I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Reghan is an investigative reporter who because of some daddy issues and getting burned by a man she was dating turning out to be married, likes to bust people on live t.v. for any hidden sordid past deeds. Dev is a police detective with a street kid past who ended up making good with the help of a fatherly cop mentor. When the two meet up there is instant chemistry but with a little digging Reghan finds out Dev is wanted for the murder of his stepfather that occurred many years ago. Reghan confronts him on live t.v. and needless to say Dev is not a happy camper with her and any relationship they start to have is kaput. Fast forward a couple months, Reghan has information about murders occurring that interestingly have a lot to do with Dev. There is a lot of mistrust but also a lot of chemistry as Reghan and Dev work together to try and solve the case.

This was the first book I have ever read from this author and I have to say I was really impressed. The writing is very descriptive, to the point I could easily see the scene as I read it. There is romance in the story but it almost takes a backseat to the suspense/murder arc. It's a very gritty story; if you like Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard then you definitely want to read this. No Hero is a very quick read as the story keeps you in its grip as it rolls along. The sexual tension between Reghan and Dev is hot but I did feel a little shorted on the sex scenes; maybe I'm just a pervert though.

Dev and Reghan are great solid characters. Reghan could annoy you with her major distrust issues but Dev you're going to want to eat up with a spoon with his dominating protective side. They work well together and apart each having interesting details that keep you invested in their story. There were at times I felt the writing got a little repetitive and the ending with them falling in love was rushed, they spend the majority of the book being growly, then warming up, and then suddenly together. The anticipation was excellent, the eventually payoff, not so satisfying.

Even with what I thought didn't work well with the story, there is a lot that did work well and it's enough for me to recommend this book. Again, if you are a fan of Linda Howard's writing and grittier suspense with some romance then this is for you. I'll definitely be giving this author another try.

Reghan loves her job as a reporter and has even succeeded at getting her own prime time show where she delivers the truth and nothing but. When she revealed the Detective Dev was not the hero everyone proclaimed him to be she was doing everyone a favor. Hero's do not exist and she proved that when she brought to light Devs secret past. Now months later and a murderer is running around town taking the lives of young teenage boys. These boys only have one thing in common. Dev! Reghan has to confront her actions against Dev when she realizes that she possibly .. probably holds the key to solving these murders. Swallowing her pride she decides she needs to see Dev and produce her evidence to him. She can't let another boy die if she can help it.
Dev can't believe his eyes when the woman who nearly destroyed his life comes barging back into it claiming to have the key to unlocking the identity of the killer. The boys dying are all from his shelter. Boys he knows and loves. He knows he shouldn't and can't trust her but if there is a chance she is being honest he needs to accept it in order to stop any more of his kids losing their future, their lives.
As the race against time to catch the killer before they strike again starts, Dev and Reghan struggle with their trust issues and the growing attraction between them that just keeps getting stronger and stronger. When things start to turn deadly for Reghan she is forced to admit that maybe just maybe heroes do exist and that her own personal one comes in the form of the man she once destroyed to prove he wasn't what people thought.
Can Dev and Reghan survive with not only them selves but their hearts in tact?

Predictable but oh so good. I loved this book and couldn't put it down. The anticipation and suspense between Dev and Reghan was brilliant, chuck in a psycho killer, protective instincts from a hot male lead and a few dangerous moments. And yes. A really enjoyable read that I would recommend. If I am being very honest there was nothing exceptionally brilliant about this book to make it stand out from the rest it is simply a very well written book with good characters, good suspense, a sweet but fragile romance and a lot to keep you turning the pages.

This is the first book I've read that's by Mallory Kane so I started reading it with no huge expectations. However, I was pleasantly surprised.

No Hero is a pretty standard mystery-romance novel. There's a serial killer on the loose that forces Reaghan Conner, a journalist with WACT and Detective Gautier, a cop - two people who pretty much hate each other's guts - work together. The reason for their hostility is because they have a past :

'From her point of view, she’d done a news story, telling the truth about him. But she knew he didn’t see it that way. From his perspective, they’d met three times. The first time they’d flirted, the second time they’d kissed, and the third time she’d ripped open the secrets of his past and torn a hole in his life.'

