This is the second set of books that I have read in the series by Linda Bridey. It contains three separate stories about women who choose to become mail order brides to men in the city of Dawson. The second book in this compilation is clearly dated as being set in 1881. I enjoyed the stories but had to set aside my historical knowledge to do so. In one book they referenced molotov cocktails which was a term that didn't really come into use until much later. In another a pregnant woman cuts back on alcohol as it is bad for her developing child - again something they would not have known at the time, I did enjoy the stories though. The characters were well-developed and the stories flowed easily from one to the next. I liked the characters and felt there was respect shown for first nation characters too. After reading this I went out and bought the compilation of the first 3 books in the series too.
Frankly, I’d have given this 5 stars if I weren’t a stickler for historical accuracy. Zippers weren’t invented till 1890, and not used for women’s clothing till the ‘30’s. Such anachronisms detract from my ‘willing suspension of disbelief.’ The characters were all engaging, and the growing town of Dawson interesting. If you can overlook the slight time slip, enjoy. (After all, Shakespeare had a clock striking the hour in Ancient Rome, in the play “Julius Caesar.”)
Westward Dreams Being a mail order bride answering mail from someone you don’t know is exciting but at the same time you never know if they are honest or someone you can trust. They pull you in with words, promise giving you someone you feel you know that is until you come face to face to find everything you have been told is a lie. Not much has changed over the years with internet but back long ago you didn’t have someone you could call to give a helping hand. Hannah finds out just how hard that is when she come face to face with the man she thought she would build a life with to find nothing he has said is true. Now in a land where she knows no one she turns to the sheriff for help, once she gets settled the first person she runs into is Owl the first Indian she has ever seen. Both are shocked with the way they feel but as they get closer and their feeling grow turmoil takes over with ill feelings from the man she came to marry and the town. There is danger, excitement, passion but you laugh and smile as well as frown with life is left in the towns hands.
Westward Holiday Losing everything as you know it is hard but when you lose your reputation with it is the pits, when one loses all that and has to get a job when you have never done a day’s work well that is just downright mean when your father puts his self before the needs of his family. Rebecca has lost it all, her friends turn her back on her and she now cannot find a husband. Deciding to start over she becomes a mail order bride. The saloon owner wants a wife places an ad but isn’t too excited by the women who want to take him on. When he reads Rebecca answer he just as to meet her. Rebecca didn’t know what to think when she first saw the town, the Watering Hole well let’s just say it isn’t up to what she is use to.
This is a fun, cute read that brought me hours of entertainment and joy. I laughed and at times could really feel the characters pain. It is a clean read but filled with passion, that gets a little hot when people don’t want to say good night. Lots of fun teasing and the best part is we get to visit with old characters that I truly love. Rebecca maybe from good stock, high class but once she lets loose she is a delightful woman. Not everything is coming up roses, there are twists and turns that are exciting, a little painful and a little surprising.
Westward Sunrise
This was cute and a fun read. It was nice to see Elliot find a lady and Abbey is a lovely surprise. I enjoyed the twists and turns along with a little heartbreak. Abbey and Elliot are perfect for each other but there is someone who thinks she would look better on his arm. Something happens that could just put Ms. Abbey on his arm leaving Elliot all alone again. I liked the characters and loved the plot that are a few unknowns and maybe a little mystery.
The narrator does a wonderful job delivering true emotions to the story, you always know who is talking and just what that are feeling. There are no repeating of words, no background noise just a truly enjoyable listen that pulls you in. His normal voice is very pleasant as well as his character voices, his voice is easy to listen to and gave me many hours of enjoyment. He made me feel the pain and sorrow each character is going through as well as the excitement and danger that comes with this story. With his narration he made me understand why some people act the way they do and that not everything is as it seems. For me he bought this story to life making it easy to picture each scene as it was happening. His performance was top of the line pulling me in giving me a listen I couldn’t put down. If you haven’t listened to any of his audios you don’t know what you are missing.
I received this book free from one of the book sites. I do not remember which one! This is my honest review. - on historical accuracy. Zippers were not used in clothing at the time of these books. A gentleman invented a zipper closure, but never patented it. Zippers were not common in clothing until the 1900's. - on cleanliness. More swearing than I thought would be acceptable. obviously, men in the west swore, but other authors have managed to write clean and sweet romances without swearing. Having the women swear turned me off. Sex before marriage may have happened, and I am sure that it did, but I was not impressed. Woman drinking was not an acceptable practice, unless it was wine. The women in this series seem to have no problem slugging a few back and being drunk. The characters in these books are not what I expected at all. If you want sweet and clean romances that are also historically accurate, I would suggest other authors. Why did I read through? Because other characters peaked my interest and I wanted to see what would happen to them. The best book was #7. It was better than the rest.
Wow! Three fantastic stories. First I will say if you have read any other books from this set, you won’t be disappointed. The store goes through and you still touch base with past characters. Each of these books gives a slight insight of the next books. So your drawn into more.
I won’t go into dealing each story because it would take entirely too long and I’m one who believes getting to the points.
Each book has mild petting, some of the couples do get deeply involved with each other, but you don’t read about the deeds they do. Which is wonderful for me. In the stories you are pulling for the couple’s to hurry up and get married, but each one runs into trouble and then you feel slightly disappointed because you just know they belong together. In this set all couples do seem to sort out the difficulties. But I won’t tell you more.
You always meet new people in the books and hope that this town succeeds only because you gro to love the characters in each book. Do yourself a favour and grab these before they are all gone!
I am very impressed with the quality of Linda Bridey’s variety of characters in her books. Even though I have lost sleep and not taken care of my household and pet responsibilities it has been worth it. I am sure those of you that get involved with the continuation of the next phase of development and new characters will enjoy this as much as I have! I am ready for the next story!
3 brides-to-be move to Dawson Montana to meet their future husbands and as previous stories have gone there are moments of great strife, moments of great joy and every emotion in between.
I particularly enjoyed Hannah and Owl's story but was peeved when came to certain points in Jake and Rebeccas and Abby and Elliot's or would have scored the box set higher.
Three new possible brides arrives but there are more would be husband's.
Three new stories that will keep you reading, as they each have different circumstances and problems to solve before they reach their happiness. I hope that you will enjoy them as much as I have. Happy Reading!
This series just keeps getting better and better as they deal with social issues of the times , moral and racial dramas too. The characters feel like family and friends!
I came back to review and rate. The characters are so very enjoyable and the plots and storytelling are all really good. I really like how the characters remain as part of the new stories written. You really need to start at the begining.
These books begin where the last set ends. The characters are interesting, the action mild, the love abundant, and a clean read. I love Joe. I recommend reading books in order.
I've read these stories in order 1-9 and I've enjoyed them immensely, these stories carry from of the families in the township of Dawson Montana, this is undoubtedly the best in a series and I'm looking forward to reading 10-11-12!

Now this is great historical western mail order bride series. These characters are so real, I felt like I was there. The stories were priceless, I never wanted them to end.
I absolutely love these books. The characters are so much fun, and I've become invested in them throughout the series. I love how you see the town growing with each book, and I love seeing the friendships and romances develop between the characters. Its also interesting to see the friendships, as well as the tensions, between the townies and the Lakota Indians. I never thought I would be the person reading "Mail Order Bride" books, but I am hooked on this series, and I highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys westerns, romance, or just likes to laugh, because there is always quite a bit of humor scattered throughout the books. I listened to the Audible audio version of these books narrated by J. Scott Bennet. I love his narrations, and this one was no exception. He is excellent at giving each character a unique voice, and I really believe he adds to the overall experience. I can't say enough good things about him.
