Rohnert comes from a long line of pure-blooded vampires. Quiet and principled, he is known for his combat expertise and is beloved by peers and students alike. Having broken away from the Vampire Council, Rohnert has nothing to do with the affairs of the elite group of Elders, which is being run into the ground by Goran, a former friend and ally.
With the vampire race in upheaval, he must rise to the occasion and fulfill the prophecy of the black book, which is the source of wisdom and history of his people. Refusing to support Goran’s tyrannical rule and with no interest in ruling himself, he allies with freedom fighters led by the indomitable Harrow Gates. However, the prophecies failed to prepare him to handle one passionate and determined human doctor.
Shelly Anderson vowed to never fall in love again, but her resolve quickly changes upon meeting enigmatic and reclusive Rohnert. Although she was lucky enough to get what she wanted, their one night together ended in a nightmare. Now carrying his baby, she intends to raise the child on her own, but Rohnert’s unexpected reentry into her life derails her plans.
While she teaches him how powerful a human’s love can be, Rohnert realizes the lengths he is willing to go to keep her close and safe, even if it means violating a long-standing decree among pure-blooded vampires to keep their bloodlines alive.
When Goran begins to kill off the remaining Elders, Harrow’s rebels urge Rohnert to step in, but it isn’t until harsh reality comes knocking at his door that his choice becomes clear. Rohnert must do whatever he can to save the people he loves or risk losing them forever, but the reluctant savior may already be too late to protect the lives that matter most.
A professional daydreamer, Lorenz Font discovered her love of writing after reading a celebrated novel that inspired one idea after another. Since being published in 2013, she has been conspiring, butting heads, and enjoying her spare time with vampires, angels, samurais, and other creatures she has created in her head.
Her perfect day consists of writing and lounging on her garage couch (a.k.a. the office) with a glass of her favorite cabernet while listening to her ever-growing music collection. She finds writing urban fantasy exhilarating and places an intense focus on angst and the redemption of flawed characters. Her fascination with romantic twists is a mainstay in all her stories.
Lorenz lives in Southern California with her supportive family and three demanding dogs.
In this book there are beautiful, happy, infuriating, and heartbreaking moments. Ascension is the best book in this series, but it is also the most devastating. I went into this story thinking it was going to be a certain way, and to an extent it was, but that still didn't prepare me for everything. I was pleasantly surprised and heart-wrenchingly stunned.
I felt everything emotion when I was reading. I laughed and smiled, cried and denied, I felt angry and helpless, and felt so incredibly happy and then so utterly sad. I loved and hated the characters deeply. I also felt torn and wanted to believe that one of the characters changed and would be accepted.
Ascension tore my heart out, punched me in the gut, and just left me feeling raw. It was really looking like my favorite and then something happened (I just can't tell you) that made me desperate to finish the story so I could see that it wasn't really true. It could be my favorite, but it just feels wrong like it felt wrong to laugh and smile after The Event occurred. I still want to read the next book and I'm hoping that this part isn't over yet.
Ascension is a standalone told from multiple points of view. It does not end with a HEA and I honestly don't know if it ever will. ~ Paige, 4.5 stars
I started this book feeling the same excitement I had when I finished Tormented. And true to form, the author picked up where she left off. She began with a bang and didn't let off until the end. This installment tugged at my heart, pulled at my heartstrings until I could no longer breathe. I won't give spoiler but I have to warn you, have enough tissues handy.
I'm anxiously awaiting the next book. This is a must-read.
