Pastor’s daughter Emma Grant can almost taste freedom. In just a few short weeks she’ll graduate high school, giving up prayer rallies and purity balls for the halls of NYU and a new life with her secret boyfriend Jackson.
However, one night when she and Jackson are together, a teen girl is murdered in her father’s megachurch. Suddenly everyone is paying a lot more attention to how she’s been sneaking around lately. But Jackson has a dark past, and she can’t tell the truth without casting suspicion on him too.
When someone starts leaking her secrets and planting evidence, Emma realizes that being a suspect is no coincidence. As the evidence mounts against her and her life spirals out of control, she must find the real killer—before the killer decides it’s easier to frame her if she’s dead.
When she’s not hanging out with her ginger husband and two stinky basset hounds, Livia Harper writes modern thrillers and mysteries in the vein of Megan Abbott’s Dare Me or Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl. Slain is her debut novel. Sign up for updates and free goodies at www.LiviaHarper.com.
I loved this book! I enjoy fiction if its well written with good character development, but don't tend to gravitate towards thrillers. Even though it isn't a genre I typically read, the reviews were so good, I gave it a try. So glad I did - I couldn't put it down and Ms. Harper owes me a couple nights of sleep for the times I stayed up late reading it! I have been thinking about the book frequently since finishing it, and (as another commenter mentioned) wondering what Emma is up to. Really looking forward to more from this author.
I couldn't put this book down. Totally hooked. I love the main character's narration and inner turmoil. Her story did not let me go until I pieced together every piece of the puzzle.
I fell in love with Livia Harper's writing when I read the Boyfriend Glasses trilogy. Her characters are so crazy and real at the same time. Slain is her first novel. The cover didn't seem engaging, that's why I left it aside for several months before deciding to read it. And I'm happy I did because it was such a page-turner. Loved it.
