Chainmail Made Easy: Learn to Chainmail in 24 Hours or Less!

Rate this book
Have you always wanted to learn to chainmail but thought it would take too long? This is an introductory book in the Chaimail Made Easy series detailing how to get started chainmailling in 24 hours or less with absolutely no experience. Chain mail, also known as chainmail, maille, or chainmaille is a great hobby for any age that doesn't involve just making armor. You can make almost anything from chainmail. Below are just a few examples of what you can • Jewerly (Bracelets, Necklaces, Anklets, Earrings, Rings) • Clothing (Bikini tops, Belts, Shirts, Ties) • Art • Armor • Inlays (pictures in your maille) • And much, much more!

This introductory volume focuses on getting you up and chainmailing as fast as possible. It’ll zero in on the absolute minimum you’ll need to start weaving within 24 hours as outlined: • The tools and materials you’ll need • Wrapping wire into coils with a coiling jig you’ll build • Cutting rings from the coils you wound • Weaving one of the most common and easiest weaves from detailed graphic instructions • Practicing the weave learned with three different exercises • Learning the European or Euro 4-in-1 weave • An elegant bracelet project for women or men.

Chainmail is neither difficult to learn nor expensive. All it takes is a willingness to try something new no matter your age, education, or income!

A Personal Note From The Author: This introductory volume blends 10 years of my personal experience chainmailling. When I first started chainmailling, I knew nothing about it except what I'd seen online or in movies: chainmail armor. Not very exciting for the average person but the idea of weaving metal rings into something I could create without any special skills appealed to me. I stumbled across a website with instructions and rings for sale and I've been hooked ever since!

I enjoy working and creating with my hands. I think that is why I enjoy doing origami so much. The problem is that I end up with a bunch of paper projects that clutter up my house. This might be a good solution as the end product is somewhat useful. Now I just need to find the time and money to give it a try.

Chain mail .

Interesting basic book, on chain mail. Purchased it, to have handy, when starting on mail. Useful for basic 4 in 1 weave, but will need to get next book for anything more complex. Useful information, for anyone wishing to make their own or adjust existing shirts, etc.

Great instructions

The instructions are simple and clear, the visual aids even more so. I am thinking of trying this technique with my metalworking students. I am sure they'd enjoy it.

Good beginners guide to making chain mail, I use it as a reference book, so return to it when needing a specific method, an idea of what to make, or inspiration.

Nice for beginners but...

So I decided to get this book just to see how Mr. Baker does his "beginners" guide. Honesty, I just skimmed through the book due to having 15 years of experience in making chainmail. This book IS good for those just starting out, but i probably would have told the readers how to make the rings instead of adding in the tie bit about buying the rings mid section. I probably would have left that for like the references. Then there's the part where he describes how to cut the rings and the manderal, he suggested to use a hand saw with a 400 tooth saw. I personally have never used this method. I have always used a drummel or some other rotary tool to make the cuts. Yes it does take some practice but you will get great cuts from it. I personally wouldn't have suggested using the wire cutters ether due to the unevennesses of the cuts.... Now as far as the pliers to use, I use bent nose pliers for all my work... Last thing I would have put into the book is a size chart for the different gages to what each size would best be used for.

This is the second book of Baker's that I have read on chain maille. I am once again pleased. It is simple and direct. Good illustrations are always a help in any how to book. It is a good book for someone who wants to learn a very basic chain maille weave but has 0 experience. It is nice in that it details the tools, materials, and safety concerns involved in a new project. There aren't really any patterns or projects in this volume, but it gives practice, practice, practice (and that's something a mailler needs!).

The photos did not show up.

The author went into too much detail about making jump rings. Also the illustrative photos that he referred to in the making chainmaille did not show up. Disappointing.
