Brew Ha Ha #2

Worth the Fall

Rate this book
Kasey Lane is having a bad week.

Understatement.

Her idea of success never involved losing her job, man, and apartment in 24-hours. Now, with nowhere to go and no way to pay for it anyway, Kasey decides it’s time for a fresh start, which means a new apartment, a new career, and…no men.

But as a magnet for ridiculousness and absurd brushes with the law, her start goes from fresh to stale in record time. It doesn’t help that Mr. Wrong keeps showing up during her adventures gone awry and taking over. Now, as Kasey plans her way to independence she has to decide if the only path to success is going it alone...or if maybe a partner in crime can make the journey sweeter.

This is second (third) in a series. The two prior stories are both very short (hence the first being designated #½). I highly recommend reading both before this one. They're independent of each other, but we see both couples from those stories in this one and they form a significant part of the background. So knowing them from before is pure bonus. Also, both stories are pretty good, so there's that.

I deeply enjoyed this story. Kasey is striking out on her own, though not by choice. She doesn't know exactly who she is, having subsumed her identity in her now-ex. I loved exploring her world with her and finding out who she would be right along with her. I loved that she was determined and confident (when she remembered to be) and that she was willing to try all the things that might have made her uncomfortable just to learn if she liked them. Yes, she had some growing to do, but I liked how willing she was to do it.

Part of that enjoyment is Max. He's just a complete sweetheart and I loved how uncomfortable that sometimes made him (rescuing kittens, of all things). If you can fall even a little bit for an Officer Hottie, this book is going to be like catnip. He's also part of this book's only real flaw, but I'll get to that. Meantime, get ready to swoon. Also, the banter between him and Kasey is outstanding. Oh! And I totally want the Officer Hottie Kitten Calendar...

The only real flaw in the book is that it's a bit too . . . shiny. Kasey catches a beyond-belief break in falling in with Jenna and the Brew Ha Ha crowd and they really are way too ideal to take completely seriously. And yeah, that includes Max. He's off-the-charts drool-worthy, but that's par for the central setting/friend-group. I took it in stride under my "give a book an unlikely premise if it makes the story work" exemption. If you're hard-core about realism, though, this will grate.

Anyway, this was a great distraction and fun story with awesome characters and snappy dialogue. So a solid four stars and I'm definitely picking up the next.

A note about Formatting: Fair warning: the eBook format I read has a really bad break between the end and the preview of the next book. It looks like a normal section break only with a label added. So it's a little different than the rest of the book, but there's no announcement that this is an excerpt or that you're leaving Kasey and Max behind. It's obvious relatively quickly, but that's a jarring realization, frankly.

A note about Chaste: There are a couple kisses, but Kasey is legitimately worried about finding herself before falling for a new guy so it worked that they'd get to the love thing before sex was on the table (or anywhere else).

This was a cute read even though h got the worst time of her life – failed relationship, being jobless, kicked out of the apartment, and more.

But how Kasey rose from her rock-bottom life, struggles for mediocrity and eventually getting back on track again – total chick-lit.

And romance part was cute too. A bit tame for NA, but overall, an okay read.

It was okay
description/

Writing: I liked the witty quips and the descriptions of the scenes where mishaps occurred. The mishap scenes were written very well and had me on the edge of my seat, not in fear, but in anticipation of what was going to be said or done so I could laugh.

Characters: Max, a police officer and Kasey a newly forced business owner are the main characters. There were other characters and I’m assuming there is some character history that I’m missing from previous books.

Storyline: Max and Kasey are newly single because of horrible relationships. Kasey is kind of a snob who claims to be taking time to find herself. Max is a guy who knows what he wants and is willing to get what he wants by stealth. Kasey’s propensity to fall into trouble and Max’s need to be needed are a great combination for this couple if Kasey would stop pushing him away.

There were a few times that I laughed so hard that I had tears sliding down my cheeks and it felt good. However, this story began to fall flat and became boring. I think the frustration came from the entire story being this back and forth between Kasey and Max. As soon as they decided to be together and I was beginning to perk up and looking forward to rest of the story, it ended.
description/

Intimacy Scenes: There were two kisses at the end when Max and Kasey finally decide to be together. One was very sweet. It had the potential to cause a swoon. Oh and some hand holding…again at the end.

Overall, it was all right. I might read the previous books to see if I’m missing something.

3 stars. This was a good story overall, but the hero was quite the jackass to the heroine several times throughout the story. In addition, the hero was made out to be such a catch, and the heroine....? Not so much. I honestly didn't understand why they were interested in each other. They made more sense as friends, not a couple. Still, this book had lots of funny moments, and I'll be continuing on to other books in this series.

