An interesting story with good characters. A nice setting among the South African wildlife. Better convergence in the last sections and reducing the repetitive character behaviours could have made it even better.
Ryan, ex-military, now fights poachers in South Africa at the Elephant Sands reserve in the Kruger national park area. The reserve is managed by Kate & Gavin (married to each other). Kate, a friend of Sara’s, visits to do a story on poaching just when a rhino was killed cruelly by poachers. The rhino calf survives and is admitted to a rhino orphanage. Kate’s parents died in a car accident recently and she is trying to move on. After her parents’ death, her uncle Patrick gives her some documents including a birth certificate, indicating her birth mother was someone else her dad had an affair with. Pursuing this is another of Kate’s reasons for visiting South Africa. Ryan & Kate feel attracted to each other, but there are a number of difficulties which must be overcome. Ryan has pains from his past, and both of them are keen to bring the poachers to book.
The setting is charming and brings attention to the cruel poaching gangs & trade. Also, based on a senseless premise as rhino horns do not really help medically in anything. I found many of Ryan & Kate’s behaviours to be repetitive & hence frustrating. A simpler narrative would have worked better. The poaching gangs' angle & Kate’s parentage are good additions to the story but are too simplistic and not very well written.
Overall, a nice relaxing read.

When Africa is the setting of a story, but also many secrets
After losing her parents, Kate Harper grabs the opportunity to go to Africa to write an article about poaching. The fact that her best friend is running a wildlife sanctuary, for sure comes in handy to get the job. But that is not only the only reason Kate needs to go to Africa, because she has made a shocking discovery about herself that she needs to get to the bottom of it. Upon her arrival though, she sees how a baby rhino calf is being airlifted to safety. And the man that helped the poor calf, Ryan Brown, has dedicated his life to save animals from the brutality of men. Both Kate and Ryan are searching for the truth and the criminals that are hunting on animals. And the more time they are spending together, not only the more dangerous their quest is, but the more the mutual attraction starts too hard to ignore. However, with Kate not being completely honest about her reasons for being in Africa, and Ryan’s past in the army and the betrayal he has faced previously, is Africa the place where they find all the answers and perhaps even a future together?
I have to admit, the only time I saw the amazing creatures that rhinos are, are when I recently went to a zoo, and yes, even awarded as the best zoo of Europe. But I have never seen these creatures in their natural habitat, let not even talk about seeing them in Africa.
Yet it for sure sounds majestic, not only visiting Africa, but also seeing all these feral animals in their natural habitat!
But rather early in this book, we are also confronted with ugliness… Ugliness of people, their selfishness, thirst for money…
Just like Kate, I was shocked reading how a rhino has been brutally murdered and how its calf is still fighting for its own precious life… And while perhaps I didn’t connect with the calf like Kate did (although my heart broke for it), I could understand why Kate did exactly that.
I am still counting my blessings that I still have both my parents, and I dread the day I will lose them. But losing both your parents at the same time, by an accident, without being able to say a last goodbye to them… I could comprehend Kate’s feeling of loss, grief, and loneliness.
Unfortunately, that is not all, as Kate also discovers a secret that her lovely parents have been keeping, involving herself…
And her going to Africa, with the “excuse” of the article she has to write, gives her not only the opportunity to visit her best friend, but do some personal digging too.
Upon her arrival in Africa, the first person she meets, is Ryan. And what a first encounter that was. In the middle of the save – the – rhino – action, Kate and Ryan meet. And I liked it somehow how Ryan is only focussed on the calf, showing that his priority at that moment is saving a life, and nothing else.
I have to say, liking Ryan from the start wasn’t easy. I could see his care and passion for the animals, but he also keeps his distance from people. And yes, he can be a grump sometimes too.
But the more I got to know Ryan, the more I understood where he was coming from. Having been in the army is no joke, and what he has been through there, is just terrible. I can only try to imagine how difficult it can be to move on from that, and have a ‘normal’ life.
On top of that, he has also been burnt by love, as he put his trust in someone, who ended up betraying not only him, but also his friends and loved ones…
So can you blame the guy’s wariness? I don’t think so…
There may be some kind of matchmaking in the process, as Kate and Ryan are somehow finding themselves spending more time together, with Ryan explaining the works and how important it is to protect the animals. But at the same time, under the African sun, Kate starts to see Ryan more for the man he truly is, and not the angry, closed man she believed him to be.
Beside the romance taking off, with several ups and downs, misunderstandings and wariness between Kate and Ryan, there are of course several mysteries that need to be solved. Not only about the poachers, and how entwined that illegal matter is, but also Kate’s search for personal answers.
Mysteries and secrets that are risky, dangerous even. And seeing how Ryan is becoming protective of Kate, shows again his care. And even when Kate does things on her own, infuriating Ryan furthermore, the anger is obviously because of a kind of fear, and again the want to protect Kate.
Kate and Ryan are going through a lot in this book, not only because of their quests, but also and more important on an emotional level. It is always easy to say you have to let people in. But when your heart is broken, how can you just do that? And with there being a lot of unsaid things between Kate and Ryan, I could understand the lack of trust from both sides. The lack of trust, and not being ready to be completely open and honest. Although for the readers, it was bit frustrating to read how Ryan and Kate keep on clashing! 😊
This book took me truly on an African journey, making me wonder about its beauty, but also shiver about the ugliness of people. But the author showed me, on a more important level, that even the most hurt and pained people can fall in love, not just with a place, but with each other too. And it may be a real rollercoaster to go through, with courage, determination, growing trust, ups and downs, love may be a scary feeling, but worth fighting for!