Reaghan had done a story on Dev while he trusted her and let her in. Obviously, it's not easy to forgive or get past but circumstances make these two team up and they set aside their differences. I have to say that while I wasn't immediately fond of Reaghan, I absolutely loved Dev; he's an incredibly sexy and strong hero. I also liked the journalist-cop relationship, it made me think of Dewey and Gale from the Scream films but with different personalities.

What really caught my interest while reading this book were the crimes. The story begins in a way that has your complete attention and while romance does play a big part, the focus was the mystery. Mallory Kane's writing is vivid and descriptive; the plot keeps you on the edge of your seat. In all honesty, sure the romance was hot but the serial-killer-storyline is pretty much made this book for me. I'm a huge fan of thriller, horror and mystery novels/movies so I loved reading this. The romance was more of an added bonus for me.

If No Hero was made into a movie, I would watch it. It's gripping, interesting and definitely movie material.

REVIEW: NO HERO by Mallory Kane
Non-stop action, surprises, and sensual tension fuel this intriguing romantic suspense mystery, set in lovely but often worn-out New Orleans. Some vicious killer has targeted at-risk teens. Many stay at a hostel program at which Detective Gautier mentors. Some consider him a hero, but not his former girlfriend, who provided an expose on his exploits, and now must reunite with the man she scorns before many more troubled adolescents are murdered.

A Series Debut Worth Attention

In The Big Easy, a couple of dead bodies garner more flies than interest, especially considering the victims are high risk runaways. Except these victims have a connection that TV news journalist Reghan Connor suspects is more than just a coincidence. One man, NOPD Detective Devereux Gautier, knew both victims, had helped both of them at the teen center he'd created during an eight month suspension he'd recently served. A suspension that Connor's unrelenting and unforgiving investigation into the detective's mysterious past had instigated.

Yeah, they have a past, she and the detective.

When she gets to the crime scene of the second victim and has her suspicions confirmed in gruesome fashion, Reghan has no choice but to acknowledge the truth. She may know who is behind the killings and she may know exactly why they're happening. If she's right, that means her and the black-eyed, surly detective are destined to have a future together, too. And for some reason that thought sends a frisson of sensation through her that far more closely resembles anticipation than dismay...

~*~

Mallory Kane kicks off her new romantic suspense series with the solid opening gambit that is Hard to Hold. It's clear very early into the book that the characters and backstory have been previously introduced, but not in such a way that made it difficult to follow the storyline here. I do wonder if some of my impressions during the final quarter of the book would have been different had I read the book that spawned this spin-off series, The Lawman Who Loved Her, a Harlequin Intrigue published in 2001. There were a couple of times I felt I was missing some information, but nothing that became significantly detracting.

I'm a big fan of the psychological thriller type of romantic suspense, and the suspense thread in this one was very entertaining. Kane creates a casually intense narrative with seeming ease, stacking up the bodies and focusing the investigation as the danger to the main characters climbs ever-higher. I never had any question about who the Big Bad was, but whether or not I'm surprised by a big reveal at the end has never been a determining factor in my level of appreciation for a book.

What is a factor is the appeal of the main characters. NOPD Detective Devereux Gautier, a name that couldn't be any more Cajun if it tried, is a dark, brooding, intense alpha male with a ton of baggage and a heart of gold he's kept so carefully hidden he doesn't even realize it's there. Absolutely nothing wrong with his intense, yummy goodness, trust me. He's hotter than the Louisiana bayou in August, and he's got the sort of maelstrom-behind-locked-doors presence that I find particularly appealing. Investigative reporter and TV news journalist Reghan Connor was more of a conundrum for me.

I honestly can't think of one single book I've read prior to this one that inspired such diametrically opposed feelings about one character. In the current events that comprise the suspense plot arc of the book, I liked her very much as a lead character. She's smart and stubborn, she's understandably fearful when the bad stuff starts to get directed at her, and yet she doesn't let that fear destroy her gutsy determination, and once a bad thing happens, she bounces back relatively quickly. She is not a whimpering victim. Those are all very big positives for me. Problem is, her backstory, her history with Dev, her initial attitude and a few of the things she says early in the book were so completely repugnant to me that I honestly would have cheered had she been an early victim of the killer. And not all the issues I had were resolved to my satisfaction by the end of the book.

