Nick Galaxy has zero interest in helping anyone write a love story—especially not one about him. He’s a single dad with enough on his plate, and the last thing he needs is a curious, chatty author poking around in his past.
But when Ruby shows up on his doorstep, notebook in hand and determined smile on her face, resistance becomes... complicated.
She’s supposed to be here for research. Instead, she’s moving into the empty cabin on his property, asking personal questions, and somehow roping him into teaching her how to skate. He’s not looking for love—but she’s writing it into every inch of his life.
And the more time they spend on the ice, the harder it is to pretend she doesn’t already have his heart.
Lucky Shot is a grumpy/sunshine, single dad, forced proximity hockey romance with found family, banter, and spice—all wrapped up in a guaranteed happily ever after.
This was a hard book to rate because it was both cute and dull.
Let’s start with the leads. Besides finding the female lead Ruby whiny at the start, there was honestly nothing wrong with her or the MMC Nick. They were both fine. However, that was also the problem. They did not have any standout qualities and were just there. They were like carbon copies of so many other male and female leads I’ve read from other romance books. And so, while they weren’t annoying characters, I found them to be uninspiring and mundane.
I felt the same when it came to the plot. It never got exciting and fun and I was bored for a good chunk of the book waiting for something to happen. This is also the second book I’ve read by this author with the single parent trope and the kid barely plays a part in the story. How does that make sense!?! It’s like the author added the trope just for marketing purposes because the book doesn’t do the trope justice imo.
Overall, this book was mid, but at least it was a quick read.
———————-
Pre-read: I’ve been in a little reading slump the last few days so hoping this gets me out of it🙏🏻
She was cute and I had fun, but the romance and the plot were meh for me.
What's the book about? Well, it’s about Ruby who is struggling to write, and her only chance to get back into the publishing world is to change a romance book she wrote from baseball to hockey. Only problem is that she knows nothing about the sport, so in comes Nick to help her learn hockey from the grumpiest hockey player she ever met.
The story is cute and the characters too, but that’s all...it was cute 💖 I didn’t see the build-up as much as I would’ve loved between Ruby and Nick. It was very much one day they like each other, then the next boom they’re having a summer fling. It felt a bit flat for me. I did love the dynamic of how Nick showed her hockey in different instances, but I thought it was missing that flavor between them for it to be swoony worthy for a reader like me.
Another aspect that felt a bit down for me was that he is a single dad… but his kid didn’t have much bonding with Ruby (except for like 2 instances) to really see the connection between them and give me the single dad trope that I adore 😞
I know some people will love this book, but overall I think we needed more 🥹 moments, sadly for me everything was just a bit average.

this book had me SO GIDDY 🥰 both Ruby & Nick are such cuties, I love them I honestly could have read another 500 pages of these two 🥹
💭 what I loved about this one: - Ruby & Nick’s instant connection, fighting how much they were drawn to each other - Ruby’s energy & “inside thoughts” 🤭 - the relationship Ruby builds with Aiden (Nick’s son) - Nick’s matchmaking dad - his teammates - the found family vibes & how they treated Ruby as one of them from the start 🥰 - Wildcat cameos 🙃 - The setting sounded absolutely idyllic, and I’d love to visit Moonshot!
I knew this was a romance but I was STRESSING for how they were going to get their HEA 🙃
I’m SO EXCITED that this is a series, I’m very much here for all their stories 🙌🏼 loved that little teaser for Travis, and I’m hoping he’s up next!
🎧 audiobook thoughts: (edited to add on 11/7/2025) I adored this book when I first read it, and I was thrilled to do an audio reread of Ruby & Nick’s story 😍
🎙narrated in DUET by Erin Mallon & Ryan Lee Dunlap, we also get a full cast for the side characters, and I absolutely LOVED it - each captured their characters perfectly!
full cast: Savannah Peachwood, Austine Stone, Jason Clarke, Teddy Hamilton & Christian Fox 🤯 seriously such a treat to have them all in my ears - this also got me even MORE excited for the rest of the series 🥳

3.25 🌟
I always enjoy Rebecca’s writing and this did not disappoint!! Her writing is so easily bingeable and this is exactly what i needed at the time. It was nothing groundbreaking and i most likely won’t remember a lot about it, but it was a fun time and i really loved it!! 😊 I love me a good hockey romance! Our fmc Ruby was a romance author getting out of a writers block and writing a Hockey romance - enter Nick Galaxy - single dad, hockey player who is teaching her the basics of hockey!! Super cute plot and i really had a good time!!
