What I Liked:
I. Absolutely. LOVED. This sequel. Holy guacamole, I wasn't prepared for this book. For me, sequels are often not that great, just a necessary hump to cross before reaching the epic finale in book three (I'm so over trilogies!). THIS sequel did not suffer any sequel slump!
Jayden has been searching for a mysterious stranger whom she believes is Kadesh for months. Never did she give up hope, and in the desert, they find each other. While the pair would love nothing but to prolong their reunion, Jayden must go back for her family, and Kadesh needs to return to Sariba. Jayden and Kadesh run from Horeb's massive armies to Sariba, only for Jayden to find danger in a place she was lead to believe would be paradise... with the threat of Horeb drawing closer every day.
It felt like Jayden had obstacle after obstacle to overcome, from the start. She nearly died many times in the desert before finding Kadesh, When they reunite, she nearly dies several more times when trying to rescue her family, with Kadesh and his traveling group's help. I love Jayden's character growth in this book - she suffers so much, and feels so much despair, but she becomes more mature and brave and fearless, even as she is afraid.
Oh Kadesh. My heart broke for him. He is not quite the same man we met in Forbidden. He's sweet and kind and so devoted to Jayden - but he's also haunted by guilt, and weighed down with responsibilties, as the Prince of Sariba. I adore Kadesh. He's swoony and protective but also very considerate of Jayden's thoughts and desires, which you wouldn't necessarily expect, of the men of this time period.
Speaking of time period... I LOVE the setting of this series. I'm Christian and very familiar with the Bible, so it's pretty cool to see all of these names and places in a fictional novel, when I see them so often in a religious text. Note -- this isn't a book about religion! I'm just relating my knowledge of Mesopotamia and Ancient Biblical figures (Abraham, Ishmael, the Queen of Sheba) to this story. The author did a beautiful job with the world-building, the authenticity of the setting, the history - she has done her research well, and has also bent things to make a wonderful fictional story!
Like I said above, Jayden goes through obstacles from start to finish. I felt so bad for her! This book gets going and the pace doesn't slow - it's a deceptive pace. It's like it's meandering, but things are happening and happening and you can't put the book down. But it seems like a moderate pace. I liked how the author managed this! The story is lush and romantic, yet there is so much high-stakes action and a little anxiety and heart-pounding, seat-gripping fear. This desert Mesopotamian world is a little scary, honestly!
The romance... I LOVE Jayden and Kadesh together. They are so sweet and so romantic together. I love how unshakable their feelings toward each other are, how they both never stopped believing that the other was alive. And as the story goes, the author tests each of them - mostly Jayden - and throws snares in their path. There is no love triangle or square or anything - I had a lot of faith in the couple throughout the book, and I love how strong their relationship stayed, after all that the author put them through in this book.
I cannot wait to read the third book! The way this book ended wasn't super cruel, but it has me anxious, a bit! No cliffhanger, but the ending is slightly abrupt. Like, the big climax and then the scene cuts. Which is a pretty nifty sequel-esque ending, but dang it, I don't have book three in front of me! The stakes are high, the risk is great, and the sacrifices will be plenty. I'll be eagerly awaiting the conclusion to this lovely series!
What I Did Not Like:
Hmm. I suppose there weren't too many things that bothered me - not enough to list as dislikes. I will say to all the people who are picky about romances (LIKE ME) - relax. Trust in Jayden and Kadesh. This isn't one of those sequels where the pair are separated for the entire book (the opposite: they're together for the entire book!).
Would I Recommend It:
I soooo recommend this sequel! If you liked Forbidden (IT WAS SO GREAT), you'll probably enjoy this book even more. I know I did (hello, more Kadesh and Jayden!). I love that the author didn't split the pair pretty much at all, in this book (once they reunite, we're golden). I love that the author didn't choose an agonizing cliffhanger ending, making the wait for book three painful. I love that there was no love triangle. There are so many overused, cliche YA tropes that the author avoided! And this book was entertaining and sweet and a good read - I couldn't stop reading! You don't need to remember much from Forbidden; just dive right into the book!

