Like Her #4

Christmas with Her

Rate this book
Christmas is Pam Sutton’s favorite time of the year. Everything about the season is kitschy and over-done, but she can’t get enough. When, on the day of her annual holiday party, her longtime girlfriend betrays her in a horrible way, her world shatters. Suddenly, every dependable and joyful corner of Pam’s life feels like a lie.

Michelle Vega hates Christmas. She low-key also hates people in general. Despite this, when a co-worker she can actually tolerate invites her to a holiday party, she decides to go. What she finds there—the most vulnerable yet captivating woman she’s ever met—changes her life in a way she never expected.

In the aftermath of a chaotic Christmas season, can Pam and Vega find a way toward happiness…together?

This was a solid, well-written story that tackled heavy topics while still delivering plenty of emotion, intimacy, and a hopeful ending. I really connected with Pam and Vega, and I loved how the story came full circle while leaving the door open for their future together. It’s not your typical holiday romance (which is a good thing). My only complaint is that I wish it were longer!

I'm a fan of Zedde's, and this book didn't dissapoint. It did surprise me, though. For a Christmas story, it deals with some pretty heavy topics.

I love the Stud/femme vibes, no pun intended. But on that note strap in. Phew, hot!!

I'm not going to rehash the plot as it would involve spoilers. Just do yourself a favour and read it.

I received an ARC, which did not influence my rating.

4.5 stars!!

If you're looking for a holiday read that's absolutely bursting with emotion and features a beautiful sapphic romance, then you've got to check this one out.

This book is such an incredible journey. It delves into the messy, passionate, and sometimes heartbreaking complexities of love, betrayal, anger and longing.
What really stood out to me was the amazing dynamic between Pam and Vega. Their chemistry is absolutely electric from the start and makes for such compelling reading.

I received an ARC of this novel and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Our favorite Fiona Zedde series is back with a holiday special! Like many romance series, we are now focusing on a bestie of a protagonist from an earlier book in the series. This made me want to go back and read Stud Like Her, so I could have a bit more context for who Pam was.

I feel this with most Fiona Zedde books, but it’s very 2013 over here, said with the most affection possible! The characters have these beautiful natural updos that remind me of the YouTube cosmetology era, and everyone’s takes on ENM are veryyyy dated but in a hilarious way. Some of the characters have Fiona Zedde’s trademark one-liners, while others are themselves the comedic relief. I love how there’s always a slightly villainous, very humorous self-hating character we can laugh about. There are some typos/name slips/other grammatical errors here, which I don’t blame self/indie-published authors for at all! What I will say is Fiona Zedde, if you’re seeing this, I would gladly copy edit your books FOR FREE—please hit my line, LOL.

The most moving sections here are Pam’s changing life goals to stand up for herself, and her rumination on a friendship breakup in a period of life where friendship is becoming all the more crucial:

She wasn’t fifteen or even twenty-five anymore. The friends she had now were the friends she’d imagined keeping for life. Sharing her struggles with. Having playdates with their kids. Spending time together on vacation. Retiring with. Natasha, she used to think, was someone she’d have in her life forever. (109)

The end is a bit annoying, just in that I don’t love them running off to this unknown town when all their people are in Atlanta! But otherwise, we have a sweet and straightforward romance novella. It doesn’t hit the peak of Just Like Her, but that’s hard to do with only 150 pages and one 💥scene💥. Let’s hope Book #5 in this series is another full-length pick!

Fionna Zedde has written a sweet holiday book fraught with lots of anger, cheating, love, heartbreak, and a realization for both of the main characters.

Vega & Pam bonded over a Christmas morning when Pam was devastated & heartbroken after what she found out.

Join these two women on the journey from one Christmas to the following Christmas, you won’t regret it!

I received an ARC from the author.

As usual, Fiona has writen relatable and layered characters that I intend to revisit many times. Using themes of lost, betrayal and abandonment, her characters find love, healing and positive change. My only wish is that there will be a followup to this book. Excellent read!

This book is so good! If you’re looking for a cute sapphic romance to read for the holiday, this book had me locked in from the first page. I just want to hug Vega. Her family pissed me off so bad. She deserves all the love and care in the world. Pam is better than me though. Me and bestie would have to fight after that.

I love the first three books in this series, this one felt slow low and rushed. Not as thought out as the previous books. 3.5 stars
