A lobster is an animal that will never stop growing, so should we.
The book emphasizes on the personal growth, using the lobster as a metaphor. We should also never stop learning because our brain also doesn’t stop growing. The book also presents career growth as an ongoing process rather than a ladder to climb, using the lobster as a memorable metaphor for continuous learning and adaptability.
Here are some key points that I love from the book. However, there are so much more. You all should check it out.
- Default learning happens everyday but deciding how much you want to learn and grow is up to you.
- Be the person who are the heavy learner.
- The more you learn, the better you feel, the more value you add.
- Be more engaged, productive, and successful.
- Be more career directional, purposeful, and less stress.
- Read widely and outside your area of expertise.
- Listening > speaking and Asking > telling

Learn Like a Lobster is a must read for anyone who feels busy but quietly stuck. What stayed with me most was the idea of everyday experiments, especially the simple shift from reacting to requests to using language like Not now or Not that way to protect focus. It shifted me from waiting for the right course or the right moment to realising I can fuel my own development inside the week I already have. The line that hit was the reminder that if a lobster stayed comfortable in its shell, it would stop growing. I learned that growth does not need a grand plan, it can begin with one small experiment, one better question, and the courage to shed a shell that no longer fits.

A very useful book to talk you through the benefits of learning like a lobster whether in learning as you go, learning in hard moments or leading your own learning. Come ready with your highlighter and pen ready to take notes as there are some stand out quotes that guide you through this new learning. Interesting facts are shared about lobsters and how resourceful they are because they never stop growing, grow in hard moments and fuel their own growth. The parallels drawn help you visualise how you can own your own learning in shaping your life - career, relationships, work, hobby/ interests, etc