4.5 stars -> rounded down to 4 stars (I'm a bit of a tough sell, when it comes to 5 stars). If you have not read Forbidden, fix this immediately! Read it just so you can experience Banished, if anything!

This was an okay sequel, but things didn’t really improve for Jayden.
Jayden really showed some spirit in this book, and she stayed strong through some really awful times. Unfortunately though, even the smallest matter wasn’t made simple for her, and she really had to fight to survive.
The storyline in this was about Jayden discovering that Kadesh wasn’t really dead, and travelling to find him, and then them travelling together to Kadesh’s kingdom, with a bloodthirsty Horeb hot on their heels. There was quite a lot of travelling in this book, and backtracking, and the pace of the book seemed quite slow because of it. We did get a bit of excitement though, and a little dash of romance.
The ending to this again didn’t leave Jayden in the best of situations, and it will be interesting to see if she finally gets happy ending in the third book.

This was much stronger than the first one and I love that it pretty much started where we were left at the end of Forbidden.
I liked Jayden a lot more in this story. She's stronger and stands up for herself. She knows what {or who} she wants and goes after it with eyes open and both hands stretched out. Kadesh is fantastic and so sweet with her when they're together.
There are several scenes that did make me angry in the form of stupid miscommunications in an effort to spare the feelings of the other party. Instead of the tension I suspect they were supposed to provide, I was irritated. I'm also not 100% clear on all of the Goddess/temple stuff and even though it seems like an important aspect, it's not one I'm focused on for resolution.
Overall, it was a fast paced plot that captivated me from the very beginning with a wicked cliffhanger-ish ending. I cannot wait to see how it all ends.

I am now officially calling 2016 the year of the meh books because I have yet to read a book that has truly blown my mind and makes me want to roll around in the mud with joy. Banished is by no means a bad book, I would actually say that on the whole, it was a lot better than its predecessor but my problem with the book and what prevented me from loving it was the shit ton of romantic drama.
Romantic drama is the bane of my existence. Why cannot two people love each other and that be it? Why is it that there has to be 50000000 complications before my otp can be together? UGH. I am okay with *some* drama as long as I get groveling but when the main couple basically faces a new hurdle every couple of pages, I cannot. I want my couples to be able to work together as a team and trust each other. Trust is IMPORTANT and my rant is starting to get out of hand so let me pull myself together. Give me a second. I am alive. Okay. So within the context of this book (can you tell that the drama frustrated me?), I just wanted Jayden and Kadesh’s reunion to be a sweet one rather than them forming another fragile relationship after everything they had been through in Forbidden.
Now that I have that major rant out of the way I can calm the fuck down (to some extent) and talk about everything else in the book. WE GO ON A JOURNEY. And I like journeys so I really liked that aspect of the book. The stakes were super high and it was so so fun (I am a closet thrill-junkee…. SHHHHH.)
Jayden has also come so far since Forbidden. Her strength was admirable in Forbidden but it always seemed a little naive. In Banished; however, Jayden has matured so much that I just wanted to hug her and tell her I was proud. What? All characters are secretly my children. Kadesh on the other hand did not fair as well. He was still swoony but the fact that he chose to keep things a secret because he wasn’t ready to deal with issues was not a good thing. I realize he kept them a secret not because he didn’t think Jayden was ready because he wasn’t ready (which is better than nothing) but I was not satisfied. I am going to stop right here because otherwise, I will go on another long rant about romance stuff since that seriously disappointed me.
The setting also continues to be amazing. This time we got to see even more of the world and that made me happy since world building is always really important. I did notice that religion became a part of this story in a way it wasn’t in Forbidden. Or maybe I just noticed it more? It wasn’t like shoved down our throats which is nice but I also felt like the way religion was done wasn’t necessarily accurate given the era? I don’t want to say more because again, things get out of hand when I go on and on about something completely off topic. I am just really bad, aren’t I? You should all treat yourselves to chocolate if you are still here and reading my review. YOU HAVE EARNED IT.
So what else can I talk about? The ending? YOU MEAN THAT THING THAT HAD ME BITTING MY NAILS AND MAKES ME WANT TO BEG THE AUTHOR FOR BOOK 3? yeah that thing. it was okay I guess. *flips hair and walks out*
But on a serious note, if you are looking for a book set in a completely different time period, this is it. You have come to the right place, the Mesopotamian setting of the series is what appealed to me in the first place and now here I still am because the characters and the great plots keep me coming back for more.