Safe; heroine was broken up with right at the start of the story, hero also not long out of relationship, clean story so no real details give, no cheating, some OW drama from women hitting on the hero, no major OM drama, just the heroine's ex being a douche a few times.

Fun, lighthearted romance!

I really enjoy this series! The first couple books are short stories, this is the first full-length novel in the series and it was great spending more time with these characters and in this setting. I love the lighthearted feel of each story.

The book has a fun start, it sucks you in right at the get go and I had a hard time putting it down. Kasey has had a bad week. She lost her job, her apartment and her boyfriend. She stumbles upon a cute coffee shop where she meets some new friends. I actually really loved the part of the story, her making friends and finding people who actually care about her and of course meeting a great guy, Max. I loved her interactions with Max, he always seems to be around when something is going wrong for Kasey.

Overall, a fun read and one I'd recommend to anyone in the mood for a romantic-comedy.

This was such a cute story. I really, really loved it. I felt so much for the heroine and could completely relate. I laughed and smiled thru out the book. If you are looking for something steamy, this is not that book. But honestly, I get tired of steamy all the time.

And.... This book just felt very realistic. I felt like I could be Kasey at so many points!! Kasey is trying to move on from being dumped by her ass of a boyfriend. She has always relied on him and wants to be independent and find out who she is. She is determined to stay away from men. Too bad one guy ALWAYS seems to be around. :)

I loved the tension between her and Max. And their fights... I just grinned! I really didn't want it to end.

So why not a 5? I just wish we had gotten more at the end. It seemed a bit rushed. And there were several questions left opened about side characters I wish were explained. I am not sure if they are getting books in the future, but I am anxious to find out!

This one had me laughing out load. Good heavens this girl got herself in more messes. I enjoy Bria's humor and like this whole series. My favorite is still The Catching kind, but all have been fun reads. This one takes a little while to get going but it brings the whole gang together in a fun way. This is clean, with a couple sexual innuendo parts. SPOILER;(There is talk of prostitution but it's all a giant mistake. )

Kasey has had a tough week. She's lost her job, got dumped by her boyfriend, and is only a few days away from homelessness, since she was supposed to be moving in with said boyfriend. To continue that run of luck, every time something goes wrong, police officer, Max Darby, seems to be there to witness every new embarrassing moment of her life.

I loved Kasey! I probably have some bad karma coming my way because I was so amused at all of the embarrassing scrapes Kasey kept getting herself into. I loved Max. He was a perfect blend of tough, protective, funny, and sweet. I laughed out loud many times throughout the book. While there were characters living together, the book was very clean, with only kissing described.

Worth the Fall is part of the Brew Ha Ha series, yet each book can stand alone. While the books don't need to be read in order, I do recommend reading them all (I went through the whole series in two days)! They were that good!

Content: clean (some kissing, and a mix-up about prostitution)

Kasey Lane has pretty much hit rock bottom through no fault of her own. She has been laid off, her boyfriend dumps her the night before they are supposed to move in together and she's now homeless thanks to said loser... I mean boyfriend. Kasey decides from here on out she does NOT need a man to take care of her. She is going to become a new and better Kasey and eventually down the line she will find someone safe, someone who won't over take her life and tell her how to live it.

Enter Max... an alpha male who does whatever he can to take care of the people he cares about. He can't help it... it's just the way he's built. From the first moment he meets Kasey (it's hilarious by the way!) he knows that she is trouble. She just has this way of getting into situations that he doesn't know whether to laugh or be irritated. She is definitely not like any other woman he knows. These two are like oil and water around each other and you can't help but cheer them on!

I was sucked in from the very beginning and did not want to put this book down! I lost count at how many times I literally busted out laughing while reading! It was seriously SO much fun! The only thing that could have made it better would've been having them get together just a bit sooner so you could see how they were as a couple. And of course if the book wouldn't have just ended! You all know how much I hate that! Just a little bit more... that's all I wanted! ;) Hehe.

All in all it was an awesome book! I can't wait to read the next book in the series! I definitely will be checking out more books my Bria Quinlan/Caitie Quinn!

And of course I can't forget my casting choices! This one was a bit hard because there was zero description of the heroine so I had to go with who I felt would fit best for myself. Hehe. What do you think?!

Okay this one was a bit different from the previous one, for one thing it was longer XD

I'm really starting to fall for Caitie Quinn, her books are just that amazing and wonderful, as I said this one was a bit different, it was proper sized book, not a short story like the previous two. But it was just as adorable.