This review is for the third book in the Gates Legacy series, Ascension and boy what a twisting ride it is! I'm primarily a lover of romance and paranormal is my favourite genre so when I first saw this series I was totally interested but now I'm in awe. Why? Well yes each book features a different couple coming together but it's the world buildng and journey that these characters take that makes this series for this reader an amazing read. As this story begins those vampires who fight with Harrow Gates for freedom from the tyrannical reign of Goran are left struggling to regroup in the aftermath of a viscous attack. Rohnert has left the freedom fighters as he is at a crossroads in his life but his friends have not given up on him. Shelley had one night of passion with the honourable Rohnert and unknown to him is left carrying his child. As Goran steps up his efforts to eradicate all those who oppose him Rohnert has much to learn about his past and indeed his future. Prophecies are coming true and Rohnert is not as alone in the world as he previously believed but when it comes to vampires there's always blood involved and this time rivers of blood and tears will flow! Ms Font with this addition has delivered a credible vampire story that is startling and unique but not simply something that I can categorise as just a romance. Fast paced, action packed and full of surprises and yet with an emotional depth that left this reader reeling. I had no idea of the direction the author would take and frankly I have been left bereft as the storyline of this book with it's plot twists and ultimate outcome was shocking. If you are a fan of this series then be prepared for heartache and yet I cannot help but wonder just what the author has up her sleeve for the next book. It's clear that certain characters are about to step up to the plate but I'm learning quickly that Ms Font is unafraid to mess with both her characters and indeed her readers minds! Please read these books in order to get the most out of them. This series is imaginative , sexy and building up to be addictive. This author is clearly unafraid to take risks and with this book forges her characters ahead to a shocking conclusion . This is not run of the mill vampire fiction but a well thought out ride through every emotion the human psyche is capable of and I can't wait to find out what torments the author has instore for us next!
Ascension is the third book of the Gates Legacy series. After reading two first books in this series I had really high expectations; and I must say all of them were fullfilled and more!
The main focus in this book is on Rohnert; who is a pure-blooded vampire and Dr. Shelly Anderson. After one night together, Rohnert feels compelled to deny all the feelings he has for her, for he thinks he musn't let her get too close to him, and soon after that he disappears from her life.
After facing those harsh words from him, Shelly tries her best to forget him, which seems to be impossible when she finds out that there were consequential results from their night of passion. Now heavely pregnant she has to find how her being human and Rohnert being vampire will affect her unborn child. Same time as she is facing these problems, Rohnert comes to his senses and comes back for her, but how can he gain Shelly's trust back, and convinse her that he really cares her? The Tack Enterprises Harrow leading them are still trying to find the cure that would heal all infected vampires and trying to help them showing better way to live, while at the same time they are trying to stay hidden from Goran's evil eye.
Ascension grows each character even more that in Tormented, making me want to know EVERYTHING from every single character, their reasons what they do what they do to their thoughts and feelings towards each other.
Of course, What would be Lorenz's story without tearsm laughter and anger? Because she has amazing way to bring them all from me with her way of words.
Lorenz has made me so addicted to her vampires that I can't wait to see what will happen next in the Gates Legacy, because once again I hunger for more!
It is hard to describe how I felt when reading this book. After coming off the high and sheer shock of the previous two, I was unsure what to think. After laughing and crying, and wanting to kill the author, I couldn't wait to read this third installment of The Gates Legacy to see what the heck happened with Tack Enterprises and the gang that survived books one and two!
In all honesty, I loved this book the most of the three so far. I absolutely fell in love with Rohnert and his suffer in silence attitude while trying to keep the vampire race together. I rooted for him and his lady love and wanted nothing more than a happily ever after for him, but once again...Ms. Font took me to the woodshed and beat me silly after fully engaging my heart and soul with her characters lives.
Book three if full of action, romance and funny banter that will keep you engaged and turning the page faster and faster to get to the next scene to find out what is going to happen. I can't wait for book four! Though, I must say, I am as equally horrified as I am excited to find out where the author takes us in the next book! Her writing sucks you in and keeps you entranced. Well done, Ms. Font! Cheers and an enthusiastic 5 Stars for this newest installment of The Gates Legacy. Be ready to fall in love, be on the edge of your seat during the action and shocked enough to want to hunt down the author and throttle her a few times!
