work in removing the threat to not just them but many others. Baine also has his own plan and agenda all which will be revealed in the reading. They will be involved in some hairy situations and but also do more than just team up. This is the good part also they will melt together in more ways than one. It won't just be the heat of the area they are in either that will roll off of them. I also enjoyed this novel because of how justice will be served and how. It is the classic though evil defeated with love as the winner. Sloan and Baine will both win the prize. This is the first book in the Base Branch Series. This story is full of suspense and intriguing characters. Sloan and Baine are caught up in a world of sex slaves, drugs, and gun trafficking. Friends as children, life has sent them in different directions. When they find themselves face to face again after over 15 years, things are not what they seem and neither can trust the other.

Both Sloan and Baine are very strong characters with enough courage to do anything on their own. Working together to bring down a warlord, their reunion serves to bring the past into their present and emotions run high. They discover that the past never really leaves you and old feelings resurface.

This is a fresh and exciting story with lots of great characters. It is a story about love, strength of will, and so much chemistry between the main characters.

As reviewed on Read Our Lips:

Sloane, a tough, capable operative, goes in undercover in the home of the Devil in Sierra Leone. That she shared a bit of her childhood with his son and heir is something she´s trying hard to forget. She´s finally getting justice for what the Devil did to her parents, and for what happened to her life.
Well protected and armed, with guards in every part of the house, this is harder than anyone would think. But can she have an unexpected ally in Baine, the son? And why is the chemistry between them so flammable?
Romantic suspense, action and smutty fluff in a great combination.

You know those authors that you read faithfully because you always know what you're getting, and they always deliver? There are those certain gifted writers that can write emotional love, steamy scenes, and action and intrigue. Megan Mitcham is one of those authors, and I feel confident that in the future she will be a "go-to" for so many readers. Her Base Branch series is fresh and exciting and sexxxxxxeeeeeee. The connection between Baine and Sloan that she portrays in the first book of the series, Enemy Mine, is so complex and sweet and satisfying that I read it twice. I can't wait for more books in this series!

Sloane is a strong fearce female who is seeking revenge for her parents death. Along her way Sloane meets Baine. Baine is the son of the evil man known as The Devil, the only thing is Baine is nothing like his farther, but he has to play the part in order to take him down. Sloan and Baine are after the same thing, can they survive Thierry chemistry or will they let their families history interven. I really enjoyed this book. I gave a 5 star rating it kept me on the edge of my sit . Definitely a must read.

This is a story that will keep you on the edge guessing to the outcome until the end. The author gives you a intriguing plot that is fast paced full of power play, sex, drugs, very strong will characters, hot sex, guns, kill or be killed, undercover work, love, romance, needs, wants, revenge. What else could you ask for?

Mr. Kafer has a very strong sex voice that you get lost in as he brings to life the story. He pulls you in with his rough bedroom tones that you could listen to all day. He many different voices fit each character to a T from the soft feminine to the rich deep males and all the ones in between. I have not listened to anything from this narrator and was very impressed with his performance. He put a lot of thought into each character before he started the read. It was easy to feel the emotion of each character as he pulls you in. You feel each pain, thrill, excitement, and sorrow through his voice. Both his male and female voices were outstanding. I did not hear any background noises or any place where he might have stopped and restarted. The volume is even with no places where it is higher or lower than others just plain wonderful. What you get is a nice clear, clean sexy audio that keeps you heart pumping through the thrills and chills as the good guys try to take out the bad. I am so looking forward to listening to more of this narrators work.

The author gives you one exciting scene after another which leaves you holding your breath waiting for the end to come. It is anyone’s guess to the outcome when you are dealing with kill or be killed. Sloan Stole my heart from the start with her story of parents, being a slave, and learning to carry on. She turns to the FBI to bring some meaning to her life. She is known for her ice cold heart that nothing can get through. She remembers a time and a place with one little boy who changed her world for a short time and than he was taken away from her. Now that little boy has grown up and gone as bad as his father. To take down his father she might have to take him down as well. Can she kill the only person who gave her life meaning or will body become as frozen as her heart has.

