Lesson In Love #4

Drives Me Crazy

Rate this book
What happens when Miss Perfect 🎓 meets Mr. Penalty? ⚽️

He’s a rulebreaker with heart. She’s a rule follower with ambition. Can teaming up on a college service project abroad bring these two opponents together? Together, they might just rewrite each other’s playbooks.

I’m wearing many hats my senior year at Thatcher College—Sorority president, Honor Code Review member, Beyond Borders Teaching Chair—and there are just six more months until graduation. All my careful planning is paying off, just like my parents and I knew it would. The one hiccup? Or maybe the solution? Enlisting, or rather coercing, the help of soccer player Diego Delarosa. And when I say player, I mean player. At least that’s what I’ve always thought—cocky, frustrating, infuriating … and possibly the exact kind of chaos I didn’t know I needed. Who knew a routine teaching trip would lead to an adventure of a lifetime?

Soccer is my life. My future. My everything. No backup plan needed—especially not one designed by a bossy, high-achieving blonde with a folder for everything. But when I get caught skipping a class I technically passed, I’m sentenced to two weeks of community service in a small town in Mexico under the watchful eye of Valerie Perkins, a.k.a. Miss Perfect. She’s driven, intimidating, and way out of my league … and I can’t stop thinking about her. This was supposed to be a punishment. Turns out, it might be the best play I’ve ever made.

Welcome back to Thatcher College, where opposites attract and worlds collide. The Lesson in Love series features interconnected, new adult standalone romances set on a small, private college campus in New England where the good girl gets stuck with the bad boy, and she’s not happy about it. “but she’s here now, and she’s mine… for the moment.”

ah! this book was literally way too cute. i didn’t have the best experience with the last book in this series, but tara september really got me with this one. i adored both diego and valerie as characters and enjoyed every moment of the romance that blossomed between them. despite being complete opposites of each other, they manage to bring out the best in one another.

this was such a quick and cute read — and honestly, i was left wanting more of their romance when it came to an end.

this is a big rec for anyone looking for a quick fluffy sports based enemies to lovers novella.

thank you to tara september for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Book 4 in the Lessons of Love series is an enemies to lovers short story. Full disclosure, I did not read books 1-3 and because it’s a short love story, I wish I did. More backstory of why they bicker and don’t get along would have helped push that premise. Just needed more. May consider going back and starting from the beginning to get to know the group of college friends better.

I received a copy free from Book Sirens and am leaving my opinion for what it’s worth.

Drives Me Crazy by Tara September is a charming college sports romance novella of two opposites in a classic dislike-to-lovers setup. Set in Thatcher College, the story follows Valerie Perkins, a high-achieving sorority president with a color-coded planner for everything, and Diego Delarosa, a cocky soccer star who is sent for community service in Mexico as a disciplinary action, together with Valerie. What begins as punishment quickly turns into a sizzling, emotional detour neither of them expected.

However, this detour happened a little too quickly for my liking! The initial chemistry between Valerie and Diego with their playful banter was promising. Their moments during initial phase of the service were wholesome. But it soon became a little too cheesy and I just wanted it to get over! And thank the Gods, it did because it was a novella. The buildup of the parental expectations on Valerie eventually fell flat for me.

Still, Drives Me Crazy overall can be a fun, flirty escape with heart and heat. If you enjoy college sports romances and can bear a bit of cheesy stuff, you may give this 140-page novella a try!

This was a cute interconnected standalone. I can confirm you do not need to read the novellas prior to this one to know what’s going on! I intentionally did not before I read my ARC of Drives Me Crazy and it held up all on its own.

This story follows Diego and Valerie who seem to be polar opposites on paper - Diego the care-free soccer star and Valerie the overly structured academic - but they realize they have more in common than they realize when they both travel to Mexico for a volunteer trip with their college.

This novella has little to no spice, all closed door/fade to black scenes and their romance was perfectly balanced with the plot. A great read if you want something quick to read in one sitting!

This is a super cute sports novella that is part of a series, but is fine as a standalone! We have, Diego, the soccer star playboy and Valerie, the do good, study hard girl super focused on her future. When Diego ends up in front of Valerie on the review board, she determines his punishment is a trip to Mexico to help teach kids how to play soccer.