So what else can I talk about? The ending? YOU MEAN THAT THING THAT HAD ME BITTING MY NAILS AND MAKES ME WANT TO BEG THE AUTHOR FOR BOOK 3? yeah that thing. it was okay I guess. *flips hair and walks out*
But on a serious note, if you are looking for a book set in a completely different time period, this is it. You have come to the right place, the Mesopotamian setting of the series is what appealed to me in the first place and now here I still am because the characters and the great plots keep me coming back for more.

Ahhhh I am so happy to be back in the Mesopotamian desert with Jayden and company! I loved Forbidden so, so much, and this sequel was a must-read for me- probably one of my most anticipated books of the year. And it was definitely worth the wait. While I didn't love it quite as much as Forbidden, it was still a very solid sequel, and I am very excited for the final installment!
The Good:
Jayden is amazing as always. In Forbidden, Jayden was a great main character. In Banished, she is freaking amazing. She's tough, but she's classy. She's willing to stand up for herself and those she loves, but is always mindful of the impact of her actions. An she had to go through so, so much already in her short life, and the desert definitely doesn't plan on letting up on her anytime soon.
Strong family ties are beautiful. Jayden will do about anything to keep her family close/find family that isn't currently together. She values them so, so much and it is refreshing to read. It isn't about obligation, Jayden simply loves them for who they are. While we're talking about family, Jayden's grandmother is just... I love her, okay? It's no wonder that Jayden is the strong and kind woman she is, because her grandma is that woman too. Their relationship is exquisite, and it reminded me of my relationship with my own beloved grandmother, which gave me even more of a connection. The fact that these women are so strong in such a patriarchal society speaks volumes. But the author handles it appropriately- it's very clear that sadly Jayden and her grandmother are not the norm here, no because other women aren't strong, but because it's extraordinarily hard for them to have a chance to show their strength.
Speaking of, the setting is on point. My goodness, the desert seems like hell on earth. I suppose it was, for the most part, at least outside the cities. And really, inside some of the cities too. One of my favorite things about Forbidden was that I could really sense the setting, could picture it vividly, and that is the same in Banished. The desert is harsh and unforgiving, much like a lot of the people Jayden encounters. But there are pockets of good- again, both in the desert and the people- which is probably quite accurate as well.
I ship the romance. In the interest of staying spoiler free, let's just say that I shipped it when I read Forbidden, and I still do now- maybe even more so.
The Not As Good:
None of it was bad so I am saying "not as good", okay? Great. So my only qualm with this particular book was that I did feel like I saw some of the bigger plot points coming, and I found it to be more predictable than its predecessor.
Bottom Line: Lots of love for this series. If you haven't started it, you probably should, and if you've read Forbidden and loved it like I did, you'll want to get your hands on Banished. And then wait impatiently for book three in this unique and cruel world with the unexpectedly loveliest of protagonists.