I would have at least liked to see some genuine regret for the hand grenade she'd exploded all over Dev's life and maybe a small paradigm shift acknowledged given her desperation to protect her privacy at the end of the book. Without it she seemed fairly hypocritical, what with her initial assertion that facts and truth are the same thing and people deserve to know all the facts all the time. Ugh. Even now I shudder thinking of the highly implausible ignorant naivety she was spouting in the first few chapters. I really didn't like her very much at first.

Maybe that affected the appeal of the romance arc in the book. I'm not sure. I do think that story-wise, there was a bit of a disconnect with those plot threads. At the beginning, Connor said she'd met Dev exactly three times, one of those time when she'd dissected him in front of a TV camera for her television show. The results were ugly but she is quite clear of conscience (what little she has) about the whole thing and damn the consequences...or the reasons. Throughout the book, the focus of the story stays closer to the suspense than the romance, so by the end, when the inevitable HEA scenes started piling up, I hadn't been sufficiently drawn into any sort of emotional connection between Dev and Connor and hadn't been able to buy their sudden depth of feeling for each other. I was still stuck on the idea that Connor had a lot of apologizing and growing up to do emotionally and professionally, and I couldn't help thinking that without some severe grovelling, if I were Dev, I'd never forgive her.

As well written and cohesive as the suspense was in the book, the problems I had with Connor and the romance arc kept me from being completely satisfied with the read. I enjoyed the suspense plot quite a lot, though, and I'm really hoping the second book in the series features Rick. I think he was in all of two scenes in the whole book, but he so stole each one of them that I'm a bit desperate for his story. I'd love it, though, if the female lead in that book didn't have quite so tumultuous a past with whomever is going to be the lead male.

To See Review at Booked Up

Reghan Connor knows that there are no heroes. Her father left her when she was little and the man she thought she would share her live with confessed that he wasn’t leaving the wife Reghan knew nothing about.

There are no heroes, she wanted to tell her friend. Heroes and knights in shining armor were for kids’ fairy tales. In real life, people never lived up to expectations. That’s why they called it real life.

Five months after she uncovered the truth about NOPD Detective Devereux Gautier in her TV news program, The Real Story, she has to see him again.

From his perspective, they’d met three times. The first time they’d flirted, the second time they’d kissed, and the third time she’d ripped open the secrets of his past and torn a hole in his life.

Someone is killing his kids, the ones from Thibaud Johnson Center for Homeless Teens – the Center he built in honor of the man who saved him many years ago – and she may have information that could help Gautier find the assassin.

Reghan knew that Fontenot, the man she interviewed five months ago, had something going on with the dead teenagers. The way he spoke, the words he used, were proof of it.

Fontenot was a psychopath who had kidnapped and faked the death of Dana Maxwell, the wife of Dev Gautier’s ex-partner, Cody Maxwell. He’d spent the entire time raving about his plan for revenge against Devereux Gautier, whom he blamed for putting him in prison.

After three youth turn up dead, Reghan's house is vandalized and she is attacked. She realizes that Fontenot has lost the control over the assassin; he never wanted Reghan to be hurt or attacked. And her visit to the prison where he was held, after another murder, confirms her beliefs. Will Dev discover the assassin’s identity in time to save Reghan’s live? Or he’ll lose the love of his live?

Suspense lovers, this is your book. You can’t miss it. I love all the characters, especially Dev. He is a real hero, Reghan realizes it by the end of the book.

Although he had a horrible childhood. His stepfather tried to kill Dev after killing his sister and when Dev fight back with a baseball bat, Dev kills him and then lives two years on the street. By the age of fourteen, he finds a savior. Thibaud Johnson changed his name and helped him to build a better live.

“Maybe someday, I can be the man he thought I could be.”
“You already are. Dev, you’re a hero, a real live hero. These kids worship you.”

