Hi everyone!

My name is Dee Dee, I'm twenty seven and I live in a beautiful part of Devon, England, with my family.

That introduction made me feel a little bit like I was on Blind Date!!!

As our house is in the countryside we have some unusual neighbours including chickens, ducks, geese, pheasants, a cat (that adopted us when we moved in!!!) and some koi. I also have a very long suffering younger sister, Jingle, who is a brilliant guitar player. She keeps me supplied with coffee and brownies, generally making sure that the Chant household doesn't grind to a halt.

I really hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them.
I love reading and have a kindle, I enjoy almost every genre; if there is adventure and romance I'll be there with coffee and a brownie! I also like to cook and wear impractical high heels! You may also have noticed that I have a horrible addiction to exclamation marks!!!

This is another wonderfully written dystopia journey. As most of you know I am more of a fan of romance that anything else. So even though there wasn’t a lot of romance this was still an intriguing story with some mystery that kept me entertained as I worked my way through the pages.

I found Astra and Kai to be interesting couple and I liked seeing how they went from almost strangers to something more. They really grew as characters and I found them very interesting.

Severance is the second book in the The Chronicles of Discord series. I really feel that it cannot be read as a standalone. I will admit I was lost for a good portion of the beginning until I finally remembered what I had read in the first book. If you want to enjoy this book (and I know you do!) then I feel it is a must that you read Fractured first.

Sometimes I forget myself in a book. And when I stop reading, it takes me a minute to remember where I am. Or who I am.

I definitely experienced this while reading the second book in The Chronicles of Discord. 'Severance' continues the story of Kai and Astra, and the political issues between (and within) the Free Nation, the Una and the Tula. The accounts all flow together so smoothly, weaving the characters' individual stories into a beautiful tapestry of action, suspense and humour, with a hint of romance.

I found it fascinating how the different cultures are described in such depth; how the Una rely so much on tradition and have great respect for their history. It ties in nicely with how the characters turn out (Kai, Shin, Rem, etc). The plot develops further, introducing assassination and a conspiracy that threatens all Una families. There is so much emotion passionately conveyed throughout that you really do feel what they are feeling; I had to remember to stop and take a deep breath occasionally. The last chapter is a cliff-hanger, revealing a crucial puzzle piece that leaves you trying to turn to the next page as the penny drops. Eagerly awaiting #3, DeeDee.

The separation has begun…

This is the second book in the Chronicles of Discord series, following Fractured. I flew through Fractured, but this one I had to break for a few days around 60% through because all the politics. I felt like it was all politics, and a little hard to follow. Once i had my break, I did go back and finish. I understand the necessity of the political structure, it just felt overladen for a minute. I did really enjoy it once I went back and will continue to read the series. :)

The sequel to Fracture in The Chronicles of Discords is as good as the first book. Severance has a solid plot, a well thought background where every detail has been placed somewhere for a reason.

At first it was hard to remember who was who, and like the first time it took we a while to recall every name. I had to go and read my review for book one because I couldn't recall what was going on. There are so many subplots that it's easy to get lost. However, once you get into the story and get all the names in place, Severance is a really good book. A dystopia with good doses of mystery and a sweet romance.

The central story this time is focused on Astra and Kai. After taking the final vows to consolidate their arranged marriage, they will have to rely in each other in order to survive. Two strangers forced into an uncomfortable situation will lead to a sweet story about two people getting to know each other and finding out that they are no so different after all.

Astra continues being the strong, brave woman I remember. Kai is a character difficult to know. He acts according to the rules and uses tradition as his anchor, however, as we read we get to know different sides of him to eventually discover a likeable character. These two together are a couple full of suprises and good moments.

The action is always present with the different alliances and the evil plans to rule the different nations. Even though this time the action takes places mostly in the Una nation we still have glimpses of the Tula territory, those chapters hold a lot of important information.

I really liked the fight scenes because is funny and interesting imagine a future where once more men fight with swords instead of guns. It adds a fantasy element, one that I enjoyed a lot.

The writing allows us to picture each scenario due to its details. The characters are all really good, the good ones have remarkable characteristics and most of them have their small moment in the spotlight.

Overall, this one is a great dystopia. It's a sequel that continues making the series even better.

Side note... I should give the author less stars for keeping me waiting for so long to read this book. I hope book 3 comes faster because there is a lot to solve and I can't wait to read more.

Severance by D.D. Chant
The Chronicles of Discord Book Two
The adventure continues where it left off in book one of this series, Fracture. Several cultures are clashing and blending. Greedy men want to rule and gain power, no matter who they have to hurt to do so.

Astra had entered Una in book one. As a child she ended up in Tula with another family after most of her own died in an attack. She wasn’t accepted there, and she’s not well accepted in her own nation. In Una she is known as Aya and was betrothed to Kai of the House of Sen. The book touches on their story with Kai, her step-family and her true brother, Rem.

D.D. Chant does not always write everything nice and rosy. This is war. And in war, people die. The story has the touches of romance but is stronger on the adventure side. And it doesn’t quite end in a cliffhanger and yet you know that there will be a book three coming in the future. I’ve enjoyed both stories and look forward to more.

Hook line and sinker

The writing is good, the story is bold, and the plot it's well disguised. Now I have to wait for book three.
