"𝘐𝘧 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳, 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩."

What a perfect beauty and the beast retelling! I was so captured into this one immediately, and it just got better and better!

It starts out with Belle searching for her father, and stumbling upon a no trespassing castle. She's taken in by the lord of the castle, (the beast) and is now a servant - or rather, guest. It was the most beautiful slow burn, enemies to lovers aesthetic, you could feel every emotion and heartache right along with them, as they each fought through their battles to heal and find each other, and back to God.

If you enjoy a clean, closed-door fairy retelling, with the perfect amount of romance & healing, then I highly recommend this one!! 🩷

‘“It’s the only way.” Her voice quivered when she added, “tell our family I love them.”

She hadn’t known it was possible to see someone’s heart break until she saw it in Da’s eyes. Her own heart shattered as she turned back to Mr. Maxwell. “I’ll stay. I give you my word.”’

One Scottish castle. One brooding hero. And one woman about to discover that love can heal even the deepest scars.

This is an amazing Beauty and the Beast retelling with a distinctly Scottish flair with tempers. I was first drawn in by the stunning cover (yes, I totally judge books by their covers sometimes!) and my curiosity about reading a debut author’s work—but what I found inside was even better. It delivered all the elements readers adore about Beauty and the Beast while still feeling fresh and original. I loved the unique touches like the music lessons and the slow, sometimes stubborn, process of these two learning to trust—and keep their tempers—in each other’s company.

This book is available now, and I highly recommend adding it to your TBR if you love heartfelt romance, vivid settings, and characters who stay with you long after you turn the last page.

Happy Reading 📚

I am a romance reader through and through and THIS had some of the most romantic scenes I’ve ever read, all packed in one book. I love Beauty and the Beast and this version of it, wow, it was everything I wanted and more.

Isabel's father has been imprisoned at Luke Maxwell's castle, but Isabel decides to stay in his place. Luke has a curse he needs to break, one he hopes Belle can help him with. But she is his prisoner. Could she even consider helping him? As she remains at the castle, forced proximity works its magic, pulling both of them in. But with Luke's determination to break his curse, how can Belle be sure his feelings are genuine? And truth be told, she misses her family, no matter how much the castle is growing on her. Can he rid himself of the curse? Will she ever return home? Will she even want to once her stay at the castle is finished?

I loved this. Luke's character was so romantic. Belle’s heart and her willingness to sacrifice her freedom for her family was so sweet. The romance growing between Luke and Belle was perfect. I tabbed so many pages. The faith interwoven throughout was the icing on the cake for this romance. Wow. I now need more books by Amy.

I received a complimentary copy. This review reflects my honest opinion.

“Would you stop yelling at me and just listen? I am trying to tell you that I love you.”

This is hands down my favorite Beauty and the Beast retelling I have ever read. I loved every moment of this book! The storyline was distinctive enough that I didn’t feel like I knew exactly what was going to happen next. I loved the subtle faith themes too!

Isabel ‘Belle’ is brave, stubborn, and determined. I loved when she would stand up to Mr. Maxwell. I enjoyed seeing Belle build friendships with all the residents of the castle. I adored watching her friendship with Luke grow and all of the tender moments they shared. I especially loved when Belle shared her faith with Luke and her always telling him “I don’t believe in curses”. Mr. Maxwell, Luke, is protective and kind. He is a giant teddy bear to Belle. I loved watching him fall for her, and all the little things he would do for her. His struggle with his belief in his curse was heart breaking at times. I loved his surrender to God and HIS plan for his life. Prepare yourself for the piano lessons 🫠 and that final chapter! 🥰

A few more quotes:
“Can I get you anything?” He shook his head. “You’re here now, and that is all I need.”

“He is a handsome man, even with the scar. Maybe even more handsome because of it. He’s protective and formidable. No one with any sense would dare cross him.”

“I ache with missing him, . . . I don’t feel whole.” One side of Da’s mouth lifted. He took Belle’s hand and softly replied, “He holds your world in his fingertips.”

“If he’s willing to trust you and offer you grace for your rough edges, you could offer him a little grace for his.”

"I don't want to live my life without you," he said, pressing his forehead to hers. "I need you." He pulled away and locked eyes with her. "I need you to help me remember to laugh and remind me of what is actually important. I need to see your smile each day..."
"I need you too," she whispered.