Ruby Madison is a romance author from Arizona. She loves her job, but lately she's been struggling. It's been over a year since she's published anything, and her career is headed for disaster when she gets a new contract opportunity. They want her to take one of her ideas and rework it. The hero of the book plays baseball, but her editor wants her to change the sport to hockey. This is her chance to prove she has another great book to offer. She needs to interview a hockey expert, and hopes she can get all the info she needs to finish her book. She rents a cabin on the lake in western Montana. She has six weeks to do the research necessary to edit her manuscript. So much rides on this trip, and failure isn't an option. The only possible road block is the hot, grumpy hockey player that's the one she needs help from to complete the book.
Nick Galaxy is a professional hockey player that's built a home and a life in Moonshot, Montana. Being captain of his hockey team, and being a single parent, he stays pretty busy. He values his privacy, and likes his space. Then he's completely blindsided when a stranger knocks on his door expecting him to assist her with her story. He wants no part of this plan, but the more he's around this gorgeous, chaotic, quirky woman, the more trouble he has resisting her. He finds Ruby fascinating, and soon he can't stop smiling, and looking forward to seeing her. Love wasn't on his agenda this summer, but sometimes the best things in life aren't planned.
Lucky Shot (Moonshot Hockey #1) by Rebecca Jenshak is a small town, forced proximity, opposites attract, single dad, found family, grumpy/sunshine, neighbors, sports romance full of humor, amazing chemistry and fabulous banter. I loved this book and these characters so much! I can't wait for more in this world! I hope we get books for Travis, Conrad, Danny and Penn too! <333
Lucky Shot is the first book in the Moonshot Hockey series! It’s a grumpy x sunshine, single dad, hockey romance! Filled with found family, banter, and forced proximity.
Ruby is a paranormal romance author who has been struggling to write but gets asked by her dream editor to rework her shelved baseball manuscript and turn it into a hockey romance! A huge switch from her usual vampire romances, as well as a whole world of a sport she knows nothing about…and she has just six weeks to get it done. But her agent comes in clutch and sets her up immediately with a six-week stay in Montana and a crash course on hockey from a hockey player, Nick Galaxy! The only problem is Nick had no idea his dad conspired and okay’d the setup without him…until Ruby shows up on his doorstep!
I adored this one! This was such a fun, fresh take on a hockey romance. I loved Ruby being an author who is writing a hockey romance and all the behind the scenes of her having to learn the sport, get on the ice, spend time (freezing her Arizona-booty off) at the ice rink. While it’s Nick’s off-season, he is coaching some kids camps at the rink and we see his teammates/friend group as well (the guys were all so fun with Ruby). Nick is also a single dad to his son Aidan and his dad lives with them as well who loves to meddle in his son’s dating life. Ruby was the cutest and I loved her sunshine outlook to Nick’s grumpiness, their banter and chemistry was just so fun to see play out! This also has ties to other series in Rebecca Jenshak’s universe, Nick made appearances in the Wildcat Hockey series (Jack and Ev make an appearance in this book too) and Ruby was in Spotlight (in the Holland Brother series) as her sister Olivia had that book!
Overall a super sweet, fun romance and I can’t wait for more from the characters we met in this book and to see the rest of the series play out! I received an ARC, all thoughts in this review are my own.
This story is an adorable romance between a romance author and a hockey player. Ruby is facing writer's block after her popular book, and her follow-up is struggling to find its footing. When she thinks things can't get worse, a publisher offers her a fantastic opportunity, but they want her to publish a hockey romance! The catch? Ruby doesn't know much about hockey at all. But she is determined, she heads to Montana to interview Nick Galaxy, a hockey player.
After a tough breakup, Ruby's confidence took a hit, and her book floundered, leaving her feeling a bit lost. But she’s a fighter! When a chance comes her way, she’s eager to embrace it. What I love about Ruby is her optimistic outlook, her sassy spirit, and her adorable clumsiness. She never gives up, and that makes her truly special.
