“the hardest part about falling apart
isn’t picking up the pieces after it all.
it’s understanding that they fell,
and you should leave them there to make room for the new pieces of you
that will grow in their place.”

Where are my highlights, Goodreads??

I loved this.
I'm taking a star off with great pain, ONLY because I wish this was in a different order. Like one was about love, one was about grief, one was about friends, one was about feeling lost, and then back again? I feel like connecting themes could have been grouped as a section.

I GOT IT AND I'M SO EXCITED (yes, for a poetry book, who even am I?)

As I was waiting for my mom to finish with her doctor's appointment, I set foot in a nearby bookstore to pass time. I picked up at random this small poetry book, sat on a couch in a corner and dove right in.

It wasn't personally for me. I wasn't touched or moved. My mind wasn't blown away. The pages felt like a compilation of cliche quotes I would stumble upon while scrolling reels on my phone. One of the quotes said something along the lines of "if they wanted to, they would. And if you wanted to, you would too." I think it summarizes pretty well the substance of this poetry book.

The author intended for the reader to open a page at random every other day. I might have enjoyed it more this way, rather than bingeing it in one sitting.

I have not read the book yet, because it will not be released until september 30th.
Still, someone gave it 2 stars.
It’s Joey Kidney, people. It cannot be 2 stars.
Therefore, here is my 5-star review. I’ll change it into a proper review after I’ve read it.

This book clearly wasn’t meant for me, I know your not supposed to read this in one go but the “reminders” are just so stupid, I had to get this shit over with as fast as I could.

4.5 ⭐️

I really enjoyed this book. There were often times I found myself rereading sections because of how much it made me think of my own life. I think that everyone who would pick up this book would be able to relate to it in some way shape or form.

There were times where some of the poems said the same thing just slightly different wording which is why I docked it 1/2 a ⭐️

A sweet collection of short morsels of wisdom by Canadian poet Joey Kidney. Nice in theory, but many thoughts felt repetitive and a bit cliché. Overall, a very short and cute read for days when you need gentle reminders of positivity and inspiration.

I don't know if I'll ever finish this book but I'm rating it anyways. I've read it randomly in bits and pieces as the author suggested in the introduction. It has earned a permanent place on my desk.

The good:

Some nuanced and heartfelt descriptions of hope in the face of despair, of extending your mind beyond the current moment.

The bad:

Equal parts trite and terribly weak understanding of love. The poets insistence on just walking away from love really underscored a devaluation of commitment in love. The way they talk about love is glaringly from the perspective of someone who has not felt the deep respect of love as I understand it.

It sounded like a guy on tinder for a year wanted to write poems.

I’d give this 3.5 stars! Quick and easy read of daily reminders and things to remember, talks about love and breakups and heartaches. It’s a good read but the poems aren’t super deep. There’s a few that hit harder than the rest, and poetry is subjective to everyone. I didn’t hate it and would read his other books, but it just wasn’t my favourite poetry compared to other collections I’ve read!

If you love poetry, you will love this book.

I have been a fan of Joey's since 2020 and his videos helped me get through some of that hard days. When I saw that he had books, I knew I need to read them. There were sooooo many poems that hit for me right now and I know when I read it again in the futruer there will be different ones that hit.

Overall, I need to read his other books!

Just Remember is a gentle but powerful read about navigating your inner world. It’s honest, comforting, and at times heavy but in a way that feels meaningful rather than overwhelming. Perfect for anyone who appreciates emotional writing and isn’t afraid to sit with their feelings for a while.

Quick poetry book. I really enjoyed the quotes from this book and it's cool knowing it's a local Ottawa author.

Was really excited to read because it is classified as poetry, but it ended up being a collection of mediocre motivational facebook statuses.

It has some good input to bring a new perspective to your own thoughts. But it is sadly not filtered... Which makes it really random