I liked all the characters in it, even asshole Jason, he gave the readers something to laugh at: Him, especially with the car assault and the childish indignation in Facebook. But I liked Kasey and Jenna and Ben and Max and Jayne and Hailey and Dane and John and Abby ... did I cover them all? I guess I did. Anyway all of them were wonderful and I so wanna go to The Brew. I liked in here how the author showed us the relationship results after the first two short stories, Ben and Jenna were so adorable, especially when he's always humoring her and the shoes in the kitchen thing.

Well, Kasey had since the beginning of the book the worst luck ever, it just jumped from one bad thing to the other, but what was the best thing that might have happened to her was going to The Brew it practically saved all her problems, she found new friends, new place to live and started her own company and found a guy she's attracted to and he's attracted to her. Her interactions with him were so adorable and they gave the vibe that said we have a chemistry going on but our hands are off. I hated the arrest thing with the lousy cop and Max's reaction after he helped her out of it, but the after after reaction was the best, and it was typical of them to get together after getting bad at each other.

Overall, *thumbs up*

4.5 stars. I loved this book. I loved this book so much that I've preordered the next one, not because this isn't a standalone, it is, but because I'm just hoping that this couple that I fell in love with will also be a part of book #3. This book was so funny but also romantic and quirky at the same time. It follows Kasey, a girl with a little black cloud following her around. She loses her job, her boyfriend, her apartment and just about everything else in her life in the course of a few days. This book takes us on her journey as she tries to rite the ship, put her self esteem back together and, although she's not looking for it, find a new love along the way.

This author snuck the hero into this book under our (and Kasey's) noses -- I had no idea they would be the H/h, but boy was I rooting for them at the end. And Authoress Quinn needs to realize that some of her female readers are at a certain age where if they laugh too hard certain physical problems arise. The scene at the gym with Kasey on the treadmill was classic.

Not much steam but more than made up for in great writing and a great story. Bring on Heidi and #3.

It has to be the sweetest romance I have read in some time. I am so glad the ever amazing Nadia recommended it to me!

If you are expecting some hands-on, romantic action to go on over hear, please look away. This isn't an erotica and thank God for that!
It was lovely how the two leads slowly begin to get to know each other and like each other. The progression of their romance seems so simple and realistic. And the way they first meet each other! So darn funny, adorable and memorable. <3

Now for the critical evaluation. The writing is gripping enough that I didn't get bored once. The plot progression is logical. The characters are unbelievably adorable and amazing. But therein lies my issue too. They were too perfect at times. Not at least one f-word? (A clean romance deserves a clean review.) I doubt anyone can be that perfect that none of the cuss words ever figure even remotely in the daily vocabulary.

The characters themselves are quite realistic physically. The hero isn't the usual 6 foot hunk so if you have a love for tall male specimens, you might want to reconsider. Actually, read it despite that. This is a sunny read that should amuse all kinds of readers.

Okay I can't lie, it was cute okay? And fluffy. And rainbows and unicorns. But.

Kasey. How can anyone act like such a klutz at her age? She got on my nerves on multiple occasions.

Jenna. She's awful. How can anyone want to be friends with her? She has to get into everyone's business. Kasey keeps going how cute Jenna is, but she's not, just no.

Oh and I forgot to add, Kasey was let go of her job because of the hard economy, but her behavior throughout the book made me convinced that it was clearly her fault. No sympathies for you hun.

I liked the guy though. The other characters were okay as well. Basically it would have been a better book without Kasey and Jenna.

Bria Quinlan writes funny, rather light romances. The longer ones try to be more complex.

I skipped quite a few paragraphs, but it was just me and my current mood that wanted only a romance.

Meh. This was a sweet romance about Kasey and Max. But something about it just didn't sit right with me.

Kasey is having a bad week. She loses her job, gets dumped by her boyfriend and is homeless after she cancels her lease to move in with said jerk boyfriend. And Max is there with a front row seat to witness it all. Max is a cop and keeps getting called to the scene when she has minor crises. I had a hard time liking Max. I think the author was going for a playful/teasing vibe with their banter but I thought it was mean spirited. Max makes Kasey feel like it is somehow HER fault that all this crap keeps happening to her. Like she is a mess who attracts chaos. It felt like he was kicking her when she was down with his teasing and attitude.

So Max is a really great guy, but Kasey just *just* got out of a relationship she didn't even realize was bad. How about you give her a minute to get herself together?

In the end, I wound up liking Max more than I had, but I wish their courtship had gone differently. They were a good match, I just didn't care for the way they came together.

This one was a miss for me.