I wasn’t sure how to take Baine at first from the first scene he comes across as the bad one. It isn’t long before you understand he has demons chasing him just as Sloan does. He does his best to protect her but there is only so much one man can do. He has spent years getting close to his father to get the revenge he wants. He will take everything away from him as his father did him.

This was a very good listen outstanding plot that moves very fast. Sloan and Baine have some powerful attraction with some heated scenes that will burn up your e reader. Both remember another time and another place when young love bloomed but now there is just too much revenge going on. Things might be different if and when they come to know they are on the same side both pretty much wanting the same things for the same reason. There is some confusion between the two but once they get their act together you have some powerful chemistry. It does seem some are not happy about this as one wants the man’s son taken out so he can have some power. These are very strong characters with some powerful muscles that can take you out in a second. It is a very fast pace read you will be through it in no time as the author hooks you from start to finish. This is one audio I could not put down Wal-Mart just loves me I think I bought way more than I needs just because I wanted to listen longer.

I haven’t read anything by this author before and I do look forward to reading more of her work. She gives a thrilling suspenseful read. She knows how to keep her readers invested and hanging on waiting to see the outcome as bad goes against good which could be a fight to the death leaving one man and one woman heartbroken.

Enemies to lovers is a great romantic suspense trope; the danger heightens everything both physically and emotionally. In this case, Sloan was tasked with stopping an assassination attempt and her target turned out to be a childhood friend. I felt her dismay, her anger and her determination to do what was expected of her. Blaine had not only been her friend, but he'd been Sloan's light during one of the darkest times of her life.

Branch Agent Sloan Harris was one badass heroine. When she was first introduced, you'd have thought she had ice in her veins and in her heart. She only seemed to thaw around her partner. Her back story was full of pain and thoughts of revenge all of which made her into the woman she'd become. Things got interesting once Sloan went undercover as an escort to infiltrate the warlord's sprawling estate.

Blaine Kendrick was hell on my hormones. Charming, intelligent, protective, cunning and deadly. The life Sloan thought he'd been living was all smoke and mirrors though as he had a few secrets of his own. He was very protective of Sloan and kept running interference with his father's lap dog, Kobi. Essentially, she had found herself in the position as the shiny new toy in a den full of ruthless animals. All the key players in this story had their own agenda. The exciting part was seeing who would gain the upper hand and manage to stay alive.

The chemistry between them was off the charts hot and didn't feel staged despite them playing their roles to stay alive. The sex was graphic, but those scenes never overpowered the story or felt like filler. If I did question one thing, it was Sloan's rather quick turnaround from the hard, closed-off woman in the beginning to the passionate woman she was around Blaine. I thought her admission of falling in love with Blaine came about a little too quickly to feel authentic. I believed Blaine's feelings more readily because of an interesting admission on his part.

The build-up of suspense to the climax was a nail-biter all the way to the end. I don't want to give anything away, but there was a big surprise where Blaine was concerned. I wasn't expecting that particular revelation at the end. This was my first Megan Mitcham book, but it won't be my last. If you love a kickass heroine who falls for the enemy, a man whose loyalty is questionable, suspense, intrigue and an exotic setting, then you'll enjoy this fast paced story.

His lips spread into a thin smile and he leaned closer. “It takes brass balls to stand there after that kind of blow. I’m impressed.”

She smiled back, mirthlessly. “Don’t be. It doesn’t take balls when you’re a person with nothing to lose.”

Baine’s brow pinched and his smile faded. “That’s unfortunate, because I need you to have a bit of self-preservation, if we’re going to make it through this week.”

In turn he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her close. “Are you going to hurt me?”

“Maybe,” she growled into his ear. “Why didn’t you kill me in D.C. and why am I still alive?”

“I hate to see such a nice rack go to waste?”

“Try again,” she threatened, adding pressure with both her hands.

“All right.” His head turned and his lips captured hers.

What a way to be introduced to a series.