I really enjoyed the setting of this book. Having been to South Africa 20 years ago I loved being able to imagine the areas they discussed.
The romance between Kate & Ryan was intense and frustrating but it wasn’t the whole feel of the book. The book was full of tension with Kate’s personal story and the poachers. I don’t usually enjoy closed door romance but I did this one. Great work Vanessa.

This is Vanessa's DEBUT novel, not that you would ever think that!!! I mean this woman writes as if she has been doing it her whole life!! This book has just hit my favourite book of the year and I would be shocked to see it get knocked off that spot. It is also one of my top three books EVER!! It truly has absolutely everything that you could ever ask for in a book!

The first thing I have got to say is an absolutely HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the amazing author Vanessa Wooley!! I was absolutely mind blown when I had finished this epic page turner and realised that it is actually her first and only book!! What an absolutely EPIC debut novel!! If THIS is what you can create for your very first book then I just cannot wait to see what on Earth you will come out with next!! I would love to see more stories from Elephant Sands, hint, hint!! This is definitely one of the best debut novels I have ever read and it is also one of my favourite books of all times!!! You seriously have to grab your copy of this stunning and emotive page turner today!! The stunning setting, the twists, the realistic characters, the absolutely mind blowing twists and turns!!! This book NEEDS to be turned into a movie!!! I am not going to go into the storyline as the synopsis already does a brilliant job of letting you know what the book is about and if you want to know more well you will just have to grab your copy of this brilliant page turner today and I promise that you will not regret it!! I am a MASSIVE animal lover and even run my own rescue called Golden Oldies Cat Rescue And Hospice which you can find on social media f you wish. therefore any books revolving around animals are a huge bonus for me. I must admit that I have never read a book where the storyline is set in Africa or around poaching which I am actually surprised by considering how many books I have read. There doesn't seem to be many around otherwise I would have read more by now so it goes to show how underwritten a topic it is. therefore I would like to say HUGE THANK YOU to Vanessa for bringing much needed attention to conservationism as well as poaching but doing so while weaving it into a stunning storyline. It definitely needs more awareness and this was an amazing way to do it!!! I do need to make readers aware that as this book contains poaching there are distressing scenes when a rhino is found at the beginning but Vanessa has written this as delicately as possible while ensuring the effects of this dreadful "sport" are not dulled down as they shouldn't be. There is plenty of warning on when the description is coming up so it could be skipped past if needed. However I do believe it should be read as should this book be made available worldwide as not only is it a gorgeous read but also highlights the devastation poaching causes. The storyline itself is ram packed with wildlife, romance, friendship, absolutely gorgeous settings, mystery, twists, lies, heartache, drama, secrets, animals, emotions and truly has something for everyone! I would class this as a longer book at 374 pages but it was worth every reading second. there is constantly something going on and I absolutely devoured it in one day. It really does not matter if you are curled up on the sofa with the fire on and a hot chocolate or on a beach with a glass of wine as Vanessa will whisk you into the middle of South Africa where you will hear the animals calling, feel the sun on your skin and falling in love with the setting, storyline and characters. Her absolutely stunning emotive and evocative skills and descriptions ensures that the reader feels like they are truly next to Kate and Ryan throughout. She does an incredible job of weaving the storyline through multiple protagonist perspectives while giving the reader a smooth read and bigger picture while avoiding any confusion,. This truly is a unique, stunning and page turning experience, I call it that as it definitely felt more like an eye opening experience/holiday/adventure than "just" a book. With a storyline filled with romance, mystery, crime, animals, exotic locations and more, what are you waiting for?? Grab your copy of this absolute beauty NOW and I can PROMISE that you will NOT regret it!! You may even discover your new favourite author just like I have!! I honestly loved absolutely everything about it from the start to the end. It was just one heck of an amazing read!!! I absolutely love, love, LOVED the unique storyline!! I have read so many books that it is getting harder and harder for me to find a truly unique plot but Vanessa absolutely smashes it out of the park with this one!! There was no way I could put this book down until I had finished it. I picked it up and even though I kept telling myself just one more chapter I just could not put it down as every time I went to something happened which meant I had to read just one more again until I ended up reading it in one sitting having been glued to the book for a few hours!! I have just never come across a book or movie anything like this one and I doubt I will again!!!! I really hope this is brought to the big screen and if not why not? I will definitely be first in line to watch it. I just genuinely love, love, LOVED IT!!! The characters were all realistic and strong and I was completely invested in them throughout. Vanessa's brilliant evocative descriptions really makes them jump out of the book and come to life in front of the readers eyes. I was completely invested in each and every one of the characters especially Kate and Ryan who I loved "being next to" throughout. I really enjoyed getting to know them and I really hope that i will get to meet them again and that Vanessa will seriously consider turning this book into a ''elephant Sands' series! Each of the characters all played their own roles perfectly and they all had their own unique and individual personalities with their own flaws, strengths and weaknesses. The fact that this is Vanessa's debut novel yet she has managed to create these amazing, unique and strong characters is just absolutely amazing!!! All of the characters were multi layered with complex personalities which definitely made them all the more interesting to read about!!! Unfortunately, I really can not say anymore as I don't want to spoil it for future readers. I just cannot wait to see what characters this amazing author comes up with next!!! I genuinely loved getting to know all the characters and was completely invested throughout!! An absolutely fantastic selection of unique characters that all worked together perfectly to create an absolutely stunning and addictive page turner!!! This book really is a truly unique page turner that I picked up this morning and had completely devoured it in a few hours!!!
Overall an absolutely unputdownable, unique, stunning, emotive must read!

