After checking out another manga by this artist (see my review for Kyou no Kira-kun), I decided to see what else this mangaka made, and I found this one.
Now, I normally am not one to like teacher x student stuff. Often it is inappropriate and I just don't think it is right for a teacher to start something with his students. But for some reason I just can't seem to stop reading this one. Maybe it has to do with how the romance is treated, how it is done. There are some very sensual kisses, but that is it. Well, it truly is adorable to see how Uni totally flushes red and even becomes flustered, but not much happens. The romance is really pure and innocent, and also the teacher is pretty stand-offish. You can clearly see he wants to do more, but he respects the boundaries.
Of course something happens near the end of this volume, I won't spoil what, but it will change quite a bit of how one sees this relationship. I am totally fine with this though, I think it is pretty nice of him and I was just awwwing when it happened. :)
Now for the characters. We have a girl named Uni. She is the prodigy of the school, she is pretty stoic, but if you get to know her better, you find out she is still a girl inside, a girl who will squeal and swoon at the sight of hot boys, a girl with strange hobbies and a girl who at times makes some pretty weird movies (seriously, what the hell is up with this girl). At times I was a bit tired of her stoicness, and I wish she would lighten up more, or that she would get rid of her boringness. Because, she is at times a bit boring. But then something would happen and we would see another side to her. Uni is a great girl and it is brilliant to see her change as the story progresses. Also I love that she is so tsundere about things. You just don't expect a stoic girl to suddenly lash out. :)
The teacher. While I did like him for most of the time, I at times was annoyed with the way he treated Uni. Often he treated her nice, but a lot of times he treated her as a child, and while it is true, she is a child, if you are in something like this with another person it isn't nice to call them a child or to degrade them. Then there is one thing, he smokes. I don't like characters who smoke, I absolutely loathe cigarettes/cigars/etc., not only because it stinks, but also due to other reasons. Sure, characters look sexy, but I can just imagine the smell, and I can't imagine that people actually like it. The only thing it does to me is cause me to cough and several other stuff. :| So I hope that our teacher will soon stop smoking or that his smoking habit gradually fades to the background.
Of course we have love rivals, and that makes the book even better. Especially considering a certain person's past. :)
And naturally there is some drama. But that is to be expected, after all this is a series about a teacher and a student loving each other. And drama just comes naturally with that, at least that is what I have seen in the few stuff I read.
The art is gorgeous and beautiful. The kissing scenes, and the romantic scenes are absolutely lovely to look at.
All in all, I will be continuing with this series. I probably won't write a review for all of them, though I might write a review when I find the last volume and read that.
Would I recommend this manga/volume? Yes. Yes, I would. It is romantic, it is fun and it is cute.
Student-teacher relationship with a super hot teacher, need I say more? I really enjoyed the live action movie so had to check out the original series. The first volume is a little chaotic but I'm a sucker for this dynamic
He's a substitute English/homeroom high school teacher. She's the only girl in class who isn't falling all over herself to get his attention. Yuni can acknowledge that Sakurai-sensei is beautiful, but she keeps her cool. Why bother falling for a flirt who's leaving soon. But when he singles her out for extra English lessons, the added attention weakens her resolve.
Fits neatly in the falling-in-love-with-your-teacher trope. She's sixteen. He should know better. While I sometimes enjoy stories along these lines, I probably won't follow this one through. It's relying heavily on expected scenarios and lacks a certain emotional depth.
High school girl Yuni ends up in a relationship with her home room teacher for some reason. This teacher is super sleazy and has lots of students hanging of him like he's a pimp or something. Then another home room teacher (woman this time) targets Yuni with a doll fetish and threatens to expose them if Yuni doesn't become her personal dress up doll....
I think this is supposed to be humor but it's just creepy. IMHO both teachers need to lose their licenses and get registered on specific offender lists. How is it ok in any capacity?
Sooo, another reviewer had mentioned something about a twist at the end that makes the story ok, and so I thought, "Maybe the teacher is actually a boy genius and he and the girl are the same age?" That is not the twist. Actually the twist makes it worse bc it hinges on being hypocritical with a heavy dose of mysogeny (imagine my disappointment when I found out the mangaka is a woman).
Anywayzzzz even if you are like "well it's just a fantasy story, whatevs" and suspend your better judgement bc you are a grown-ass adult and are allowed to do that, the characters have such stupid personalities that they keep punching holes in your list of mental arguments about why you should root for their forbidden romance. The girl's entire personality is being tsundere, and that is unfortunate because tsundere will turn any character into an emotionally unregulated four year old. That also made me lose respect for the love interest, bc whyyyyy would you risk everything to be with a girl who acts like this??? Like even if he wasn't the spitting image of Michael Jackson in looks and deeds, and even if they were both having an age-appropriate relationship, she is a costco-size pack of red flags!! And so is he! If I had a crush that did literally any of the things these two do, it would be enough for me to break it off.
L'ho comprato perché avevo letto un'altra serie di Rin Mikimoto e mi era piaciuta.
Questa invece parte male. Lei studentessa; lui professore di inglese, fumatore incallito. Mammamia, ha sempre la sigaretta in bocca! BLEAH!
No, balle! Son dieci, solo che in Italia hanno interrotto la pubblicazione. Dannati!
Periodic reminder to check the synopsis before I but the damn book, even if it is Y109. Teacher student nope (unless it's Flower of Life in which case all bets are off).
One of those shoujo manga where you’re left baffled as to why the two leads like each other, let alone are risking so much to date. It’s not bad, just sort of meh.
The message of this book probably is that love has no age limit, but I wasn't that interested in this message. The art is okay, but I won't probably go past volume 1 of this book.
Ahh I'm such a sucker for student X teacher romances, it's one of the best kinds of forbidden loves, never fails to always give me that "doki doki" type of feeling.
It's been awhile since I watched the movie (which from what I remember, it was super good, definitely recommend), so I thought it might be time to finally check out the manga, and it does not disappoint. The characters are so ridiculous, but have their soft and quiet moments, and I love how over-the-top the drama is, I literally started laughing outloud during certain scenes.
Cannot wait to continue and see what else is in store for these two!
Read the translated manga on the net. The story, characters, and their arc is highly inappropriate. The illustration / drawing is average.
The film adaptation 'Kinkyori Renai' ('Close Range Love', 2014) is scripted better and redoes this awful contraption into a slightly more digestible version: the teacher is shown as ethical (and then conscious of the ethical challenge), the girl is studious and purposeful while being emotionally repressed, and the girl's guardian is a sensible, protective adult.
OMG this manga is unbelievable!! I've read the whole thing and watched the movie in one day!! Loved it!! We all fell in love with a teacher at some point! And Sakurai-Sensei is just...omg so cool, hot, sexy, adorable... damn this is so awesome!!!
definitely seeing similar style here like her other book, Kyou no Kira-Kun, but so far it's not bad and so I think I'll continue with the book and most probably start falling in love with it later on