After reading the first book in the Gates Legacy Hunted I became attached to Harrow and Jordan. Then I read the second book in the series and I became attached to Tor and Alison while falling further in love with Harrow and Jordan. Now I have finished the third installment and I can say I have grown attached to Rohnert and Shelly. When I first began this series, the multiple points of view confused me and I will confess I was not a fan, but now I can say I love that Lorenz Font has done this. As a reader I am able to still see the world through the eyes of all my beloved characters even though the story isn’t truly based on them. Ascension not only has the characters that we have grown to love, but we are introduced to so many more. We were also introduced into the vampire culture a little more; like the mating rituals and how the vampire council works. This novel was filled with all the drama the first two had and of course it had the same devastation the previous installments had. I have to say Lorenz Font has surprised me with each story, and I have not seen some of the plot coming, and I will admit I had some tears. For all those romance lovers, there were defiantly some sexy scenes between Rohnert and Shelly and of course so much love with all the pairs (Harrow/Jordan and Tor/Allison). There were also some sneak peeks of future pairs that I am very excited to see more of. I cannot wait to see where Lorenz Font takes this vampire/human family next!!
Another fantastic read following our favorite group of vampires from Pritchard Tack enterprises. This one finally gets around to Rohnert and his story, and the birth of his and Shelly's child. I adore Rohnert and several things finally click into place for him, allowing him to finally realize he has to step up or allow Goran to continue his corrupt rule. There is action and love, corruption and secrets to be revealed. I cant wait for the next book to see what will happen next.
4.5 Stars I have adored these books from the very start, and once again, this third offering from Ms Font doesn't fail to please. We pick right back up with our motley crew of vamps and humans as they do battle against the crazy Goran and his misguided attempts to control absolutely everything (he's a tad on the barmy side, but he's a good character to read so we'll let it slide a little longer).
As always, there was a superb continuation from the second book in the series. As someone who knew what was going on, it was excellent to dive straight back into the action, although I have to admit, I needed to check oddments as my brain hadn't retained all the facts it needed. As a new reader, you'd need to go right back to the start, but given how amazing they are, you shouldn't mind it that much.
Unlike the other books, I did find Ascension to be a little slower starting, but if you should encounter the same issue, please, for the love of everything, do not stop reading! Because my oh my! Once that snowball reaches the top of the hill, it powers down with a force that is unbelievably intoxicating. The last 10% in particular was phenomenal writing and it was quite impossible to put it down. I was left with a real sense of whiplash, just as things appeared to have settled down, and it all went to hell in a fast car all over again! Be warned though, you will definitely need some tissues, that's all I'm saying!
The characters, as you would expect from Font, are all absolutely excellent. The old cast are fabulous (but we already knew that!) and the new additions blend in effortlessly and are a pleasure to read. With all that's going on, it would be easy to get lost and start wondering who's who, but Font is very good at making sure that, despite the multiple points of view she writes from, the reader always knows exactly what they need to know about the characters and the action - but you'll never know more than you need to, it's a supreme balancing act that is brilliant to read. As always, I'm a huge fan of the multiple POVs and I love being able to get inside all the characters heads, without getting lost along the way.
And so, to wrap it up. This is yet another excellent read from Font that I can highly recommend to all who enjoy action, excellent characters, brilliant vampire lore and that extra little twist of something special. I've honestly never read a series quite like this, but I am already on tenterhooks waiting for the next part of the Gates Legacy to find out where else this brilliant story can now go. Seriously though, if you haven't already tried this series, buckle up and block out your schedule for a week or so and get where the action is, because this series is going from strength to strength.