Banished picks up right where Forbidden left off, with Jayden heading out into the deserts in search of Kadesh, who she believes injured but alive after being attacked by Horeb. This arc of the story follows our heroine and her true love through a perilous journey back to Kadesh’s homeland of Sariba and expands upon the threats that are set on destroying them. Before, the only antagonist was Horeb, but now it comes to light that Kadesh’s homeland isn’t a utopia of peace and harmony, but a country facing its own crisis in the wake of a power hungry demagogue priestess using religion as a pathway to total control.
Naturally, this means book #2 is very much a “middle book” in that this is a build-up arc, intended to give extra oomph to the climax and finale of book three by setting up events in a way that makes the situation more complex and difficult to see a resolution for. Though the story is still pretty straightforward with villains whose motivation really boils down to “I want power for the sake of having power” I think the author does a pretty good job at weaving various details and plot threads together, and that the reveal of the elements was a good choice to keep readers ever drawn in and interested. Since this is a buildup arc and a middle book, there isn’t a whole lot accomplished goal-wise in this installment. That isn’t to say the story isn’t engaging, but the only truly accomplished goal is arriving in Kadesh’s homeland. Everything else is just explored or built up, but not resolved, leaving lots to be finished up in the final book, rather than only saving a few big goals for the last book.
Since Jayden reunites with Kadesh within 30 pages, this book gives us a lot more scenes of them together than Forbidden. They touch and kiss and speak much more frequently because there’s not much to drive them apart for weeks or months at a time, so the relationship feels like it’s grown and become more secure. This is probably my favorite part of the book; it’s easy to feel their love for one another and understand the emotions of their relationship—the shared sadness and fears, their trust and honesty, their joy and hopes—and overall it’s a very sweet relationship to read about and one I can root for.
As for critiques well, I guess sometimes it feels like the author is trying to push Jayden’s religious beliefs (which are ancient precursors to Judaism and Christianity) onto the reader as being the “correct” ones and demonizing anything else, which I didn’t care for, even if the one religion and its priestess is an antagonist in the tale and not everything the religion asks for or the priestess does is “good.” There isn’t much else in terms of criticisms and nit-picky preferences, except perhaps that some of the stuff is pretty distinctly inaccurate/modern (like I highly doubt they were using hot rollers to curl their hair or had hair clips) and that kind of bugged me since I’m a history major and appreciate the highest degree of accuracy.
The writing was good, even better than book #1 I think, although at times it did sound a little Too Modern and it messed with the immersion into an ancient world a little bit, but that’s not the most important since it’s YA and we don’t have accurate ideas of how their speech would have sounded/translated in modern English. I think that this edition performs better than book #1 did, if only because there’s more freedom to write an engaging plot since all the world building stuff is done and over with.

I'm loving this series, and I want the third book now! Dang you cliffhangers!
This book starts off where the first ended. With Jayden on a search for Kadesh. Jayden has only heard rumors that Kadesh may still be alive, so she travels on her own through the dangerous desert in search of Kadesh. The desert is harsh to Jayden, but she will do what she needs to do to be reunited with Kadesh. When Jayden and Kadesh are reunited (no spoiler, in the synopsis), the reunion is bittersweet. Both Jayden and Kadesh have inner and outer scars that they need to deal with. Kadesh and Jayden set out to travel to Kadesh's home land with an army of sorts that Kadesh has formed. They have hopes of reaching Kadesh's home before Horeb catches up with them, but first Jayden wants to try to get her family. Jayden and Kadesh have to deal with the desolate desert, secrets, spies, loss of family, more than one evil person, a stoning and doubts. The majority of this book takes place while they are traveling through the desert, and although it was a bit the same thing the whole time, I was still interested till the end; there's enough going on and the characters really carry the story. We get some new characters in this book, some I really liked; Asher, and some I despised; Aliyah. I don't get how certain people could allow the temple to infiltrate so far into the kingdom; I won't say more because Spoilers!
I still adore Jayden and Kadesh's relationship, and I enjoy the strength and depth of their love. The romance is so sweet and soulful. I really like Jayden; her strength and determination, but I was a little disappointed that Jayden didn't pick up on some things quicker, and I also wanted Kadesh to not be so unwilling to discuss important things with Jayden. I also was disappointed with how things were in the end; I felt there was more that could've been done to curb the events that take place; I felt like the characters weren't using their intelligence.
I really enjoy the way Kimberley Griffiths Little sets a scene. I can really visualize the setting of this book. I'm really looking forward to the third book!