Under the Scottish Sky by Amy Coburn Crawford

Here is another debut where I'm like what?? This is just her first novel? I can hardly believe that because this book was soooooo good!
First of all, I loved the idea of a Scottish Beauty and the Beast retelling. Can't get better than that! And Amy delivered 100% with all the swoony parts, Scottish vibes, and Beauty and Beast retelling. And just look at that cover! It's so pretty!!

Luke Maxwell. Wounded from his past, believes a curse was placed upon him. I loved watching him heal from that past and come to love Belle. His story is such a beautiful redemption story.

Belle, or Isabel, follows her dog to a crumbling castle where resides the grumpy cursed Mr. Maxwell. She agrees with him to take the place of her Da. I love her sweet, kind spirit. She is also fierce and determined to make the best of things, all the while missing her family. She has a great head on her shoulders. She relies on God and His path for her. I loved her interactions with the various side characters--Daqi, Margaret, her da, and her siblings. She is full of grace, beauty, and love for so many.

I loved the moments of stargazing, the piano lessons, his surprise, working in the garden, and so many other parts. I loved this book and will definitely be rereading it in the future!

Thank you Amy for allowing me to be on your ARC team! I will cherish my copy of the book forever.

3.5 stars. I wanted to love this book. Scotland and Beauty and the Beast are two of my favorite things. There were just a couple things that bugged me so I wasn’t invested in the story. It’s totally a me problem. I thought it was very well written and the retelling of a classic was intriguing. It was fun to read parallels from the original. I’ll try again when I’m in the right mood.

Taking place in Scotland, in the late 1700s, this Christian historical romance was a good read. It is a traditional Beauty and the Beast retelling (my favorite fairy tale). I loved the Scotland locale and the unique way the witch’s curse was woven into this story. As Belle came to find her place and friends in the dilapidated castle, I enjoyed watching her and Luke grow in trust and faith. It was a lovely read that had both painful moments and moments of sweet romance. This is a great debut for Crawford and I’m interested to see what she has planned next. This is a just kisses romance, intimacy level 1.

I fell in love with this swoon-worthy romance! Luke, the quintessential protector, hides a heart full of secret romanticism that makes the story all the more captivating. Belle embodies a vibrant spirit full of curiosity and a genuine willingness to learn. Her bravery and strong sense of duty shine through, even as she navigates her own challenges. Both Belle and Luke face personal trials that teach them the importance of faith and trust in God. I wholeheartedly recommend this beautiful book—it's truly a captivating read that resonates on many levels! I received a complimentary e-copy of this book and read it with pleasure. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairy tale and this retelling did not disappoint! I loved the banter between the main characters and the Scottish setting was lovely. I loved how realistic it was to the time period and setting while being fictional. I also loved how the characters mention their relationship with God and how that relationship changes over the course of the story. This story was beautifully told and had a beautiful message of looking for the good in one’s circumstances.

A riveting and enchanting retelling of a classic fairy tale story.
I still am in awe that this is Amy Coburn Crawford’s debut novel. The finesse and overall elegance of this story gives you the impression of a well-seasoned, and well-loved, author. If this is how Amy is starting out, I absolutely cannot wait to see what she publishes down the road.
Being swept away to late 18th century Scotland was the perfect start to this book. The landscape, lifestyle, and history itself comes alive through the artistic and realistic descriptions, no detail was missed.
And don’t even get me started on Isabel and Luke. They quickly became some of my favorite main characters and I really enjoyed their growth and development throughout the story. Isabel has a fire inside her that both benefits her, yet also gets her in some self-made predicaments. She doesn’t give up or take the easy way out, and I loved her determination, but also the way she comes to understand Luke, his circumstances, and even herself. And dear, sweet Luke. He is the epitome of a strong, capable, and yes, sometimes headstrong hero. He has so much weight on his shoulders and is really narrow-minded on how to figure out the solution to his problem. But he also has this sweet, caring, and extremely thoughtful side. His tenderness towards Isabel is truly swoon-worthy and I could go on for forever on how adorable their piano lesson and start gazing moments are.
This book definitely found its place in my top five favorite reads of 2025. It has everything you could ever want in a historical romance fairytale retelling. Be ready to be transported back to a captivating time and enchanting place in a magical story that you’re sure to love.