Nick is the captain of the Montana Moonshot hockey team and a grumpy yet endearing single dad. At first, he’s not too thrilled about having Ruby in his life; he enjoys his quiet routine and isn’t looking for chaos. But Ruby's sunny personality and determination start to break down his walls, and before he knows it, he’s looking forward to spending time with her.
Even though Nick and Ruby have very different personalities, they complement each other beautifully. Their moments together are sweet and heartwarming! I love how protective Nick is of Ruby and the little things he does to bring her joy. I also loved Ruby bonding with Nick's son, Aidan. It added an extra layer of warmth to the story. The supporting characters are also delightful, and it’s great to see Ruby connect with Nick’s teammates. This book is a feel-good romance filled with fun, warmth, sweetness, and a sprinkle of spice. If you’re a fan of hockey romance, this one is definitely for you!
This is my first Rebecca Jenshak book and I’m SO excited to go back and read her entire catalogue 🤩📖
Tropes: - single dad - forced proximity - grumpy sunshine - romance author FMC - hockey player mmc
This book was so much fun! Ruby is a romance author who has to quickly turn her baseball romance into a hockey romance, but the problem is she doesn’t know anything about hockey 🏒
She gets sent to stay in a town and interview a professional hockey player so that she can accurately write about the sport, but he is completely taken by surprise because his dad orchestrated this without telling him.
Their relationship is SO CUTE! And I loved both his relationship with his son, but also Ruby’s relationship with his son. I thought this book was so beautiful written and I found myself grinning/giggling throughout different parts of the book because I loved it so much. This is the first in what will be a series, and I absolutely can’t wait to continue reading them!
I already knew this book was going to be a hit the moment we were introduced to Nick, a grumpy single dad and a hockey player. That checks so many of my favorite boxes, and honestly, I was obsessed with him from the start.
Ruby, our FMC, is an author trying to make a comeback after struggling with her writing. She’s such a sweet character, and watching her find her spark again was everything. I also loved how Nick, his son, and his friends all became such an important part of her journey.
The found family vibes in this book are unmatched. From Nick’s teammates to his son, everyone welcomed Ruby with open arms and made her feel like part of the group. It gave the story so much warmth and heart.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series. I’m so excited to dive deeper into this friend group, and it was such a treat to also get glimpses of the Holland Brothers
Ruby is a best selling paranormal romance author making her way into the sports romance world. Only problem, she knows nothing about sports, especially hockey. Her agent sets it up for her to spend a few weeks with a professional hockey player to learn the ins and outs of the game. What Ruby didn't know is that the hockey player had no idea she was coming and wanted nothing to do with her or her book.
Nick is a grumpy single dad and professional hockey player, who's dad keeps trying to play matchmaker for him. He set up Ruby's stay with Nick, but might have "forgotten" to tell Nick about her upcoming stay and his role in her new hockey romance. Of course he isn't interested and wants nothing to do with her.
I adored this book from start to finish! Ruby and Nick are complete opposites, but that's what makes them so cute together. Ruby was so funny with all her quirks and inside thoughts that she has absolutely no filter to keep inside. I loved Nick's meddling dad and all his hockey teammates. Even as side characters they had such a fun role in the story. I'm a big hockey romance girl and I loved that this one was a different and fresh take on the hockey romance trope. As an avid romance reader, I also loved having the FMC being a romance author. There were so many funny moments plus cute and tender moments. Overall, I really enjoyed this book!
This is a multi series cross over, with Nick coming from the Wildcat Hockey series and Ruby coming from the Holland Brothers series. Even with the multi cross over it can absolutely be read as a standalone. This was such a fun start to this new Moonshot Hockey series and I already can't wait for book two!