I loved the first book in this series but this one wound up being a disappointment for me. I felt like the dialogue and writing were very awkward - almost stilted. There were tmes I cringed at the cheese. I was also quite unhappy with the secret keeping from Kadesh. Jayden was still a lovely character but even she couldn't fully save the book for me.

First thanks to Harper Collins and Edelweiss for allowing me to read an e-galley of this title. I loved the first book, Forbidden, so much, that as soon as I saw this was available, I downloaded it to read. Once again I'm participating in a tour with Dena from Batch of Books for this series. If you haven't read the first book, you need to go click on my link above to read that review, because there is a very good chance that this review of the 2nd book will have spoilers for the first book. I am glad to say that other than one or two tiny details, I was able to dive right back into the story without forgetting what had happened before. And honestly, those details were very vague already in my head, and I soon remembered them as soon as there was a mention of those things in this story.
We join in with Jayden alone in the desert. She has escaped Horeb and knows that she must look for Kadesh, even though as far as she knows, Horeb killed him. But it's obvious that since the story goes on, she will find him. But he's really injured, Horeb has done so much to him in that fight where he said he'd killed him. But Jayden doesn't care, she loves Kadesh, and she tells him so. The tribe that has rescued him accepts Jayden as his future wife, and promise to protect her as well. However there is at least one man in the tribe that Jayden remembers from when her family's tribe had been attacked in the last story. But supposedly he has sworn to help with the rest of his tribe. And the prince of this new tribe, not only does Jayden see him meet with this tribe member, but he seems to be developing a romantic interest in Jayden as well.
The tribe must move on as they soon find out that Horeb is on their tail, he wants to take back his betrothed, Jayden, any way that he has to. First Jayden will want to save her family. Going back to her own tribe, Jayden finds them turned against her, thanks to Horeb's mother, and they threaten to stone her. Only Jayden's grandmother is there, her father has gone back to the city to look for her sister. Kadesh's friends in the tribe will do their best to help Jayden get as many of her family members back as she can, and then take them all to Kadesh's kingdom, Sariba. But things won't be the perfect ending and happily ever after once they reach Sariba. Kadesh hasn't told Jayden everything, and there will be obstacles to face in order for things to go the way they should.
The end of the book leaves us wondering how Kadesh's tribes will fight off Horeb. After having dealt with some betrayal, soon they will have to fight members of their own kingdom who have their own sights set on the kingdom.
Once again I fell back in love with Jayden and Kadesh, although the bit in the kingdom, when we learn of Kadesh's secrets, it was emotional. I did cry. Such great emotion in this story. I love all the historical parts especially. The stoning, the worship of different gods, and even the locations are so fascinating. Once again I love how the author gives some insight into the history at the end of the book. We just finally got our copy of the first book in the library for my students to read. I can't wait to get this second book ordered and added to the shelves for my students when they finish the first book.

Oh where to start....I absolutely LOVED, OBSESSED, DREAMED ABOUT, RAVED and DEVOURED this amazing book. WOW....I loved the first book in this series, Forbidden, and could not wait to read the sequel and it was even better than expected!!!
Banished is full of breath-taking romance, intense action scenes, and beautiful world-building. I love how the story takes place over the Mesopotamian desert which makes the survival aspect of this story feel so real. I love survival stories and especially where there is a female heroine who has to overcome overwhelming odds to survive and Jayden is the perfect heroine for this story.
Banished picks up right where Forbidden ended and Jayden is scouring the desert looking for her true love, Kadesh, whom she has heard stories that he could be alive and not dead at the hands of the evil Horeb. Jayden has dealt with so many difficult and painful experiences but she has not given up hope that she and Kadesh can live happily if they can just make it to his kingdom, Sariba and escape Horeb.
Usually sequels are more of just a continuation of the story to keep the story going until the final book but Banished is an exception to that standard....Banished was so much more than just an ordinary sequel. The story line in Banished was so intricate and fascinating and so many new characters were introduced who grabbed your heart just as much as the original characters from the first book. Each new character that was introduced had their own special place in the story and I cannot wait to find out where their paths take them in this amazing trilogy.
Jayden and Kadesh travel the desert for most of this book and they visit so many new, fascinating places that just continued to build on this amazing, breath-takingly beautiful world. I loved the aspect of "arabian nights", beautiful dark-haired belly dancers, and magnificent palaces.
There is so much emotion in this story and moments where my heart literally broke for Jayden and the pain she experienced. Jayden's family's beliefs and their culture is so strong and at times utterly heart-breaking. Jayden faces terrifying danger out in the desert and uncovers treacherous secrets that could change everything for her and Kadesh.
"My arms swept around his neck to hold him, our bodies woven together, legs tangled. I sensed his heart beating in rhythm to mine as though we were already one."
I cannot express just how much I loved this book!! It's hard to talk about it and try not to give away anything because everyone should experience each page of this book and devour each beautifully written word just as I did.....WOW...Just WOW....I literally cannot wait to get my hands on the final book and see where Jayden and Kadesh's destiny lies and what treasures await them......

