Scott's Solace

Rate this book
When Jessica left the farm to start over in the city, she had her future all laid out. Too bad her plan for success went from super awesome to complete crap in twenty seconds, and all because of that stupid lightning catcher, Scott Ares. He looked a lot different from their small town days, all suited up and stuff, and it’s not necessarily a bad look…

The only thing standing between Scott and his plan to destroy his father is Jessica Freaking Solak. The nerd he knew then and the tattooed motorcycle riding chick in front of him now couldn’t be more different. Still, she’s in the way and has gotta go. Although, it shouldn’t cause too much drama if he kissed her once or twice first.

This is a standalone novella following the Gormly Clan.

This was good. The read goes quickly for a novella you start get absorbed into the story and than as quickly as you started you have a smile on your face for the ending.

Scott is angry and wanting revenge. Revenge for his childhood and the treatment of his mom. Revenge for how his dad was to him. A dad that he never knew who he even was until he was older. This first gave him the determination and will to succeed. Than it morphed into pure anger and hatred. It wasn’t until a childhood friend comes into the picture at a house auction that he begins to change. Change for the better. Jessica has had such a hard time for awhile but she was always surrounded by love. Now she wants to prove herself.

Her and Scott join forces and at first they are indifferent. As things go along and they get to see who each other really is we have a undeniable attraction. One that really has you smile. She helps Scott see things different and in the end changes him for the better. This is their story of how Jessica and Scott come together, Scott changes from angry and bitter to someone who welcomes love and wants to be happy.

Both characters draw you to them with their circumstances and their attitudes. At first Scott will put you off but after awhile you will root for him to do the right thing. Jessica comes off rough at first but after you get to read more about her you hope that she succeeds in both the house and Scott. I enjoyed how the author had them both find support in each other even though they had different views at first. I also loved how at the end Scott had changed his views and opened his eyes to what revenge and hatred can turn you into.

A sweet book of love and change.

My Review

So I haven't read anything by this author before, but I really liked this one. Yes, I know, I started with book 4, but I promise there's nothing missing. It's a quick, fun read with humor and romance, and a wonderful story of finding yourself, even when you think it's lost :) Jessica and Scott grew up together, they were best friends. But Scott disappeared, Jess lost her family, and they both have some things that they need to let go. Or maybe hold on to. :)

Jess is fun and sweet and hard working. I liked her a lot. She was willing to pull Scott kicking and screaming if she had to, to make sure things worked out. She wasn't gunna loose everything to his crazy self. And when he treats her bad, she makes sure he knows it, and made sure that he realized just what he was gunna lose. I loved that about her. Smart girl :) And though she's lost, she hasn't given up, or given in. Death hits everyone and sometimes you just have to cherish the nice memories, instead of holding on to the bad ones.

Scott, well, he came off as an ass in the beginning. I thought he was a total douche, but thanks to Jess, and boy did she work at it, but she finally got through to him. He wanted to buy and remodel a house just to show his father some vengeance. But Scott has so many chips on his shoulders. I mean big ones too. And he tries to outbid Jess at an auction for the house. He doesn't know what he's getting into, and neither does she, but he talks her into being his partner. And like all partnerships, there's good and bad from both. LOL

This is a sweet story, with lots of fun romance, some cool things about Lightning Catchers I didn't know about. And I need to read the first few books because I think I am probably missing out on some good stuff! LOL I loved the writing style and I am now a fan! I think you guys should check this one out!! 4.5 PAWS!!

Yup done it again!! Reading books out of order, make for continuity roulette!!! LOL

It's a quick, fun read with snarky humour, romance, and surviving the loss of family. Jessica and Scott grew up together and were best friends. But Scott disappeared, Jess then lost her family, and they both have some serious issues which need to be addressed. Each have their own unique way of dealing with things but realise that they make a pretty awesome team!

Jess is fun, hard-working and a bit of a rebel. She was willing to work with Scott if she had to, to make sure things worked out. When he treats her in a shoddy manner, she makes sure he knows it and just what he has lost. Scott, well the nicest thing I can say about him was that he finally stopped being an ass-hat!!! He wanted to buy and remodel a house just to get revenge on his father and rub his nose in his own hard-won success.

Great characters who worked well together and who you could empathise with. Whilst the story does have supernatural elements, they are not the be all and end all of the story, which remains at heart a great rom-com.

Now got to go find the others in the series which I've not read yet and plug the holes!!!

Scott's Solace is book four in the series. I have not read the other 3 books, however, this book did fairly well as a standalone. There was some backstory that probably would not have been as confusing if I had read the other books, but it was still a good read. Scott and Jessica are a great example of kids that grow apart and meet later as adults. They think they remember how the other was from back then and are surprised when the other person does not act the way they remember them acting before. Despite some very large obstacles in their path to HEA, they do manage to overcome them by working together. Scott has found his solace in Jessica and he didn't even know he was looking for it. Enjoy!

Scott’s Solace was an easy, fast read. There were some elements to the story I wasn’t too sure about and I don’t know if it had something to do with the fact that I haven’t read any of the other book linked to this one. For example, it took a bit for me to figure out what the paranormal elements of the story were.
However, I did enjoy the banter between the main characters and found their interactions quite amusing, and fun. I’d definitely like to pick up another book by this author since I happen to enjoy her writing style and her lifelike characters.

Better than expected

The book is a bit confusing at first, then it sucks you in and you realize that you're reading a good story. Jessica is a likeable heroine with a strong backbone as well as compassion. Scott's bitterness fades as he becomes the person Jessica knows he used to be. The tattooed woman and GQ man are a fun twist on the usual theme of good girl meets bad boy. Nicely done.

I liked this novel well enough. It took me a little while to figure out that it was a paranormal romance and what a lightning catcher actually was. I wouldn't shy away from reading more, but I wouldn't say that I'm rushing to get the next book along these lines.

entertaining

Well, the story itself was fun, but I'm not sure where the author was trying to go with the whole lightning catcher thing. It was more of a love story with a afterthought of paranormal thrown in. It would have been good just as a love story.

I wanted to try something different and this story sounded interesting. Halfway through I realized it just wasn't for me.

Very light read, but interesting enough to pick up the rest of the series.