I loved the banter and relationship between Diego and Valerie. They both are good for eachother and this book does a good job at sending the message of being true to yourself. This book is perfect if you're looking for a solid short romance read with a sports theme to it! 4 stars from me

This was my first soccer romance and I’m happy to say I enjoyed it. Diego and Valerie were both likable characters, and honestly aside from Mr. Lowe I think I liked all the side characters as well.

The short chapters were great. I read this while making dinner so that was a nice little bonus for me to have time to read a couple chapters then get up to check the food without having to leave on a suspenseful note.

Overall I enjoyed the whole storyline except for why he was sent to the review board. I’ve had professors tell us they didn’t care if you showed up or not as long as you turned the work in so I guess that just baffled me.

This is a cute and quick read! We follow Valerie and Diego as they work together on a service project in Mexico. This has a few of my favorite tropes (enemies to lovers & fake dating.) They were two very likable characters who were so easy to root for.

Drives Me Crazy follows the story of college schoolmates Valerie and Diego. Valerie (Perfect) and Diego meet because she is tossing down the hammer on his unethical class behavior. Apparently, you have to show up to class to get credit and not just do the work? Anyway, this adorable novella follows them to Mexico for two weeks during a community building initiative.

Diego is tasked with teaching the local kids about soccer (futbol) and Valerie is heading the program this year. They fake date, then real date and honestly, it's just an adorable read with little to no conflict, under 300 pages, and sports romance.

If you're looking for an easy read, this is your jam baby!

So if you've read the previous books, which I think helps a lot to understand where the surprise of these two ending up together comes from, you know Diego's less than stellar reputation with the ladies and his nickname that coincides with that. The playboy meets his match though when forced to work with Valerie, and the two discover love that has the power to change their life plans. I thought this was a cute short story and the narrators brought thevstory to life.

This is the first I've read from Tara, and I absolutely loved it! The novella itself was kisses only, but the extended epilogue is where some spice can be found. I did not miss the spice, at all, and still felt every ounce of chemistry & tension between our characters!

Valerie's life has been planned out since she was a child and she feels uncomfortable moving away from it...even when she really wants to be brave. Diego, however, has no plans except making it to an MLS team.

When he comes up against some troubles at school, she is the one who ultimately saves him with her plan to force him to assist in an international teaching program. While they are away, the tension continues to ratchet up several levels as they learn more about both themselves & each other.

If you're looking for a swoony & low angst novella, you will not regret this one!

ARC Review of Drives Me Crazy by Tara September
* * * * *
When little miss perfect meets the school big shot, and are about to go the adventure that will change their lives and their feelings towards one another.

Diego was completely focused on his future and getting there as fast as possible, not wanting to waste his time with attending ethics class. However, it seems the school isn't really too keen on this idea. So, thanks to Valerie - a pretty goodie girl - he's being swept off to San Miguel de Allende.
No longer on his crisp green feilds back at the university, he's teaching the local kids on dirt while connecting with the community. That's what his main focus SHOULD be. Yet, his attention is back on Valerie.
With her parents demanding she meet high expectations, she is loving Mexico and hoping to get Diego to be more in touch with those around them. As they bond, feelings evolve, and that's after they fake a relationship!
Can they make things work when they return to the lives they knew before Mexico?

A sweet mellow college romance to fill in the day. Cute banter and easy going romance build. Valerie may know what her parents demand of her, but even she is strong enough to not let them walk all over Diego. Lovely program and the way they reach out to everyone around them. Another enjoyable read from Tara September.

Drives Me Crazy - Tara September

This was my first time reading this author and after finishing this one I can gladly say I will be going to grab some more books! I also think this may be my first soccer romance and gosh I need so many more now. This one was a short and fast read but totally had me in a chokehold the entire time. Valerie and Diego are such opposites and when Diego was found to not be going to class he ends up in front of the board. Which Valerie is apart of. With that they end up in Mexico together for some community service. Without giving away to much more this book has some amazing character growth for both characters and I so recommend checking it out!

