Miss Myra Astley has always known her future would include a grand love match. When she falls in love with the charming Viscount Southwood, she is certain nothing can intervene to destroy her happiness. But fate, it seems, has other plans. After a chance encounter with a fortune teller, Myra finds her hand shackled to Southwood’s infuriatingly arrogant brother, Daniel.
With every attempt to remove the shackles thwarted, there is only one marriage. Forced into an unwanted union, Myra is determined to loathe her new husband, but as the days pass, she begins to see that beneath Daniel’s sharp tongue lies a man of honor, intelligence, and unexpected wit.
As passion sparks and prejudices crumble, Myra must will she cling to the life she thought she wanted, or accept the man who is slowly stealing her heart?
A tale of marriage of convenience mixed with fate’s mischievous hand, Entwined by Error is a captivating Regency romance filled with wit, intrigue, and undeniable closed-door passion.

The female lead - and her sister(s) - are known as the Madcaps of Mayfair. They manage to comically create very awkward situations in society. I remember fire being involved with one instance.
I love the titles. "The Waltz that Changed Everything" is the first one. I like getting a little hint. I also find it a bit helpful when looking for where I left off when listening to an audiobook on YouTube.
A hero and heroine that I can appreciate.
Audiobook on YouTube narrated by the wonderful Grace Noble!
I'm finding that I consistently like Angela E. Johnson's historical romances.
Entwined by Error, Book 1 in the Madcaps of Mayfair series by Angela E. Johnson, is an absolute gem. Miss Myra Astley, a young, naive lady with a heart full of romantic ideals, falls head over heels for the charming Viscount Southwood. He says all the right things, professes undying love, and convinces her that she’s destined to be his wife. Unfortunately, Southwood’s true love is gambling, and Myra’s dowry is his only salvation—not exactly the fairytale she envisioned.
But fate, with its impeccable sense of humor, has other plans. In a twist of events straight out of a Regency rom-com, Myra finds herself literally shackled—yes, chained—to Southwood’s younger brother, Daniel. Unable to remove the shackles, they are forced into marriage. Talk about "ball and chain" becoming a little too literal.
Now, let’s talk about Daniel. Honorable, responsible, trustworthy—basically, the kind of gentleman who makes fictional crushes dangerously real. His patience and devotion to Myra had me swooning more than once. The slow unraveling of their relationship is beautifully done. Watching Myra shift from avoiding Daniel to seeking his company was delightful, and after an absolutely hilarious goose-related incident (yes, a goose), the stage is set for them to finally admit their feelings.
Myra’s wit, her pure heart, and her journey from innocence to self-assurance were captivating. Their reluctant, slow-burn romance felt authentic, packed with just the right amount of tension and tenderness. Neither wanted to be the first to confess their feelings, which made their eventual admission all the more satisfying.
The family dynamics added depth and warmth. Daniel might be the younger brother, but he’s clearly the mature one, while Southwood… let’s just say he’s an ongoing project. Despite his foolishness, I’m oddly curious to see if he can redeem himself. Maybe in a future book? Fingers crossed.
Special mention to their mother, who’s the unsung heroine of the story. She knows her children inside out and pulls just the right strings to guide them toward happiness. It’s refreshing to see a supportive, loving parent in a genre that often leans heavily on absent or oblivious guardians.
In conclusion, Entwined by Error had me laughing, swooning, and cheering for Myra and Daniel. It’s packed with wit, heart, and just enough Regency-era shenanigans to keep things delightfully entertaining. If you enjoy slow-burn romance with a dash of humor (and an unexpected goose cameo), this book is for you. Bravo, Angela E. Johnson—you’ve got a new fan.

Totally 5 stars! I laughed, I smiled, and I fell in love with both characters. Bravo, Angela, for writing a book filled with wit, humor, heartwarming family relationships, transformation, and a slow-burn romance that kept me turning the pages to see how it would end.
Myra Astley falls in love with Lord Southwood, believing he’s the perfect gentleman who will make her dreams come true. But she doesn’t know he’s an unrepentant gambler who only wants to marry her for her dowry. Luckily for her (though she doesn’t see it that way at first), she meets Daniel, Southwood’s younger brother—and ends up shackled in chains with him against her will. She marries him to survive and, in time, to free herself from the shackles.