Sloan and Baine... two people with secrets and lives that are very much 'don't know, don't tell' who knew one another once upon a time -- and while they haven't seen each other in more years than will fit on either's hands, their minds have thought about the other a time or two.

Sloan, once upon a time, went by the name Sia. When a dangerous man came to her school when she was five, her whole world was upended. Eventually, she made it stateside, where she was adopted and became Sloan Harris. Finally, she felt like she belonged again -- until they became pregnant and again, she was alone in the world.

Baine's father is a terrible man -- one he wants nothing to do with. But after watching him kill not only his mother, but take the lives of other innocents, Baine knows better than to disobey... for lack of a better term. As heir, he's due to take over his father's reign but Baine has other ideas.

When Sloan is given an assignment, she knows the man she's needed to take out -- and it kills her.

No, she hasn't seen her childhood friend in ages, but if it's true that he is his father's secondhandman, she will put her country and her sense of right or wrong to the forefront, and ignore her feelings.

...she doesn't expect all that comes after.

It kills Baine to hurt her, but he can't let it be known he knows this escort being brought in to his father's company. There were instances in Baine's thoughts that you knew that he knew who she was... but then other times you thought maybe he was indeed clueless.

The first true clue that he knows who she is, is said in almost an off-handed comment that could mean a miriad of things.

Does she figure it out? Or will it take a little bit more...?

I really enjoyed watching these two -- battle of wits doesn't even begin to talk about these two. He's a smartass with his father, but extremely careful around her. She's extremely strong, mentally and physically, but her one true weakness is Baine. She has trust issues, but they don't play too much into the story.

Baine and Sloan... oh, how I loved them. So much so that while I loved learning about Lawrence's true identity... reading his story had a bit of me wanting to read more about Baine and Sloan -- but no worries, Lawrence's story is equally good...

...if not a little better.

And Ryan? Mmmhm, Mr. Noble, I can't wait to watch you fall, too.

*Thank you to the author for providing me with an eARC in exchange for a honest review.

Once I started Enemy Mine, I was hooked on it and I had to finish it before I do anything else! At first, the synopsis and the book cover wasn’t that enticing but once I read the first few chapters, I already know I would love it!

To me, Enemy Mine feels like a combination of both Mission Impossible and Ultraviolet!

Sloan Harris is the perfect example of a soldier who lives only for revenge and nothing else. She’s practically emotionless towards many things in life or should I say, a lack of wants. I have this notion that if Sloan wasn’t driven by revenge and being a Base Branch operative, she would have wasted her life away or probably having suicidal thoughts.

I love how the author portrays Sloan’s character. Sloan believes she can pull off her mission well, which she does all the time, and even when faced with the man she recognise as the boy that made her dark childhood bearable, she’s certain she won’t hesitate.

She may seem incapable of any emotions but in the end, she’s just human and she feels for Baine.

Baine Kendrick, the first person I have ever read about in a book who hates his father so much. I’ve read plenty of books with protagonists hating their parents but the hatred is nothing compared to what Baine feels for his father.

I don’t want sound weird or anything but part of the reason why I like Baine so much is because his feelings for his father never disappears or soften. He just hates the man so much. Of course, that and his love for the one he loves most.

The way the author wrote the book is pretty cool. It’s one of those books in a third person’s point of view but it also stops at certain part, like a cliff-hanger and move onto another character’s perspective.

(This will probably explain the reason why I kept on reading until I finish it before I can do anything else! Oh, and the amount of time my heart seems to stop!)

Recommended for those who wants to have a read of heart-pumping-stopping action filled with a twist of love!

ORIGINALLY POSTED AT DJ'S BOOK CORNER

I enjoyed this book, I really did. The pacing was great, the plot exciting, and I really liked the characters. And I will mention that the covers for this series are really nice :)

I can admit that I really liked Sloan at the beginning of this book but toward the end felt she was a bit...I don't know...SOFT. She was a straight gangster for the first half of this book and I LOVED that. But then here comes Baine with his sexy self and her romantic feelings toward him soften her up. I mean, of course, this is going to happen, but I immediately missed the hardcore Sloan the moment she vanished from the pages. But overall, I liked Sloan and the fact that she is a female operative that can seriously kick ass is great.