I honestly loved absolutely everything about it from the start to the end. It was just one heck of an amazing read!!! I absolutely love, love, LOVED the unique storyline!! I have read so many books that it is getting harder and harder for me to find a truly unique plot but Vanessa absolutely smashes it out of the park with this one!! There was no way I could put this book down until I had finished it. I picked it up and even though I kept telling myself just one more chapter I just could not put it down as every time I went to something happened which meant I had to read just one more again until I ended up reading it in one sitting having been glued to the book for a few hours!! I have just never come across a book or movie anything like this one and I doubt I will again!!!! I really hope this is brought to the big screen and if not why not? I will definitely be first in line to watch it. I just genuinely love, love, LOVED IT!!! This book will suck you in and keep you gripped in the pages until your thrown out at the end and left needing more!! A truly unforgettable one in a million page turner!!!!

The characters were all realistic and strong and I was completely invested in them throughout. Vanessa's brilliant evocative descriptions really makes them jump out of the book and come to life in front of the readers eyes. I was completely invested in each and every one of the characters especially Kate and Ryan who I loved "being next to" throughout. I really enjoyed getting to know them and I really hope that i will get to meet them again and that Vanessa will seriously consider turning this book into a ''elephant Sands' series! Each of the characters all played their own roles perfectly and they all had their own unique and individual personalities with their own flaws, strengths and weaknesses. The fact that this is Vanessa's debut novel yet she has managed to create these amazing, unique and strong characters is just absolutely amazing!!! All of the characters were multi layered with complex personalities which definitely made them all the more interesting to read about!!! Unfortunately, I really can not say anymore as I don't want to spoil it for future readers. I just cannot wait to see what characters this amazing author comes up with next!!! I genuinely loved getting to know all the characters and was completely invested throughout!! An absolutely fantastic selection of unique characters that all worked together perfectly to create an absolutely stunning and addictive page turner!!! This book really is a truly unique page turner that I picked up this morning and had completely devoured it in a few hours!!!