At first, I kept shaking my head, wondering how on earth the shackles situation could happen. But later, I understood why it had to be that way—otherwise, these two never would have married.
I really liked Daniel: responsible, steady, always covering for his elder brother’s mistakes. The way he took everything in stride and quietly fixed issues was so masculine and endearing. And of course, Myra—with her wit, innocence, and refreshing sense of humor. Their slow-burn romance had me rooting for them, watching them nervously but steadily find their way to each other.
Daniel’s mother was also a standout. I loved her sharpness, her ingenuity, and above all her fierce love for her sons. She’s the kind of mother anyone would want in their corner.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Regency romance—especially slow-burn love stories that make you want to curl up in your reading nook with a cup of Earl Grey tea, eyes wide open at night, eager to see how it all ends.

Angela Johnson’s latest novel is a delight to read. It has some major twists, turns, and surprises that make it something you will stay up late reading. The story centers around Myra Astley, a lovely young woman with a huge dowry. When Lord Southwood shows interest in her, she believes it is for love. Southwood’s brother, Daniel Northcott, is instructed by his mother to attempt to protect Myra from the Lord, who has a gambling problem.
Such is the setup, and the story moves along in a fairly typical fashion for Regency romances until a hilarious and shocking event occurs when the reader least expects it, causing the plot to take a severe right turn. Truly fun and creative writing. I can’t say more or I would give away the surprise. There is plenty of romantic tension and swoony-ness, as well as lovely estates, balls, and shimmering gowns. It is a fun book to read! Well done, Angela!

I really enjoyed Entwined by Error by Angela E. Johnson! The story follows Myra and Daniel whose lives become unexpectedly connected after a single mistake changes everything. I loved how their relationship developed through moments of tension, vulnerability, and growth. The emotional depth kept me invested, and the pacing made it hard to put down. I found myself laughing throughout this book.
The characters felt relatable, and I appreciated how the author explored themes of trust, forgiveness, and second chances without making the story feel predictable. If you enjoy heartfelt contemporary romance with realistic conflict, this one is definitely worth picking up.
I was given an advanced copy of this book for free and I’m leaving this honest review.
This was an automatic must read after Angela's last series being one of my all time favourites. It is such a well written, witty, lovely regency story. The story has a ridiculous mishap throwing 2 characters together and I loved every moment of it. Look forward to the next book in the series!
Miss Myra Astley has fallen for a Viscount the Earls oldest son. She and her four sisters have a huge duaty of over 80,000 pounds! Myra is a romantic soul that thinks first and asks questions later! She considers herself savvy against Fortune Hunters but that is not the case! Daniel Northcott is immediately infatuated with Myra but knows that he doesn’t stand a chance as she in enamored with his brother Viscount Southwood! The more Daniel and even his mother tried to educate Myra she is headstrong and beautiful! But the Countess has a plan and she executes it so well no one is the wiser including Daniel! Well the mishap sees Daniel entwined with Myra and they have to wed now! Myra doesn’t realize for a long time what a very lucky girl she is to have escaped the Viscount horrible addictions! Myra had her wise aunt that lived near by to assist her to make her marriage worse and put aside her infatuation! Myra quickly realizes when strangers come to call her and Daniels home she had very lucky escape! But Daniel thinks she’s in love with his brother and Myra realizes she will have to convince him otherwise! I hate that Myra was so ignorant of what happens in the bedroom after marriage! Definitely an interesting start to a series! Myra has 4 more sisters so let the games continue! I received an ARC copy for my unbiased review!
Myra Astley falls for Lord Southwood and looks forward to proposal. She doesn’t realize he only want her for her dowry (typical wastrel). Southwood’s mother invites the Astley family to their estate so that the couple can become better acquainted. She recruits her younger son Daniel to help dissuade Myra from marrying Southwood, knowing the scoundrel is just using her. When Southwood abandons the party, he asks his younger brother to escort Myra while he is gone. A trip to town and the bazaar seems innocent enough, until they visit the fortune teller. Here is where Fate steps in, fate and a set of shackles missing a key, a hurried wedding (the chaos leading up to it is laugh-out-loud funny), and a slow-burn romance. The characters in this story are interesting. Myra is the first of several Astley sisters ready to come out in society. She is bright and witty. Daniel is the spare. He is calm and settled, smart, and industrious. Daniel’s mother is smart, full of love for her family, and a bit manipulative when necessary. There are a few twists and surprises along the way in this delightful and engaging story. I received an ARC of this book via BookSirens and voluntarily reviewed it.
