Orgasmic Texas Dawn

Rate this book
Canadian cop Kieran Fox has fallen from grace after a disastrous romance with the wrong guy—the head of a drug cartel. When Sheriff Dillon DePriest moseys on up north begging Kieran to come to his town of Lone Trail, Texas, to help him deal with a gang of murderous drug dealers, Kieran agrees, if only to get away from the scene of his own crime.

Soon thereafter, Kieran learns that the tough little Texas town is knees-deep in an escalating mystery. There’s a cross-dressing Cher impersonator, a killer missing some gold teeth and his...er...dangly bits. And worse, there’s Kieran’s growing attraction for Lone Trail’s sexy U.S. Marshal, Jubilee Mason, that he neither wants nor needs.

So how could you not want to read this - with a guy named Jubilee and a Cher impersonator and someone missing his dangly bits? Count me in - Ride em COWBOY!

Edit: Completed the book. It was a fun ride - lot of slapstick type humor. Stereotypes (on purpose) and caricatures make this one engaging. The only thing marring it was that I had to go back a few times to make sure I knew whose viewpoint I was reading. POV switches were a bit rough at times. This one is funny - both in its intentional funny spots as well as the more hidden areas. It does end with a to be continued...but it's not really a cliffhanger. It is a unique book, a bit strange, and a nice change from the same-o-same-o that is out there!

UPDATE ON THIS REVIEW Aug 2013:
I gave this 2 stars but now that I've discovered it wasn't finished, I've removed the 2 stars but I'll keep the review below as reference. I will start on the series only when it's complete.

This was a very uneven book. Once Kieran Fox got to that Texas small town, I had a hard time figuring out what the story was about. I know there's some kind of plot in there but I don't know what it was. The two MCs were so alike I couldn't tell them apart and because the story is written in alternate 1st Person POV, this book was a bit of a disaster for me. I'm going to have to find a review that will give me a detailed synopsis just so that I can recoup a few cents.

Up to the halfway mark, the MCs have kissed but there's no sex. I haven't a clue this book was given such a misleading title. Looks like it's back to trolling the free slash sites and fanfic sites again.

Kieran Fox is reeling from a disastrous romance which has left him jobless. He’s head-hunted by a Texas Sheriff and finds himself in the town of Lone Trail, Texas to put a stop to murders and drug deals. Jubilee is a US Marshal who’s on a task force that is digging into the drug cartel. Teaming up with Kieran is a great idea when the bad guys begin to drop, but the attraction between Kieran and Jubilee could be a problem in small town Lone Trail…as well as the problem of Jubilee’s closet door.

Oooohhhh!! now this was a great mixture of excitement, danger, banter, interesting characters, astounding pets and the beginning of a romance with obstacles to overcome. Kieran has been badly burnt in his last romance and has no plans for a new one. But, his attraction to Jubilee clouds his mind. Jubilee is in the closet, but his attraction to Kieran has him sticking his toe out. He doesn’t know what he’s going to do, but he can’t fight what he feels. Both men have to focus on their joint investigation into the drugs and murder that hovers over Lone Trail.

God. Kieran and Jubilee are brilliant characters. I loved their banter and teasing and their general interaction. They make a brilliant team both on and off the job and their interactions with other characters are great. Both are very comfortable in themselves and it shows in how they are with others. Dillon is another great character who you will enjoy, there are a few characters that will give you a giggle and make for a very interesting story. While our men are chasing the baddies, there’s a certain baddie that comes for Kieran and he is nasty in his methods of drawing Kieran to his clutches.

There’s a bit going on and you follow the trails as they take you through the suspects trying to find the main drug dealer/murderer Reggie Jones; with an alligator autopsy, gruesome remains, betrayal from an insider and drugs turning up in unexpected places. This is a very enjoyable story that is well written and gives you some chuckles and one or two ‘ugh, ewww gross’ moments. One thing I will tell you is that while Kieran and Jubilee get together it isn’t until near the end and then a bit of a bombshell is dropped on them. Although from the way they are in bed, I doubt it will be anything more than a slight blip, because they are HOT.

So, I am recommending this to those who love crime, guns, alligators, backward hicks, a shoot-out, betrayal, a very conniving bad guy… or maybe two, and a romance that is hard to get off the ground, but with some hot sex and with an opening for the next book.

A very dear friend, whose opinion I respect quite a lot, recommended that I read this first book in a new series by A.J. Llewellyn and D.J. Manly, of which neither author had I read before. So combined with a good recommendation, an intriguing blurb, and the excitement of discovering new authors, I jumped right in. It only took a page or two before I realized I was going to enjoy this story very much. Once again, my friend was right.

