First, a man became a dungeon core, then the dungeon became a hero, and now comes another incredible level, as this thrilling isekai adventure continues.
Transformed from a mortal man into a dungeon in a strange new reality, Thedeim has since gone from a know-nothing hovel to a do-everything force to be reckoned with. Through some hard work and an indomitable will, he’s gathered enough loyal followers and minions as well as a menagerie of creatures at his command to do some serious good. He’s gone from lowly to godly, and watchful eyes are taking notice.
But even after vanquishing the dreaded Maw, imprisoning the enigmatic Harbinger, and freeing Silvervein, Thedeim still has much to contend with. First of all, he has multiple allied dungeons to support, including his eager protégée, Violet, and a newly spawned mini dungeon. Meanwhile, a meddling Crown Inspector has been dispatched to see if the rumors are true about this incredible expanding dungeon in the North. Plus, a representative of Order—the overseer of the system—is on its way to collect the Harbinger and offer Thedeim an elevated existence he never thought possible.
Now, with more and more lives in his care and even more threats forming in the darkness, Thedeim will have to learn the difference between merely acting like a god and actually being one.
The fourth volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than seven million views on Royal Road—now available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook!
This was a fun continuation of one of the best dungeon core series I've found. Volume 4 is often a crossroads for me in a series and a common dropping point, so I'm happy to have enjoyed this as much as I did.
The plot is about 30% following up with the resolution of last volume's battle against the Maw, 60% slice of life crafting and character development, and then 10% setting the stage for Volume 5's main antagonist.
Something I appreciated here was how entertaining this volume was despite the slower progression of the plot. Many other series take a break to setup the next volume and it often gives the impression the author is trying to buy time while thinking of their next idea. That wasn't the case here and, while the pace slows a bit, it still feels like we are on a steady and pre-established path.
Multiple elements were foreshadowed and I can't wait to see how things develop next volume with the political pressures and how far we expand into kindom-level complications with neighboring principalities.
Not terrible but definitely a cool down book compared to the action of the last. Mostly just resetting and setting up the next arc. There are a few character developments but nothing I'd consider a massive reveal or a massive plot point. Still a fun light read which is enhanced but the author's writing style.
We have a continuation with everything that was book 3, its still a wholesome little dungeon core fantasy story with some fun characters and an evolving world. There is as always some power creep weirdness, and where the story got an editor to help clean things up its hitting a stage where "this happens, and then this happens, and then this happens" without nearly as much character.
Its a far cry from the delight of book 1, but ive still been keeping up on royal road and preordered myself the 4th book before I decided to stop buying more of them so here we are!
Ive said this about so few series but I get sad when they are great and the book ends. Fortunately the story continues and ive only my inpatient mind to deal with. Looking forward to the next book
I enjoy Thedm and his ways. Reading (well, listening) to this was like stepping back into a cozy christmas tree lit room. The room I'm in now probably caused this statement.
I also suspect that it was released to me early given that the release date is a week from now.
The book mostly serves as a wrap up of the previous books and a set up for the next 'bad'. We're well into character bloat of course, adding more scions and some named kobolds, etc. But I can't wait for more.
I loved this continuation about Thediem and all the characters of Fourdock. I didn't know how the author would weave the idea of him becoming a god, but it perfectly fit who Thediem is. And the rest of the book just flowed naturally but I'm ready for the next book. I think Rezlar's dad could give them all a bit of trouble.
So excited to finally have gotten to read volume 4! I have been reading since the reddit times. I am constantly amazed at how engaging this series stays. I can not say enough about getting all the different viewpoints in this series. Even getting the pov of characters that can't speak feels exciting!
I was wait in with anticipation for another book in this series to come out. I wasn’t disappointed with the direction the plot went. Feels like meeting new and catching up with old friends and visiting for a while. Once again, I’m left waiting for another.