I'm so excited! I've been waiting forever for this book to come out and screamed like a fool when I got an ARC.
This start off intense. Jayden is tense from everything that has happened to far. She's on the move and right now is in her tent with her camel, trying to come up with her next move. But things just aren't going so well. She gets attacked, and her cleverness has done her well. Of course using a threat against them and saying they did her harm would get them in trouble with Horeb. It also helps that she can use her knife to free herself, when the guy is distracted. But she cuts it close, with just enough time to grab a bag and get on her camel before the hyena comes down and finds dinner.
Jayden just needs freedom. Horeb is so NOT worth of her. He has no kindness, he killed to get his title, and is now on the hunt for Jayden. Well her heart is someplace else, and with someone who actually is good to her. Yup, I had angry moments with this book, I just couldn't stand Horeb at all.
As you go on, Jayden manages to find peace for a short time. She finds the one she loves, gets a decent meal and a good nights sleep. But now its time to head back out on her journey. In hopes to be a princess with her true love. Let's hope nothing too horrible gets in their way.

Jayden just needs freedom. Horeb is so NOT worth of her. He has no kindness, he killed to get his title, and is now on the hunt for Jayden. Well her heart is someplace else, and with someone who actually is good to her. Yup, I had angry moments with this book, I just couldn't stand Horeb at all.
As you go on, Jayden manages to find peace for a short time. She finds the one she loves, gets a decent meal and a good nights sleep. But now its time to head back out on her journey. In hopes to be a princess with her true love. Let's hope nothing too horrible gets in their way.
I loved this book even more than the last and I just can't wait for the next one! The feels were strong with this book!

Banished picks up where Forbidden left off and we are reunited with Jayden who has decided to search for Kadesh. There are rumors that he may not have survived the attack from Horeb, but she comes to find him after a long trek and he is indeed injured and scarred. Jayden hoped that they would be reunited and this would fix all of her problems, but Horeb is still on her trail and doesn't plan on giving up anytime soon. Kadesh and Jayden's only option is to return to Sariba, where Kadesh is from, and then hopefully they can be together. But Kadesh knows that Horeb is not likely to give up and is recruiting a large army; war is immenent. To complicate matters further, Jayden experiences many troubles in this sequel to Forbidden. She is dealing with trying to find her missing father, there's also her aging grandmother's welfare, her sister's involvement with the Temple of Ashtoreth, and ultimately, there are many secrets that Kadesh is hiding from her. Kimberley G. Little's second installment in the Forbidden series is a breathtaking adventure through the Mesopotamian desert; there's romance, danger, a lot of action, and historical details that all added to my enjoyment.

Wow! BANISHED starts right where FORBIDDEN leaves off. It grabs hold and seriously doesn't let go. Kimberley does an amazing job with her descriptions, I appreciate the extra details and care taken with her research. Jayden is a strong character, who yes, has weaknesses but I think that is what I love most about her. Mostly, her acting before she thinks. But she is extremely passionate, caring, loyal, and brave. Jayden and Kadesh are truly perfect for each other and I love their relationship. The ending was non stop, actually the whole book was like that. Even though there was a lot of traveling, Kimberley made the time passing enjoyable. My heart ached for Jayden and the events that took place. I can't wait for RETURNED.

