Book 3 of the #1 Best-Selling Space Opera, Dark Space (Kindle Store)
THE DEFIANT IS STRANDED
Ethan and his son, Atton, have been arrested for high treason and conspiracy, crimes which will surely mean the death sentence, but it's beginning to look like theirs aren't the only lives in jeopardy--the Defiant is stranded in Sythian Space, and the vessel which Commander Caldin sent to get help has used all its fuel to get to Obsidian Station, only to find out that the station has been destroyed. Now the Defiant's last hope for a rescue is gone, and everyone on board is about to die a cold, dark death.
HUMANS ARE STILL FIGHTING EACH OTHER
Meanwhile, the notorious crime lord, Alec Brondi, is plotting to capture the remnants of Admiral Hoff's fleet, just as he captured the Valiant, but Hoff's men are on to him, and Brondi is about to get a lot more than he bargained for, forcing him to flee to the one place he knows will be safe--Dark Space.
AND A NEW INVASION IS ABOUT TO BEGIN
But Dark Space is only safe because the alien invaders don't know exactly where it is, and now they have a plan to find it which will threaten not only Dark Space, but the entire human race.

The pulpy, popcorn space opera Dark Space continues with this volume and it possesses all the strengths and weaknesses of the prior installments. This series should be shelved under 'so bad it is kinda good' and that about sums it up. We have a cheesy romance between Ethan, an older smuggler, still in love with his wife, although she is presumed lost with the alien invasion, and 'Kiddie', his young, beautiful co-pilot, who unfortunately has been 'chipped' to be a sex slave by the mob-boss Bondi. Implacable aliens who seemingly want to wipe out humanity lock stock and barrel. The monstrous Gor aliens, who are slaved ground troops for their alien masters, who may or may not want an alliance with humanity. Space fighters with rudders, afterburners and such, and gee-whiz weapons with staggering limited range, making space fights just about face to face. Secrets regarding humanity's origins (hint, the title of this volume!) and walking trope soldiers in all kinds of mech armor.

The plot moves at a nice pace, almost constantly punctuated with battle scenes, and lurching from one surprise to the next. Scott even gives us lots of slang, like skriffy, as in 'that is a skriffy plan'. If you like b-movies that are so bad they are kinda good, you might like this series. Hours of mindless entertainment! 2 limp stars!

Excellent space listening 🎶🔰

Another will written fantasy world 🌎 space opera family and friends relationships adventure thriller novel by Jasper T. Scott (Dark Space book 3). A wonderful space opera about the war between people to control the planets and stars. There is romance between new loves. If you want lots of action, misdirection, and violence as the battles are continuously occurring. I would recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of space opera adventure novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa read books 📚. 2023 😀👒☺😡

Holy Freck that was epic. This was the last book in the trilogy. Just the right amount of books, great characters, plot twists that left me gasping. Lots of frustration as the humans fight amongst themselves while hostile aliens want to kill them all. A ridiculous yet ruthless villain. I can't think of a space opera I've enjoyed more.

An epic sci-fi space opera in the vein of the Battlestar Galactica television show, the Dark Space series from Jasper T. Scott (@JasperTScott) features thrilling space battles and a multitude of twisty sub-plots arising from humanity’s fight for survival a decade after the devastating invasion of the alien Sythians pushed human survivors into a hidden corner of the galaxy: Dark Space.

The second book in the series, Dark Space: The Invisible War ended with every major character facing crisis, and Dark Space: Origin wastes no time getting the reader back into the action and drama surrounding the Ortane family.

Ethan Ortane, a convicted smuggler who was blackmailed into carrying out a devastating attack that crippled the remaining human fleet keeping Dark Space safe, and his teenage son Atton languish in jail after being accused of treason for impersonating the Overload, the leader of humans in Dark Space. Ethan’s attack left the capital starship Valiant in the hands of crime boss Alec Brondi, who never met another human he wouldn’t sacrifice for his own gain.

After barely surviving the Sythian attack on her homeworld, Ethan’s wife Destra escapes and lands on a barely habitable planet in the company of a fleet admiral who plays a central role in the third installment of the book. After Hoff Heston and Destra are rescued, he will go on to lead the military contingent that remained outside of Dark Space, evading the Sythians who have cloaking technology. Heston and the Overlord — first Atton and then Ethan Ortane in disguise — disagree on several issues, most centrally the trustworthiness of the alien Gors, a deadly race enslaved by the Sythians but who now fight alongside the Dark Space humans.

Paying off on plot points raised in the first two books, Dark Space: Origin delves into politics, the nature of humanity, family, loss and love, in much the same vein as quality sci-fi works as Battlestar Galactica. Although some of it dips close to soap opera territory, the pace never flags for long and action scenes both large and small are both exciting and well-executed. The ending is satisfying as I thought it nicely tied up all loose ends, but to my surprise there is a fourth book in the works.

After sampling the provided chapter from the next installment in the series, I’m looking forward to reading it. For more about the author and his writing, visit his website.

