‘A powerful, practical guide that empowers us all to build wealth with confidence and pride.’ — Simran Kaur, Author of Girls That Invest
A large portion of this book includes principles from Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel, and Atomic Habits by James Clear.
I presume the intention of this book was to take the information from those books, and repackage it so it is more relevant for the (young) Kiwi or Māori audience that this book is primarily intended to reach. If that was the intention, then that has been achieved here.
This book was a journey to walk through. I took it slowly, to let lessons sink in. To think about different view points. A chapter every few days followed by writing down my answers to each wananga. The words just flowed out of me on to the page. From visualizing my dream home, to thinking about where I will be in 10,20 and 30 years and all the questions in between.
When I started this book... my money style was anxious. I was always wanting. Scared to spend yet found it almost impossible to save. I came empty handed after finally paying off my after pays for good. Day one I started my success fund. Now over half way to my first saving goal. Ending every week with a little more money than the previous week. Its not perfection but progress.
Worth every cent of its purchase price. A book I will read and reread as needed. Nga Mihi. Thank you Te Kahukura.
Such a cool way to help whaanau get started on their journey to bettering their finances! Absolutely loved it, such an easy read and especially loved the waananga pages! 100% would recommend, especially to our Maaori & Pasifika whaanau ❤️ Loved starting my year of reading off with this pukapuka!
This book is a beautiful concept of how to change your mindset regarding finances. This isn’t about actual figures but rather, a reflective perspective of how we, as Māori, view finances and the realistic strategies to overcome struggles. This is no ‘quick-money scheme’ book, this is about starting to create the future we all want, continuing to break the poverty cycle. I love how this book doesn’t have the ‘victim-mindset’. It talks about colonisation and how it has affected our culture, yet encourages us to use that as fuel to improve our lives for the better, not continue to dwell. While reading, I began implementing some of the strategies (adjusted to personal preference) and I already know this is going to help me. I have already passed on the book the same day I finished. Definitely believe everyone will benefit from this amazing book.
Culturally sensitive, trauma-informed finance advice? We love to see it. I particularly enjoyed the holistic approach that acknowledges and accounts for the human spirit. Provides tangible and meaningful steps that are ultimately so empowering. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone wanting to get a little more comfortable thinking and speaking about money.
Straightforward, solid, do-able advice. I like the way the book is laid out with clear explanations of each aspect of your personal money mindset, followed by insightful questions to prompt reflections, decisions, and commitments. A great resource.
This is an excellent book for everyone, it is more than money mindset but understanding how you want to show up everyday. Habitats creates your success and Te Kahukura is an incredible trailblazer to learn from.