Ascension, The Gates Legacy Book 3, Lorenz Font Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews Genre: Paranormal, Romance I struggled with this series to begin, but soon came to love the characters and the plots. It’s become far easier to follow now I’ve got a clear hook on who is who and how they fit into the story, and I think its that two strands part, with the Tack/Harrow group on one side and Goran and Co on the other with independent vampires, and humans in the middle that had me confused. Now its less blurred, the battle lines have been drawn and I’m gripped by the story. Everyone likes to think good prevails and yet Goran has been in power for decades...centuries even I think, so how does that work? His ego grows exponentially with each cold blooded murder he plans, and it seems no one or nothing can stop his power crazed frenzy. The battles between him and Harrow’s group so far have caused great losses on both sides, and the latest sees Harrow once again reforming what’s left of the group, and seeking yet another new sanctuary for them. Thankfully Tack left them in a very strong financial position and money always smooths the way past most problems like that. Rohnert has been there from the start, a quiet, enigmatic vampire, he’s a warrior and a pureblood. He left Harrow and the group in the last book, after giving in to his feelings for human nurse Shelley, as he felt he’d bring her into danger and she deserved better. Something happens though that brings him back into her life to try to keep her out of danger. I’ve always had a soft spot for Rohnert – one of the few pure blood originals left, he’s the opposite of everything Goran stands for, selfless, moral and understanding and on the side of Right not Might. He’s let tradition and timing stop him from doing anything about Goran thus far, plus of course he doesn’t want to be the one to take his place as leader, that’s not his ambition, but now it may be time to challenge the old ways and make a stand. He can’t do it alone, and though Harrow has a solid, well trained crew they’re few in number compared to the resources Goran has. Shelley, she’s quite abrasive, no nonsense, and one of those who’ll always do what’s right at whatever cost to herself. We see an example of it here where she dives into danger to save two of the group, despite being safe where she was. I like her no nonsense attitude, and her independence, and in fact she and Rohnert would match well together if he’d just stop being a martyr about it! He needs someone strong, not afraid to challenge him and stand up for herself, not some simpering, helpless female. Can he pull himself together though – and will Shelley let him after he rejected her so callously? Well, all that’s part of the story along with a huge surprise for Harrows group, more battles and losses and regrouping. I wonder just how Harrow manages to keep going sometimes, when they seem to take hit after hit after hit but he does, with fortitude and cheer. We meet more of the Elders, and both the vampire Shaman and Seer too in this book. They were interesting – how much is fate v free will, how much is prophecy and how much do they have to do with shaping it? I can’t help wondering if they shape events to fit, or whether they watch and just step in to help sometimes.... Lorenz isn’t afraid to kill off key characters, as we saw when Pritchard died and there’s another great loss in this book....that was so, so sad but ever the optimist and this being fantasy where anything can happen, I'm hoping the Shaman can pull something out of a hat somehow I hate losing loved characters. Once again its a great read, my favourite so far though whether that’s because the story is any better, or whether I now just understand it better is debateable!! Its why I like to re read series, I find I pick up more from second and subsequent reads that I missed first time round. Stars: Its a great read, just short of the five, a four and a half from me. I’m really needing book four now though! ARC supplied by Netgalley and publishers
Before you even think about cracking open Ascension, you’ll want to make sure you’ve read Hunted and Tormented, the first two books in the series, so that you’ll have an idea what is going on in the world of The Gates Legacy. There is a lot happening to be sure … hidden agendas, characters coming out of the woodwork, and general mayhem and madness ensue with each installment. And, as many should have learned by this third book, Ms. Font is not afraid to deal that killing blow.
From the first page, you know you’re in for another crazy ride. Where Hunted focused on Harrow Gates and Jordan, and Tormented let us get to know Tor and Allison, Ascension’s main man is the enigmatic and hard-as-steel Rohnert. We got a glimpse of his impenetrable wall being breached by the feisty Dr. Shelly in Tormented, and that is going to end up playing havoc on this purebred vampire’s carefully constructed life in Ascension. To the betterment of not only him, but the entire vampire council.
Team Tack is regrouping after the devastation they faced at the end of book two, and let me tell you, those that survived, are pissed. Little by little, the disbanded group of humans and vampires begin finding each other, and we get to find out what befell them in the aftermath. Meanwhile, we’ll also discover that not everyone died in the battle. Some were spared~if you can call torture the likes of which would’ve made medieval dungeon masters cackle with glee, being spared… at least they walked away, right?
