Вірогідно, перед нами найперша адаптація твору Лавкрафта від Танабе. Молодий художник взявся за короке Лавкрафтівсько-ЕдгарПоївське-Камюшне оповідання про чужинця у світі людей.
Я дуже очікував на зображення польоту Стороннього між свої братів ґулів, але його Ґо уникає.
Відкритий фінал, проліт вниз головою із опівнічного замку...

...але всі твої дії підсвідомо, неконтрольовано воплочуються словами про портали і анфілади, про видовжені коридори і опочекальні, в черепі ряд слів і образів ані на мент не затух, голос не стих, образ не зник, бо замок велик, 'cause castle is vast, 'nd gore 'nd ghast, властолюбителю щастя туй не запопасти тобі, зіниці в тебе обі продані - на місце підготоване вкладені, мозаїка, заїкаючись, сліпо летиш по звишках, нагло падеш...

Les nouvelles sont très inégales. Celle basée sur Lovecraft m'a glacé le sang, et j'ai trouvé le concept de Ju-Ga original, bien que peu développé. Le dessin du mangaka a beaucoup évolué depuis.

Man, was really looking forward to reading some of the adaptations Gou Tanabe has done based on H.P. Lovecraft's work. I love the reverence some of the Japanese culture seems to have for Lovecraft. It seems like they appreciate his contributions to horror sometimes more than we do in the west.

With that said, Tanabe's adaptation of The Outsider was a miss for me. The stories primary reason for being is the ending of the story, what comes before is predicated on the ending and I think the art largely misses the point of the story. I think the art is *good* art, but that doesn't save it from missing the entire point to me.

I'll give Tanabe's work another try next Halloween season, but for now I'm pretty disappointed it didn't work for me.

Es un relato algo complicado de hacer interesante fuera de lo literario. Tanabe encuentra ciertos puntos de interés en esa urbe megalítica y olvidada de la que busca salir el protagonista anónimo. Pero la sorpresa no surte el mismo impacto aunque en el relato original se extrema en parquedad de detalles. Pero ese peregrinaje se vuelve más sobrecogedor.

La revisite de la nouvelle de Lovecraft, Je suis d'ailleurs, est très bien et visuellement forte. Cependant, j'ai moins aimé le trait de Tanabe dans les autres histoires de ce recueil, assez inégales par ailleurs.

Les nouvelles sont inégales, certaines sont vraiment inintéressantes donc assez moyenne. Celle de Lovecraft n'est pas vraiment à la hauteur de celles de ki-oon. Le dessin est lui aussi un peu plus faible et moins abouti

Que bonitas ilustraciones, en este caso si prefiero el cuento original que juega más con el suspenso y alarga el final. Aun así, es una buena adaptación.

The Outsider est un manga somme toute inégal mais qui nous offre tout de même une bonne lecture et qui permet de découvrir les premières oeuvres de Gou Tanabe. C’est le manga le moins intéressant que j’ai lu de lui jusqu’à maintenant mais cela reste à lire si vous aimez l’horreur ou êtes un grand amateur de cet artiste.