Happy release day to ‘Lucky Shot’ by @rebeccajenshak 💗 This is the first book in Rebecca’s newest series, Moonshot Hockey, and when I say I’m OBSESSED with everything about this series… these characters and this found family…. Rebecca I’m willing to do anything to be able read all the stories early (especially Travis and Penn)…. You need a kidney at any point in the future, you let me know 😬
On a more serious note, this book was everything I could have asked for and more. The concept of Ruby, our FMC, using Nick, a professional grumpy hockey player, to help write a romance book about hockey…. LOVE!! Nick was a single dad (which can make me nervous based on the execution) but the kid was older so I loved the addition of that character into our story. The setting of this new, lake side town is absolutely magical 🥹🫶🏼 this story was absolute perfection to me from top to bottom and I cannot wait for you all to read it so I can gab with all you about the true magic Rebecca put into these pages 💗
Thank you endlessly to Rebecca and her team for sending me this physical copy of this release. It is a new prized possession and I did indeed scream when it came in 🥹🫶🏼
This was my first Rebecca read, and I liked it! I thought it was a great intro to a new series. It was a classic grumpyxsunshine with a touch of single dad and a TON of fun side characters. I liked the setup of Ruby being in this town to learn more about hockey for a hockey romance- how META Rebecca! I LOVED Nick's dad. He reminded me of Harvey from Chestnut Springs with all of his meddling. I felt the chemistry between Nick and Ruby from the word go. Their *meet cute* was hilarious. I was SO happy that Nick back tracked on his uber negativity and invited Ruby to stay for the summer. He knew that she was trouble for him, and he didn't know if he was ready for it. The thing I love about a grumpy romance is watching the grumps layers slowly but surely peel back, and this one was no exception. Watching Nick's true self emerge was mesmerizing. This man went from uber grump to turning on the charm and making all of the time with Ruby count. I loved Ruby's optimism. She was like a bucket of sunshine on this little gem by the lake. I loved how well she fit in with the rest of the team, and I really liked how well she did navigating Nick's son. At the end of the day, these two were great for each other. They made each other better- they helped each other be their best self which is what we all want with our partner!
Ruby wants to pinch herself to remind herself that this scenario that is playing out is in fact real life. She has a publisher who wants her. Minor detail is that she wants a backlist book and wants to change the sport to hockey. Which is how Ruby finds herself in this beautiful setting being introduced to Nick- one of the stars of the local hockey team. Problem is that Nick didn't know she was coming. Her being here was some sort of plot by his dad. Upon learning this she tries to pivot since Nick is being as welcoming as gum on your shoe, but then it's like he turns on the charm. He invites her to stay and says he will help her with her research. Which his how she finds herself spending more time with him and LIKING it. Which is how she finds herself asking him questions to get to know him and the sport more. Which is how she realizes that she is seriously crushing on this man who is now beyond charming. Teaching her to skate. Doing what he can to make her smile and keep her inspired. She shouldn't partake in her feelings though because at the end of the day, she is leaving soon. But everything in her is telling her to go for it. So she does. And nothing has felt this way with anyone before. She knows its right. HE is right. And so without speaking it, they decide to spend the rest of their time wrapped up in each other. The more they do this the more she realizes this place feels more like home than her empty apartment. The more she realizes that if he asked her to stay she just might say yes. But will he ask her?
Nick has put romance on the back burner for the past few years. He has his son to focus on and now his dad and his health. Nick is coming off of an injury from last season and wants this summer to focus on getting back in shape. So he needs no distractions which is exactly what Ruby is. What was his dad thinking inviting her here without him knowing? He tells her as nicely as he can that he will not be helping her. But there is something about her that intrigues him. Which is why he decides to change his mind and invte her to stay for the summer. He will help her with her book in between teaching this summer camp. And that is all. But he can't help but be a little possessive of her. He doesn't want his teammates to ask her out even though he knows he can't cross that line. He doesn't want to share her time with anyone even though he knows she is leaving. But the more time he spends with her the more he realizes that they are inevitable which is when he really turns on the charm. He wants her to experience everything for this book. He wants it to be so successful. He wants HER to be happy. So even though he fights it as long as he can, he gives in to this pull and it is wonderful. He knows he is screwed. There is no way around it, but he is all in as long as she will have him. But her time to leave is looming and Nick finds himself wrestling with asking her to stay with him or to let her go to seek out her dreams.
This was a great intro to a new world! I loved the drop of Jack from the Wildcat Hockey world. Hilarious that I know who that is even though I haven't read that series. Nick was BORDERLINE too mean at the beginning BUT his charm turned things around really quickly. I loved watching Nick come into himself and realize that he could be happy in his personal life AND his work life. I loved watching him realize why he loved what he did because of his time with Ruby. I am looking forward to the rest of these guys falling for their girls and HOPEFULLY HARD haha.