The title may be slightly deceiving as it doesn’t completely cover the origin of humans more than we really discover the origin of Admiral Heston (Hoff). This has to be the best of the first three as we discover the origin of every mini storyline and how each character comes to be as we know them now.

Everyone is searching for answers but it doesn’t take long for Ethan and his son Atton be reunited with Destra but it’s not the reunion they we’re expecting. Destra has moved on, but I believe part of her would not have completely moved on had she not discovered Ethan with Alara and being told that Atton was in the netherworlds.

It’s hard for anyone to trust anyone or should I say no one trusts anyone except for Ethan and Atton and Atton and Destra. The humans have tried to align themselves with the Gors but neither side really trusts each other especially after Hoff destroys their relationship. No one can trust Brondi, the criminal overlord but that is turned around when the common enemy, the Synthians attack and almost take over if not for alliances with those who believe they are enemies. Which adds to the title Origin, the new alliance between the Humans and Gors, between Imperium forces and criminals. And the origin of a new love story of Ethan and Alara!

This book has it all! Space, violence, betrayal and love.

Dark Space (Book 3): Origin ~ Jasper T. Scott

By THE HOLEY ONE "William Schmidt" (Naples Florida)
This review is for: Dark Space (Book 3): Origin (Kindle Edition)
I've often used the phrase "Blown Away" but until I read Dark Space III, Origin I realized I had never experienced it like this before. And, like great sex, It happened again and again. I don't often talk to myself or to books but, I found myself saying "WHAT"!!!, and "Oh No"!!! so often my Wife told me to be quiet. There are so many surprise changes and shifts that I think it's important to minimize interruptions while reading this book.
With a lot of the technological advances being made today in Science and Medicine there will be many moralistic issues to be addressed. With people living longer and longer lives and less premature death to disease and illness the Earth's population will grow to unsupportable levels. It is already happening in many parts of the World. This book confronts some of these issues and I found myself thinking: "Hmmm, Yeah, That's a real possibility".

This entry of author Jasper T. Scott’s Dark Space series opens three years After Exodus, with Destra Ortane attempting to survive on the world of Ritan, with Admiral Hoff Heston by her side and seeing a vision of the lost world of Origin. In present day, ten years AE, Ethan Ortane is incarcerated for having impersonated Supreme Overlord Altarian Dominic, with his love Alara vowing to free him, and Ethan suffers violent interrogation. Meanwhile, Deck Commander Loba Caldin salvages fuel and components from the Defiant to give the vessel Rescue a chance to reach Obsidian Station.

Furthermore, the main antagonist of the series, Alec Brondi, finds the ship he had stolen, the Valiant, to be the continued target of sabotage by the sneaky Gor Roan. The book returns to the year 3 AE, with Destra wandering Ritan, and a doctor rescuing her as the Sythians attack the world, and is the final time the third entry goes back in time, with Destra’s fate settled. That Ethan had been a married man causes Alara distress, and Admiral Heston somewhat struggles with his shaky alliance with the Gors, a number of events causing wavering loyalties.

Ethan further vows to deactivate the slave chip causing Alara to think she’s one of Brondi’s playgirls named Angel, and his son Atton has his own problems to deal with. Several twists about throughout the third installment that are key to its events, with a number of battles occurring, and Ethan Ortane having to confront his past. The occasional bounds back a few minutes or hours somewhat hamper the book’s chronology, but overall I found it a satisfying read like its predecessors, and will definitely continue reading the series to see what happens next in its universe.

Very good !

Towards the end of the second book I was a bit concerned that the third would not be able to keep up. I was very wrong, this book is very faced paced with lots of secrets and epic space battles. The revelation chapter was a specific example of the brilliant writing of Jasper T.Scott. The story is at a point where I can't wait to read on and see what happens in the next books!

If I had one flaw about these books its the lack of swear words as they are replaced with more PC alternatives "Frekking Kakaards" a fine example !!! However this doesn't effect the awesome story.

This book is where I lost interest.

Destra's character became a walking stereotype

Alara's continues to be one-dimensiona

The revelation about Hoff did nothing yo excite me and ultimately led me to drop the book.

I think the decision to eliminate the Gors came too fast.

I also dislike Atton's character extremely. His skills and knowledge just aren't realistic, nor are Alara and Ethan's piloting skills.

Wow! I loved this story. There were lots of twists and turns to keep me totally engrossed. I love a plot like this that you never really know who is the bad guy and who was the good guy. And who is real and who is a clone and then add in Gors and Sythians. And how long has everyone been around? Boy, do you ever have to pay attention to those twists now. I just can't wait to read more about Dark Space. Good writing again Jasper.

I had to go back and re-read part 2, before starting part 3. It was just a bit too long ago that I had picked up the story and I needed a refresher. I would not suggest one wait too long between segments. The parts are all closely knit together and is best enjoyed in a batch.

A culmination of the events in the previous two stories. It does tie up all of the loose ends from the previous books. These first three books should be read as a single work for maximum enjoyment. I was not a big fan of the "holoskin" approach, but it worked well enough in the end. I am not sure that I will be continuing this series. This book also sets up events for continuing the series with other adversaries. There is a lot of twists and turns in this series.