I was a little skeptical as this book first started that is was just the same old Beauty and the Beast story but it is so much better. I knew from the time Belle and Luke first meet that this was going to be a very interesting relationship development. The characters are great (including Sam the dog) and it was so hard to put this book down. Just when things start to look like they are resolving, something happens and the conflict continues. I love how the backstories of the main characters are not laid out all at once but rather they get told over the course of the book and are so cleverly woven into the events as they transpire. Such a great book - I highly recommend.

This is one that will find a permanent place on your bookshelf and will be an annual reread!

“Under the Scottish Sky” by Amy Coburn Crawford is a captivating and beautifully crafted retelling of Beauty and the Beast, set against the vivid backdrop of 18th-century Scotland. Crawford skillfully weaves historical detail into an enchanting narrative, immediately transporting readers to a world rich with atmosphere, family ties, and heartfelt emotion.

Isabel Nicol, our determined heroine, leaps off the page from the very first chapter. Her fierce loyalty to family, strength of character, and compassionate heart makes her journey all the more gripping. The evolution of Isabel’s relationship with Luke Maxwell, the haunted and complex master of Caerlaverock Castle, is thoughtfully and convincingly portrayed. Their interactions are filled with palpable tension and tender moments that feel both earned and satisfying.

The author’s talent for building realistic and nuanced relationships shines through every page, especially in the portrayal of Isabel’s protective bond with her younger sister Grizel, which brought tears to my eyes more than once. The supporting characters, particularly the wise and caring Daqi, add depth and warmth to the narrative, creating a world readers won’t want to leave.

“Under the Scottish Sky” isn’t just a simple fairytale—it’s a powerful exploration of love, trust, forgiveness, and finding beauty beneath life’s harsh surfaces. Amy Coburn Crawford’s evocative prose and heartfelt storytelling make this novel an unforgettable experience. A must-read for lovers of historical romance and classic retellings!

All the love for this creative, romantic, heartfelt, faith inspiring Beauty & the Beast retelling. I was captivated by Under the Scottish Sky from the start & couldn’t wait to see how a fiery, hot tempered Scottish lass would fare against the strong, equally stubborn, scarred English gentleman. Amy Coburn Crawford’s brilliant 18th century retelling has all the familiar elements from the beloved fairytale with its own unique spin.

Isabel “Belle” Nivol loves fiercely, especially her family. But, she’s decided never to marry. Her difficult past has made her protect her heart & shy away from men. But when her father’s caught stealing a valuable flower from the neighboring castle, she agrees to take his place & punishment.

The gruff, scarred owner though has more in mind. Though he treats her like a guest instead of a prisoner, he needs her to marry him to break a witch’s curse. Belle’s adamant that she won’t marry, but as she gets to know Luke, she appreciates his hidden depths, thoughtfulness, talents, & his strong comforting presence. Though she’s falling in love with him, she doesn’t know if she can trust him & longs to return to her family.

Luke Maxwell’s desperate to undo the curse forcing him to stay in Caerlaverock Castle. When he meets Belle, he’s both captivated & troubled by her beauty. He’s also a bit intimidated by her fiery temper. But, as he sees the passionate, kind hearted woman underneath, he finds he wants to marry her not only to break the curse, but because he’s fallen in love with her. Despite all his efforts, it seems hopeless unless he can find the courage to do the impossible.

I thoroughly loved this story. Belle’s a force to be reckoned with! I adored her strong faith, humor, & willingness to look beyond appearances. She brings sunshine & light into Luke’s life & I enjoyed all their moments together including: music lessons, gazing at the Aurora Borealis, sharing books & their pasts, the Mistletoe origin story, & so much more. I also loved Luke’s faith journey & Belle’s learning to trust.

The side characters are amazing too. I enjoyed Dani, Margaret, Mr. & Mrs. Adderly, & Belle’s family as well. I’d love to get Ann’s & Griz’s stories! Highly recommend this fabulous retelling! I received an advanced copy from the author with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are completely my own & voluntarily provided.

Whoa! What an amazing debut novel! I’m left a little addlepated after reading Crawford’s reimagining of Beauty and the Beast. Sheer brilliance about sums it up and I am an avid retelling fan so I don’t take these reinterpretations lightly. I’m always amazed at the way an author can blend folklore traditions with their own unique plotting and this author has meshed the two into an amazing historical romance with emotional depth and light (but significant) touches of faith.