If you like to read:

… You should definitely check this out

“She smells like everything I want and nothing I deserve.”

Valerie has her whole future planned out and now with only 6 months left before graduation she only last thing she needs to complete, the Beyond Borders Teaching Initiative mentorship program. One potential problem is she has to work with Diego, a soccer player and player in all the ways.
Diego is not happy having to be part of the program, after all it is part of his punishment for skipping some classes. Bad enough that he has to miss a soccer league showcase, he also has to spend all his time with Valerie aka Miss Perfect.
They’re as opposites as can be, the good girl and the bad boy. As they’re forced to work together they realize that maybe they misjudged each other too fast. Can this program also bring these two together for an adventure of lifetime that will forever change their future?

I just love how they balance each other so well. They challenge each other to think outside of their norm and be the best version of themselves.

It’s an adorable light hearted, opposites attract, soccer romance novella with a dash of fake dating and all the feels.

Diego is one of the star soccer players in Thatcher University but he might miss his spot in the team due to how he is passing some classes, Valerie comes up with a plan that should help them both, her getting points for the next step in her career and him putting the incident behind.

Both are really focused on their goals, soccer and studies, and although they look like a strange pair, they make it work. The stoey makes them see each other and change enough to find they are really complementary.

I've enjoyed their journey and the lightness in the story, it seems easy but I think the main message it gives you is that you just have to have an open mind and try your best, always, as what define us are our reactions to what happens to us. It's also been wonderful to be with characters of previous books in the series.

I loved this book; it was exciting and had me turning the pages until I reached the end. I thought the storyline was original, well-written, and the pace of the book was spot on. I like a good slow-burning romance, but I prefer books like this that move the story along at a good pace. The characters were hilarious, complex, and had an intense and undeniable chemistry. I loved their banter and clapbacks with each other. This book is a sports romance that has enemies-to-lovers, different worlds, an obsessed and possessive MMC, and a smart FMC with attitude and a stubborn streak. Together, they are the pure example of a powder keg getting ready to explode. Tara September is an amazing author. I love her writing style that can bring all sorts of emotions up in me. I laugh, get a little teary-eyed, and fist-pump a few times. This book was filled with drama, angst, and spice, and kept me turning the pages. I can't wait to see what comes next from this author.

What happens when Miss Perfect and Mr. Penalty Box meet?

This is just one of those books that makes you feel good when reading it. It was such a delightful, endearing story.

Valerie and Diego couldn't be more different. She's got her entire future mapped out and he flies by the seat of his pants. But when Diego's questionable academic choices lands him in hot water, its either spend two weeks in Mexico with Valerie teaching kids or getting kicked off the soccer team. And you can guess what he chooses.

Valerie and Diego find themselves continuously drawn to one another until sparks fly and they find themselves unable to resist one another.

This fast-paced enemies-to-lovers novella is full of banter, wit, and growth.

I loved watching the way their relationship grew and how they went from a place where they were fully focused on their own goals and plans to being willing to sacrifice what they've always wanted for each other.

Opposites attract, and then bring out the best in the other in this fast-paced sports romance that is packed full of banter and wit. But at its heart its about not being afraid of embracing who you really are and not who others want you to be.

Its a sweet, endearing story that had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion and swooning at all the right times.

This is a closed-door, sweet romance with a lot of heart. There is a mildly spicy bonus chapter you can also download.

When college football (soccer) star Diego is caught skipping class he must take part in the Beyond Borders Teaching trip to Mexico as part of his ‘community service’, under the supervision of ‘Miss Perfect’ Valerie. The two couldn’t be more different, but spending two weeks together helping teach and guide kids, they can’t deny the attraction between them. Will they give in to what they really want? Or will they go their separate ways as soon as they’re back in college?

I loved this! It was super short but I was sucked in from the start! I wouldn’t be mad to have another book about these two! Honestly loved every second of this story!

“That’s the thing about time—you either use it or lose it.” - Diego

Drives Me Crazy by Tara September is a short and sweet rom-com that doesn’t take itself too seriously—and that’s part of its charm. I finished it in under two hours and had a good time along the way.

