So What? Now What? Is a 'self-help' graphic novel with deep connections to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Osher draws on personal anecdotes, sharing his own experiences and struggles, and how he learned to manage his mental health. Cam's illustrations emphasise the importance of the message by adding a visual element of engagement. Together, the light hearted, and at times, satirical storyline acknowledges the importance of accepting your situation (stuggles), taking responsibility for your actions and encourages you to get comfortable with discomfort, moving past self-pity and making choices to move forward.

The authors offer insight into some of the key concepts of ACT and explain some strategies for accepting thoughts and feelings, challenging unhelpful thinking patterns, clarifying personal values, and committing to deliberate action.

This is a fantastic introduction to mindfulness and probably the most effective psychotherapy developed to date. Thank you, Osher, for putting simply into words (and to Cam for adding vision), what so many of us need to practice. I'd recommend this book as a conversation starter and bridge to professional services.

Ps. The audiobook is just as good, if not better. Can't wait for the animated short film, which is surely on the cards.

The second half of this lil book is where it’s at - DBT for the win. I feel like I’m not enough of a disaffected young male to fully appreciate its totality lol. Also soz Cam but those illustrations were just freaky deaky (and not in a good way).

“If you have the courage to do those burpees we all dislike so much, to willingly experience the discomfort of the work, your body will adapt by growing more muscle, improving your fitness and giving you greater physical resilience and flexibility. Having the courage to be with uncomfortable thoughts and feelings builds our emotional resilience.”

“It’s important to remind yourself that even with all of the pain you’ve been dealing with, you’re only here today because in some way you have managed to cope with every challenge you’ve ever faced. Why would it be any different in the future?”

Really enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book after hearing Osher speak about it on a podcast and will recommend it to clients to read (or listen to) when using ACT.