Who wouldn't love Baine? He is sexy and authoritative and all the things a man in a book like this should be. It threw me for a loop when we find out (like right away) that Sloan and Baine already know each other. See, Sloan is the good buy and Baine is the bad guy, so I was like, how the hell is this going to work out? Sloan goes undercover to bring down Baine's father, Devereaux (asshole!), who is a mass murderer among other things. Damn, I hated him and that made this book even better. I love when the author actually makes you hate the person you are supposed to hate. Some authors tell you who the bad guy is and you're like hold up, I like that person! But not here. I was itching to gut Devereaux Kendrick as much as Sloan was, though she had a better reason.

As far as length, this book isn't that long, but it is packed with plenty of action and romance. Loved it! I'm really starting to adore these romantic suspense books and I find myself reading more and more of them. I'm excited to read the next book in this series, Justice Mine. It features Law Pierce who was a pretty important character in Enemy Mine so this should be fun.

Do I recommend? Sure do! If you like danger and blood with your romance, then this is definitely a book worth trying out.

A rather enjoyable read, with an immensely capable heroine and a hunky hero traipsing around to bring down a warlord - with a load of obstacles in the way, their shared childhood not withstanding. Sloan and Baine have an undeniable chemistry and I definitely liked them together as well as the setup of the intrigue that unfolds over the course of the book, whetting my appetite for the rest of the supporting characters' own stories.

I do have some gripes though. (Maybe this could actually be a consequence of self-publication?)

Characterisation: For a hardass, Baine seems rather 'soft' and actually seemed on the brink of tears from time to time - which made me nervous because I really so wanted to read about a hero who has the X-factor (as well as the classic British-isms that make Brit heroes so iconic).

Fact check:
And did Sloan go to Princeton or to Yale?

Writing and style: Proof-reading not withstanding, Megan Mitcham's unusual and sometimes awkward use of phrases (with the abundant usage of the middle voice), while poetic on occasion, would have been better without the prolific use of analogies/metaphors as they do interfere with the flow of the action and suspense. Characters' speech patterns are odd, delving into archaic constructions better suited to historical novels - instead of feeling moved as Sloan and Baine declare their devotion to each other in an almost-medieval way, I was actually blinking in bewilderment at the bizarre way they talked. Continuity also seems to be an issue; the transitions between paragraphs/chapters/POVs are sometimes abrupt, and I'm often left wondering what actually took place between the last sentence and the next.

That being said, I'm not ready to give up on this author just yet. There are more books to come and as other reviewers have mentioned, they do seem to get better.

A digital copy of this book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

This is a tale of grit and determination. The book revolves around a central theme of achieving a goal – whatever it takes, packed within a frame if action-packed adventure. This is the first book in the Base Branch Series by the author. The story’s protagonists are remarkable in their league. Sloan is a ruthless and heartless secret agent and is on a vengeful mission. She decides to take on a formidable man, who was not only responsible for her folks, but is a warlord and crime king feared by many. Enters Sloan’s childhood friend, Baine. Baine and Sloan meet after a number of years but emotions are evoked when the two meet. Baine is not only the son of the man that Sloan is trying to trounce, but is also shamelessly amoral and has no qualms about stepping out of moral boundaries of any standards. Life takes them both through a torrent of scenes in the crime world.

Mitcham deals with the complexities in the two characters beautifully. Baine, who is unabashedly pursuing life his way, and Sloan who is dead inside are both very alluring characters. The plot is woven nicely as a web in the midst of these two. Although some pages get predictable, the story is well-paced and keeps the reader hooked. The story narration perspective from one point of view to another is well-handled. Mitcham also has a good command over the language and as a reader, one can’t help but wish that the emotional side of the Sloan – Baine saga was dealt with even more deeply spanning more pages, purely because Mitcham has a great style of story-telling, and that it would have been lovely to read more of it.