I was almost nervous to read this book since I adored FORBIDDEN. I needn’t have worried – this sequel does not disappoint! I loved the historical details and the desolate and dangerous backdrop of the desert, the romance, and the fast paced narrative. But most of all I loved Jayden and her journey. I can’t wait to read the conclusion of this heart-pounding trilogy!

This second book in the series is as delicious as the first. The author writes Jayden's story in vivid, concrete poetic language--she puts me into the story. I am thrilled to recommend this book as it will not disappoint the reader! Now I can't wait for the next book in the series.

3/4 of this novel takes place in the desert... on their journey.
Now, I don't necessarily hate quest-type novels, but when practically the whole book is just a bunch of characters running across the desert to escape some lunatic who's hot on their trail, well... it's gets boring as hell really quick.
The last quarter of the book is when the MC and the rest of the crew *finally* reach their destination, and the story picks up its pace a bit.
The writing style was flowery, but decent enough for me to continue reading. However, I see the author has learned nothing about showing and not telling since the first book.
We're told the MC's betrothed - (ex-betrothed, whatever) Horeb is evil and that he's after her because she ran away from him.
The reader is told that he's psycho, deranged, that he killed his brother and his father to be the new *king* of their tribe. Many, many times we're told - but not once did he appear in the book.
The main character's (I keep forgetting her name) love interest was as one dimensional as the eeevvil Horeb.
Seriously, that prince (his name's Kadesh btw) was only two things: in luuurve with MC, or wanting to protect his own kingdom, which I DGAF about.
The worst bit about him was that he kept this big bad secret that had the MC worried for so many damn chapters, but it turned out to be a really pointless secret used to lure the poor reader into finishing the book.
Speaking of characters, the main character was just as meh as she was in book one.
But don't worry, she was beautifully meh.

She sticks with kadesh (the main love interest) and almost marries him. In fact, their wedding happened during the very last chapter - well it almost happened until - gasp - HOREB'S MEN ATTACKED!! OH NOOO....
yeah, still don't care. I think I will read the third book though, just for shits and giggles at this point.

Yes, Forbidden left me breathless. It was one of those books that took me away and made me experience all kinds of emotions. Set in the ancient Mesopotamian desert, it contains a plot full of intrigue, romance, danger, adventure and a shocking cliffhanger ending. I was, therefore, waiting all year for its sequel Banished. Once I got my hands on Banished, I hesitated to start reading it. Would it be as good as the first one?
Well Kimberley Griffiths Little did it again. She deftly swept me away once more into Jayden's world. Into that unforgiving hot desert, with the discovery of love once again and the enemy in close pursuit. Horeb, Jayden's former betrothed, will not give up until he gets what he wants. He is vengeful and has accumulated power and will stop at nothing to pursue his lust for more power. Jayden is his key to that power and he will use her to his advantage before killing her.
Jayden is such a real character, a young woman dealing with the loss of her family, tribe and position. She pursues what is right and uses her courage to protect and rescue those she loves, even at great cost to herself. She is selfless and vulnerable, beautiful and strong, smart and feisty. She escapes and there is the hope of better things ahead even with Horeb nipping at her heels as she flees.
The reader easily feels her emotions and we mourn and rejoice with her throughout. The author truly captures desert life and the powerful intrigue of the pagan gods worshipped in those days. Having studied the Bible for 25 years, I picked up all kinds of references to the life of those who lived in the Mesopotamian lands that much of it seemed familiar to me. The author also made many references to key scenes from the first book so that it easily came to mind and I can see how some will continue in the third book.
Once again, we experience various plot twists and just when you think things are going well, danger spills forth and we are cast again into gut-wrenching scenes. As in the first book, the ending is another cliffhanger preparing us for the final installment when Jayden and Kadesh's story will climax. I groaned as I turned the last page thinking that I have to wait another year before I can once again delve into this world so different from mine, so full of memorable characters and exotic places.
If you're a fan of YA and historical fiction that has a great cast of characters and plenty of action, romance and adventure, then this is the perfect book in which to escape. This book made it on my Best Books of 2016 list. I highly recommend reading Forbidden first and then Banished. And I cannot wait to read the final book that will bring it all to an amazing conclusion, no doubt.

