A story of crossed phone lines, attempted murder, and transformation among the rich of 1986 New York. JB and Len are in rehearsals for his play to open Off-Broadway when one day they hear a plot to kill someone on JB's answering machine. They have no choice but to find the person and warn him. That search leads them to old friends, odd clubs, and an end to a budding relationship.
This is the second book in the Bent mysteries, and in this one we find JB has discovered a message of murder on his answering machine.JB is in rehearsals for his play called "The Greenhouse Murder" which Toby (his younger boyfriend) and Len ( his ex and now best friend) will be starring in.One day when he comes home JB overhears two men plotting the murder of another.JB, Toby, and a hesitant Len decide to track down the man ( they hear his first name clearly) and prevent the murder. Also, along with this we begin to see fractures in the relationship between JB & Toby.JB sees the age difference does make a difference and the fact that though Toby doesn't want to actually discuss the matter doesn't help. This is such a fun read, and it's short. This is a good series and a good read!