Goran is still set on becoming the ultimate ruler, however; even if it costs him his own flesh and blood. But fate just may have other plans for our vengeful sire. I have to be honest here: even though Goran is the ultimate antagonist, there’s something about this man that makes my heart race whenever I’m reading from his point of view. He’s quick, sharp, and ruthless. Just when you think maybe, just maybe, he’s going to do something nice, think again.
I can’t say enough about how fascinating this series is. Action-packed, great dialogue, and no shortage of hot romance, The Gates Legacy has it all. You’ll want to set aside time to read, as Ms. Font’s style involves multiple points of view so you’ll need to have your wits about you to keep up. She also has a knack for taking you right up to the edge of one point of view, and then jumping to another part of the story so that you have to keep turning those pages to see how they’re all going to converge and be resolved.
Ascension is an entertaining, heart-racing read, and far from your cliche vampire tale. Go ahead, take a chance, I’m fairly confident you won’t be disappointed.
*I was provided with an ARC by the author and TWCS Publishing House in exchange for an honest review.*
just amazingly intense...amazing, Its center Prophecy of Gastarius. Ms Font grabs you and keeps you immersed in the world she creates so lovingly. This book is another great addition to a amazing series. You will be on a emotional roller-coaster trying to keep up with the characters and their lives. Just when you think you have it down with whats going to happen, it shifts.. The passion, the betrayal the lasting effects... the deaths.
The pure blood vampire Rohnert and Dr. Shelly... It may be love at first sight but Rohnert knows he wont be around long and tamps down on the emerging feelings he has for the sexy Dr. Leaving Shelly to pick up the pieces and try to move on and forget about the mouth watering sexy vampire. You cant help but feel the heat from the couples Rohnert/Shelly, Tor/Allison and always Harlow/Jordan def some serious heat and grind going on.
Goran’s evil is still around lurking and Harlow is still steadfast about about guiding and showing the others that there is another type of life to lead, that they dont have to be about raising chaos and our harming others. Tack Enterprises is still diligently working to find a cure. Again a wonderful storyline with amazing characters, stories within a story. Busy yet easy to follow and will keep you intrigued and your thumb moving the pages. I recommend the series as well as the books... Read in Order.. *winks*

Goran's tyranny has brought a great darkness upon the vampire race. His greed, lust of power, control and self glorification has endangered the existence of the pure blood vampires as well as all their traditions. A heavy brooding entity of death sprawls across the lives of both vampires and humans alike. However, there is a secret that is the key to the door of light and redemption.
The characters, the dialogue, the events, the fast pace and the roller coaster emotions hold the reader captive in a world one never wants to leave. The bombshell toward the end was so REAL!!! It was difficult to read the words through streaming tears. Emotions of a crushing anger, a taste of revenge, utter desolation....complete heartbreak and loss. Only a gifted writer can put words together in a way to pull out deep emotions in what is ultimately a fictional story. I was given an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. Five Stars!
It's not often that I get upset with an author, but it happened with this book. No, I didn't plot her death or anything, but the direction this story took completely rocked my world. I don't do spoilers, so I will only say that I messaged the author and asked her how she could do that to me. We're back in New York with Rohnert, Harrow, Tor, Cyrus, and the gang. I've missed these characters so much. The compound was under attack at the end of Tormented and that's where we begin this book. Goran continues to destroy the race and Rohnert is trying to find a way to stop him. There is a lot of action and suspense in this book as well as plenty of sexy times. This series has absolutely sucked me in and I can't get enough. I hope book 4 is out soon! 5 out of 5!
I was honored to beta read for Lorenz on Ascension and the first word that comes to mind when I try to describe this book is breath taking. The intensity and action that you have come to love in the first two books only gets bigger and better in Ascension. We finally see what happens to Shelly and Rohnert and if their future will even have a chance to survive. Lorenz gives us the answers we have been dying for regarding the disease that is invading the vampire community while new characters are introduced to the reader.
