Throughly enjoyed this book series!I found myself looking forward to the treat of reading on each night, looking with anticipation what will we find next. I am looking forward to the next installment with great excitement. What a wonderful series looking into the lives of the brave people of England, the sacrifices they made doing without that we take for granted today, but most of all the fear and worry about the love ones protecting their country.
I was delighted when I learned that Barbara’s War (The Resolution) had been released. I read the first two books in the series and enjoyed them immensely. So I was waiting for this one. Throughout the series I found it easy to immerse myself in Barbara’s family circle and get involved in their lives. Although I wasn’t raised in a mansion, the comfort and security of her home seemed familiar and cheering. I liked where I was when I was in their world so that made it easy to slip into the story and loose myself. The previous book in the series ended with a dramatic event and I wanted to know what happened next. This book also builds to a dramatic conclusion due to events happening during the war and Barbara’s ongoing dilemma regarding her suitors. Readers may have thought that Barbara’s love life had been sorted out when John went to Canada and she married Alec but John re-appears at a time when her life is once more in a turmoil and it isn’t clear what might happen. I didn’t know until the end of the story how things would turn out for her. Barbara’s War is a gentle story with some very poignant and tense moments as well as the odd surprise and humour thrown in. Barbara and her family circle will linger in my mind – I was really caught up in their story. I can easily recommend this series to anyone who enjoys love stories and historical fiction. It’s well worth a read.
I was often bothered by Barbara through all three books, I think its because her reactions or lack of were off. Just not quite right, but I believe it to be the era and the British way. If something bad happens, have a cuppa. I won't give anything away, so I can't say much more other than I recommend it. Will I read any more by this author, maybe not but glad I found this series.
I absolutely can't put these books down. All of Fenella's books are grand get started today and live in England during the war. You will learn and feel so much of many emotions.
I read all three books in the series. Although some of the plot and the character's actions and reactions seemed unrealistic, the story kept my interest.
Prior and during WWII. Three book series. Excellent read about a young girl at her youth with a sad family life and what she does to change her future. Barbara is forced to seek out her grandparent's after she is no longer wanted at home.
