It's feared exotic dancer Zoe Lawlor has been kidnapped and Private Investigator Dev Haskell finds himself on the case. Years back he knew her as Twink, the hottest girl in high school with pink hair. Now, she's vanished after a supposed photo shoot with Tom Cruise and it's left up to Dev to find her. He enlists the help of failed NFL tight end, Luscious Dixon who suffers from an anger management 'disability'. From there things seem to plummet downhill. Faricy is at it again, this time with a zany short mystery that's at once hilarious and somewhat chilling. Twinkle Toes is yet another fast paced crazy tale from Minnesota's Master of the Bizarre, Mike Faricy.
I was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, I still live there as well as in Dublin, Ireland. I've been a soldier, freelance journalist, tended bar, sold designer cakes, owned a painting and decorating company along with a number of other schemes and scams. If that doesn't offend you I also play bagpipes with the Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band. All my books stand alone, read them in whatever order you wish. They are filled with the sort of oddballs we are all curious about, but wisely, prefer to keep at a distance. None of my characters will be saving the world from terrorism, international banking conspiracies or coups to take over the government. Rather, they inhabit a world just below the surface of polite society, characters with one foot on either side of the law. The circumstances they find themselves in are usually due to bad decisions, but bad decisions lead to interesting stories. They serve not so much as an example but as a warning to us all. Thanks for taking the time, happy reading.
Colette calls Dev says she thinks her friend Twink aka Zoe has been kidnapped and wants to meet it’s with him. He meets Colette she can’t call the police they are looking for Zoe for assaulting their landlord. She has a photo shoot with Tom Cruise but not the star it’s Kruise a car dealership guy. They sometimes do modeling but they dance at Nasty’s. Zoe is working on her doctorate in Elizabethan Literature; she has an 18 month program over in England in the fall.
Dev Haskell was still asleep when his cellphone went off in the front pocket of his jeans where he had left them on the floor. He had much rather be back asleep in the bed next to Heidi, but the woman on the cell phone just keeps talking. She gradually makes inroads into his sleep fogged brain and he slowly realizes a girl he knew from high school long ago could be in real trouble.
Zoe Lawlor, who he knew as “Twink,” was his date for the Prom. A date that, all things considered, went surprisingly well and ended in an unexpected way. 48 hours later she was gone and he has not heard of or seen her since. He soon learns that she is wanted by the cops for another matter which means the police can’t be involved according to her friend. Among other things, Twink was doing some modeling work for a guy who, though he paid well, was apparently into some shady stuff of his own. Collette is sure something is very wrong and Dev Haskell agrees to work the case. A case that will get more and more complicated as he moves around the St. Paul area.
This is a very good short story clearly written to interest the reader in the several Dev Haskell novels. It works for that as well as well as on its own as a solidly good read tale. Twinkle Toes: Dev Haskell Short Mystery features an occasionally slightly sarcastic private investigator, a damsel in distress, and plenty of suspects in a fun read.

Mike Faricy’s Twinkle Toes is an engaging, entertaining novella. His descriptive prose was succinct and well written. I was quickly immersed in the hunt for Zoe (aka Twink) that Dev embarked upon. The back story and description of Zoe (pink hair and all) was what hooked me to begin with. I needed Twink to be okay!
I loved the description of Carl…with it so detailed; I was able to visualize Carl: “Although I’d never net Carl, I recognized him. A local thug, wanna-be criminal mind and in general an abject failure….He had a tooled black leather belt sporting a large brass belt buckle in the shape of a sheriff’s badge. A silky black sport coat was draped over his T-shirt. His biceps made the sleeves of the coat look like stuffed sausages and did little to hid his shoulder holster.”
And so as not to forget, the character names certainly provided a couple of chuckle worthy moments: Tom Kruise (aka ‘The Commander’) and Luscious Dixon – ex NFL player with anger management issues.
Mr. Faricy’s writing style had me hooked almost immediately; leading me to the desire to pick up a full length novel from this writer and give that a go.
Twinkle Toes is a short story by Mike Faricy feature a private detective, Devlin Haskell. An ex from his school days has gone missing from a modelling job with a Tom Kruise, and it's Haskell's job to find her.
I think it was a pretty interesting story, though a little bit too short for me. The plot is just a bit cliche. Though, the author has some very original portions to add. I think that the thing I like most about the book is the characters. Though some of them have stereotypical characteristics, they all have fairly unique personalities and I thought them to be somewhat interesting. However, the book was a bit too short to get to know them properly. Another thing I really liked about the story was the writing style. There are portions of humour and places where you can simply feel the personality of the book. It's pretty much a standalone book; the plot and characters are introduced well enough so that you're not missing out on anything important or information necessary to the plot.
Overall, I liked it a lot and I am definitely going to read more of the author's work in future! Five stars!
I "bought" a copy of this from Amazon.com.au when it was free. These are just my honest thoughts.
Twinkle Toes, A Dev Haskell Short Mystery by Mike Faricy
I read this short story (and it was short -- I read it in just a few minutes) in order to get an introduction to the writing style of Mike Faricy and to his character, Dev Haskell. That proved, I believe to be a good idea as I found Faricy's writing style easy to read and entertaining and found his character, Dev Haskell, to be the sort of flawed but likeable character that is easy to connect with.
So, after reading this little gem in which Haskell is hired to find a missing woman, who also just happens to be his high school prom date who he hasn't seen since the day after the prom, I'm ready to move onto the first novel in the series.
This was a great read. Quick but very enjoyable. If you are new to the Devlin Haskell series this is a great place to start. It will capture your attention and leave you wanting more. If you have read other Dev books this is a great short story to get your fix of Dev and his antics. This was well written, short, sweet and too the point. This could have been written into a full length novel but was great as a short story. I would highly recommend this to both new readers and those who are already fans.
Dev Haskell gets a call in the middle of the night. His high school prom date, he found out later she only asked him on a dare, had been kidnapped. Her friend Coleen was the caller.
She'd gone for a photo shoot for a car dealer named Tom Kruise, he traded on that name, and hadn't been seen since.
A beat down gets Haskell to bring in Lucious Dixon, an ex-football player, as back-up in the hunt for Zoe Lawler.
My firsr experience with P.I> Dev Haskell. There will be more
I really like this mystery by Faricy. It was short, sweet and to the point. The mystery was enough to grab you and make you want to keep reading. This is part of a series, but have not red the rest of the series so can't comment on that. This one was a pleasant read.
J. Robert Ewbank author "John Wesley, Natural Man, and the Isms" "Wesley's Wars" and "To Whom It May Concern"
Very good novella about a 50's/60's style detective hired to look for his first one nighter from high school. This has comedy, suspense and I read this quickly this morning and going to read the next story in the set I have on my Kindle App.
Merged review:
Twinkle Toes & Dollhouse I reviewed separated by the book listed for the author.
Fun little novella, involving Midwest PI Dev Haskell, an exGF turned selfie model, an former NFL linebacker with anger management issues, and a sleazy car dealer with an all too recognizable name.