Setting the tale in the Scottish lowlands adds an extra thrill and the way Isobel winds up prisoner at Caerlaverock Castle is cleverly crafted. And oh my, but Luke is definitely type-cast for the role of Beast! I wasn’t sure what to make of him at first. Luckily Isobel’s fiery temper helps her match wits with Luke despite having spent the last few years striving to honour her mother’s memory by living up to the admonishment to strive to ‘be kind.’

There’s such a delicious push/pull between Luke and Isobel. Mostly because Luke keeps getting everything wrong! Sometimes it’s laugh out loud funny, while other times I found myself cringing. Silly man! But there are tender moments too. And awkwardly sweet ones. The kind of romance that tugs at a reader’s heartstrings.

And the whole story plays out in an unhurried manner, with captivating secondary characters to add to the heartwarming ambience of a classic fairy tale. Crawford’s exquisite storytelling invites a reader to settle in and savour every artfully crafted scene. In fact, I stopped listening several times just because I didn’t want my time with these characters to be over!

And yes, that means this is another audible ‘read’ for me, narrated by the fabulous Noah Wall. She always delivers an exceptional listening experience.

Beautiful Beauty and the Beast retelling!

Desperate to save her father who is being held captive, Isabel makes a bargain with Luke Maxwell, the mysterious newcomer at the castle: she will stay in her father's stead. Though she is surprised to be treated as a guest rather than a prisoner or even a servant, Isabel cannot seem to convince the scarred man who holds her future in her hands that she is not the woman destined to break his curse.

What you'll love:
Beauty and the Beast retelling
Georgian era
set in Scotland
dual pov
he falls first
stargazing
enemies to lovers vibes
the small gestures
Sam the bloodhound
music lessons
protective hero
she nurses him
swoony kisses!!

Such a beautiful retelling of the classic fairytale! I loved all the familiar and nostalgic elements of Beauty and the Beast that were included but there were lots of twists and unique parts that made the story all it's own and left me guessing as to how the author would resolve everything. And that it was set in a castle in Scotland with a Scottish heroine? Yes, please!

Loved the character growth that happened for both Isabel and Luke as their annoyed and frustrated feelings with each other took a turn for something much swoonier. Their journey of trust and vulnerability and love was full of heartaches and challenges but that made the happily ever after all the sweeter! So many memorable sweet and tender moments together and I loved them all, especially the ones under the stars.

This was a well-paced and well-written debut novel and I enjoyed every page of it! I could not put it down and look forward to reading more from this author in the future!

I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.

I was excited to read this Beauty and the Beast retelling but I wasn't prepared to love it as much as I did! In 18th-century Scotland, Isabel Nicol's world is upended when her father is accused of theft, and the only way to protect her family is to make a deal that costs her her freedom. The bargain is with Luke Maxwell, an Englishman hiding out in Caerlaverock Castle, weighed down by a family curse he’s desperate to break—by marrying a woman who has sacrificed for love. Isabel seems to be the answer to his prayers, but she has sworn never to marry.

This story is not just a romance, but a tale about two people learning to let their walls down. Watching Isabel and Luke go from reluctant allies to genuine friends—and maybe something more—feels natural and real. Both characters have a strong faith, but they're also stubborn, so I got frustrated with them a couple of times. Because of her past, Isabel struggled to trust Luke, and even after he proved himself, her stubbornness and fear kept her from admitting it. "But from the sounds of it, the problem isn't that you are afraid you don't trust Mr. Maxwell. I think you're frightened by how much you do."

There's so much to love in this book:
Dual POV (always a favorite)
The piano lessons (who knew they could be so swoony)
Enemies to lovers (one of my favorite tropes)
He falls first (a new favorite of mine)
The books (what's Beauty & the Beast without books)

I loved many of the side characters: Daqi, Margaret, and Mrs. Adderly who were so kind and helpful to Isabel, and I can't leave out Sam, Isabel's bloodhound. If you enjoy historical romance with strong characters and a faith-filled message, Under the Scottish Sky will keep you turning pages.

Blurb: Descripción general del libro
In the rolling lowlands of eighteenth-century Scotland, Isabel Nicol is known for her fiery spirit, hot temper, and striking beauty. But when her father is accused of trespassing and theft by the occupant of a mysterious castle, Isabel’s fortitude is tested as never before. Desperate to save her father from debtors’ prison and her sisters from certain ruin, she strikes a daring bargain: her freedom for her father’s release.