Kieran Fox is having a pretty crappy life right now. He's spent his life working as a police detective in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada dealing with the narcotics trade, and he's darn good at it. Unfortunately, he wasn't good enough to realize his lover was a dealer, and when he did, Kieran arrested him and brought him right in, but when the crap hit the fan, Kieran was smack dab in the middle of it. I could understand his surprise when he got a knock on his door, while he was feeling pretty sorry for himself, mind you, and there's a sheriff from Texas standing on his doorstep wanting to offer him a job. Good thing his dad was from Texas or else immigration might have been involved. On a side note, Sheriff Dillon DePriest is hysterical, without meaning to be, and I snorted a few times with some of the stuff that came out of his mouth.

This story starts with an interesting premise, and leads you on a wild ride that never lets up. Two cops, one Canadian, one American, each of them good at what they do, and stubborn about accepting anyone's advice (never mind another cop's), have to deal with a mysterious series of murders and a drug cartel – just for starters. And all of that in the middle of Texas – what could be hotter?

Canadian detective Kieran Fox, as good as he is at going undercover and getting criminals convicted, is not as clever about making choices in his personal life. Falling for the wrong guy almost cost him his career, and he has just begun to lick his wounds when the next case comes along: this one abroad, in the US. He doesn't want to go, but he can't really stay, so he decides to jump into the assignment offered by a small town in Texas. He's got nothing better to do, right?

Jubilee Mason has his personal life under control (read: he has none, since he is deeply in the closet), but his professional life is a different matter. He is trying to deal with a gang of murdering drug dealers, or drugged murderers, possibly both, and could use the help. Of course, he cannot admit that and anyway, what does a Canadian know about US law?

And let's not forget the great cast of supporting characters, some hilarious, some utterly scary (I mean, a hungry alligator as a pet?), and some cute kids. Between them and the brilliant banter that keeps Kieran and Jubilee busy when they're not working, and sometimes when they are, this is a very entertaining book. It is also full of sexual tension, but the men take their time, which I really liked.

If you're looking for a hot new story with some unique characters who just love to hate working together, a great mystery to solve, and some gruesome reality checks when the bad guys do their thing, then give this book a try. And the best news? This is only the first volume in a new series. From what I can see, we will be able to follow some more adventures of these two intrepid cops for quite a while to come. Yeehaw!

I like unusual premises and Kiernan's disasterous romantic history with a drug lord is totally unexpected for an intelligent man who's a decorated police detective. A man who definitely know better. This is just one of the many surprises I found sprinkled throughout the story. The odd combination of individuals found within it's pages is a mixture that somehow works in the skillful hands of these talented authors. I mean you have romance, kids, cops, killers, man eating alligators, and a flamboyant cross dresser.

Then there's two great guys in Kiernan and Jubilee and I love how they interact with each other. It's fun, sexy, filled with tension and their bantering dialogue is very entertaining. I enjoyed the look into Jubilee's family, especially his nephews. It's a nice balance against the danger and action of the drug dealer plot thread. And as you can imagine this portion of the story is filled with lots of surprises and shocks--don't forge those alligators. So if you enjoy romance mixed crime, lots of action, danger, cute kids, drug runner, alligators and betrayal, then I suggest you give this opening release a try.

I have to admit, I liked how this first part began, it was intriguing, pulling and full of humor. Everything what pulls the reader into the story. I even liked the main storyline, in small outside town of Lone Trail, in which a city cop Kieran, comes to work for a year. But then everything in this nice compacted storyline fell apart, and that's because this melodramatic, unrealistic even fullish romance between Kieran and U.S. Marshal, Jubilee. Their sex at the end in the motel, who ever wrote this part it has A.J. Llewellyn signature in it. I bet it was her work, that's why its BAD, really BAD. I'm disappointed!

Reviewed for Prism Book Alliance

I first saw a little book by the name of Orgasmic Texas Dawn show up on the site of a publisher that shall remain nameless. I was intrigued because, well... TEXAS. Yeah, I am a glutton for Texas-based books. I never did get around to reading that book, however. I did see it grow from one book to two and then more... then they went away. They are, however, back with a new publisher. Again, I was intrigued, but let them go by without picking them up for a while. I finally caved.

I really enjoyed this although I am bit gutted there was no resolution towards the end and I hadn’t realised it book 1 out of 13!! Canadian Detective Kiernan Fox relocates to small town Texas after finding out he was dating a drug dealing member of the mob. Moving to such a small town is a culture shock and he spends a lot of time wondering what the hell he has agreed to.

One good thing to come out of his move is tall and sexy US Marshall Jubilee Mason but Jubilee is so far in the closet he might as well be in Narnia. The two work well together and are even hotter in bed but between the mob, drug dealers and illegal hooch things are not going to be easy.

I'm glad there are more books in this series, cause I'm not done with these guys.