The story leans more on the quirky/sweet side of romance with light banter and fun character vibes. Nothing too deep or angsty, just a breezy little escape. It does wrap up a little loosely, which might leave some readers wishing for just a bit more, but it still felt like a complete read.

No spice here—just some innuendo and chemistry, so it’s perfect for readers who prefer their romance on the tamer side.😌

**Miss Perfect/Mr. Penalty**

"Drives Me Crazy" is the fourth book in the Lesson in Love series, and I have to say, it's a delightful read! This was my first adventure into the series, and it works perfectly as a standalone. The story is a charming, sweet romance that falls into the enemies-to-lovers category, but I feel it leans more toward the opposites attract trope.

In the book, we follow Valerie and Diego as they spend two weeks together in Mexico for a fun teaching program. Their time there not only helps them get to know each other better, but it also has a positive impact on their careers. I think you’ll really enjoy this fast-paced, light-hearted love story, which also incorporates a touch of family drama. It’s perfect for a cozy read in one sitting!

This is a cute, sweet, fun, entertaining, quick read. I love Diego and Valerie as individuals and a couple. Their growth throughout the book is well done and captivating. These two are fun to spend time with. I also love that we get cameos from other characters in the series and ones maybe yet to come. This is a fun world to be in and I love getting to return to it. The story is easy to read and get into.

POV: Dual, First person
Main Characters: Diego and Valerie
OW(M)/Cheating: No.
3rd act breakup: No.
Instalove: No.
Series: 4th in the Lessons in Love series
Spice: The door didn’t open until the bonus epilogue (that you had to sign up for the newsletter to get).
Writing: The writing flows easily. I was a little concerned about the portrayal of them falling in love over the course of two weeks while in Mexico. It was okay, but what sealed the four stars is that you get to see them day to day after coming back. I found myself smiling and feeling giddy at how cute Diego and Valerie are together.
Editing: Very well edited.

Available on KU: Yes.
Trigger Warnings: None.

This book was too cute!!!

One of the best novellas I’ve read in a long time. I instantly connected with Diego and Valerie. I liked how we got more chapters from Diego’s POV, because I liked being in the MMC’s head more lately.

While it was a little speedy at times, for a novella I thought it was perfect. We get to see our favorite college and explore a bit of Mexico. It was a fun read!

I’ve been in a book funk lately and sort of stressed. This book provided me with a quick read that didn’t have much chaos or conflict. This is perfect if you want to escape your current world and simply relax for a couple hours.

Thank you to The Author Agency for sending me an ARC of this. This was my first introduction to the author and to the series and I did enjoy it, but I kind of wish I read the other books in the series just to get a better grasp of our two main characters in the series. Diego and Valerie are our main characters and they are enemies to lovers in this short and sweet novella. He’s a soccer player and very focused on that while she is focused on school as it’s her senior year. Although it was quick, I enjoyed watching them fall for each other and booth of them realized there is more for them in the world. I definitely want to read the other books to get to know their friends!!

Drives me Crazy is part of the Lessons in Love series, and I think it’s the best one so far.
I totally loved Valerie and Diego together. Who could have known that these opposites in character would be so attracted to one another! Certainly not them! Such a sweet ending and a cute epilogue.

This review is based on the audiobook. Both narrators (Alan Stone & Sylvia Gonçalves) did a good job. I really enjoyed listening to them!.

This is a soccer, closed door, college romance. Both the characters are very likeable and the story flows well. I enjoyed reading how they fell hard for each other as they got to really know one another. They both lifted the other in different ways.

Valerie is the schools top person. Not just student but person because of all she does not only inside but also outside the classroom. Diego is the player. He has charisma for miles and uses it to his advantage until he passes a class without ever attending. This is how he finds himself in front of the review board and Valerie offering him a way to get the volunteer hours he was assigned done quickly. He has no choice but to accept the offer and there begins their journey.

This is a short read and I read in one sitting.
Diego is your super star soccer player while. Valerie is deemed as “miss perfect”. Diego has liked Valerie since he first laid eyes on him but she has no desire to be with a “player”. When they are forced together, you see their relationship start to develop. I thought they were both cute, and enjoyed the read.