Thank you to Valentine PR and Rebecca for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Tropes: hockey romance, forced proximity, single dad
A romance between a romance author and a hockey player?! YES PLEASE!
Rebecca Jenshak has solidified herself as an auto buy author for me. All of her books bring me so much comfort and joy. I am already obsessed with this new world she is creating.
Lucky Shot follows Ruby and Nick. Ruby is Olivia’s sister, the fmc from Spotlight, and she is writing a new sports romance book. Originally, it was a baseball romance, but her publisher has requested a rewrite to hockey. The problem is she doesn’t know a thing about hockey. This is where Nick comes in. Since it’s his off season he is enlisted to help Ruby, against his will. To make matters worse, she’s staying in a cabin on his property. This grumpy single dad just got a whole lot grumpier.
Who is ready for Rebecca Jenshak to be back in her hockey romance era? I can tell you right now, I know I am. I will be honest with you, in my eyes, Rebecca never misses! And this one is so stinkin' cute!
Lucky Shot is the first book in the new series Moonshot Hockey and if you are well versed in the Rebecca-verse, then you have already met our MCs. You may already know Nick Galaxy. He was in the Wildcat Hockey series and he is now in Montana playing for a new hockey team. And Ruby, she is the romance author sister of Olivia from Spotlight, which was the last book in the Holland Brothers series. And I have to say, I love this pairing. Nick and Ruby are such opposites. Nick is a hot but grumpy single dad to the cutest 5th grader. And Ruby is such a clumsy ray of sunshine. But you know what they say, opposites attract!
I really loved the plot of this one. I loved that Ruby is a romance author who originally wrote a book that was inspired by her sister's love story. But the original story was a baseball romance and when a publisher was interested in the book they wanted the sport changed to hockey. And since Ruby knows nothing about "sports puck stuff," she jet sets to Montana to learn from the best. But Nick Galaxy has no clue Ruby is about to be a guest in his life for 6 weeks. In fact, Nick can thank his meddling father for Ruby. Honestly, what an amazing gift lol
I just thought this one was really cute. Point, blank, period. I love Rebecca's books so much! Just know if you are a single daddy hockey romance fan, you need to add this one to your TBR immediately! With that being said, I am so excited to see how the rest of the series unfolds! I loved all of Nick's teammates/friends.
You should most definitely read this one if you like: - Hockey Romance - Single Dad - Romance Author FMC - Grumpy x Sunshine - Forced Proximity - Found Family
* I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Rebecca Jenshak for allowing me the absolute pleasure to read LUCKY SHOT as an ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts, opinions and review.
I just finished this one and it hit all the right notes for me 💕
Nick and Ruby’s story is such a feel-good slow burn. He’s the grumpy, guarded single dad who isn’t looking for love, and she’s the sunshine-y, determined author who somehow slips past all his walls. Watching their relationship unfold felt so natural with lots of quiet, tender moments mixed with playful banter that had me smiling the whole way through.
What I especially loved was how they showed up for each other, even in the little ways. It wasn’t just about the sparks (though the chemistry was definitely there 👀🔥), but about building trust, respect, and this sweet found-family vibe that made the romance feel so much deeper.
If you’re a fan of single dad romances, hockey settings, forced proximity, and that slow build toward something real, this one will absolutely melt your heart. It's equal parts swoony and heartwarming. 🏒✨💫
The cover of this book is wonderful and it instantly convinced me to apply for an ARC. Besides that, I had a great experience with the previous books I've read by the author, so it was an easy choice. That wouldn't have been possible without the acceptance from the author and Valentine Pr. So, thank youu!
Ruby Madison was a romance writer who simply hit that writer's block after her ex boyfriend, Matthew, broke her trust and stole one of her book ideas. The worst thing was that that book was a launching pad for Matthew's career. In order to start over, Ruby was offered to change one of her old scrips from a baseball story into a hockey one. But she knew nothing at all about that sport. That's how Ruby ended up in small town of Moonshot, where a grumpy hockey player, named Nick Galaxy, whould help her learn the basics of hockey and who will also steal her heart and change her whole life.
