When spirited necromancer, Mia Arden, is hired to cleanse a long-abandoned castle, she expects a few temperamental ghosts— not a the brooding, devastatingly handsome phantom Duke trapped inside of a cursed painting.
Lucien Wescraven has spent years as a shadow, imprisoned by the woman who loved him to madness. Now, with the castle alive with sinister magic, and the ghosts of woman who will do anything to keep him lurking in every echoing corridor, Mia is his only hope. But the deeper she digs, the more entangled she becomes in Lucien’s tragic past.
As passion flares and the castle fights to keep its secrets, Mia must Break the curse, risk her soul, and set the haunted duke free, or walk away before she’s lost to the darkness forever.
A gothic romance brimming with yearning, wit, ghostly danger, and the enduring power of love. Fans of Casper, Jane Eyre, and Crimson Peak will fall for this deliciously dark fairytale.
Necormance is an adult 18+ dark gothic romantic fantasy and contains mature content and explicit scenes. For all of the people that wished Casper was for adults, Lucien Wescraven welcomes you to Ravenspire Castle…
I am telling you right now if you love spooky gothic romance READ THIS!!!!!!!! Omg I can’t wait to yap about this!!!!!! The tension. The banter. The romance. The storyline. The vibes. All of it was AMAZING.
I was thinking this was going to be a 3 star read. The gothic setting and eerie vibe had me interested at first, but the more I read, the more it fell apart.
The almost-insta attraction was a big nope for me. The FMC was drawn to MMC after seeing his portrait (yes, there was a reason, but still), and from there their interactions just felt flat and awkward. It gave Beauty and the Beast vibes without any of the slow burn or chemistry.
And then there’s the FMC, who seemed like a skilled necromancer in the beginning, but Lucien kept swooping in to save her…likeee??
Finishing this one threw me straight into a slump
The way I devoured this book... it was such an easy binge. A haunted castle full of ghosts, an MMC trapped inside a cursed painting, and a necromancer FMC? Say less.
From the very first chapter, I was completely invested. The plot, the atmosphere, the characters, and the mystery were all chef's kiss.
And can we talk about the horror? It was done SOOO WELL that saying some scenes actually spooked me would be an understatement👀
The romance was cute and adorable .The heated moments, the banter, the chemistry, and that delicious slow burn... it was just perfect.
My only complaint? It was too short or maybe I just flew through it because I couldn't put it down. I desperately wanted more of Mia and Lucien. 😭😭
I'm still left with a few questions because we didn't get much about the backstory behind the curse , but honestly? It was still absolutely worth the read🖤

PRE-READ
Idk if I m setting up this book fr a failure bc after reading fairydale WHICH WAS THE MASTERPIECE I shouldn't pick another book with same genre 💀 but this PLOT JUST SCREAMS MY VIBE n I HAVE TO READ IT ASAP☝️
A haunted house, spooky witchy vibes, and a touch of romance, this book had everything I wanted for Halloween. Lucien gave me total Casper energy, and the banter was so much fun. It’s gothic, a little eerie, and honestly just the perfect fall read.
"The Duke of Ravenspire betrayed a heart, forevermore trapped in art. Bind him tight, where he shall stay, until a heart guides his way. Dashing though he be, only love shall set him free. Call him forth with careful thought, his time shall never be bought. Cursed to dream in eternal sleep, until a heart he shall keep.”
This book made my gothic heart so happy y'all!!! 😭 I'm a hoe for haunted castles, dark mystery, phantom vibes and curses.
Like hear me out. Mia gets hired to go to this old haunted castle and figure out what the hell is going on there. The castle is full of spirits, mystery, darkness.. you get the idea, and people believe the former owner.. Lucien, was a terrible man who deserved the curse placed on him. But when Mia arrives.. she quickly realizes the story might not be that simple y'all. 👀
Guess who's meeting Lucien's spirit as she investigates the castle, since he's trapped in there because of the curse!! 😭 My shayla!! My poor Lucien. I loved him sm!! I loved his chaotic bad boy energy. His sarcastic comebacks to Mia had me smiling. He was teasing her all the time, but there was also so much more to him.
Like he helped Mia whenever he could, protected her.. and you actually start to understand how lonely and misunderstood he has been for so many years. Because let me tell you.. people believed the worst about him for so long. Mia included. 🥺
I actually liked Mia a lot. That girl was committed! She came to that castle to uncover the truth and help the spirits there, and she never stopped doing that even when things became dangerous or confusing. I did wish sometimes tho that she had been more honest with Lucien, because there were moments where she kept things from him. But I get it. everything around them was messy and uncertain, so it made sense that she didn’t always know what to believe either.
I loved the subtle romance here, like the spice didn't take over the story. I mean i do like my books spicy but hello???? Haunted castle, ghosts, curses, necromancy and evil spirits!!! I was hooked! 😩
you know the thing that always gets me is when everyone believes a man is terrible and deserves his fate, but as the truth comes out you realize he was actually wronged. This is Lucien here. My baby didn’t deserve the curse, the loneliness, or the years of being misunderstood. He was a victim himself. 🥺
I legit can't stop talking about this book bc I loved it so much. It felt so magical in that dark, gothic way that I love.
This is a perfect gothic romance to read especially around Halloween. It has a haunted castle, spirits, necromancer, curses, paintings and a hot Phantom duke. This is a short and fun and creepy and spicy read.
The atmosphere of this book was so delicious at the beginning. However, it quickly devolved into inconsistent rules of magic. In some parts, it felt the different POV was unnecessary. A lot of backstory was missing, and things just happened out of convenience. I honestly skimmed the last 25% because I had lost some interest and figured how it would go. Rounded up to 2.5 stars.