This is the first book in the Madcaps of Mayfair series and is a delightful story.
I would say Myra is a tad clumsy and has a couple of mishaps that are pretty funny. She's also convinced herself that she is in love with Lord Southwood - who isn't exactly what he appears to be, but ultimately finds herself in a marriage of convenience with his brother, Daniel Northcutt.
This is a fun read that provides some laugh out loud moments. I loved how the relationship between Myra and Daniel progresses. While Daniel is drawn to Myra, they both start out exchanging barbs. But once they are tucked away in their home after their quick marriage, that is when Myra's eyes are open to who the better brother really is and feelings start to be had. Both are slow to act on them, but once they allow the walls to come down we get some pretty tender moments.
As the series progresses, I wonder if we will get more of Lord Southwood's story. I'm excited for the rest of the series to be released.
Quotes: "Assumptions have a way of turning situations into something they are not meant to be."
"If you could go back to that day...would you dare enter the fortune teller's tent again? A thousand and one times, and then once more, my love."
Entwined in Error is the first book in Angela E. Johnson’s new Madcaps of Mayfair, and it is a delight. Myra Astley is a charming but quirky young woman who’s madly in love with Thomas, Viscount Southwood. Thomas, Viscount Southwood wants to marry her because he’s madly in love…with her dowry. His honorable but incredibly arrogant younger brother, Daniel, is against the marriage. It’s not that he’s enamored with Miss Astley, he just hates the idea of his brother destroying a young woman’s life for money.
When his brother talks Daniel into taking Myra to a fete, they visit a fortune teller. That’s when things go horribly wrong. The two end up shackled together with no escape. Seeing as how they’ll have to spend the night together, the two have to marry to save their reputations.
Entwined in Error is a sweet story with loveable leading characters, a fun and engaging plot and a truly swoon-worthy romance. I absolutely loved this book, and I can’t wait to read the next installment in the series. I received an advance review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review.
I love a delicious Regency romp! This story made me laugh, gasp, and even get a little grouchy. Myra wants to make a titled love match, but a meddling mama knows that her oldest son is no good for her and devises an absolutely crazy plan to tie Myra to her worthier, younger son instead.
I loved the fireworks between Myra and Daniel, even if they weren't always good ones. There are so many secrets and misunderstandings, and eventually feelings, that lie between them and any chance of making a forced marriage work. More meddling and some well-timed advice got them on track just in time for more interference. I wanted to strangle Lord Southwood! I loved the slow burn and how the relationship changed between Myra and Daniel, especially after the goose incident. It was so sweet and funny!
I will just say that I'm hooked on this new series, and I can't wait to read the next one.
I received a copy of the story from the author. All thoughts contained here are my own honest opinions.
I loved the banter between the characters in this book and laughed out loud as I read this book! Myra is looking forward to finding love and marriage. She thinks she has found her "love" match and is only waiting for the arrangements to be worked out between Lord Southwood, his father and her father. Myra's family is invited to the Viscount Southwood's family home in the country for an extended stay to get to know the family and make sure they will suit. What follows is a mix up and marriage to the Lord's younger brother Daniel. The young couple must navigate many turns and twists to find out if they have found true love or are destined to live a life together that neither of them wanted. This is an excellent book and is the first in a new series - I can't wait to read more books by this author and in this series.

Entwined by Error by Angela E. Johnson is a sparkling start to the Madcaps of Mayfair series, blending Regency charm with laugh-out-loud twists and a swoon-worthy slow-burn romance. When romantic idealist Myra Astley falls for the rakish Viscount Southwood, she doesn’t realize he’s more interested in her dowry than her heart. Enter Daniel, Southwood’s honorable younger brother, who’s tasked with saving Myra from a disastrous match—only to end up shackled to her after a fortune teller’s mishap. Forced into marriage, their reluctant bond blossoms into something tender and true, with witty banter, goose-related chaos, and a deeply satisfying emotional arc. With vibrant family dynamics, a clever and loving mother, and a heroine who grows into her own strength, this story is pure joy. Sweet, smart, and utterly delightful—I’m already craving the next installment.