This book was so much fun and it was super relaxing! I liked so much that awkward first encounter of Ruby and Nick and how their connection evolved. Nick's dad was also so likable, who was having some secret plans for these two lovebirds🤭. Nick was such a grumpy man but Ruby infected him with a joy he never felt before and she fit so well in his life and his son's, Aiden. Nick's hockey teammates were super fun, especially Travis, who always teased Nick regarding Ruby and practically played a small part into their relationship.
I had a great time reading this story, being a pretty relaxing one, sweet, fun and sometimes quite sexy. I'm super excited about the next book from this new series by Rebecca, having in this one a little hint about who will be the protagonists of this 2nd book🤭.
“It was funny and sweet. Sexy.” thanks for the help with that Nick^^
I feel like every time I sit down to write a review for a new Rebecca Jenshak book my automatic first thought is just, “Geez, I loved it.” Which nothing is changing for Lucky Shot because, GEEZ I LOVED IT! This is the start of her new Moonshoot Hockey series, BUT if you’re a fan then you will know Nick from the Wildcat Hockey series and Ruby from the last book in her Holland Brothers series, Playbook. I always love that Rebecca has created this big universe of her characters that just makes each book feel immersive in a deeper way because you remember characters from past series, but if you haven’t read them they are still easy to follow. That said, Nick and Ruby definitely make their story all their own. I mean seriously, I knew I’d love a grumpy single dad and a romance writer romance, but I did not expect how emotional and happy this read would truly make me.
Nick is focused on life as it is. His son, his career, his father, and his health. Ruby pops up in his life unexpectedly, but she is exactly what he needs and he turns out to be exactly what she was looking for. She needs help learning hockey in order to write her WIP after struggling to find her writer groove again after some hard times in publishing. While Nick is reluctant to help at first, he gives in and when he does these two just have a draw to each other that I as a reader so easily fell in love with. Their banter and the tension between them just pops off the page and had me rooting for the moment they’d finally give in. The love story is fun, spicy, and sweet, but I also loved meeting the new Moonshot hockey team and Nick’s family. Nothing better in a sports romance than building up that found family… maybe the stamina is good too, but I can’t wait for more in this Moonshot series. I already love so many of the players and I know their stories will be great!
This one was SO GOOD. The hero is a single dad and a hockey player, and his dad sets up an opportunity for a romance author to live on their property so that she can shadow him and learn about hockey. Their dynamic was so fun and I loved how he slowly came around to the idea of helping her, and then started falling for her!
When I tell you I have 5+ Rebecca Jenshak books on my TBR, I’m not lying. So when I got the chance to read my first - at the beginning of a series no less - I jumped at the chance. Turns out, the hype is legit.
📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Lucky Shot by Rebecca Jenshak
📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Moonshot character series. Book 1.
📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: E-book ARC on Kindle. 🆓 on KU.
📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Sports romance
📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: Grumpy/sunshine, fish out of water, he’s her landlord, she’s a romance writer, single dad.
📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Ruby is facing her last chance at writing a book to keep her career afloat when a new publisher takes a chance on her book - but asks her to switch it from a baseball romance to hockey. For help, she enlists hockey superstar Nick Galaxy to make her book realistic and support rewrites.
🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: I wish I could drop everything and read the rest of Rebecca Jenshak backlist.
The first book in the Moonshot series knocked it out of the park. Nick is a hockey heart throb, and Ruby is impossible to hate. Their grumpy/sunshine dynamic really worked for me.
I’m critical of hockey romances, and usually weary of romances featuring romance writers… but this was tempered just right. The backdrop of learning the sport shows that Jenshak knows what she’s talking about, and the romance novel aspect was so fun and meta.
And like the best writers, she’s set readers up for a solid character series. Every player she introduced has been foaming at the mouth for the next installment - and you better believe I’m marking my calendar for it.
Every single thing Rebecca Jenshak writes makes my heart happy and this book is no exception. Honestly, this book is something special in a long list of books that I adore written by this wonderful woman.
Nick and Ruby were everything. Like there is just something about a grumpy single dad that cracks my heart wide open and has me swooning.
Permanent scowl… yes baby. Exists mainly in grunts… come to mama. Soft only for her…. I am a whole puddle. Nick Galaxy was everything I wanted and more.