A fun, gothic romance, spooky, haunted house story full of banter and witchy vibes. I had a great time reading it, and the illustrations in the physical copy are a beautiful edition to the story.
This book started off so strong, it was beautifully written and I really felt I was there with Mia. Unfortunately (and after reading reviews, I'm not the only one that thinks this) it fell flat after the main characters were introduced to each other.
We quickly shifted from a gothic, atmospheric read to an insta-love that I wasn't particularly interested in.
The ending made me roll my eyes and I just wanted the book to end.
I've rated it 3 stars for the strong start however the majority of the book would fall in the 2 star area.
I highly suspect that the majority of this was helped along by AI. The overuse of certain punctuation marks is a red flag with most AI generators and in chapter one it was heaving with them. I refuse to continue with it.
4.5 stars Okay this was such a fun creepy, spooky, spicy gothic read. Highly recommend for a quick October read. Dare I say I enjoyed the vibes of this more than phantasma? I feel like it has the same bones as phantasma but honestly more sinister and without the trials.
2,5⭐️ This book was written beautifully, but unfortunately the insta love kinda ruined it. I also feel like something was missing, plus there was so little information—loopholes. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the book, but I don’t think I would recommend it to my friends or anyone tbh.
A truly beautiful and unique gothic romance. The creepy spooky atmosphere is fabulous, and it's dark, twisted, and sexy in all the best ways. If you loved the 1995 film Casper and wished for an adult version, you will absolutely devour this book!
Really good fast paced read! I did feel like at times I was reading a light version of Phantasma. Still thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend this book :)
2.75 ⭐ An enjoyable enough read. I really liked the spooky vibe, and the story had a cute, easy charm to it. It was simple to follow and made for a quick, light read.
That said, it didn’t quite stand out or leave a lasting impression, it was good, but nothing particularly amazing or memorable.
I like atmospheric haunted house settings, I love ghost stories, and romances with ghosts. Needless to say, this one could've easily been a 5 star read for me, but it unfortunately just missed the mark. First off, not enough ghosts!! It's a ghost story yet, where are all the ghost interactions? The description when Mia first enters the castle was how different the place felt because it was alive with ghosts. There wasn't a whole lot to this story, and it basically centered around three characters: Mia, Lucien (a mysterious, cursed ghost trapped in a painting), and the psychotic ex haunting the castle. It's a fun and semi spooky read with some spice and fun banter, but everything felt pretty one dimentional. Still an enjoyable enough read to pick up during spooky season on a lazy afternoon, and I'm happy to see more ghosty romances being made.
This started well with an interesting premise and setting but ugh it just dragged so much and became so formulaic and stilted and dumb that I just couldn't keep reading. Our protagonist who is supposedly super powerful and skilled comes off useless and in constant near of reacue from the duke, who is an amalgamation of every sexy, rakish nobleman who just smirks and snarks. The characters just went completely flat for me, the plot seemed to just stop entirely with no real sense of direction and constant random chance and overdone sexual tension being the only guiding forces, and the constant minor typos with grammar started grating on me too much to the point it was just the icing on top to be not worth continuing. Stopping at about 43% with no intent to continue.
Let me just say, I liked the premise of this story and it started off great, lady asks necromancer to rid her manor of ghosts, unfortunately the execution left a lot to be desired. I read this one for book club which is probably the main reason that I didn’t DNF. There were quite a few inconsistencies that bothered me, first of all the eye description of Lucian, described as dark most of book but a couple of times they were described as honey coloured…..but honey coloured eyes wouldn’t be dark. Next and probably the worst one for me, Mia was supposed to be a very skilled and confident necromancer yet as soon as she met Lucian, she became a damsel in distress in constant need of being saved.
The chemistry between the pair was not there imo, and while I know now that the reason for the insta love (did not buy) was because they were destined for eachother, it did not translate on the pages. Lucian’s pet name for her “witch” made me want to scream. In my head it was been used in the derogatory way that it would have been used in those days, “witches” were not seen as good. It pulled me right out of the story everytime.
I felt like sometimes the speech was too modern for the times! I do not believe upper class men in those times would say F**k in front of a lady.
I honestly had a hard time believing that Lucian’s spirit or whatever that was solid and warm to touch when he was “flickering”.
The one thing that should have been really creepy was the mirrors with the “me but not me” but I didn’t feel the tension building, and then she is attacked saved and it’s over. It just fell flat.
The miscommunication trope made me a little bit delulu.
Like I said the execution and descriptions were lacking. The painting was fading rather quickly yet there didn’t feel like there was any urgency.
We went from haunted house to fairytale in 2.3 seconds.
The last thing I am going to touch on is the 18+ label, honestly was disappointed, I was expecting more because of that label.
If this review is all over the place it’s because I just spent days reading a book that was all over the place. One plus for it, it will make for a good discussion in book club, although it won’t be all that positive sadly.

2.5 — Not bad, but not good either. I had fun reading it, and it definitely gave off spooky vibes, which was perfect for this month, but… I was also kinda bored.
The only thing I can say about the MMC is that he smirked and grinned constantly. It was mentioned like 100 times per page.
The FMC is supposed to be this strong, fearless necromancer, but she didn’t really do anything. The MMC kept saving her over and over—she gave us nothing.
And the romance? Pretty bland. I couldn’t feel their love or connection at all. They were instantly in love and attracted to each other (even though there was a reason), but still… that was a no for me.
Fun quick read for your spooky season . A bit repetitive but still enjoyable. FMC is a bit … not up to character 🤷🏻♀️ she’s supposed to be an expert necromancer but she always needs saving . Which kinda throws the book off a bit .
2.5 🌟 Was in the mood for a quick gothic romance but unfortunately this was not the choice. I was intrigued in the beginning but then I got so out of my mind bored I had to push through to finish it.