This is the first book in the Madcaps of Mayfair series. When Myra Astley thinks she falls in love with the charming Viscount Southwood, she is certain nothing can destroy her happiness. But fate, has other plans. She finds herself in a marriage of convenience with his infuriating arrogant brother, Daniel Northcutt.
I found the witty banter between Myra and Daniel charming and so funny. I enjoyed seeing their relationship evolve. I found myself laughing out loud at certain parts, especially the goose that protects the pond and becomes quite territorial. Myra is a bit clumsy at times, and adds a touch of humor throughout the book. I laughed, smiled and cheered as I found myself unable to put this story down. I can't wait to read more of this series!
Quotes: "You will soon come to understand that everything in a ballroom, no matter how seemingly innocent, is intentional."
"Love was beautiful and meant for other women, not for her."
A young star struck girl chose the wrong brother!!! She chose a gambler and rake who only needs her dowry to pay his debts. I was aghast that Myra thought the opposite. Someone had the foresight to do something, and that's how the pair found themselves at the fortune tellers, chained together and no key available. They were bound together overnight, thus needed a remedy of marriage to make it all look nice to the ton.
Can Daniel (who's having some big feelings as time goes by) win over Myra or will she pine for the wastrel? This was a fun, entertaining, totally captivating story to true love. I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest review.
Well written, full of drama, society, fate, marriage, surprises, danger, fireworks, gambling and twists. Myra is in love with Lord Southwood, only to find out that he is heavy into debt caused by his gambling. All he wants is her dowry so that he can continue his ways. His brother Daniel and his mother both know about Southwood's habits and try to make a plan to help Myra survive him. Somehow Myra and Daniel are chained together causing them the need to marry. As they work together in their marriage, both realize they have the best of their worlds. Hope to read more about them as she has some more sisters. Would recommend to others.
I received this story and leave this unbiased, honest review.
This book was so much fun! So many tropes, so much laughter, and of course- plenty of ‘Awww’ moments. The banter is off the charts, just as I’ve come to expect from Angela’s stories. Even the chapter headings made me smile.
I loved the kindness of Daniel, the absolute spunk and feistiness of Myra, the scheming of his mom, and yes- even Southwood and his evil plans. You know it’s well written when the villain is likeable!
“A minor affliction contstantly plagues my soul. I have a distaste for idiocy dressed is silk waistcoats.”
I will mention the goose only because it’s on the cover. Just know, it’s hilarious.
This is a regency story that you need to RUN and get. The best thing is that it’s the first in a new series so there is more fun to come.
Delightful, sweet Regency romance where humor and wit meets goodness of character
Though marriage of convenience is not an original plot, it is the turns, twists, shackles, and all kind of mischief that lead to it that are actually a game changer here. You can’t help but smile at the characters’ antics/misadventures and hope for their HEA. And then there is the beautiful, gentle but irresistible wooing.
Things to enjoy: Witty chapter titles Humorous dialogues Delightful characters Regency atmosphere Fun absurdities Tender romance Engaging style A good plot
Give this book a try and simply enjoy the story!
Possible triggers: alcohol addiction, gambling
I had a privilege to read an advanced copy and absolutely loved it! All opinions expressed are my own.
This book was absolutely dreamy. Such a delight to read, just as I knew it would be. Angela E Johnson is easily one of my favorite authors, and when it comes to her marriage of convenience romances, she becomes even more of a favorite. The way she weaves these characters lives together with laughter, excitement, peril and more is lovely, swoony and so enjoyable as a reader.
Myra and Daniel are great characters, and together a slow burn romance that is all one could want as they sit and read. And the side characters she places throughout compliment their story so well. Wonderful job Angela Johnson! I HIGHLY recommend this one to all lovers of regency romance, and if you aren’t, give this one a try anyways because it may just convince you to become one.