✨ Hockey Romance ✨ Single Dad ✨ Grumpy x Sunshine ✨ Forced Proximity ✨ She’s a Romance Author
Nick and Ruby had chemistry from their very first meeting and it just kept ramping up throughout the book. This man wanted nothing to do with his new tenant or her questions but Ruby was determined to get her story. I love when the FMC is an author because it’s such a cute look at the industry when we see it through a characters eyes.
This book is full of really cute moments… he teachers her to skate, she has a really cute bond with his kid, their friends are hilarious. Plus it balances the cuteness with some very real emotions about health and family and duty that I absolutely loved.
Ans don’t forget the spice… because that delivers. That definitely delivers… hello boat scene 🥵🥵 plus there is a jersey moment but with a twist and yeah… your girl was in fire.
This book was just a delight and I will forever and always eat up every single thing Rebecca writes. There truly isn’t a sport that she can’t do well!
A grumpy single dad who’s also a hockey player? Say less!
“I want to know every one of your thoughts, Red. Haven’t you figured that out yet?”
My very first book by Rebecca Jenshak, and it did not disappoint! This is the kind of book I gravitate to when I’m looking for something sweet and cozy with just the right amount of spice.
Ruby gets a book deal, except she has to switch from a baseball romance to a hockey romance, so she gets sent to interview a hockey player, but he wants nothing to do with her.
Grumpy x Sunshine trope will ✨always✨ be a favorite, and the Lucky Shot by Rebecca Jenshak heavily delivered on it. Nick is scowling most of the time; whereas, Ruby is pure sunshine with a smile on her face. While they had a mini rocky start, it quickly evolved into a sweet friendship. His patience in teaching her about hockey, answering any question she had, going out of his way to make sure she had everything she needed… He had me with a smile on my face!
My favorite parts have to be the interactions between Ruby and Nick’s friends. They embraced her with open arms and quickly became friends with her. I can’t wait to see each of them get their own HEA!
🏒 single dad hockey player 🌦️ grumpy x sunshine 🐢 mini slow burn 🩷 no 3rd-act breakup 🫶🏽 found family 🤭 forced proximity
I received an eARC and ARC for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I think Ruby and Nick just earned a spot as one of my favorites Rebecca Jenshak couples. I loved the two of them together and especially loved watching Nick teach Ruby all the “sports ball” knowledge about hockey. I loved that Ruby was unsporty and writing a hockey romance for the first time and how Nick’s dad set up him being the hockey expert she interviewed and his temporary landlord. I also loved watching Ruby develop a relationship with Nick’s son Aiden and his teammates.
So excited that Rebecca Jenshak is back in her hockey romance era because hands down absolutely loved how Nick’s teammates embraced Ruby with open arms and excitement and I can’t wait to watch them all get their HEAs. Also, I loved the Jack and Everly cameo and all of Everly’s Everly-ness that comes with them and seeing Olivia and Flynn happily in love and expanding their family.
So excited for this series and what’s to come next!!
Thank you @rebeccajenshak and @valentine_pr_ for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback
e-ARC Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!!! thank you valentine pr for this book 🩷!!
I literally devoured this book in almost one sitting. It’s my first time reading this author and I’m honestly in love. Such a beautiful story.
It’s kind of a slow burn romance, but with the perfect mix of everything: love, hockey practice, single dad, a writer, a touch of spice, amazing friends, family, and just… so much love.
Reading it felt like pure comfort—like when it’s cold outside and you curl up with a blanket and a hot coffee or hot chocolate. That’s exactly the vibe this book gave me.
I completely adored Travis (Nick’s best friend), and the mysterious, tattooed, pierced book lover had me hooked too. And don’t even get me started on the quiet one—he seems shy, but I’m sure he’s the total opposite, and I can’t wait to know more.
This feels like the beginning of a new adventure with this series, and I already know I’ll be reading every single book that comes next. Thank you so much for letting me read this ARC—wishing you all the success when it’s released! 💕
I like enemies to lovers but the hate started off a little strong without fair reason. So he was slightly off with her when they met. He still helped her with her bag. Not everyone wants to listen to your verbal diarrhoea, sweetie. Get over it.
