About the author

NEIL T. ANDERSON is founder and president of Freedom in Christ Ministries. He was formerly the chairman of the Practical Theology Department at Talbot School of Theology. He holds five degrees from Talbot, Pepperdine University and Arizona State University and Arizona State University and has authored several bestselling books on spiritual freedom, including Victory Over the Darkness and The Bondage Breaker.

While there is a lot of good information in this textbook, it was very difficult to read past the introduction. In it Dr. Anderson states, "hurting Christians had only one thing in common: None of them knew who they were in Christ, nor did they understand what being a child of God fully meant." Reading this as a father who had recently lost his four year-old son was hurtfull. The author dismissed the pain and grief as misunderstanding God, as if it were my fault.

The book does consider many important truths that Christians need to know or be reminded about in their Christian walk, especially in their struggles. I was not a big fan of the many pre-formulated prayers in the book, although the prayers as such had good content.

Part one was an excellent explanation of how Christian psychologists integrate psychology (natural revelation) with theology (special revelation) to get an accurate picture of man. Part two explains his counseling method "Steps to Freedom in Christ" with which I have some reservations (confessing ancestral sins, etc.).

I have always loved reading any of Neil T Anderson books. When I was a new believer I was encouraged to read his books to help set me free from my past conflicts and hurts. I also had a number of counselling session with my pastor and his wife years ago. The books I have read previously victory over darkness, bondage breaker, freedom from addiction, Who I am in Christ have been extremely encouraging and helpful. I have just found discipleship counselling in the bookshop I manage from our late pastor. Looking forward to reading it and being encouraged.

Good way to counsel unbelievers coming to Christ or those who are struggling to be free of the past/habitual sin or spiritual depression. I would like to see a more reformed version, maybe send this to Geneva or have it take a vacation in Scotland, but it really is a very helpful resource.

Christ came to free his people. He sits over all principalities and powers. This book teaches the reader how to fight those principalities and powers with the light of Christ in the minds of those trapped by sin and Satan. He describes spiritual warfare and that part is a little startling, but necessary, especially in our po-mo reason obsessed world.

There has been some hokey methods of spiritual warfare put out on the net recently. This is more Postmil and places all power in the name that is above all names. In Christ we are victorious.

Adam fell and his mind was broken as a result and he thought he could hide from an omniscient and omnipresent God.

This book is not passive, but an offensive against those things that keep us from putting on the mind of God.

AMAZING resource! I went through the Steps to Freedom about 5 years ago and recently felt led to take someone else through them. I found this book before doing so and WOW, my brain hurts after reading, but in a good way. It's full of so much great, biblical, spirit-led information. As a ministry leader for a women's ministry, this is a priceless tool. I encourage any ministry leader, pastor, encourager, mentor, counselor, etc. to invest in this book.

Anderson takes the techniques and theory behind his well-known The Bondage Breaker and shows how they can be applied in a clinical or pastoral setting. A great deal of the book is given over to practical advice, offering counselors a better understanding of how to actually apply the BB teachings in practice.

One of the more frightening things about this book is it reminded me of "From Dusk till Dawn..." You know you start off with a story about a bank robbery and halfway into the movie BAM! Vampires! This seems like a regular book until suddenly BAM! Exorcisms!