I found the story slightly confusing in the very beginning, but the guys quickly started to grow on me. Yes even Dillon lol. It's hard to get my head around the extreme small country town that this is set in, but it's well enough described that I'm getting a pretty good mental picture...not a necessarily flattering one lol, but that's not necessary for the book.

Kieran and Jubilee are seriously sexy... and together they make a great team. Bring the next one on!

I don't know why I waited so long to read this book. I purchased it nearly a year ago.
Having had to arrest his lover, Kieran is taking some time out from work. He is visited by a small Texas town sheriff and asked to come on board for a year until he sorts himself out.
In Lone Trail, he meet US Marshall Jubilee, there is an instant attraction but Jubilee is in the closet.
I liked this book. The pace and the 'mystery'. I liked that the guys did not act on their attraction until nearly the end of the book.
Definitely will be reading more books in this series.

This was a fun and exciting ride. The cases presented in the story are silly, but entertaining nonetheless. The few gun scenes were rewarding. Plus both of the main characters' personas were amusing - I found myself chuckling through out the book.

This book was such a joy to read, so much that it easily slipped into my favorite slot. Though I found it disappointing that they glossed over it. Would have love to read more depth on it, maybe in the sequel? *shrug*

I have to say A.J. and D.J. are my favourite authors.
After enjoying 'Mingo McCloud' series, my expectations were very, very high:)
Soooo, 'Orgasmic Texas' is not bad, I liked it, but to be honest I preferred the others because I had a hard time with POV switches :( but because the characters are interesting with a very enjoyable plot, I'm going to read the second book in the series.

I enjoyed the first part of the book, but then Kieran met Jubilee and it went downhill from there. The awkward conversations between the two of them left me bewildered. Also, I couldn't disregard their inappropriate behaviour during surveillance operation or the untimely declarations of love.

3.5 Stars - It was fun, took lots of leeway in the way of police procedure but was an entertaining story. The POV shifts would have benefited from chapter headings, there were times I wasn't sure who was talking at first.

A pleasant—no, a hot surprise

I have to admit, I never thought I would enjoy reading a male-male erotic romance.
But I liked the Orgasmic Texas Dawn series by A.J. Llewellyn and the late, great D.J. Manly.
Although I wish I knew what the initials stood for.
Anyway, this was a straight-ahead romance with a rollicking fast-paced police thriller plot.
Good points
Orgasmic Texas Dawn hits all the standard “forbidden love” points. It’s about two people irresistibly attracted to each other because of similarities in background, experience, and desire, but whose love is frustrated by a narrow-minded society.
And of course, they’re both beautiful, fit hunks. After all, no one wants to read a romance with ugly people.
(Challenge accepted.)
I won’t get into the plot except to say that the main character, U.S. Marshall Jubilee Mason, has found corruption in the local police force in the town of Lone Trail, Texas, where he’s stationed. As he gets into the case, he finds the rot has spread to the U.S. Marshall’s service, as well. The only people he can trust are outsiders like Kieran Fox, the Vancouver cop who’s looking for a fresh start after making some stupid decisions in Canada’s most beautiful city.
The plot is fast, advanced largely through dialog. So there are no long info-dumps. This kept me flipping pages to find out what would happen next. If you’re looking for a step-by-step description whodunnit and howdunnit à la Poirot or Holmes, you’re in the wrong state, honey.
And I loved the Canadian side of it—one protagonist, Kieran Fox (no, the authors don’t waste the opportunity to make that pun), has served on the Vancouver Police Department for a few years. And the episodes in Montreal evoked so many memories. Poutine (which I don’t like), bars open really late, the whole constant party vibe of the place. The only thing they missed was Schwartz’s smoked meat.
As in all good romances, Kieran and Jubilee fall in deep lust at first sight. Why not? They’re both gorgeous, and the only (apparently) gay men for 100 miles.
This is the element that saves the book from being a typical romance: being in rural Texas, they just cannot profess their sexuality or their love. It would be social and career suicide for Jubilee—not to mention, potentially physically, too.
This danger is not just an undercurrent, but a looming presence in the novel, and the authors skillfully weave it into the story and the love affair.
The emotional story, and the character development elevate this book from what could have been just another soft-porn thriller. It’s a story that delves into two men’s hearts and souls. And not just the main characters. The secondary characters and the villains are also well-drawn, three-dimensional figures.
The seedy dark side contrasted with the in-denial hysterical wholesomeness of small-town America, though, rang true.
Weaknesses
The story’s breakneck pace sometimes left me in the Texas dust. More than once, I had to review the last few pages to make sure I understood what was going on.
While the main and secondary characters were well developed and believable, there was a little too much Texan cuteness for me. The name “Jubilee,” for one. But what do I know? I’ve never even been to Texas.
The other thing is that it’s written as a series, rather than each book being a standalone story. In fact, it took the first three books, Orgasmic Texas Dawn, Longing, and Slow Dance, to complete what I would consider a full story.
Each book ends on a cliffhanger. As a writer, I have to appreciate that. But for readers, it could be frustrating. Especially since there are only three books available so far, and the cliffhanger at the end of #3 is the most shocking and tantalizing of all.
My reaction to this book probably surprises you as much as it does me. But I have to admit: this is a good story written by skilled authors, and professionally produced.
5 stars.