This is a superb book, and if you’re a lover of action-based tales of revenge and sentiments, this book is a must-read!

My rating for this book: 4 stars

Violence and fear, covert undercover missions as well as a bit of love finding its way through all the horror and threats. I loved it and the main characters, Sloan is sassy and quite capable of holding her own most of the time. She has had to be strong and she is determined to get her revenge, having waited a log time to bring these guys to justice for the devastation of her younger life and the losses. Baine is far more than he first appears and he too is on a mission. Lots going on to hold your interest including a few surprises along the way, I love a story that has hidden mysteries and a bit of an edge. It leads nicely into book two in this series as well which is great. I had already read the second book and enjoyed so much I went back and one clicked the rest of the series, the first 6 books are available as two box sets of three in each so it saves a little bit on cost. Definitely worth reading especially if you like Military/ Covert ops type genre.

What I like about this book is that it can be very much be adapted into a movie.
I can totally imagine the scenes on the big screen.
The assassinations, killings, his father being a huge pain
And of course, the sizzling tension between Baine and Sloan.
I like Sloan. She's the badass character who you'd cheer for even when she's already killing people (bad people, mind you). She gets her way and wouldn't back down. In that sense, she only shows her vulnerable side to the people who earned her trust. That's why, even with her tough shield, she still shows that she's definitely a woman and not a killing machine. Same can be said for Baine. Baine might not make it to my Top 10 book boyfriends but he's a worthy contender. He respects Sloan and despite the years between them, he still senses the connection they have established when they were younger.
What I like about the relationship between the two of them is that there is more to it.
They have known each other way back to where they are now.
Baine and Sloan had a past that got them through the toughest times.
They were each others' safe place.
The plot is not much different to those who follow the typical setting of some spy movies. And yet, because it's written in book form as well as the manner of storytelling the author does, you can see the story playing in your mind. You can even hear the gunshots and feel the tension present in certain moments in the story. At times, it reminds me of the movie Salt with the revenge and infiltrating enemy borders.

Ok I totally got side swiped here as I started reading this book thinking ... a nice action packed spy/crime thriller suspense somethin' somethin' with a change of scenery and not to mention hot guys, hot bods and some hot spicy romance.
Here is what I got .... SO MUCH MORE THAN FAST PACED ACTION WITH SOME REALLY DARK UNDERCURRENTS, STRONG 3 DIMENSIONAL CHARACTERS WITH A PEPPERING OF HOT GUYS AND GAL , WHO HAVE REALLY HOT BODS AND BOY SPICE IS MUY CALIENTE!!!!
The story is riveting as we are not mindlessly following a meandering cop and robbers story ...
We are crossing timeframes and boundaries (both ethical and physical), borders and even continents with a really deep storyline of a hated Crime Lord who is so sadistic and downright evil, then mix in his son and his childhood friend who go up against this pit of darkness to not only revenge their childhoods but to protect the world.
It's amazing how Ms Mitcham got so much into this book and so full with complex characters and scenarios I couldn't put it down at all and then I couldn't wait to grab the second book in the series. It has EVERYTHING you can want to read in an action based, crime suspense thriller romance, blood pumping heart thudding adrenaline releasing and don't forget hot sexy scenes and it just doesn't stop... so yup, I chewed my nails to the quick as the twists and turns kept it most entertaining and really enjoyable.
A MUST READ PEOPLE!!! NOW EXCUSE ME I AM CURRENTLY READING THE SECOND IN THE SERIES "JUSTICE MINE" ... Your next purchase BTW

I received this book from Xpresso Book Tours in return for a fair and honest review.

This is the story of two childhood friends separated by life and the different paths it lays out for them. Sloan becomes a secret agent, trained to kill and defend in so many numerous ways. Blaine is to become his father's 'heir' and take over his business. This puts them on opposite sides of the fence so it's a good job that they don't it's each of them. Of course, they do know and that's what helps make this story so interesting.

Sloan is a wonderful, capable agent who isn't afraid to play with the big boys. Because of this, she has a multitude of nicknames all concerning ice or being frozen. Blaine is cunning, conniving and deadly - of which he has improved upon as part of his training as he plays a game his father isn't aware of. So when these two cross paths again, emotions are flying high.