It is about a young woman's search for her roots, about loss, grief and healing, about trust, redemption and facing one's inner demons, and about the conservation and protection of the African bush and its endangered animals (especially rhinos).
I loved the way the author makes the beautiful South African landscape come alive through her picturesque language and descriptive prose, and how she created characters that are complex and authentic.
The story is told alternatively from Kate's and Ryan's perspectives, so we get a lot of insight into their thoughts and emotions, which makes it easier to understand their decisions. Both are struggling with issues from their past and so their relationship is a bit awkward first. Kate comes across as an extroverted, courageous and strong young woman, but she is also very compassionate and sensitive. Ryan, a former soldier, is devoted to protecting wildlife but is still haunted by his past and struggles with trusting other people. It is not easy for him to open up and this causes misunderstandings and conflicts.
What I really loved about this book is that despite being a romantic suspense novel, the main part of it focuses on suspense and serious topics like the devastating effects of poaching. The end, by the way, culminates in a thriller-like showdown that took my breath away.
So I would like to recommend this book to all those of you who love a sophisticated blend of romance and suspense with serious undertones!

There’s no denying that the author writes with deep passion and knowledge, especially when it comes to wildlife conservation and the African setting.
That said, I struggled with the actual storytelling. The conservation theme is so front-and-centre that it starts to feel like the plot and characters are taking a backseat.
The dialogue is blunt, simple, even abrupt. The narration is stoic, scenes shift quickly, and nothing lingers long enough to stand out. It’s almost as if each moment is forgettable as soon as it ends.
I had a hard time connecting with the characters, they blurred together, and no one stood out with any real depth or personality. I kept waiting for the tension or spark to kick in, but it never quite got there for me.
It reads like a thriller in theory, but lacks the fast‑pace thrill. Instead, it’s slow and uneventful, more drag than drama.

I really loved the storyline of this book! It's so uniquely described and written! It completely takes you out into a brand new setting! It's based on a setting of South Africa and how the two main characters are working to save what's important and finding out more!
Our FMC Kate is so fierce and strong that the story instantly pulled me into it and our MMC Ryan is no less! He is already dealing with his own troubles but still trying to hold on!

I thought this book started out a little slow. I wasn’t feeling all warm and fuzzy about the two main characters either. I did find the story idea interesting and sad at how much poaching actually happens. The story does pick up and some secrets come out. I ended up liking the book much more than I expected to.

I went into this book totally blind having not read anything about it - just going off the beautiful front cover image.
This immediately opens with a dramatic scene with the death of a rhino mother who leaves behind her baby.
As journalist Kate views the rescue, she soon becomes intrigued by the scene and the man who rescued the baby.
This was a pretty tough read because of the nature of the poaching theme and we do explore this in depth - as well as learning of the trauma that ourain characters have carried with them.

I was looking forward to reading this book as it came across different to other romance books I’ve read . Truthfully it reminded me a lot of ‘Wild at Heart’ with it being based in South Africa and animals being involved. Personally I wouldn’t say the main trope was romance as it’s not the main focus of the book. It’s more of a mystery adventure based story. I did struggle with the slow burn and back and forth between the two main characters, as I did find it a bit repetitive. However I really enjoyed this book and was able to just delve into it straightaway. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

This was a really interesting story, I loved the characters and the environment that this book was set around. When I first saw the cover for the book it reminded me of an old favourite tv show Wild at Heart which visits similar topics to the book itself. I would highly recommend this book for anyone interested in a charming read with lush landscapes which also focusing on the harmful world of poaching. You won’t be disappointed in this one.

Talk about a great story. I love this story so much. The fact that it sheds light on the poaching of animals is such a great thing. I also loved the romance although it takes work I'm happy with how it ended. The mystery of trying to figure out who Katie's mom is, was such a great part of the story. I loved that she was found and that they are now working on a relationship. Overall a great story with some real life issues involved in it.