Here are two quotes of him I love:

“Okay, I’ll pack for you,” he said reasonably. “Where do you keep your underwear?”
“You fill a place inside me … that’s been empty a very long time. I don’t … ever want to be empty again.”

The suspense was perfectly created, I never found out who the criminal was until the end. Which leads me to a question, who was the one who attacked Reghan? Ms Mallory Kane, if you read this, could you tell me if it was the accomplice who attacked her? Now my rating … 5 very deserved stars.

OOOH, I love this author! I really enjoy the romantic suspense genre and I adore this author. I've never ready anything by her, but I know that she'll be a staple from this point on. Okay, okay, okay ... where to start ... from the very beginning of the novel, you are just thrown into this story that is already in progress. Now, not every author who does this can pull it off. But Mallory Kane does. This isn't part of a series or anything, you're just plopped right into the middle of the action from the get-go. I think that it really worked with this one. If the author had started the novel where this whole story began, it would have been a gazillion pages and you would have been bored. With the way it was done, you're playing this mini game of catch up and it makes the story even more exciting!

The characters were amazingly lovable. I was afraid that the main character would be this predictable, simpering wimpy lady that would drive me nuts but she wasn't. She was this spunky character that you can't help but get attached to and root for. And the hero that isn't a hero was amazing as well. I couldn't get enough of him. I really enjoy a damaged character and this one was perfect.

All in all, a gripping novel that I really couldn't get enough of. I enjoyed every hair-raising moment. Normally, I would have given this novel a 5-star rating but I picked out the bad guy pretty quickly. Within the first couple of chapters. Even with knowing what would happen, I loved this book and I'll definitely pick up something else from this author. It really doesn't matter if you can predict what will happen when the writing is this stellar. Love, love, love!!

I love stories that are set in New Orleans. The atmosphere of that one of a kind city provides just the right touch of magic and mystery no matter the genre. Mallory Kane does a wonderful job with this suspense tale full of twists and turns as Detective Dev Gautier is on the hunt for the murderer of homeless teens who he knows and mentors personally. Reghan is a reporter on the scent of a story and she has more than butted heads with Dev before. At first, you won't like Reghan very much. She is whats wrong with with modern journalism, reporting on things that are black and white but never seeing the gray areas, or the damage it can do. The killer leaves clues that force Reghan and Dev to join forces as they must hurry and find him before more kids are killed. Dev and Reghan have a hard time fighting the attraction between them, but they make a good team and each learns things that help them grow closer in spite of their past meeting. Ms Kane does a great job here with this story and I am looking forward to her next.

Argh!! You made me cry!!!

So many novels lean towards murder or towards love. This novel had me in tears at the end. If you want a novel that doesn’t just tug at the heart strings but rips them away... this is your book.

The slightly flawed lead lend credence to this story. Seems more like a news story with emotions that a ‘romance novel’.

Must read. Bring tissues.

The steam in this book had me begging for more. No Hero was a crime novel with romance threaded through it, which I loved. Mallory produced a brilliant build-up both through the murders and the enemies to lovers storyline. Tension littered every page until I was shouting at the brooding and hot main characters to solve the crime and get it on. No spoilers, though…

Started out good but then went downhill.

A lot of inner dialogue which I don’t care for. She says how tired he looks and then goes on to say how good looking he is. They both make long trips to a prison to talk to a prisoner and return and barely talk about it.

Has sex on a couch after she was injured. Yeah really that’s all you’re thinking of.

Heavy on the mystery, light on the romance. Well developed characters. Gets off to a slow start with a lot of background filler. Picks up with a lot of suspense, angst, and learning secrets. It was a good story and well written. Unfortunately, and hence the 4 star rating, it became predictable too early on.

Yes a hero

This is a very good contemporary suspense story with a romance in the making. A lot of murder with not a clue who is actually the murder as the suspect is in prison. A great read.

Ms. Kane wastes no time getting into the story: A kid, who was apparently meeting someone, is murdered on an abandoned wharf in New Orleans. His throat slit, he staggers backward and falls into the Mississippi.

