Dr Hinemoa Elder introduces us to a profound journey guided by Hinengaro, Māori goddess of the mind, leading us through 23 specific rua, caves, into the unfamiliar depths of Papatūānuku, our earth mother, and back to the surface again.
Hinengaro offers us a dedicated path to gather insights, face challenges and help us navigate the complexities of our minds.
A Māori guidebook of the mind is a resource for anyone seeking some comfort and clarity amid the chaos of our life’s path. Travel through this mind map navigating growth and discovery.
Join Dr Hinemoa Elder’s quest through these ancient rua and learn about the many gifts and lessons Hinengaro has waiting for you.
A birthday gift from my best friend, I was first stuck by (and loved) the spiralling contents page taking you to the heart of the 23 rua (caves) of Hinengaro (mind, awareness and consciousness).
Framed by Māori ways of thinking, it is still approachable for everyone.
Even though my own views and values didn’t always align, it was “the food of chiefs” which is the 14th rua encouraging speech, choice of words, debate and discussion.
It was also a good reminder for me of the richness of Te Reo, particularly my favourite word “ako” that acknowledges that the teacher and student are both learning.
One read through is not enough, and I suspect I will need to go back to this book many times to realise the richness. Luckily, each rua/chapter can stand alone so a great resource.