This is a fast-paced, steamy romantic suspense that has a lot of action. It is well-written and will take you along for the ride. Recommended for all fans of the Romantic Suspense and/or Military genres.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

“Enemy Mine” is the first book in the Base Branch series. It is a part of my favorite genre. I love the alpha male, ex-military, covert ops type of hero. I was doubly intrigued because the heroine is also an alpha type, covert ops person. Sloan and Baine were best friends for a short time when they were children. They were both on the receiving end of atrocities caused by Baine’s father. Fast forward twenty odd years, and they’re both trying to get their revenge and neither has forgotten the other.

“Enemy Mine” is well-written, easy-to-read, and fast-paced. I picked it up and didn’t put it down until the end, which I loved. My heart broke for both Sloan and Baine. Megan did a fabulous job of making me feel the same emotions as her characters. I loved the suspense of the mission. I enjoyed the setting of Africa for this story as I don’t find too many books set there. I can’t wait to read more of this series. I’m hoping for a book focusing on Law and Ryan. I really fell in love with them both.

This is a intriguing and interesting book to read and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. What you will find in this book is: drama suspense, intrigue, action, secrets, a strong feisty undercover female agent (Sloan Harris), a vengeful son (Baine Kendrick/McCord), a cruel father and warlord (Devereaux Kendrick), a CIA operative and partner (Ryan Noble), a personal vendetta, revenge, espionage, gun smuggle, drug dealers, sex slaves, interrogations, a secret government branch, betrayals, death of a monster, lust, emotional feelings, love and erotic scenes. The story-line and plot is well thought out and written. The characters are well developed with emotional feelings of revenge, lust and desires according to their personality. I would recommend this book to people that like to read a well written book with a HEA.

I know I know I could really talk about the damn story all damn day but I wont spoil any more of it for you. So besides the cliffhanger ending and the shocking twist that I still don't understand in the story it's absolutely a MUST READ!! It's one that will have you guessing what's to happen with each page turn and then for you to fall in love with all the characters will really get your mind going a mile a minute. It's one journey that will be well worth it. For some reason this is not at all what I had expected reading the synopsis and the excerpts. It's way better.

Megan Mitcham is a new to me author and I absolutely loved the first installment in the Base Branch series. Sloan is a Branch operative working to take down one of the world's worst warlords, someone she knows closely since he ordered the murder of her parents and sold her to an adoption agency before she was 10. Sloan has almost no joyful childhood memories except the time spent with Baine, the warlord's son. But now it appears that Baine is part of his father's operation so tender feelings or not Sloan will stop at nothing to put an end to their reign of terror. As secrets as exposed and with treachery around every corner Sloan and Baine will have to work together to bring down a monster. A fabulous, sexy, fast paced romance. Really enjoyed and can't wait to continue the series!

Intriquing, strong characters, bold moves, hot steamy sex in a story built with espionage, sex slave, drug and gun trafficking. What's a little heart and soul to bring things together? You'll love what Sloan stands for, she is strong and stubborn. Baine, he is one I would love to touch and be touched/protected by. Sloan is.....a lucky girl. High morals and truth will set you free. Great storyline, MM rocks it!

This was soooo good!! Wow! The author sure knows how to captive her reader. I was so engrossed in the suspense of how this mission was going to be accomplished, I completely disregarded the romance part. Not saying the sex scenes and display of love and loyalty wasn't a key factor, it was. I just liked the action and what ifs of the story more. I can't wait to read the rest of the Branch Service Series. I'm on pin and needles to find out about Law and Magdalene!

I really liked this and the thought that there's a secret government branch out there where its own members don't even know about each other. Sloan was endearing and Baine was an interesting guy, but I mostly liked their complicated relationship that fell back into place after some trust issues were resolved. Plot was good, I thought the writing style was beautiful, and overall an entertaining read full of action, dry humor, sexy times and 'awww' moments.
