It’s been three and a half years since Sam went back in time, and a new historical tragedy approaches.
A powerful telepathic Traveler has kidnapped the queen of Sam’s nation and is holding an entire desert capital under his mental control.
Can Sam learn the secrets of the system in time to protect those he holds dear?
Second Chance Swordsman 5 continues the best-selling LitRPG/Progression Fantasy series by Jakob Tanner, author of Tower Climber and Arcane Kingdom Online. The story contains RPG mechanics, stats, and ranks as a form of power progression.

Beyond that, Jakob can be found at all the usual places:
Queen Alice of Resfall had been kidnapped by the evil time traveller and telepath Dante Sylvaris, who was also holding the whole Kingdom of Rialto in thrall through his mind magic. Furthermore news of Prince Mateo's disappearance had reached Sam's ears, and he knew he just had to go and save his queen who he was falling in love with. Obviously he travelled with Klara and Toby, his best friends, Edgar the guildmaster, Captain Mordecai and their trusted desert guide Rayna Duskrider. On the way to Opali though they had to cross the treacherous Akari desert, through which they travelled by night, as the heat during the day was unbearable, and they trained hard and Sam faced other dungeon gates which he knew he had to tackle before arriving in Opali. The battle of Rialto where Sam and his colleagues face Dante Sylvaris, Sam's nemesis, is a massive battle where they all had to use all their powers, and were tested to their limits. And even after all their travails Sam knew that their biggest battle was yet to come when they would be forced to face the Demon King and the Black Gates. So though they had many good things to look forward to in their near future, as romance was in the air, they dared not let themselves relax as the whole of Westria depended on them and Sam had been given a second chance in life by the Goddess in order to change the course of the disastrous past. I loved this action packed book, love the loyalty of Sam's team, the camaraderie, the amazing power they were all unlocking, and the romance which is a bit of fresh air amidst the battles. Cannot wait for the next exciting adventure.
After being sent back in time years before the apocalypse, Sam has used his knowledge to prevent the atrocities that occurred in his previous life. He wasn’t the only one who was sent back though. A Traveler with mind control powers seems to be working against him and has abducted Queen Alice. Sam and his friends set off to rescue her. They will need to get even stronger to rescue her and have the world in the best shape possible to prevent the apocalypse!
This has been a really fun regression litrpg! Sam is driven by his knowledge of the future. It is nice to have the different companions along for the ride. My only complaint would be that this one hardly had any chill parts like the Christmas parties in the previous stories. Steve Campbell does a great job with this story!
Ohhhh! Man! Soooooooo friggen good! And yeah, book 5 landed on my top favorite reads for the year! I just loved gettin' reacquainted with all my friends. Sam the blood mage and what doesn't he do with his blood, Toby the water mage who surfs on a conjured wave, Klara and her boots the melee fighter, and guildmaster, Edgar with his druidic ability. As they fight, level and go off to rescue Alice their Queen and close friend. Yeah, you better believe that their trip is long and arduous!
Love the series and can't wait for Books 6-8, but I would be remiss not to call the author out on the chronic abuse of McGuffins. Not going to go into any further details because it'd be spoiler heavy, but just know that this book is the worst offender so far when it comes to the use of McGuffins and self-defeating choices by the villains.
Sam and the rest of the group have to face against their worst foe yet and of course the adventures that ensue causes lots of intriguing situations, level ups and lots of magic action scenes. Tanner has done well with this series and as the close of the plot gets closer I just enjoy each book more.
I'm really enjoying this series, by the end of each book I dread that it will be the last in the series. The flow and pacing are great and the characters are still evolving (both personally and magically) which keeps the story fresh.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and engaging. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and entertaining. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book and series are definitely worth checking out.
This was an awesome addition to the second chance swordsman series! Way to knock itnojt of the park again Jakob! I couldn’t put it down from the moment I started reading it. Anyone looking for something to sink their time into should read anything by Jakob Tanner! I can’t wait for your next book.-Kenny