At first glance, it feels like you’re stepping into a beautifully rendered setting South Africa at sunset, wildlife conservation, wide landscapes, danger humming under the surface. But once you’re in it, you realize this story isn’t just about where it takes place. It’s about grief, trust, and what happens when you’re forced to confront truths you’ve been avoiding about the world and about yourself.
Kate arrives carrying loss and unresolved questions, and that weight follows her into everything she does. I appreciated that she didn’t feel polished or heroic. She felt human. Curious, stubborn, emotionally bruised, and sometimes unsure of her own footing. Watching her get pulled into the reality of wildlife crime especially the emotional impact of the rhino rescue was heartbreaking in a way that felt grounded, not sensationalized.
Ryan, on the other hand, is guarded in that way that immediately tells you he’s been through too much. His protectiveness isn’t romanticized it’s layered with trauma, responsibility, and restraint. The relationship between Kate and Ryan is a slow burn, but not in a fluffy way. It’s tense, cautious, and shaped by danger and distrust. I liked that they didn’t magically fix each other. They had to work through fear, silence, and hard conversations.
What stood out most to me was how real the emotional stakes felt. The poaching storyline isn’t just background noise it’s heavy, unsettling, and impossible to ignore. It gave the story purpose beyond romance, and it made the risks feel real. I was immediately drawn to this ARC – it’s not often a romance tackles something as urgent and compelling as poaching, and the African setting promised big skies and bigger emotions. The book delivered on both those fronts, with vivid scenes of safaris, sunrises, and a baby rhino rescue that completely melted my heart.
Ryan’s backstory as a British soldier-turned-ranger was moving, though I expected more narrative payoff from his past – one thread involving a friend seemed to fizzle out. Kate, meanwhile, was a bit of a mixed bag. I liked her drive and bravery, but she was also bafflingly naive at times – there’s one moment where she heads into danger alone in a foreign country, and I was internally screaming at her idiocy. Her big secret felt like unnecessary drama too – once the original reason for keeping quiet was removed, the silence just felt manufactured.
A decision by Kate late on in the book really threw me. It’s a moral dilemma, for sure, but I personally found her choice so hard to stomach it dampened my enjoyment of the ending. That said, I appreciated that we weren’t railroaded into a babies-and-marriage epilogue – the HFN felt grounded and real.
The mystery element kept me turning pages, and the rhino sanctuary scenes offered warmth and hope. But I was disappointed that the majority of the main cast appeared to be white or foreign – it felt like a missed opportunity not to include Black South African voices in a story about their own country and natural heritage.
Overall an interesting debut and I will keep an eye out for more from this author.

Ryan’s backstory as a British soldier-turned-ranger was moving, though I expected more narrative payoff from his past – one thread involving a friend seemed to fizzle out. Kate, meanwhile, was a bit of a mixed bag. I liked her drive and bravery, but she was also bafflingly naive at times – there’s one moment where she heads into danger alone in a foreign country, and I was internally screaming at her idiocy. Her big secret felt like unnecessary drama too – once the original reason for keeping quiet was removed, the silence just felt manufactured.
A decision by Kate late on in the book really threw me. It’s a moral dilemma, for sure, but I personally found her choice so hard to stomach it dampened my enjoyment of the ending. That said, I appreciated that we weren’t railroaded into a babies-and-marriage epilogue – the HFN felt grounded and real.
The mystery element kept me turning pages, and the rhino sanctuary scenes offered warmth and hope. But I was disappointed that the majority of the main cast appeared to be white or foreign – it felt like a missed opportunity not to include Black South African voices in a story about their own country and natural heritage.
Overall an interesting debut and I will keep an eye out for more from this author.

Secrets at sunset is a quick read slow burn romance with mystery, secrets, and a lot to do with wildlife and poaching.
Set in the beautiful backdrop of South Africa on a wildlife reserve journalist Kate the fmc and the head of the anti-poaching unit Ryan the mmc come together to find the person who is poaching on the wildlife reserve. But as the two continue to work together, Ryan starts to question what Kate's real intentions are as he notices her acting strange. Kate has her reasons for being in South Africa, and it's not just for a story on poaching.
The wildlife reserve and poaching was different and like nothing I've ever read before, and it really sets this book apart from other romances, helping it stand out even more while also bringing awareness to poaching. The mystery and secretes definitely kept me invested in this story, and I loved how the ending brought the two plots together.
I will say this one was more mystery than romance, which didn't bother me, but I like for other readers to know about that, so you're not going into this thinking it's just a romance.
The characters' relationship was very hot and cold grumpy x sunshine with a lot of miscommunication going on. I felt like both had a lot of trust issues with the MMC having way more than the FMC and, at times had me screaming, just tell each other the truth already but then the plot wouldnt have been as impactful. Despite that, I did throughly enjoy the plot of this book.