It's 4:30am and Reghan Connor is on the phone with a source. Another boy found with his throat slit? Another kid from the Thibaud Johnson Center for Homeless Teens murdered?

Shocked awake by the news, her first thought? "She knew who the killer was. " Followed closely by the fear that she could have prevented it. If only she'd warned Detective Devereaux Gautier of the threats against him.

Reghan and Dev have a brief history. Having dated once, literally, their attraction is strong; their feelings unresolved. And it's likely to stay that way, as Reghan - intrepid WACT reporter - blindsided Dev, on the air, with her investigation into his background. A revelation that resulted in a 3-month suspension, a trip to Seattle to answer murder charges, and nearly cost Dev his job.

So, when Reghan tells him that she has tape of a psychopath threatening to destroy everything Dev values, he's doesn't want to believe her. And, despite the attraction, does not want to get involved with her again. He knows he can't trust her and the feeling is mutual.

Then Reghan's house is vandalized and another of Dev's boys is killed. Like it or not, she and Dev are forced to work together to catch a murderer. When Reghan is attacked, Dev moves her into the center, for her own safety. But will the temptation be too great?

The real question is: can a woman who doesn't believe in heroes and a man who swears he is no hero, learn to trust each other? Can they trust themselves enough to love? And who is killing Dev's kids?

This is my first venture into Deep Sexy from Entangled Publishing. And I'll admit, I was worried; worried that the 'Sexy' would overwhelm the 'Deep.' Afraid that the mystery would take a backseat to steamy love scenes.

My concerns were unfounded. Mallory Kane knows how to balance intrigue and romance. With more than 2 dozen novels to her credit, it's no wonder she was chosen as one of the launch authors for Entangled Publishing's new electronic imprint.

Admittedly, there were several times that I felt as though I'd walked in during the second act of an unfamiliar play. You know? That vague sensation of not getting an inside joke. Visiting the author's website gave me the answer: Dev's story was planned/written as a sequel to a 2001 Harlequin Intrigue title.

It doesn't detract from the novel, as a whole. This is a page-turner that I read in two sittings. Just, obviously, what happens when you don't read the first book - first.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a complimentary electronic copy of this book from the publisher <http://www.entangledpublishing.com/>. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

MICHELLE'S REVIEW:

RATING : 4.75 UBER SMEXI DEV STARS!

Reghan Connor, reporter, and a thorn in Detective Gautier Devereux’s side. What Reghan did to Dev, was devastating, and humiliating. Did she have any of her I’s dotted, her T’s crossed, before she slung the mud?

With her own tv programme titled, ‘The Real Story’, well, she didn’t have it on Dev. She does redeem herself in my eyes and Dev’s as the story unfolds, but still, tough blow, low blow.

The setting, New Orleans, Louisiana, hot and sweltering, a bit like the smexi detective. You are going to love Dev. He ticks all the boxes, he doesn’t let Reghan back into his life easily. Yes they have a past, albeit a short one after she blew it up.

There is a killer amongst them killing Dev’s boys, the lads he has given scholarships to. Dev did not have a great up bringing, he was on a path that was sending him one way, until he met the wonderful Thibaud Johnson, a cop with a good heart.

I love Angel’s like Thibaud Johnson, they are special people.

Dev runs the , ‘Thibaud Johnson Center’ , for homeless teens. He gives them that second chance at life. Penn, his surrogate sister and her daughter Katie live with him and help run the center while he is playing detective to pay the bills. I loved seeing Dev in this environment, paying it forward.

The boys are one by one being violently killed... it ain’t pretty.

Now, I did pick the minion, as I was paying close attention to the suspects Mallory Kane was dishing out to the reader. I have always looked at mystery, thriller books in a Kojak / Columbo kind of way, minus the cigar and chuppa chup. This book will have you throwing accusations about. I picked the minion originally, but then Mallory was swaying my mind, I just kept gathering bits to support my minion theory, barely grasping onto my theory as Mallory was very good at trying to keep our brain guessing. She was trying to get the reader to flop about like a fish out of water with ‘who-dun-it’ theories.