Myra is convinced she’s in love with Viscount Southwood when in reality, he just wants her dowry to settle his gambling debts. His brother, Daniel, knows what’s happening and is trying to warn Myra. But she’s too stubborn to believe him. A series of unfortunate (but hysterical) events leads to them being shackled together...literally and figuratively...and a forced marriage ensues.
I liked that there was passage of time before Myra and Daniel ultimately come together. Sometimes these things happen way too quickly. And Myra’s lessons on having children??!!!? 😂 TOO FUNNY! Lots of silly moments in this book, and a sweet romance between Myra and Daniel. Just a fun, lighthearted regency. I look forward to reading more of her books.
This book was a fun read and provoked a rollercoaster of emotions, from laughing out loud, to frustration, and on to sigh-worthy happiness. Myra was so blind to Southwood’s faults, and then couldn’t see her forced-upon-her husband’s strengths for the life of her. She was shockingly naive for a maiden of 23, and Daniel was frustratingly slow to show his emotions, but when they got past their rocky start and they both realized how lucky they were, all was well. I enjoyed Daniel’s mother who took matters into her own hands in an attempt to help both her sons as well as Myra. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When an incident with a fortune teller forces Myra to give up marrying for love and forces her to marry Danial, Myra is devastated. Her dreams of love seem to wash away, leaving her with a man who doesn't seem to even like her.
But with the help of an attack goose, an errant ex-suitor, and a little bit of motherly advice, Myra and Daniel might just find their way.
I received a free advance copy and an leaving a review voluntarily.
This historical romance is another winner from Angela. With wit, humor, a bit of peril, and a lot of emotional encounters, the author spins a tale that will warm the readers heart during these cool, fall days.
Delightful and charming clean historical romance. I loved everything about this story. The characters were engaging and the story gripping, from lies and deceit to naïve love and celebrated marriage. Myra Astley had an 80 thousand pound dowry. Viscount Southwood set his sites on Miss Astley and she fell hopelessly in love, little did she know it was her dowry he was wooing. Daniel Northcott knew his brother too well and tried to convince him to change his ways. But mother’s always know best! This is highly entertaining and intriguing from beginning to end. It is the first book in a series and I highly recommend if you like clean witty historical romances. I can’t wait for the next book.
The silly cover does not actually reflect the content of this sweet Regency. A Viscount is willing to marry a heiress for her dowry, but his handsome younger brother has depth that his brother lacks. Myra is the oldest of 5 daughters with a rich father. At 23 she needs to put her hoydenish ways aside. Surprisingly deep and quite nicely written. I look forward to the next installment in this series, “The Madcaps of Mayfair”. I received the ARC of this book at no charge from BookSirens and the author, but all opinions are my own.
This was an amazing slow burn romance where dowries, and titles do not matter to either main characters (Daniel and Myra) when they get attached in an unconventional and unexpected way!
Humorous story but with much heightened emotions to keep the reader sobered at times. Really, really enjoyed this story and would love to read book two which will follow Myra’s sister Juliana’s journey to happily ever after.
Received this as an Advanced Reader Copy from BookSirens for free and this is my own opinion given voluntarily.
Myra Astley and Daniel Northcott rubbed each other the wrong way from the start. So being forced to marry due to circumstances beyond their control was a bit much. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. The story of how the young couple came to appreciate the role fate played in their destiny is quite entertaining and involves a goose as well as a few well meaning busybodies.
This was a great book. There was a great balance of emotions by the characters. It would have gotten a 5 star from me if some of the scenes would have been more realistic and not dim witted sounding. The goose had a reason, nesting. Over all it was a fun read and I did like the characters and the story and I am very interested in reading a particular brother’s story! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I can't believe people were THAT ignorant of how children were born so I have a bit of a hard time swallowing that part of the story. But it was a bit of a twist on a forced marriage so I'll give it points there. Though that also seems an insane reason to get married.... but I guess it was a different lifestyle. I dunno. It was unbelievable but it was cute so I guess I'll settle on 3 stars.
Entwined by Error is Book 1 in the Madcaps of Mayfair by Angela E Johnson. This Regency story is do enjoyable. Myra falls for Viscount Southwood, he falls for her dowry and his brothet, Daniel tries to save Myra. I think that this romance is a joyful way to jump into jolly old England. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