Jayden is on her own and is traveling through the desert to find Kadesh. He was left for dead, but miraculously survived Horeb's brutal attack. Horeb is Jayden's evil betrothed, a cruel man she can't marry. Jayden and Kadesh want to get married, but they can only do that when they're in Kadesh's homeland. It's a long and strenuous journey and Horeb is right behind them. There are plenty of risks and there are many people they can't trust. Reaching their destination won't bring them any safety, a war is coming and Horeb is very well prepared. When Jayden discovers Kadesh has kept secrets from her all of their plans have to change once more. Will she be able to marry the love of her life or will Horeb get his way after all?
Banished is the second book of the Forbidden series. It's one of my all time favorite series. It's action packed, there are plenty of surprising twists and turns and the descriptions of the landscape are fabulous. Jayden is strong, fearless and resilient. She's smart enough to notice what's going on around her and she isn't afraid to speak up her mind. She does what she thinks she has to do no matter what the consequences will be. She fights for love, for a better future and for her family. She's a fantastic heroine. Kimberley Griffith's Little doesn't leave her main characters undamaged. They get harmed, they make mistakes and it's obvious they're only human which makes them extra wonderful. Jayden and Kadesh have good hearts and they're great together. Their future is unsure, but they're doing everything they can to make it good.
Banished is one big adrenaline rush. There's the chase through the desert and the threat of Horeb and his army. There are dangers lurking in every corner, both on the outside and from within their camp. I couldn't put this book down, I had to keep reading and couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see what would happen next. The ending of the story is spectacular. Kadesh's secrets are quite terrifying and all of a sudden there are two fronts to fight on instead of one. The tension is clear and very real. I absolutely love this series and highly recommend this fantastic roller coaster ride.

Banished by Kimberley Griffiths Little is the second book of the Forbidden series and it dives right back into the story. I admit, it had been a little while since I read Forbidden so I was a bit lost when I started but it quickly came back to me and I found myself pulled right back into Jayden’s story.
I loved seeing more than just the desert and Jayden’s family. We get to learn more about Kadesh and the secrets he has been holding on to. As Jayden and Kadesh flee for the safety of his kingdom, they find out who they can trust and who they can’t. There is quite a bit of action in this story as not only are they running across the desert but they face off with those who follow Horeb.
Neither of these characters is the same person they were in the first book. Jayden has faced challenge after challenge and she continues to grow both in strength and determination. She is willing to do anything she can to protect and save the people she loves. Kadesh has been through a lot as well and when these two finally come face to face with each other after being separated, it is clear he isn’t the same man. Regardless, he still loves Jayden and will protect her with everything he has at his disposal.
If you’re looking for a story about love, loss and perseverance definitely check this one out. Like the first book has a unique setting and some well-developed characters. As the story moved forward and I learned more about each one, I found myself wanting to know more. Check this one out when you can!

This book has so many feels in it. Jayden and Kadesh have been through so much in the time they have known each other and in the beginning of this book you think they are finally together, but then everything you can imagine tries to pull them apart again. All the rough travels, all the suspicion that follows them and the fear that they will never make it through it all to be together at last. They visit so many new places and experience so many hardships that I felt all beat up when it was over. The end was sad and ominous. Will they ever be able to find peace and be happily married to each other??? I am beginning to wonder if it will ever happen. Now I have to wait again for the next book, SIGH!!!!!

Amazing just as good as the first one. Big problem is that this book just came out and there is a huge cliff hanger and need the 3rd one like now! I hope the author writes more young adult because I think she work is incredible and her writing is amazing and want to read more from her. I love this series and it is one of my favorites this year.