Dev has made an enemy in Fontenot. I won’t go into the whys, you can read about that. He is a piece of mind games, work. You assume he is the puppet master, because he pretty well tells the reader he is, but then there are twists, that I loved .

This is an awesome thriller that will keep you guessing, when you think you are on the ‘who-dun-it’ path, Mallory will try to convince you otherwise, throw in a hunk of man, a girl who learns her lesson the hard way and you have a great thriller, mystery, smexi read.

I liked the way Rick Easterling popped up at a certain time, he sounds possibly the next dishy lad that could win a few hearts......I wonder if we get a Rick story?

FAVE QUOTES:

He felt in his pocket for the hankerchief he'd been taught by Thibaud to always carry. Never know when a lady will need a hanky, boy. You make sure you got one for her.

It don't help to run when you're hauling about what you're running from.

From the first page until the last No Hero provided me with the taut suspense that I love in a romantic suspense book. The emphasis in this book is on the suspense, but don't let that fool you, there is definitely heat between Reghan and Dev and you feel it page after page. But what I felt most was the driving need to find out who the bad guy was and how the book would turn out. That is what kept me turning the pages.

Dev and Reghan are great characters. Dev had a flawed childhood and he's trying to make up for it now. Reghan's view of the world is skewed and she believes that there can be no heroes and everyone has something to hide. Add to this interesting chemistry the fact that these two have kissed in the past so there is some definite sparks going between them and you definitely have the romance heating up. But I liked each character on their own. Dev wants to do what is right and he cares. Reghan is trying to do what she thinks is right but learns through experience about caring for people. It makes a great story right there with just their experiences, but it's not limited to that.

Then Ms. Kane adds in the extraordinarily plotted suspense storyline. Who is killing the boys that Dev is getting off the streets. You think it's obvious who is pulling the strings, but who is actually doing it? That is the question that haunted me through the reading. And wow, Ms. Kane can take you on quite a ride in a little less than 200 pages. A lot is packed into this book and it is very hard to put down. The thrills and chills keep coming until almost the very last page where things are tied up nicely. No complaints here at all with how the suspense was handled, especially for a shorter book. Ms. Kane doesn't waste time, she jumps right in and then gives backstory when it's necessary and it works really well.

Suspense that is spine-tingling mixed with romance that sparks is a great mix and No Hero has it in spades. I loved this book and can't say enough. As one of the books launching the Dead Sexy imprint for Entangled Publishing I know I will be checking out more of this line and I will also be checking out more of Ms. Kane's work. I'm not sure how I missed her in the past, but I will make sure to rectify that situation soon.

This is my first Mallory kane novel but I have recently discovered my love of romantic suspenses and crime scenes and both are present in no hero.
Dev is a detective on a case of serial murders where boys from his rehab center are showing up dead with slit throats.
It don’t help to run when you’re hauling around what you’re running from.
Dev on the outside looks like an asshole cop but the glipses we get into his life you realize hes broken, bent and emotionally dying.

Dev was born John Devrow but became Devereux Gautier to make a man named Thibaud proud and to be the nephew he never had.
The homicide against the poor boys was very saddening. They were killed with probably a scapel while they were craning to look at or for something which exposes their carotid and easy slice and a push in the river is lights out. –it is suspected they all knew their killer…
Reghan doesn’t believe in heroes.. her daddy (her hero) stopped loving her and her ex fiancé did too and that’s when heroes disappeared for her. And Dev doesn’t believe in love. He loved his sister she died, he loved his father and his father killed his sister.
While Dev starts trusting Reghan again her house gets vandalized with the phrase “leave him alone or regret it” –the problem is no one for sure knows who has the vendetta! Then her bathroom has the phrase “ I knew you wouldn’t listen bitch “
The mystery serial killer is fascinating it is a bit slow though. (totally did not catch it till the very end)
The sex/romance is very mellow very fade to black so it would be easily received.
This was just an awesome read all in all.

The Dead Sexy Imprint by Entangled is an assortment of books from the great Authors of Entangled that are packed with mystery, romance and suspense and mind blowing writing. I had the pleasure of reading No Hero by Mallory Kane and I have never read a book like this. It had so many things going on that I could not put it down. I kept reading early into the morning because I had to find out what happened to boys.