Contemporary romance

This book had me laughing out loud. Hilarious characters in ridiculous situations. Max. Is. Adorable. I loved him, even if he was bossy. ;) Kacey deserved a little happiness in her life after the rough few years she's had and I loved that Max was the one to bring it to her.. Their relationship was a lot of fun. This is a well written, contemporary, romance series. There were a couple of swear words. Definitely no bedroom scenes and only a few kisses.....I do have to add a "But" though.....The only thing that frustrates me about this series, because otherwise I've really enjoyed it, is the casual references to sex....or to who is living with who...or has been with who. I know that a lot of society unfortunately looks at it this way but to me it's something sacred and special between a married man and woman who are in love and eternally devoted to one another. It makes me so sad that it's thrown into casual conversation like it's no big deal. I have been disappointed in that. Because of it I would call it an Adult read.

I stayed up until 2:30 this morning reading this book, when I couldn't stay awake for another minute I went to bed, then I may have woken up at 5:15 am to finish up this book (and then went back to sleep). It was super funny. Like belly laugh funny.

Be cautious of the treadmill! (honestly, some of the funniest words ever!)

Max is just too cute and believe me when I say he is exactly like all police officers. (these things I know)

AND seriously, Kasey Lane is the best name ever. She is awesome and smart and is always doing something that lands her in a bad situation, but it is not her fault.

I only wished the cover was move in-tune with the content ... but that is me being me and is no way a reflection of the words. Because the words were totally entertaining and completely worth the read.

This one made me laugh. Out loud. A lot. And that doesn't happen much.
I'm not usually a reader of rom com, but I enjoyed this one so much. The characters were fun, the situations were a little crazy sometimes, but the main characters voice was hilarious to read.
Content: Pretty clean. I think there were a couple mild swear words. Most of the characters have significant others that they are living with without being married. But there are no sex scenes, not really even sexual innuendo.

Worth the read

Super light and quick read that got me out of my reading slump. Can't wait to read the other books from the Brew Ha Ha series.

Favorite lines:

"And yet, just like anytime you leave something behind, it all felt very bittersweet."

"Learning to make my own way in the world was one thing. Knowing when to let someone more capable do what I wanted done anyway was completely another."

"I was the boss of me. I took ownership of my actions. I was not valued by who was standing next to me."

“You know what I mean, Jenna. Not every great guy is the right guy for you.”

“Just make sure you know what you really want and not what you think you’re supposed to want before you go chasing anything else.”

There were parts I really liked about this book- the chemistry, the dialogue, the story.. it was quirky but it completely worked for me, right up until the story cut off at the end. I felt like immediately after the sort of climax of the story, it just stopped. Still a good book though, but definitely needed more.

A delightfully fun romcom story. There were times when I was literally laughing at the situations Casey found herself in. The over thinking, the need for independence but not knowing what that means, it was cute clean story that kept me captivated.

Is it hard to decide upon a season and stick to it?
You read it is early spring only to find out a few pages later that it is late summer, and cold, and... oh, where are we now? There were some other minor (in my opinion) errors, but this kind just aggravate me the most.

Get past that and you’ll get immersed into a funny story, where Kasey seems to jump from one mistake to another, where misfortunes seem to follow her everywhere, everyday. Will it ever stop? Will she be able to keep her newly made friends ot will they be scared away soon? And what about the cute officer that happens to witness every mishap Kasey finds herself in? And what should she do with the growing attraction toward Max? Can she survive on her own or maybe letting him bein charge will finally make things easier?

I found a new favorite author. I love it when I stumble upon a great book, but I also feel a bit foolish that I've been missing out on great authors this whole time. Why haven't I heard about Ms. Quinlan? Which rock have I been hiding in?
Anyways, Kasey has had a string of unfortunate events fall upon her and the irony, there's this guy that is witness to all of these embarrassing moments. Max is a law enforcer that keeps on getting the calls when Kasey falls flat on her face. They don't particularly want to fall for each other, She- because she felt so controlled by the ex and wanted to be her own woman and He- because he doesn't want "crazy" in his life and Kasey, with all of her bad luck, just screams that, and more.
Now this is #2 in a series and yes it can stand alone. I actually didn't feel like I've missed out on the story line because I didn't know the back story of some of the characters. But yes, after reading this, I want to read all of them. The writer did a fantastic job helping me feel invested in the characters.
This is a very witty book. Sometimes the tone is a bit sarcastic, but it's all in good fun. I also love her descriptions and analogies. It's just an over all feel good, laugh out loud read.
The book does have some insinuation that people are sleeping/living together but it is very clean. No graphic scenarios and even Kasey and Max's kiss was very sweet.
Just one warning, if you start this book, you might have to clear your schedule because you wouldn't want to put it down. :)

Sweet, clean, and funny. She gets downsized out of her job, loses her apartment, and fortunately gets dumped by her jerk of a boyfriend in two days. Then a cop has the nerve to smirk at her and tell her to behave! Bad week!
