This is actually a bilingual book. Its title has an English part (at the top right of the cover) "An Introductory Handbook to Japan and Its People". It has small paragraphs on several different subjects about Japan like family, education, household budget, social security, religions, japanese language, festivals, government, industry, social problems, and so on.
For people studying Japanese (like me), it is a very good way to practice and/or to develop my reading skills and my vocabulary. The pages on the left are in Japanese and the pages on the right are the corresponding texts in English. So it makes it really useful for intermediate students like me.