Well this certainly isn't my usual type of read ( I'm a huge fantasy/sci-fi fan ) , but I think it's important for authors to have the perspective of readers who are not necessarily their target audience, so I try to read outside of my comfort zone as often as I can and frequently, I'm pleasantly surprised, as I was with Secrets at Sunset.
It's a tale of Romance, with a good dash or two of adventure, it being set in South Africa, somewhere I've never visited but have always wanted to. I absolutely love wildlife and being outside in forests, hills, countryside, coasts etc and I'm interested in conservation too, so the setting was right up my street.
We follow Kate, a journalist who arrives in Africa to write about poaching, who soon meets Ryan, an ex-soldier who now protects wildlife. But it's not long before the pair are tumbling down the dark, shadowy rabbit hole wildlife crime and offences.

Kate is an investigative journalist and has covered stories across Europe and Syria. She is now in South Africa covering a story of poaching of rhinos. Upon her arrival, she meets Ryan, a former British soldier and now a ranger at Kruger National Park, which also includes an animal rescue and sanctuary. He helps care for and protect rhinos. Kate and Ryan work together to solve the case of poaching.
While trying to find those responsible for the poaching, Kate is on a personal journey as she tries to uncover the identity of her birth mother. She has been grieving the loss of her parents. Ryan is also processing the loss of a brother in arms with whom he served during the war.
As they both work together to solve the case of the poaching, a connection between Ryan and Kate grows. I thought the chapters were well paced, including the build of Kate and Ryan’s relationship. Their story is a hopeful one as well as a journey of healing.
I found the scenes where Ryan and Kate were with the animals in the park as well as the rhino orphanage profound - in the midst of everything they are going through, they find moments of peace watching the animals. The prose describes the settings of the landscape of the park vividly and how majestic the animals are. In those scenes, we are observers of the various species, such as elephants, giraffes, rhinos, lions, and marvel at the wonders of the landscape. Nature is a wonder. It and along with the animals should be protected. This novel honors conservationists who work tirelessly to protect endangered species and rehabilitate injured and orphaned animals so they can return to their habitat.

I really liked this one!
There's plenty here to keep the plot moving. Trying to find the people who killed the rhino and also secrets being revealed made this a fast-paced read for me. Could not put this down.
I found this to be an emotional read not only because of the poaching storyline but also because of the characters. Kate has lost her parents so when a baby rhino's mother is killed she feels an immediate connection to the baby. My heart broke for both the baby rhino and Kate. Ryan is also dealing with a lot as well. Each character's journey is handled with care and developed nicely over the course of the book.
Would recommend if you're in the mood for an emotional romantic suspense story with a unique plot.

Set at Elephant Sands, a private reserve within Kruger National Park, this book has the ruggedness of the landscape, a romance and the reality of the abhorrent poaching of rhinos. Journalist Kate Harper takes on an assignment of writing an article about poaching whilst fleeing her own grief after losing her parents six months ago. The location is also a draw, as she has some investigating to do there regarding her personal life and her past.
I loved this book, the setting, the story of Kate and Ryan but mostly the important message and awareness of poaching. It is well written and I felt invested in the book from the very start. The sounds of the roaring lions, the smells of the citronella candles, the sight of an orphaned rhino - this is a wonderful read. I would love a sequel.

Secrets at Sunset was a debut novel I related to. I have several lifelong friends from boarding school who have devoted their lives to conservation work in Southern Africa.
The story takes the reader through the never-ending conflict between poachers and conservationists. Highlighting the angst these stalwarts endure in their work and private lives.
I appreciated the ambience conveyed in Vanessa’s writing and the implicit African subtleties. This resulted in a rollercoaster of emotions, between pangs of homesickness and heartwarming memories.
Look forward to seeing where the author takes us from here.

Overall I enjoyed this book. I thought Kate’s journey to find out more about her family history, whilst also trying to investigate the rhino poaching incident with Ryan was really interesting.
However the book relies very heavily on the miscommunication trope to build tension between Kate and Ryan, to the extent that in my opinion it negates some of the character development throughout the book.

The moment I read the blurb, I was hooked - I knew I had to dive in. The secrets both the MMC and FMC were hiding felt like a puzzle begging to be solved.
The slow-burn romance between Kate and Ryan is deliciously tense, with both of them stubbornly denying the spark between them. It unfolds page by page in the most satisfying way.
If you love seamless mix of mystery, romance, a guarded MMC with trust issues, and an FMC who keeps her secrets locked tight, this book is an absolute must-read.