Goran has been a huge thorn in the side of the Gates people from book one and we see what his future holds for him. Will the devastation that he created finally be over for the council and Harrow and crew or is it just beginning a new level of destruction that no one will survive? All of those questions will be answered in Ascension and trust me it is very difficult for me to not continue on talking about the events.
Once again Lorenz has proven why this trilogy needs to be a motion picture because that is how it plays out in my mind as I read. Her use of description and vivid images makes the words dance to life in your mind and you begin to believe you can smell what they smell and feel the touch of each member on your body and soul. She has the talent to immerse you as the reader into the world of sexy vampires and deprived souls that’s only goal in life is to destroy that which they don’t understand. With each act of love and goodness you experience the betrayal and darkness of evil.
Be prepared to have your heart ripped out of your chest and the tissues available because nothing Lorenz writes comes without gritty raw emotions attached. This is the beauty in her writing when you lose track of reality because you are so absorbed in the story she is telling. The loyalty of Harrow’s crew is still intact and tested to limits they weren’t even sure existed. Trying to stay ahead of the darkness can be a cruel job but what happens when that darkness begins to grow in the soul of someone you love? Is there truly a level of sorrow that love can no longer touch and heal? You will find out in this book.
Lorenz Font is a story telling genius, she can take a fictional story and make it become real. Her need for intensity and drama is evident in everything she touches and she strives to give you an epic ride in her books that you will not soon forget. I highly recommend the Gates Legacy to everyone, even the readers who are not into vampires such as myself. She brings the human qualities and angst into the world of vampires and creates a form of magic that can’t be duplicated.
Beautifully written! Lorenz Font never disappoints! She is a fresh new voice in Paranormal romance. She tells her story with a lively zest that transports a reader to the intriguing and interesting tales of another dimension, you'll never be sure what's going to happen next. Ascension, Gates Legacy book 3, is a mesmerizing Paranormal story overflowing with heartfelt emotions and dramatically life altering incidents. The action picks up in page one and never lets up. The fast-paced thriller keeps her well developed characters moving... The story is clever and tightly plotted. It is a riveting paranormal read that will leave you hooked. The writing is sharp and witty . Lorenz Font Legacy Series will continue to garner fans with this exciting installment, that the reader will look toward the next book. It is a must read!
Whilst not my favourite of the 3 books, it was still absolutely superb. Unfortunately work got in the way otherwise I think I would have read it in a matter of hours. The story progresses well from the previous book as do the characters. I think my only gripe is that in some parts it seemed slightly too simplistic, I appreciate it is a modern day book but it also belongs in the supernatural and current terms and phrases just seem out of place in this book. However, that is just my personal opinion and doesn't detract from the story at all. I would just prefer the language to be slightly less simplistic.Cannot wait for the next book to be published. It is definitely on my to read list already.
This series must be read in order. The first book is Hunted. The second book is Tormented. This is the third book.
Rohnert really finds himself in this book. He goes from being purposeless to having the fate of both races on his shoulders. Will he be able to save the lives of all those he loves while eraddicating the enemy? How will they all survive Goran's mad blood lust? What will the world even look like when the dust settles?
This book was a thrill a minute filled with action, adventure, mystery ,romance and intrigue! I was never bored and am really glad the series isn't over! I can't wait to read the next installment :) ( I hope its Isidora & Cyrus hehe) Font writes a very believable supernatural world that could totally be hidden in ours! This is a real gem of a series!
***This series is suitable for adult readers who like supernatural characters who are larger than life in their urban fantasy romantic suspenseful adventures!
I don't believe I rated the first two books in the series very well. I'm glad to say that I can't say enough positive things about book 3! The writing was much improved (although the authors awkwardness with sex scenes is till evident, but improving) and the story was well conceived. I literally cried during the reading of this book, and I say this as a testament to the writing being able to pull such emotions from me. The characters were much more relatable and believable, instead of always angry as in the previous books. Attention to environment portrayals and emotion is what made this book what it is.