Audio Review - Narrated by Micheal Dean

Orgasmic Texas Dawn" by AJ Llewellyn and Dan Manly is a wild, thrilling ride through the dusty streets of Lone Trail, Texas, that expertly blends crime, mystery, and romance. With Michael Dean's stellar narration, this audiobook becomes an immersive experience that grabs you from the start and doesn't let go.

Canadian cop Kieran Fox, reeling from a failed romance with a drug cartel leader, finds a chance at redemption when Sheriff Dillon DePriest invites him to Lone Trail to tackle a dangerous gang. What Kieran doesn't anticipate is the town's eccentric charm and the complex web of intrigue waiting for him.

The novel boasts an unforgettable cast of characters, from a cross-dressing Cher impersonator to a killer missing some peculiar body parts. These quirky personalities add humor and depth to the suspenseful plot. Kieran's personal journey is compelling, especially as he grapples with his growing attraction to the enigmatic U.S. Marshal Jubilee Mason. Their chemistry is electric, adding a layer of tension and passion to the story.

Michael Dean's narration is a highlight, bringing the characters and the setting vividly to life. His voice captures the nuances of the diverse personalities and enhances the story's immersive quality.

While the plot is richly layered with multiple subplots, it occasionally feels overwhelming. However, the authors manage to keep the narrative cohesive, leading to a satisfying conclusion.

"Orgasmic Texas Dawn" is a unique blend of humor, suspense, and romance, making it a must-listen for fans of multifaceted crime stories. The audiobook, narrated by Michael Dean, amplifies the experience, making it a captivating journey from start to finish.

🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️️
Performance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️️⭐️️
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(⭐️) 4,5

A Canadian cop and a U.S. marshal - to my mind, these are the ingredients for an interesting story, at least that was my expectation.
I was not disappointed. Canadian Kieran Fox made a mistake by falling in love with the wrong man, which didn't end well. He gets a job offer in faraway Texas, which he accepts straight away. In the small town of Lone Trail, there are several murders that need to be solved.
I liked Kieran right from the start. He is likeable and never misses his target, in the truest sense of the word. In Texas, he meets Jubilee, a U.S. Marshal who lovingly cares for his sister and nephews. He's gay, but won't do a damn thing to come out of the closet in the rural town where he lives. Jubilee is hot and he's smitten with Kieran. The attraction between the two men is palpable, but they can't lose their professional focus.
The story is exciting and action-packed, amusing and emotional in between, and it moves at a fast pace. The writing style is wonderful, so I quickly found my way into the story. The characters are drawn in detail and the secondary characters are also well developed and portrayed. The audiobook captivated me right from the start, so it's no wonder that I listened to it almost in one go.

Another plus for me is the narrator, because Michael Dean knows how to bring the characters to life and read the story in a lively and entertaining way. As always, he did a brilliant job!
And now I would like to listen to the next volume right away, please!

Kiernan is taking a break from working after he falls for the head of a drug cartel when Texas Sheriff Dillion approaches him to come to Texas and help him deal with gang issues; Kiernan decides it might be a nice break from his problems. Jubilee is a Marshall coping with the same gang; the sheriff's department and Marshall's aren't working well together. When Kiernan and Jubilee are thrown together to try and work together, the sparks of attraction are there, but both are hesitant to start anything.

Oh boy, both Kiernan and Jubilee have some self-issues they need to work on before anything happens between them. While they act on their attraction several times during the book, this is not the start of a relationship. You can see the possibility of a relationship, but it doesn't develop in this book. The mystery was pretty good. I had a good idea about who was involved, but there were a couple of surprises that I didn't see coming. Overall, I'd be interested in reading more of this series at some point.

I wanted to like this, but there was just too many things that happened that hindered me from liking it.

First, I didn't really like the main characters. I didn't even like the Sheriff. I mean, there wasn't much time to get to know them, but how they acted towards each other and others just annoyed me. Maybe they get better as the series continues?

Second, okay, look. I get that when two characters get together, they want to kiss, have sex, what-have-you a lot. I'm okay with that. What I am not okay with is when they are in the middle of a rescue mission (and have heard not great sounds coming from a shed), they take time to stop and kiss and almost have sex. Who does that?! That really annoyed me.

Este libro tiene una combinación de policías, Marshall y caimanes que hace que la historia sea bastante interesante. Kieran se está adaptando y Jubilee es una gran distracción. Este par promete.