Luke Maxwell has fled his home in England in a hasty bid to outrun the dark magic that has made his life a misery. Confined within the ancient walls of Caerlaverock Castle, his only hope is to marry a woman who has made a sacrifice of love—a requirement that Isabel has now fulfilled. Convincing her to accept his hand should be an easy task for an English gentleman with means. Unfortunately, Luke’s resolve to break the curse can be rivaled only by Isabel’s determination never to marry. As they navigate their complicated arrangement, an unexpected friendship grows, but opening their hearts to a future they never thought possible will require that they first put their trust in God and heal from the shadows of their pasts.

Great job from new author Amy crawford! A good retelling of Beauty and the beast without being so similar to the usual stories. Well written characters and a Castle that could be as terrifying as cozy. The story has a bit of faith elements.
Thanks Amy for this book!

I love the story of beauty and the beast. As I started reading this retelling of a classic, I was surprised how much it followed the well-known version. other than it was set in Scotland. But my interest was piqued. As I continued to read, bits and pieces began to break off from the traditional tale and it began to build into an reimagined, intriguing storyline. By this point, I was completely captivated. The story had enough differentiating elements to keep it compelling and entertaining. I enjoyed the characters, Belle and Luke, both had childhood trauma to work through. It was beautiful to watch as they learned to trust each other and find faith in God. This is a first book by this author, and I am looking forward to reading more books from her. I enjoyed learning this main character of Isabel was based on an ancestral member of her family, and the castle was based on a real ruin in Scotland. I appreciate that it is a clean romance, with no foul language. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I love Beauty and the Beast retellings and this one was REALLY good! The Scottish setting was excellent for the broken down castle in the woods and the circumstances leading to Belle becoming a prisoner were really well done. Luke is such a great character and I loved any interaction he had with Belle. She was a stubborn lass which just drew her to Luke even more. Both characters had less than ideal moments in their pasts and trauma to fight through but they were able to find a measure of peace. Both learned so much from the other about trust and true love and forgiveness. Their love story was really sweet. And let’s not forget our side characters! They were wonderful and I was just as invested in their stories as our leading couple. The ending was absolutely lovely and had me cheering the whole time! I really enjoyed this twist to a familiar “tale as old as time” 😁.

I loved this Beauty and the Beast retelling!!! It's a must read for those who love cozy and sweet romance stories. Set in late 1700s Scotland, this story tells of Isabel's stay at a beautiful but broken down castle in Scotland (which the author says is a real place) with a brooding and angry master, Luke. Though the castle doesn't boast magical servants, the cast of characters embody those we love from Beauty and the Beast. Speaking of characters, the "Gaston" character doesn't have a huge role, which I actually really liked. It allows the reader to focus more on Isabel and Luke's relationship. Since the fairy tale involves magic, the author uses a belief in witches and curses to make Luke believe he is cursed and must find someone to marry to break it. But I love the overarching message of hope and trusting in God to move through life's trials that permeates the novel. I highly recommend reading this feel-good story of change, love, and acceptance.

This Beauty and the Beast tale set in Scotland is amazing!!!! Such an epic and sweet story!

Isabel volunteers to take her father’s punishment when he angers a local land owner. Instead of having to work, Isabel is treated like a guest. Luke believes that Isabel can save him from his ruined life.

Highlights:
The music lessons are so sweet!
Star gazing
Tracking the stag together

I love Isabel because she is brave and stubborn. I love her desire to learn and help.

I love Luke for being protective and patient. I love that he listens.

“Miss Belle got under his skin more than any woman he had ever met, but even though she set up his bristles, he couldn’t deny that her bold retorts and the fire in her eyes were beyond captivating. Depending on the moment, he either wanted to thoroughly kiss the woman or pick her up and throw her into the moat. It was hard to say which scenario was more probable at this point.”
This was an ARC, all thoughts are my own.

Oh my heart!! I love retellings, and this is a top Beauty and the Beast retelling for me! Amy has done a beautiful job of including the lore we all know and love, with her unique twist to the story! I used a full sheet of tabs with how much I highlighted and marked in this book!! This B&B retelling is perfection!! You will never believe this is her debut novel!!

“𝐼𝓉’𝓈 𝒻𝓊𝓃𝓃𝓎 𝒽𝑜𝓌 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝓉𝓇𝓎 𝓈𝑜 𝒽𝒶𝓇𝒹 𝓉𝑜 𝓇𝓊𝓃 𝒶𝓌𝒶𝓎 𝒻𝓇𝑜𝓂 𝒾𝓈 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓋𝑒𝓇𝓎 𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝓌𝒾𝓁𝓁 𝓉𝑒𝒶𝒸𝒽 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓂𝑜𝓈𝓉 𝒶𝒷𝑜𝓊𝓉 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇𝓈𝑒𝓁𝒻.”