Have a GoodReads.

This one is a complete twister.

It’s unbelievable the imagination of the author Jasper T. Scott pulling so many twists in only one book of this series, it feels impossible but there it is he have done it.
And William Dufris narrating made it all feel just right.

This series is
absolutely recommended,

From My Newsletter Number 52:

This review is on Dark Space III: Origin by Jasper T. Scott. Mr. Scott is a relatively new author and this series is very popular in the UK as well as the US according Amazon.com website.

Dark Space III: Origin starts with Ethan’s wife, Destra, and her companion, Hoff, trying to stay alive and wait for rescue on a frozen planet called Ritan where they have been stranded for three years since fleeing the Sythians. It is a constant battle for survival.

Meanwhile, Ethan Ortane is in the brig on the Defiant for impersonating the Supreme Overlord Altarian Dominic. Deck Commander Loba Caldin is now in charge of the Defiant and ordered the arrest of Ethan and others for their roles in the loss of the Valiant and crew. The fate of the Imperium is now in jeopardy since the discovery of the Overlord deceptions.

Alec Brondi has captured the Valiant, but he is under attack from the inside by an unseen foe. His plan is to destroy the Defiant and all those under Admiral Hoff’s command so he can rule Dark Space and the rest of humanity. Of course, the Sythians and the Gors are still determined to eliminate all of humanity once they find them.

The war escalates to the point of destructive space battles between the two human camps and between the humans and the aliens. It seems as if humanity will destroy itself before the aliens do.

As the plot thickens another story line or theme develops that took me by surprise. It concerns the “Origin” of the human race and how the human race evolved. This theme starts to take over the original story as found in books one and two. It will be interesting to see how this develops in book four.

I give this story four stars because of the interesting characters, the twisting plot lines and the exciting space battle action scenes. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series called Dark Space IV: Revenge to see what happens to the characters.

For a good 2/3 of the book, this story took the same tact as its predecessor and just piling on the bleakness. Nothing ever goes right for anyone, and things just keep getting more and more depressing. Everything you hope would happen as a reader doesn't. But then, finally, things start taking a turn for the better. The subplots about Brondi, Admiral Hoff, Ethan/Atton/Destra, Illara, the Defiant, and the Valiant are finally resolved. We get a lot of back story about humanity's history, the Gors, and the Sythians. We're finally given an answer about why Sythians are attacking. This book gives a lot more satisfaction like book 1 did, and not like book 2. Overall, it was well worth a listen/read and I'm looking forward to the next book.

I listened to the audiobook, and as usual, the narrator does a fine job. His kid voices are incredibly annoying, but otherwise, he does a fine job.

Origin provides a satisfying and entertaining conclusion to the initial trilogy in Scott's Dark Space series. The trilogy has all the markings of a military sci-fi, including sweeping space battles, close quarter combat and futuristic weaponry . But, there is much more here. There are several well developed characters. Some are clearly good guys, some are clearly bad guys and some are hard to classify. But, all of them are flawed in some way - very human. There is love and betrayal. There are devious plots and unsolved mysteries. There are even moral issues to make the reader ponder their own beliefs. Thankfully the trilogy stands on its own and you're not left with unanswered questions or a cliff-hanger ending. Well maybe there are some unanswered questions, because Scott has created a universe that is rich with possibilities which makes you ask, "Where will he go next?"

Not as good as the previous books in the series. Instead of finishing the story properly it tries to do too much and as a result turns into a bit of a mess, going from one desperate situation to the next to keep the action going.

I personally didn't care much for the 'revelation' at the end that is supposed to explain what everything is really about. I hoped for a conclusive ending but (as often is the case) all that really happens is that the scope of the danger increases by an order of magnitude and much of the revelations are merely a setup for the next book.

Be that as it may I still think that this series is a welcome distraction from the more 'serious' SF I tend to pick.

Well... what to say unless... OMG! This book is amazing like the previous two one!

This serie is better and better with every book and I simply can't let it aside. And when I have to, it annoys me because I can't stop asking myself: "when will I be able to continue it again? What will happen next? OMG how will they survive to this?"

The plot is simply incredible, each new twist really wonderfully thought so even if you are surprised, you never are disappointed or think this is too much. You can be overwhelmed sometimes, but you just feel like the characters, having to deal with the revelations... and it's just great!

Wonderful work, Mr Scott! You are going to be my second favorite SCi-Fi author ever!

Origin is book 3 of the Dark Space series by Jasper T. Scott. I liked the ending. I thought for a while that the author was going to leave me with a major cliffhanger. I hate, hate, hate that, but thankfully he resolved enough of the major questions in the story that I felt satisfied and glad that I bought the three books, including the audio versions. He also left an opening for continuing the series. I decided to quit here. I Liked the series but I didn't love it. I'm not sure. Nevertheless, I felt my money and time was well spent. It was fun.