In this Mystery and romance Dev is a detective who is helping boys get off the street and into good homes before they end up dead. See there is a serial killer on the lose and will stop at nothing to kill these boys. The killer believes that they will not get caught because the boys are unwanted and unaccounted for but the killer will realize soon enough that Detective Gautier will stop at nothing to catch this killer. He has a soft spot for these boys because of his upbringing and he will team up with the most unlikeliest person Meg a reporter who nearly destroyed his life by reporting the facts as she saw it in regards to Detective Gautier's past life. Will Dev open his heart up to Meg after she tore it open? Will he forgive her for the past?

Meg is a reporter for the news and Detective Gautier wants to team up with her to catch the serial killer but the only thing that is holding her back is the fact that she knows he hates her and she is worried at first about working with him. Once she gets over her initial apprehensions they begin to work together and that kiss that they shared ions ago sparks more than a few flames. As they get closer to solving who the murderer is the romance between them starts to heat up. When Meg and Dev do figure out who the killer is it is not who they expected. Will Meg open up her heart to Dev? Will she learn that sometimes news can destroy a person? Will she learn what true love is? Will she give her heart to Dev?

For one hell of a ride read No Hero! It will keep you up and down and in the end between the romance and the suspense and the back drop story you will be clutching your Kindle or Nook, I know I was! Happy Beach Reading from Entangled! In one word this book is CALIENTE!

What do you do when you have information on the death's of 2 teenagers that could be vital to the investigation but the person that you need to give that information to is someone you personally attacked on your talk show outing his former life and your pretty sure he hates you.

Reghan Conner is a investigative journalist with WACT. Reghan lets her past define how she views life today and how she goes after her subjects. Because of what her father and an ex fiance did to her she thinks the worst of men - that they are no heroes and all have something to hide and its her job to find out what that is and expose it, regardless of who it hurts. As long as its the truth she doesnt see anything wrong with it.

After interviewing an convicted psychopath named Gerard Fontenot five months before at his request she realizes now that the things he told her then were about the current murders of the teens and that they were to hurt detective Dev Gautier the man who's life she tried to ruin many months ago.

Dev Gautier is no hero. He had a horrible childhood and was on the road to living his life in jail when a New Orleans policeman took him in and changed his life forever. Dev vowed that he would help other teens like and runs a center and mentors the at-risk teens. He is devastated when his boys start turning up dead.

When Reghan comes to him with her story he has a hard time being civil to her after what she did to him but once he watches the video and Reghan starts getting treats he cant just turn his back on her. And when more of his teen's turn up dead and an attempt on Reghan's life is made he vows now one else will be hurt that he cares about.

Both Reghan and Dev have to work through there issues to find the killer. They also cant deny that the attraction that was there before is still there between them .

So who is the killer? Since Gerard is in jail who is he getting to pull off these murders.. The answer may surprise you.

I received this book as an e-ARC free from Netgalley. Below is my review.

I am a long-time fan of Kane's books. So, it's pretty hard to say that while I liked this one, there were elements of it that really, really didn't sit well with me.

Dev Gautier and Reghan Connor have been at loggerheads ever since Reghan, an investigative journalist with a penchant for "gotcha journalism" reveals Dev's painful past by blindsiding him on her show. It nearly cost Dev his job on the police force, his future, and his desire to help street kids. When Dev's kids (from his shelter) start dying, it's Reghan who ties the murders to an incarcerated enemy of Dev's.

Dev doesn't trust Reghan at all. She's cost him too much. But she has vital clues to the murders and their chemistry is off the charts. Reghan doesn't trust Dev: she's learned the hard way that all heroes have feet of clay and Dev is no different. But he is just so darn sexy. It that were all, this book would have fizzled fast. Instead, the investigation takes a rather personal turn as Reghan is suddenly also targeted.

Dev takes the serve and protect part of his job very seriously and he needs to protect both his kids and Reghan. So, the two of them work to solve the case, avoid emotional entanglements, and save Dev's kids. Somehow in all that, they fall in love. It's a sweet story but also a bittersweet story.