Isabel Nicol is a strong willed, outspoken woman who finds herself imprisoned after taking her father’s place when he was caught stealing a flower from the castle grounds. Her family needs their father at home; she can sacrifice herself to fulfil the debt owed. She will not allow such harsh punishment to befall her father, and her family…

Mr. Luke Maxwell has been cursed-destruction and ruin follows him wherever he goes. Caerlaverock Castle is his personal prison-he feels he cannot go anywhere else until his curse is broken. He will not risk ruining anything else. The cure for his curse was almost stolen from him and it shook him to his very core. The woman now living in his house is going a torment to him. Why he agreed to allow the trade, he did not know.

‘𝔻𝕖𝕡𝕖𝕟𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕠𝕟 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕞𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕥, 𝕙𝕖 𝕖𝕚𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕕 𝕥𝕠 𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕣𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕝𝕪 𝕜𝕚𝕤𝕤 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕨𝕠𝕞𝕒𝕟 𝕠𝕣 𝕡𝕚𝕔𝕜 𝕙𝕖𝕣 𝕦𝕡 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕥𝕙𝕣𝕠𝕨 𝕙𝕖𝕣 𝕚𝕟𝕥𝕠 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕞𝕠𝕒𝕥. 𝕀𝕥 𝕨𝕒𝕤 𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕕 𝕥𝕠 𝕤𝕒𝕪 𝕨𝕙𝕚𝕔𝕙 𝕤𝕔𝕖𝕟𝕒𝕣𝕚𝕠 𝕨𝕒𝕤 𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖 𝕡𝕣𝕠𝕓𝕒𝕓𝕝𝕖 𝕒𝕥 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕡𝕠𝕚𝕟𝕥.’

Luke allows Belle to live within the castle, as a guest, not a servant. She feels obligated to work and the sweet cook lets her help in the kitchen. Luke is enamored albeit frightened of Belle. She makes him think, engage in conversations, and adventure into the land around him. Belle does not believe in curses and she uses her faith to help Luke see the possibilities around him, despite the curse he believes plagues him.

‘𝑯𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒉𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒚 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒃𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝑴𝒊𝒔𝒔 𝑩𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒂 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉. 𝑯𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒆𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆.’

The character development of both Luke and Isabel is truly beautiful! The connection, the vulnerability, the tension and desire between them kept me pulled in and I did not put this book down. I read it in one sitting and then I read it again within a few weeks to savor every moment between Luke and Belle. I cannot say enough good things about this story! This story is a must read and is a favorite of 2025! Whenever I hear the word ‘Truly’ I will always remember this dear story. ❤️

“So you’re suggesting I sully our ragged reputation with the English by cleaning up and acting proper?”
Margaret laughed. “The cleaning up, maybe, but a true Scot knows better than to ever act proper.”

“I don’t want to live my life without you…I need you. I need you to help me remember to laugh and remind of what is actually important. I need to see your smile each day.”

‘Everything between them was mucky, but despite the mess, she knew that a world without Luke Maxwell was a world she couldn’t bear.’

First and foremost... I loved this book! Belle and Luke are some of my most favorite characters! I hope I can some day go and visit the castle this book was based off of!
Once you start this book you will not want to put it down!
It is based off beauty and the best retelling and she did such an amazing job! Thank you for letting me read your work!

I love fairy tale retellings and this is a fun retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Luke is living in a dilapidated castle and has been cursed because of his stepfather's sins. Isabel is a very beautiful girl with a fiery temper when provoked. When Isabel takes her fathers place for taking a prized flower sparks fly.
I love the way they both soften and learn from each other. I love the tender moments and the courting that takes place in unexpected ways. The give and take of the relationship. I admit to being a bit frustrated with Belle at times, but love how she resolved her feelings in the end.
If you love fairy tale retellings and true romance this is the book for you!

This was a fun palate (mind) -cleansing book I read to get the horrid details of "Fever in the Heartland" out of my head. It is a Beauty and the Beast retelling set in the 1700s in Scotland and I honestly thought it would just be silly but it turned out to be very entertaining. I'm glad I read it and will look for more fluff books from this authors. I like turning to a fluff book after a hard read.
